RE:Automatic Cat Litter Boxes?
I've had many cats over many years and personally have no need for an automatic litter box. The cats have always done fine with a plain, old fashioned box so my motto is, "If it's not broke don't fix it." One thing I will say is that I prefer a large litter box especially if the cats are diggers and like to kick litter out.

Automatic litter box recommendations according to Reddit for people who hate daily scooping
I’ve been thinking about upgrading to an automatic litter box because I’m honestly over cleaning three times a day. My cats are picky about their litter, and I don’t want something that scares them with loud motors or jams all the time. I’ve read online reviews, but I really want real-life opinions. Which models have you used that actually make life easier without constant maintenance? I’m hoping for something that lasts years so I don’t have to replace it every winter. submitted by /u/Iced_Shehidi to r/BuyItForLife [link] [comments]

AITAH for getting my boyfriend a dishwasher for valentines day?
My bf (42M) and I (41F) are big Dungeon Crawler Carl fans. Dont worry, no spoilers in this post. Recently BF has been re-reading the series and brought up a part in Dungeon Anarchist's Cookbook where the characters banter about how Carl bought his girlfriend an automatic cat litter box for his gf birthday. Carl doesn't understand why his gf was mad because the litterbox was very expensive and she literally asked for it. The other female characters admonish him for this. Last week BF asked me if I would be mad if I was Carls gf, and it devolved into an argument because BF agrees with Carl. Yesterday I got fed up with hand washing BFs dishes and frankly my own too. I remembered BF mentioned he wanted to get dishwasher. So I pulled the trigger and I bought one. Its expensive, and it was something he asked for, so Im going to give it to him for Valentines day. It arrives on Wednesday so I got the spot ready for install. (EDIT for context: We do live together) I told him what I got him and now hes furious. Anyone else with a Siberian overthink automatic litter boxes way too much?
I didn’t expect owning a Siberian to turn buying a litter box into a whole research project, but here we are. I went back and forth forever between the PetSnowy SNOW+ and the Litter-Robot 4, mostly because a lot of reviews don’t really feel written for… large, fluffy, opinionated cats. Siberians aren’t just “big cats.” They take their time, turn around a lot, and somehow manage to be both graceful and clumsy at the same time. At first, I was really tempted by the PetSnowy. It looks nice, it’s fully enclosed, and the odor control sounded great. If I’m being honest, I liked that it didn’t scream “giant robot litter box” in the room. But the more I pictured my Siberian actually using it, the more I started second-guessing. The inside just felt a bit tight, especially with all that fur, and I kept thinking about cleaning days and whether I’d regret that later. That’s when the Litter-Robot 4 started making more sense for my cat, even though it’s bulkier. The opening is bigger, there’s more room inside, and it just feels more forgiving if your cat likes to reposition five times before committing. Mine definitely does. I also didn’t think I’d care about weight tracking, but with a breed that’s already on the larger side, I can see how trends could be useful over time. Cleaning was another thing that tipped me. The LR4 just seemed easier to deal with regularly, especially with long fur involved. PetSnowy still looks solid, I just wasn’t sure I’d love it long-term once novelty wore off. I originally went down this whole rabbit hole over on r/technomeowcom, but I wanted to ask here because Siberian cats are kind of their own category. What are you all using? Did your Siberian take to an automatic box right away, or did it take some convincing? Any regrets or “wish I’d known this earlier” moments? Would love to hear real experiences, because my cat definitely didn’t read the product descriptions before judging me. submitted by /u/Crazy-Donkey-9178 to r/SiberianCats [link] [comments]

Anyone here actually happy with an automatic litter box for Maine Coon, long-term?
maine coon people, i need honest answers lol. i keep seeing mixed takes on an automatic litter box for Maine Coon. some folks swear by it, others quietly admit it became “the backup box” over time. my guy is big, fluffy, and not exactly subtle with bathroom posture. he fits, technically, but it’s tight. turning around is… a process. sometimes he exits looking offended. i’m less worried about whether it works and more about whether your coon genuinely seems comfortable months later. not just tolerating it, but choosing it. did your cat fully commit? or did you notice gradual avoidance once the novelty wore off? submitted by /u/ryukendo_25 to r/mainecoons [link] [comments]

Might have lost some friends due to letting daughter pet sit for 15 days
Small update: Husband saw Liz at work yesterday and they avoided the subject. I'm thinking Liz has washed her hands of it. I am non confrontational and don't have any reason to see them again. It's quite possible they won't realize how much they f*cked up until they ask for another favor and we say nope. I'm curious if the same amount would have been paid even if they thought she did a good job. I bet so. Update: They just paid her 500. Only message sent was did you get it? I also found out that the chickens were given fresh water daily but it had rained on the dish so that's why it was dirty. The horse trough in question was not shown to my daughter specifically and when she saw it, she noticed a gutter (?) spout putting rain water into it. She still filled it with fresh water but it had been 2 days prior to their return. The horses in the other pens all had filled water. Matt will see Liz at work tomorrow and we will see if they talk. My daughter and I are done with them. Background: My husband Matt (48m) is friends with Liz (45f) at work. Liz is married to Mandy (42f) and our family went to their wedding a year ago. Our families share a love of animals and we live 20 minutes away from each other in the rainy cold PNW. Liz adores Matt and his knowledge and abilities in woodworking and construction. She always asks for help on her farm with various projects and is a strong hard worker that has offered helping us when we need it. Liz and Mandy have 4 horses, a slew of chickens, 6 cats and 2 dogs. We have dogs and cats. My 18 year old daughter Peyton has struggled with depression most of her life. She has been suicidal and had to drop out of highschool. Because of this she hasn't met any friends. I mean zero. She is very close with her dad and me and tells us everything. She is finally in a good place. When Mandy and Liz met her they loved her. They would ask her over for movie nights and to spend time with their animals. Peyton is the biggest animal lover and dog whisperer I know. She has recently been pet sitting for neighbors and over Thanksgiving she received $460 for watching two dogs and two cats and occasionally sleeping over at their house. I recognize this was a particularly well paid job. She has stayed the night with Liz and Mandy a few times and watched their farm for a week in the past. They usually pay her about $15 to $20 a night, which we brushed off because they are friends of ours. Peyton is embarrassed to ask for more. In November I received a text from Mandy asking if we were willing to watch their farm over Christmas and New Year's. My husband actually was against the idea but I felt bad thinking who are they going to get to pet sit an entire farm over the holidays? So I said we would do it. Since they are such good friends with Peyton she agreed to stay the night there over that time. She wanted to spend time with the horses as well. It is also worth mentioning that they were driving across the country and taking their two dogs with them. Mandy had told Peyton that it was up in the air when they what day exactly they were going to be leaving. Then she got a call 2 hours before we needed to drive her over there to get exact instructions. She was upset because it was her twin brothers' 15th birthday and she was missing the cake and party. However she's still went and they showed her what to do. According to Peyton, Liz showed her how much to feed the horses and the chickens but never mentioned a few key things including the horse trough. When she took her in the chicken pen she told her about putting the chickens in and out every morning and evening but there was a giant bowl in there overturned when she was shown the pen. Liz didn't say anything specifically about the bowl. They left early the next morning. The farmhouse does not have any heat so one of the important things Peyton had to do was keep a fire going at all times and collect firewood from outside. One of the horses is elderly and has to get special food and it needs to be soaked because he doesn't have any teeth. Another horse gets hay and pellets because he has trouble gaining weight. The other two are in a separate pen and they only get hay. There are several litter boxes for the cats and they get wet and dry food each day. Peyton does not drive so Matt and I took turns going to see her and help her out with various chores making it kind of a family affair although she was ultimately there and responsible. Also because Matt and I were working except for on the actual holidays which we did feel very bad that Peyton was missing a lot of the events. When she did come home she felt like she needed to go back and make sure everything was safe and also that the fire was keeping the cats warm. Driving there and back takes 40 minutes and we did it twice a day. Peyton ran out of things to start a fire with so we brought our Christmas wrappings to help her keep fires going. The weather was very cold and rainy the entire 15 days. She was freezing at night and called me crying once or twice saying she was so done. All I could think this whole time is how they better be paying her well. Especially since it's been over the two holidays. What kind of cost would it have been to hire professionals? Finally after 15 days Liz and Mandy planned their return. That day we all went over and cleaned their house. I vacuumed and changed two automatic litter boxes. Matt took care of the horses. Peyton fed the cats put the chickens in the coop and made the beds. I vacuumed and we took out all the trashes and washed all the dishes. The next morning Peyton wakes up to a text from Liz. She said that when they got home two of the horses had kicked over their trough looking for water. Also that tipped over bowl in the chicken coop was supposed to be filled with water. There was another water bowl in there but it was "dirty". She said there were other things that she was disappointed about and felt that Peyton had not done her job at all. Peyton was beside herself with worry and sorrow. She immediately text back saying that she didn't know about the chicken water and that we had been filling up the horse trough and maybe she underestimated how much the horses drink. She felt terrible and told them how sorry she was. My whole family felt bad and we were confused about what happened with the trough. We did not get another reply from Liz. I ended up texting Mandy the next day and told her that I felt so bad that Peyton did not live up to their expectations. She was clearly very angry and said that when they arrived back home at 10:30 p.m. that the horses were upset. She said there were many other things they were disappointed about but they weren't worth mentioning. I said something about how I was afraid it would affect Matt and Liz's work relationship and she said that was ridiculous that had nothing to do with that and they still would like Peyton to come over and have movie nights. I didn't respond and I am not sure how to feel about this. At first I was thinking yeah Peyton should have known better. But I am starting to think they are taking it too far. I don't think they are planning on paying her one dime for our hard work. I do understand that they feel their animals were not attended to but I assured Mandy that I personally saw them being fed every day and my husband says he filled up that horse trough for Peyton 2 days before their return. It is true that we don't know horses very well and maybe they do drink a lot or maybe they can also spill their water trough and maybe even in excitement for their owners return after 15 days.. When Liz return to work she and Matt had brief words in which Liz said that the bags inside of the automatic litter box were not completely clipped into place. This would have been my fault since I cleaned the litter boxes for Peyton. Every automatic litter box is different including the ones that I have. I definitely feel like this is nitpicking and no thank-yous or sorrys were exchanged. I definitely feel bad if the horses were thirsty definitely the chickens were okay being let out daily and it pouring rain constantly here. According to them, there was minimal water in their coop. Peyton has been crying every night I have been losing sleep and she is asking not to be left alone. This terrifies me and makes me very sad since Mandy was her only "friend". My take: no animals died. She is only 18. The water bowls weren't specifically mentioned. You were asking a lot from us. Hire a professional if you need professional work done. Their take: obviously all of our animals need food and water. We just won't ask her to house sit again. It won't affect our relationships. Not even sure what they're thinking about compensation at this point. submitted by /u/Asknicelydammit to r/whatdoIdo [link] [comments]

Anyone else happy to move on from a robot litterbox and return to box-scooping servitude, or is that just me?
We had a Popur x5 automatic litterbox for 2 years. Year one, I’d have told you I loved the thing dearly, it worked perfectly and was nice and roomy for the cats. Year two, things slowly started failing, and taking the whole system apart to try to fix it was a huuuge job for my small one bedroom apartment. Towards the end, it was just gross all the time, squishing the clumping litter and things constantly getting stuck to the cloth liner. It just felt gross to have in my otherwise tidy home. Plus, the thing took up a massive amount of floor space. Yesterday, it was finally time to chuck it and either buy a new one, or go back to a regular old box. So I set myself up a nice tidy little litter cleaning space for a fraction of the cost of a robot, and it honestly feels so much nicer and cleaner. It’s a huge box for the cat and takes up half the space the robot did. JMHO. I wanted to love the not-scooping but it feels like my little zen space when I get the litter all clean and smoothed out 🤣 submitted by /u/StonewallDakota to r/cats [link] [comments]

Automatic Litter Boxes?
Me and my wife recently got out first cat, ≈10 weeks old now, 2.1 pounds. I’ve been looking into automatic litter boxes but this is obviously a new thing for me. We have 3 dogs, and one of them likes to eat cat poop out of the litter box, so having to block off the litter room where only the cat can enter is quite annoying. With that being said, is an automatic litter box a good idea? If so, what would you recommend? Should I wait until she is bigger to invest in something like that? I’m trying to stay sub $300, I can’t justify spending $700-800 on a automatic litter box. submitted by /u/AlexBurns3 to r/Catownerhacks [link] [comments]

AI in the cat litter box?
Until today, I owned two dumb automatic litter boxes. One died. I can't replace it with the same because the company that made them went out of business. Their litter boxes lasted only 10 years, resulting in a loss of market share and ultimately leading to bankruptcy. It took me a long time to find an automatic litter box that doesn't have an AI-driven app, camera, or use proprietary litter. An AI camera to take images of my cat poop for some nefarious purpose. All of this is very crappy. submitted by /u/CeilingCatProphet to r/Anticonsumption [link] [comments]

Looking for automatic cat litter for Maincoon
I recently bought an automatic cat litter box, but it feels a bit on the smaller side(petpivot autoscooper). My regular-sized cats are using it just fine, but my Maine Coon seems to avoid it. I’d love some recommendations for a large automatic litter box, preferably new models from this year, since these products change so quickly and older versions aren’t really relevant anymore. Picture of the baby, he is 11 month and chonky boy almost 20lb. submitted by /u/Additional_Star_9720 to r/mainecoons [link] [comments]

I just saved a cat from my walls: what do I do?
This is a very long and bizarre situation and I'd like to ask for advice since I'm very new to cats, I'll leave a tldr at the bottom just in case. Two days ago I heard what sounded like meowing coming from the walls of my bathroom. I wasn't sure if it was a cat or just my ventilation ducts being bad (my apartment kind of sucks and I've had problems everywhere), so I put in a maintenance request. Yesterday, I received a call from my apartment maintenance staff saying they cut holes in the drywall of my dining area and found a kitten in my walls and that it wasn't cooperating with them in coming out, so they put some wet food in a cage and just hoped the kitten would smell the food and eventually come out. The kitten was running around in the back of the wall behind two pipes, and after some inspection I realized that the kitten might be too short to climb over the pipes and too scared (or its head was too large) to climb through the pipes. Additionally, one maintenance guy said the kitten had fallen into (or walked in? Idrk) my insulation through a vent, and that there were 2 or 3 other kittens by that ventilation opening. I have no clue what that means or where that vent is, but that means this kitten is potentially part of a larger litter of kittens belonging to another cat somewhere in my apartment complex. After talking with my maintenance people some more I got the impression that they weren't going to actively try to help the kitten get out, and I happen to have a soul and don't want a kitten to just die, so my friends and I took matters into our own hands. I took the wet food from the cage and placed it into the drywall so the kitten didn't starve (cuz it had been almost 2 days without food at this point), and my friends came over and were able to fish the kitten out. After about two hours of luring him around with wet cat food we finally got him out of my walls and got him to a vet. The next part I wasn't present for (I work pretty insane hours so I had to go to bed), but the vet apparently said there was no microchip and the cat was very healthy and well fed. Apparently he's around 4 weeks old (no guarantees though). The vets conclusion was that the mother was somewhere nearby in my apartment complex, but since the kitten wasn't microchipped they said it's likely that the kitten and its mother are both strays. If what that other maintenance guy said earlier is true then theres a whole litter of strays, with at least 2 or 3 other kittens somewhere in my apartment complex. Currently two of my friends who helped rescue the kitten are taking care of him, they're roommates and happen to own two other cats (one of whom they raised as a kitten) so he's in good hands for now, but they don't have the means to fully own him and continue raising him. We're planning on taking him to get dewormed and vaccinated next week. I've been looking into getting a cat for a while now and I've reached a point of financial stability in my life so I think I can handle it. I originally intended to adopt from the Atlanta Humane Society, but after living with this kitten for almost 2 days in my walls I want to find a home for him. However, I recognized that this is a kitten and not a fully grown cat, and that comes with a different set of challenges. Hopefully yall enjoyed the cat saving story! Now my friends and I need advice. First: I'd like to take care of this kitten myself! I want to own a cat, and I have plenty of space in my apartment for one since I live alone in a 1b1b. However since it's a kitten I'm aware that comes with certain other challenges: I've read a bit from kittenlady.org, and my friends are currently weaning the kitten onto wet food. Additionally, I work from 7 am to 4 pm roughly on a 9-40 schedule (every other week I get friday off), so my apartment will be vacant while I am at work. I also don't know how often he needs to be fed, and I'm not sure if he'll be fully weaned off by the time I'd have to take him in. That being said, I'm willing to dedicate my entire afternoons and evenings (about 5 hours a day) as well as my weekends and off days to taking care of the kitten and socializing it for as long as that takes. Is that enough time for me to take care of a kitten and feed him? I'm aware of the paw trick while he's sleeping to get him used to me handling his paws, but what other important milestones or tricks do I need to be aware of if I were to raise this kitten? Second: I think I've found a comprehensive list of things that I need to buy to take care of cats. On my list I have a litter box, non-clumping litter, wet food (and eventually dry kibble), cat toys, a scratching post, pee pads, and a cat enclosure since I don't have a small restricted space for the kitten. I'm also going to buy an automatic feeder down the line, but I'm not sure if thats a good idea for now since he's still a kitten. Is there anything else I need to purchase to take care of a kitten? Third: I will be checking around my apartment later today to see if I can find the momma strays and the other kittens in the litter. I know the momma stray exists since I've seen her roaming around my apartment, and I'm planning to buy some wet food to lure her out. After that though I have no plan and no idea what I should do next. Any advice? I live in the Atlanta metro area in Georgia, so do I take them all to the humane society? If I can't find the vent or the rest of the litter, what else can I do? TLDR: I just saved a 4 week old kitten from my walls and I want to take care of him, but it would be my first cat and I need advice. Thank you all in advance for your help! I've also posted this in r/cats, but since it is a kitten after all I figured I should post here as well! submitted by /u/a_coney_dragon to r/kittens [link] [comments]

TLDR: I just saved a 4 month old kitten from my walls and I want to take care of him, but it would be my first cat and I need advice. I am chronically ill and am needing an automatic cat litter box.
As per the title of this post, im chronically ill with a bunch of health conditions some of which have left me essentially bed bound. I have two cats and i love them so much, but cleaning the cat litter in the morning for example can actually wipe me out for a number of days. I would like to have to rely less on those around me for help with this when I am unable to do so, what are your recommended products? Any that actually work and are worth the money? I spend a lot of my money on my health so I don’t have too much to splurge on, however I would appreciate all recommendations regardless!!!! Thankyou!!! Plus pic of one of my cats for smiles 😃 submitted by /u/Different-Essay-808 to r/CATHELP [link] [comments]

PSA: Do not take your fancy indoor cat camping
Pic 1: Just hours before her escape. Pic 2: The day we got home from camping and after we gave her a bath. Being a potato sack without a care in the world or any appreciation for the life of luxury we provide her. She could’ve been hungry, wet, dirty, scared, and alone out there! On a mountain! Did I see all the warnings on Reddit about the risks of taking your cat camping? Yes, I did. Did I read that there were too many devastating lost ads to count? Yes, I did. Yet, I thought my fancy, indoor, ragdoll cat could beat the odds and turn into an adventure cat. Welp, I got humbled, and I now know for certain that one should NOT risk taking their indoor cat outdoors, as obvious as that may seem. My husband, dog, cat, and I went camping. Since it was to be our first 3-day camping trip, we worried about leaving our cat home alone since she had never been alone more than a night. Plus, she was on half wet food that we wouldn’t be able to automatically dispense like the dry food. We thought it would be more reassuring to keep her with us, and we even bought a new air tent that would make the entire tent as one zipped up seamless tent. I made sure to get a tent that had two compartments so that the outer compartment would serve as sort of like the airlock of a spacecraft. That way, we could secure her in the interior section before unzipping the tent opening. She was already used to the harness as she had gone on a few day trips with us before, so we also kept her on a long leash inside the tent. We packed everything that would help ease the stress of a new environment, bringing a scratch post, a litter box of decent size, and lots of snacks. It was fine until the early early hours of the morning. She had been meowing, which was not normal and I worried it would wake the other campers. Finally around 4am, she calmed down, and I went to sleep. At 5am, my husband woke to use the restroom and woke me up when he said in a panicked voice, “Coco. Where’s Coco??” We dumbly checked under the blankets and searched the nooks and crannies to no avail. I felt dumbstruck. We lost her. We lost our daughter. We became “those” irresponsible parents. We didn’t deserve them. After searching around the area, under cars, and walking up and down the road, we tried to tell ourselves and each other that we had another two days and Coco would come back to us. In our hearts though, we knew that she wouldn’t. She wasn’t one of those outdoor cats who came back home at night. She has zero survival skills, and she’s even a little clumsy at home! We thought of several other things to do like having the camp manager make an announcement over the loudspeaker, going site to site asking campers if they’d seen Coco, putting up notices on social media and local community sites, etc. We felt so heavy and our future as a family looked bleak - look at what happens when families lose a loved one? Then, suddenly my husband said let’s take the car and drive down to the village further down the mountain. We drove about two kilometers down slowly, calling her name out. When we reached the village, we turned around and on our way back up still calling her name, we saw her walking in the same direction as the car, up the hill, in the middle of the road looking back at us. As if she had heard us call her name. But the car was still rolling forward and she started running away. I unceremoniously threw my dog into the back seat (I apologized to him later), and I jumped out of the moving car running at top speed. I had lost sight of her though when I was jumping out of the car and at my husband’s shouted directions, I turned quickly into an open shed which had both sides open. Because I was still running, Coco, who had actually stopped running and had been sitting in the shed, was surprised by my fast approach and skittered into a 1.5-ish meter long piece of pipe. I quickly ran to the other side where I anticipated her exit, and her head popped out for a minute making eye contact with me, her wide eyes seemingly asking, “Mom?? Is that you?” Not to risk another flight, I blocked both ends of the pipe until my husband caught up, pulled her out and cradled her closely to his chest while simultaneously yelling, “COCO!!! WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN????” It was a freaking miracle. Three hours of wild adventuring for Coco. Forty minutes of extreme anxiety for Mom and Dad. To make this already long story shorter, I will leave out the details about the grandma on the farm, my dog’s unusually loud whimpering just before we discover Coco, my husband’s fervent prayer, and my own almost-supernatural vision just before finding her. Lessons learned: don’t take your fancy indoor cat outdoors no matter how prepared you think you are, no tent is cat-proof, and pray hard. By the way, for those who might be curious as to how exactly she got out of the tent, we found cat hair caught on the zipper. Never having shown us that she could escape her harness and do more than open door handles in our apartment, we found she had another talent. She freaking nudged the zipper open. submitted by /u/LouisCocoUmma to r/cats [link] [comments]

Automatic litter box thats been killing cats
https://a.co/d/8h0pdw3 Amazon link to the box that’s been killing cats. These boxes are from aliexpress so different companies can sell them on amazon. If you’re feeling up to it you can go and report the item on amazon. They’re not allowing people to write reviews unless they have proof of a purchase. There are many of these and most have been removed but still other companies can post them. If you want to see a video on this box heres a youtube video: https://youtu.be/xepC3-Ia9ho?si=iHVsKY13KHuazmCB Edit: the youtube video itself is not graphic but if you are sensitive to the topic I would suggest just taking my word for it. The machine is awful. Double edit: was found on Wayfair as well. https://www.wayfair.com/pet/pdp/tucker-murphy-pet-self-cleaning-cat-litter-box-large-capacity-automatic-litter-box-app-control-suitable-for-multiple-cats-white-grey-w112389058.html I am not sure how to report it on their site. Email I guess. submitted by /u/Capable_Addition_210 to r/CatAdvice [link] [comments]

YSK There's a generic automatic self-cleaning litter box that has killed multiple cats due to the way it's designed. No recall has been issued and it's still being sold under a number of different brands (or no brand at all) on retail websites like Amazon, Wayfair, AliExpress, and Temu.
Why YSK: This generic automatic self-cleaning litter box contains a fatal flaw that has killed multiple cats. Despite this, no recall has been issued and it continues to be sold under a number of different brands (or no brand at all) at many popular retailers. There are many different variations, here's an image of some of them: https://i.imgur.com/1veTEQY.jpeg The basic mechanical function of the litter box is a ball inside an enclosure that vertically spins upwards to clean itself. When it spins, cats have been caught in the entryway, killing them. The sensors don't appear to function correctly without a firmware update (which owners have not been notified to apply), so the ball continues to rotate upwards even if there's an obstruction. And even if the firmware update has been applied, the design of this generic litter box is still inherently dangerous. If the sensors fail for any reason, even after applying the firmware update, it still poses a danger to any cats using it. There's no single brand that this litter box is sold under. If you're researching an automatic litter box, ensure it doesn't look like any of the products in the linked image. Also, make sure that it doesn't mechanically function as I described, particularly with an entryway that closes. Video: One Man Five Cats on YouTube has an excellent video on this litter box, including tests on an actual unit he purchased from AliExpress. Warning: The video contains disturbing imagery, such as a picture of the litter box covered in blood and a picture of a cat having trouble breathing because she got her head stuck in the litter box. Despite the graphic content, I still highly recommend anyone considering buying an automatic self-cleaning litter box watch the video so you know what products to avoid. It's incredibly informative and also covers automatic self-cleaning litter boxes that are actually safe for cats. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xepC3-Ia9ho The main things to note: Avoid any automatic self-cleaning litter box where the entryway closes. This is a pinch point, and in this specific litter box, it's where cats can get stuck and killed. When researching any automatic self-cleaning litter box, imagine a scenario where all sensors on the unit fail and it starts to clean while a cat is using it. Can the cat exit without being harmed? Are there any harmful pinch points or other areas that can cause harm, such as the cleaning mechanism inside? Answer these questions first before purchasing and test it in-person, if possible. Buy from a name brand with a reputation to uphold. The random brands that appear on sites like Amazon can be reported and have their product listings removed, but they can quickly relist the same product under a completely different brand, even using a whole new legal entity if they need to. List of dangerous brands: These are some brands that I've found selling this generic litter box just on Amazon alone, but remember that this list is absolutely not comprehensive and will likely be out-of-date in the future because, even if these listings get taken down, it's trivial to simply relist the same product under a different brand. Also, remember that this dangerous product is currently being sold at other retailers, such as Wayfair, AliExpress, and Temu. The One Man Five Cats YouTube video investigates a brand on Amazon called Amztoy, which actually paid off a customer whose cat was killed so that she would remove her review from the product listing. The Amztoy listing has already been removed from Amazon. Lppetog, still available at the time of this post. BUPPLEE, still available at the time of this post. LaresarPets, still available at the time of this post. COZYBLUE, still available at the time of this post. BERRIHORT, still available at the time of this post. NICEGREEN LIFE, still available at the time of this post. LATURE, still available at the time of this post. KIKGUZE, still available at the time of this post. For more, the pinned comment in the One Man Five Cats YouTube video contains a link to a Google Drive with PDFs of more products. (I've omitted links to the Amazon products to avoid getting caught in the spam filter, but searching by the brand name + "litter box" should allow you to find them.) Remember, these brands are likely protected by legal entities that are trivial to setup and shield their proprietors from many legal consequences, especially if they're based in a country different from yours. And because this generic model is sold under so many different brands, no official recall notice has been sent to people who already own them, so please notify anyone you know who might have one, or might be considering purchasing one. submitted by /u/gixk to r/YouShouldKnow [link] [comments]

Whats the best automatic litter box
Help, plz. There are so many options and Im terrible at navigating reviews. There are so many different opinions on all the products I’ve looked at. Or the price is out of my budget. This is what Im looking for: < $400 Good odor control Good quality (I’d like it to last long with no little to no problems if Im paying hundreds for it) Easy to clean Low litter tracking (my cats like to make a mess) Good ventilation Free returns / refund (I need the option to return it if its not good) I’ve looked at: 1. Petkit puramax (my top choice rn but ive seen some bad reviews) 2. Catlink 3. Litter robot (too freaking expensive) 4. Poprhino (never heard of the brand and Im unsure of the quality) I had a petkit purax for awhile it was decent and worked well for the time that I had it, but I had some complaints. My cats were always kicking litter out of it and it wasn’t that easy to clean. I sold it hoping to use that money to help purchase a better litter robot and now, compared to everything I’ve seen so far, it might’ve been one of the best ones out there in my price range. now I feel stupid :( submitted by /u/Public_Machine8264 to r/CatAdvice [link] [comments]

Is an automatic litter box worth it if you only have ONE cat??
I’ve seen many people rave about automatic litter boxes online, but they always say they have at least two cats. Does anybody here have only one cat and think it’s still worth it? I scoop my litter once every 2-3 days. Edit: After reading the comments I have been influenced to go ahead and get a litter robot. That’s what having my “big girl job” is for, right? Also, apologies for scooping every other day. First time cat owner here. I just got my cat two weeks ago. I will go apologize to her now (: submitted by /u/Patty_Layne to r/CatAdvice [link] [comments]

Would my apartment be too small for two cats?
Hello, I’m hoping to adopt a cat(s) at some close point in the future, and I had my family mention that my apartment (~580sqft) is small and would not be big enough for two cats who want to run around and explore. I beg to differ, but it does cause me some concern, since I want them to be comfortable. I’m leaning toward two cats since I’m at work for nearly 9 hours a day, and I think it would be nice to have a companion during that time since they’re not just home alone, especially for a young cat. Furthermore, I’m struggling to decide where a good litter box place would be. I am considering getting some kind of automatic litter box since this would be a smaller area with multiple cats, but I would need a good spot. My top candidate is the corner near the screen door and bookshelf (pic 3) but that could also be better suited for a cat tree? Could also do the bedroom, but I’m sure people want the potential smell further away from their personal area. There may be room in the closet (pics 7/8) but I’d have to move things around, and I’m worried an odor could transfer to my clothes. Lastly the bathroom is an option, but it would have to be a very small litter box to fit on either side of the toilet. Please delete if this isn’t enough about cats, I’ll understand, but otherwise I’d appreciate any advice! Thanks! submitted by /u/NeonWafflez to r/cats [link] [comments]

How do I get my blind kitty to stop begging for food?
Stevie is a little rumba and will eat anything and is seemingly hungry all the time. I’m sure he had to scrap for food as a blind street kitten. I have an automatic feeder for him as well as for my other cat (whose feeder I put on the counter, out of Steve’s reach and voracious appetite). How do I keep him from climbing over me anytime I eat anything? He’s such a persistent little bugger but also such a sweetie. I put him in the bathroom (with water and litter box) sometimes for a timeout when he’s wrestling too hard with Melo, my other cat of 11 years. I don’t have a big apartment and don’t wanna close him off every time I’m eating. submitted by /u/Parking_Release7089 to r/cats [link] [comments]

When my wife gets a Wi-Fi enabled automatic litter box for the cats and leaves me unattended with it, bad things happen...
That's right. The cat box has been connected to our home automation system and has been dubbed the Critter Shitter... Now, whenever the cats use it, it will automatically cycle, and once the waste container fills up an email will be sent out with the subject line of "Shitter's full!" and the message "The Critter Shitter is full! Clean the poop box you heathen!" I have integrated it into SmartThings so that it can trigger lighting alerts, and I've added it to WebCoRE as well for automated Alexa voice notifications... Now she'll yell "The Shitter's full!" When a cat steps into it, it kicks off a timer in WebCoRE and then announces "Yay! Somebody pooped!" on several Echo units in the house. I set this up without my wife knowing, so it should be a funny surprise for her. I'm also tempted to set up SMS alerts so that every time it gets used between certain hours of the day she'll get a text... I know she'll kill me for it, but I'll go out laughing. Up next, connecting it to Twitter to tweet whenever the cats use it. Who knew that playing with poop could be so much fun?! Edit: This is the one we got. It is super-expensive, but will pay for itself in the first year with litter savings by reducing the active number of litter boxes we currently have. www.litter-robot.com submitted by /u/Synssins to r/homeautomation [link] [comments]
