Finally got around to Crime 101. Great movie! Dragged down by a poo poo title. It has multiple Marvel actors, if that sweetens the deal for any of you. Amazon can go to hell, they really fucked up this device so bad, it used to be very good few months/years ago. I have the 4K 2nd gen (2023) and just like a couple months ago was all good, no issues, everything smooth and fine, but now it totally sucks. Lagging all the time, Network issues, I can’t connect it to the mobile app because the app won’t detect it, I can’t use the keyboard by scanning the QR code because safari on my iphone wont connect to it, the horrendous new layout with a lot of shit I don’t care and don’t wanna see like bombing me with content I don’t want. I missed Barcelona - Madrid soccer match today because of this thing having network issues all the time, and surprisingly I have Internet on ALL my other devices but the stupid firestick keep having issues. Every time I turn it on, it gets internet access and everything works fine but after like 1 o 2 minutes it loses the internet connection out of nowhere. The stupid new layout sometimes keeps loading and loading and never gets to show the installed apps and things, I gotta keep resetting this garbage even 5 times to get it to work. I can’t even watch youtube because it won’t open, and even PAID streaming apps would buffer after like a minute turning it on. And while I write this, I already missed 40 minutes of another soccer match I really wanted to watch. All this started happening since this new update that changed all the layout. I was always recommending it to my friends to get one because it was a way lot better than just having a normal smart tv but now Amazon even don’t want people to install whatever app they want, like dude I paid for it and I choose whatever I wanna do with it. And you guys know whats even more frustrating? That I have an older version of this firestick in my bedroom’s tv which works totally fineeee, I just had to plug it into my living room’s tv to watch my soccer game and trash that fucking “2nd gen” crap I had. Looks like Amazon is finally taking action against illegal streaming apps on Fire Sticks. According to The Athletic (via Adam Leventhal), Amazon will start restricting access to apps that enable piracy. The clampdown applies to both new and old Fire Stick devices, though registered developers can still use them for legitimate purposes. The rollout has already begun in Germany and France and will expand globally soon. What are your thoughts on this? This individual in question is virtually impossible to reason with, so trust me if there was a way to resolve this verbally I would. I have an Amazon Fire Stick and before the new year the YouTube app had a warning message saying that due to licensing disagreements between Google and Amazon, the official YouTube app was no longer going to be supported on the Amazon devices. Having come home from seeing family in 2018, I fired up my fire stick to see the Youtube app not working, but there was a large advert for Firefox and Silk, two newly added internet browsers. The biggest feature of these browsers? Complete supported YouTube website. We had cable TV to all three televisions and a Roku in the living room. The Comcast bill got out of control so we opted to drop cable and keep the Internet, and stream all our programming. Instead of getting Roku for the other two televisions we went with the Amazon Fire Sticks. No good reason. This was near the end of the month. A few days later, in the last day of the month, we get a notice that we're at 90% of our data usage with an explanation of what the overage charges would be. I guess that was nice of them to warn us. Our monthly cap is 300 GB and we were shocked that we'd used so much, and also unaware until that point we even had a cap. After checking the wireless router to make sure no unauthorized connections existed we thought it might be the new Fire Sticks. The following day we started over on the August data plan and we used 40 GB!!!! IN ONE DAY! Seriously Amazon??? Unplugged those suckers and the next day used only 3 GB. We've installed Roku sticks on all the televisions and have been watching closely for a week and so far we've used about 3 to 10 GB a day. TLDR: Amazon Fire Stick used over 4 times the data that Roku uses, and nearly cost us a bundle of money on data overage charges. Edit: Yes, it's a data usage cap of 300 GB a month. No really, it is. Yes, I'm serious, I have a data cap. No, I'm not in a 3rd world country and yes I'm aware this is 2015. And yes I really do have a data cap. We didn't even know we had a cap until we got the Fire Stick so it's possible you have one too. This post isn't about my data cap - it's about data usage of the Fire Stick.
