I have been a huge supporter of Notebook LM in the past. I work in academic medicine and have used it previously to breakdown multiple medical papers at a time, digest medical textbooks chapters into quizes and audio overviews, generate slidedecks on complex topics and had previously been impressed with results. I had recommended it to colleagues as a great resource. However, now it only generate superficial and at time inaccurate content. I have a pro account and prompted it to generate a slide deck of 80-100 slides and no matter how I structure my prompt it will only generate 15 superficial slides. Detailed audio overviews that were nearly an hour are only now only 25 minutes of very basic information. I guess it's time to move on to a different platform at this point. I made a post a week ago about wanting to give up on the Traveler's Notebook format because of how cumbersome it was and got a lot of tips from the great users of this sub. I journaled with it almost everyday for a week, at home and outside. Less inserts was key! I am no longer being tortured by the TN. I can't believe I didn't come up with this myself lol. I guess it's because modularity is the TN's big feature and I felt like not maximizing it would be a waste :p Previously I tried keeping 3-4 inserts and I had to wrestle it flat. Clips barely worked, the bulk was killing my wrist, etc. With just 2 inserts it isn't much of a problem. Clips work fine, my hand isn't awkwardly floating, and writing is much more comfortable. It's still a bit wobbly and uneven but I don't mind it as much. (I also beat the notebook into submission by keeping it clipped overnight...) That said, you don't have to put up with wobble or depend on clips for a lay-flat with other notebooks. And it's unfortunate that I lose some of the modularity—2 of my other inserts have been kicked out. These are exactly the kinds of games I want to love. Obscure (BUT TOO OBSCURE FOR ME), brilliant, inventive, critically adored, the sort of games that make you feel like the medium is still capable of magic and challenge. But I've yet to finish any one of them. I lack the patience, note-taking discipline, comprehension, or uninterrupted adult human time required to actually finish them. So I end up in this weird place where I admire them from afar, like that meme of the dog with its nose pressed against the storm door glass window. I’m rooting for them. I’m glad they exist. I will recommend them (in theory). But in practice, I am getting mentally folded into a lawn chair by games made for people who keep a dedicated puzzle notebook and perhaps don’t have a toddler asking for string cheese every nine minutes. Games LIKE them that I've played to completely? Viewfinder. Cocoon. Humanity. The Pedestrian. Unpacking (not puzzley). The Swapper. Many others but those come to mind first and quickly.
