I’m sure many of us have had Visa gift cards with a couple of bucks left on them and nowhere to spend them. What I started to do is load them onto Amazon using their Gift Card Balance Reload. Just look up your balance using the website or phone number on the back of the card and load your Amazon balance. One thing to keep in mind is that there’s a $5 minimum load, but outside of that you can load any exact amount onto Amazon, down to the penny. Hi everyone, I'm posting this out of pure frustration after multiple failed attempts to resolve a critical issue with Amazon support. I believe others should know how Amazon "cares" for their customers. I am experiencing a critical and unresolved issue regarding a missing gift card balance. The balance was purchased directly on the Amazon website using debit cards issued in my name. The funds were successfully added to my account. A few days later I placed an order using the gift balance — this order was processed normaly and was preparing for shipment. Onе week later, while continuing my PC upgrade, I attempted to place another order for a motherboard. During checkout, I received a message stating that my account had been compromised and I needed to reset my password right now, which I did immediately. Shortly after, I received an email stating that my account would be "cleared" and all orders would be canceled. Literally "We believe that an unauthorized party may have accessed your account. We have canceled any pending orders. You can ignore any confirmation emails that you received for these orders." Since the orders were canceled, I expected my full gift balance to be restored automatically — but that didn’t happen. The gift balance reload orders now are showing as “Processing” since July 14. My core question is: When will the remaining gift balance be restored? I have contacted Amazon support multiple times via chat and phone. I was repeatedly assured that the issue would be resolved within 48–72 hours, but nothing has happened. It has now been over two weeks with zero progress or any explanation of the issue. At this point, I feel like Amazon has either withheld my funds without cause, or has no control of its internal processes. I have so many of these cards because I have a family member who used to give me one every time I saw her, I probably have around 15 cards with about $25 on each one. I have gone down a bit of a rabbit hole the past few days trying to figure out how on earth to use these cards so I thought I would note some things down here as I figure out where I can spend the money. I'll edit this post if I figure out anywhere else. Online retailers accepting Vanilla Visa Gift Cards: Amazon.com: I was able to reload my Amazon gift card balance using this card, I put the name as A GIFT FOR YOU and deducted .10 from the total in case Amazon held a fee and this worked great, the funds appeared in my account within 10 minutes. Edit: I attempted to do this exact same process a second time and it did not work, I'm not really sure why it was rejected as I didn't do anything differently. I'll update if I try again. Etsy: this has been the easiest place to use these cards, I have been able to make several orders from here, again I input the name as A Gift For You but I was able to use my own billing address with no issue. I wish it was this easy literally anywhere else. Medical Bills: Paid medical bills online, i put the name as A Gift For You and used my own zip code; note: this gift card was a vanilla mastercard, im not sure if this makes a big difference from the vanilla visa edit: I tried to use the gift cards to pay a different bill and it did not work. I currently have a $410 Vanilla visa gift card. I have tried reloading my amazon gift balance with it for $400 and it always says on hold, and then is cancelled. I called customer service and they told me to match the card name to my billing address, which did not work. I used another visa gift card to reload $5 of my balance a couple days before, which worked fine. I also saw some people saying to change the card name to "Gift Card" which again did not work. Like many people in this subreddit I have been trying and failing to add my amex gift cards to my Amazon account, I did some digging in this sub and I found a solution buried in a comment thread somewhere, special thanks to u/jorgejdejesus for being the person to comment about the solution originally. Step 1. Add the amex gift card to your amazon account just like you would do with a regular credit or debit card (Click account, then click Your Payments). Step 2. Go to the Gift cards section under your account, and click on reload your balance. You will have to then enter a custom amount of $9.99, and then click on Buy Now. Once you have done this make sure you select the amex gift card as the payment option, and purchase the reload. Repeat this step until the gift card is empty, if you don't want to do the math in your head every time you can just use this link and enter in your gift card information to see your remaining balance. Eventually you will only have a few cents left on the card but don't forget to add those too! (Optional) Step 3. You don't always have to just keep adding in increments of $9.99 after your initial $9.99. The max amount I was able to put on at once for a $50 gift card was $39.91 and on a $100 it was $49.99. I suspect that you could find higher increments but this method already takes some time to go through a single card so I didn't mess with it more to see what the limits were. Be warned I did lose a random $0.10 once after a higher amount I entered didn't go through but it's only $0.10 so whatever. That's it! **UPDATE** The phone number on the back of a Vanilla Pre-Paid card is an 833 number, NOT an 888 number.. Also, it is "(833) 322-6760" not 6780. 233, 377, 388, 822, and so on...It is one of the easiest numbers to fudge up when one is stressed about losing a substantial amount of money. Also, "System error message" when checking the balance is what happens when the card is locked or disabled due to possible fraud. I guess this is Vanilla's best method of protecting the user... or perhaps by getting rid of the issue by causing a stroke... **UPDATE** ​ I can't find a better subreddit to post this question and seems as though most prior posts about Vanilla ended up here. I purchased a Vanilla card starting with 4118 yesterday for some online purchases while awaiting a replacement debit card from my bank. The card worked fine yesterday, and it has a balance, but the card gets declined everywhere today. When I visit Vanillagift.com and check the balance, I get a System error message, I also tried 2 other vanilla cards I had laying around that have about $1 on them. same issue. I tried to call then number on the back of the card, but I get an "All Circuits Busy" Message. I have been carrying a Visa gift card in my wallet for months with a $3.86 balance and never could remember my balance to use it in person. After I received a $25 "virtual" Visa gift card I could only use online I received sage advice to use it to purchase an Amazon gift card. Instead I discovered I could just reload it straight to my Amazon account and it was available within minutes. It always bugged me as sometimes I can't spend the entire balance in one purchase and end up with a forgettable amount left on the card. Since I use Amazon all the time I plan to do this with any Visa/MC gift card I receive in the future.
