Best automatic feeder brands for a genius and inhumanly strong cat.
My cat Jam is a 9lb force of nature who unfortunately has a vet diagnosed eating disorder similar to PICA. In short, she is obsessed with any and all food (even things that remotely smell of food), and will eat non edible things to get to a food source (cardboard, plastic, and silicone mainly). She had a whole internal blockage scare because she ate the silicone top that covers her wet food that a pet sitter left out (against explicit written instructions to not do that). She is also extremely buff, and will use those muscles for evil. Jam gets the extreme and dog level treat puzzles that that she solves in 1-2 days. She is smart and determined to get what she wants. All food in the house is behind people locks, the trash has a raccoon lock on it, the pet food and treats are in a locked bin with heavy things on top, and she has a cage that she goes in when we are cooking, washing dishes, or have food out if that gives you any idea of her level of determination. For anyone worried about the cage it is large, and tall more akin to an enclosed cat tree. She sits in it willingly throughout the day to sleep and bird watch. Onto my actual question lol. I want to invest in an automatic feeder so Jam can get a small lunch while I am work. I also want one in case I am gone for extended hours (like a horse show where I am gone 4am-9pm) so she can eat on time. She gets dry in the morning and wet at night. I don't really care about a feeder's wet food capabilities as she can suck up having dry for a night or two, and she sure doesn't care as long as it is food. Bearing all this in mind, is there an extra sturdy feeder that she can't tip, pop the lid off, pull the bowls around, gets her little claws and paws in, or have pieces in general she can manipulate to eventually open or dispense it (if she thinks it can be done she will spend literally all day trying). It also can't have pieces or parts that she can break off and chew because she will eat those pieces. I know I am asking for a unicorn device, but any help is greatly appreciated! I have this cross posted in r/cats if anyone wants to see a picture of the little monster. submitted by /u/Current_Sea_ to r/CatAdvice [link] [comments]

Being 40+ and living on your own is actually pretty great
Alright, confession time. I’m in my 40s, never married, no kids, and I honestly cannot picture living any other way. I’ve lived with partners before and every single time I ended up hating it. I don’t want to get shoved into some default “woman = domestic manager” role just because I have a uterus. I’m not interested in being the one who cooks because I “know how,” or picking up someone else’s socks forever. I also really hate sharing a bed. I’m a super light sleeper, and even the sound of someone breathing can keep me awake. Snoring is a hard no. On top of that, I’m an introvert with a brain-heavy job that requires a lot of quiet time for thinking and writing. I’m not aromantic, I actually like having a partner, but as soon as we move in together everything goes downhill. I feel watched and suffocated, like there’s always someone there, noticing and silently evaluating how I spend my time. Living alone is honestly the best. I can wake up whenever I want and do whatever I want without anyone judging me. Since I work from home a lot, some days I just… don’t get dressed. Don’t brush my hair. No one cares. Other days I’ll spend 10 hours straight playing a game. I can eat dinner in bed, or dance around my living room in my underwear, without it automatically being read as “I want sex now.” My space is set up exactly how I like it, and no one moves my stuff or messes with my system. And no, I’m not lonely. I’m not some tragic “cat lady” stereotype waiting to be eaten by her pets. I do have a cat, but she’s got an automatic feeder, so my corpse is safe. I’ve got family who love me, close friends I’d trust with my life, and a job I actually enjoy. Will I die alone? Maybe. But honestly, so will everyone, if you zoom out far enough. I could also just get hit by a bus tomorrow. So I’m choosing to actually enjoy the life I have right now, which for me means accepting that I’m genuinely happier living by myself, even if the world keeps insisting I should be miserable. I’m posting this for anyone else who needs to hear it. There is nothing wrong with us. We’re not broken or “too picky” or whatever. We just function better solo at home. The problem isn’t us, it’s everyone insisting there’s only one “right” way to build a life. submitted by /u/cipherclyx to r/LivingAlone [link] [comments]

i think my automatic feeder turned my cat into a zombie, help!
first time poster and new cat parent here. i adopted my boy about a month ago (1-3yrs, domestic shorthair) and we chose him from the shelter because he had the most friendly personality i’ve ever seen. in the first 10 seconds of meeting him, he would immediately crawl in my lap, on top of my shoulders, push his forehead into me to ask for pets… and I was practically a stranger at this point. he was so friendly, outgoing, and loving, and even the shelter described him that way too in his bio- “outgoing, always looking to make new friends and soak up attention”. My boyfriend and I were looking for a cat with these traits because we have people over every now and then, and I didn’t want our cat to be stressed when we had guests over. I wanted our lifestyle to also fit the preferences of whatever cat we chose to add to our family. His background prior to being at the shelter was that he was a stray cat picked up by animal control — so we don’t know how old he is, we don’t know if he had always been a stray or if he had a prior home before us (he was not microchipped/neutered anything when they found him)… a lot of his background is a mystery, but we fell in love with how friendly, outgoing, and affectionate he was despite all the hardships he had clearly been through. A few weeks into having him, we decided to get him an automatic feeder because we were going to be away for the night and wanted to make sure he was fed on schedule. it seemed like it would be convenient too, and it even allowed us to spread out his meals throughout the day (smaller meals, 4x/day) since it could feed him when we are not home. since getting the feeder, though, he has become extremely food motivated and acting verrrry different. All he does is lay by his feeder waiting for it to go off, sitting and staring at it, not wanting to be pet or wanting to come near us. he will still play a decent amount, but he is definitely not as social anymore. he will be cuddly for about 10 minutes when i come home from work because he has been by himself all day. he used to sleep in bed with us and make biscuits, now he sleeps by the feeder no matter how hard i try to coax him into our room. he will sometimes come lay with me but it isnt until about 3am (at that point he had been staring at the feeder since 8pm when he was fed last). when he is interacting with us, he is mainly begging for food or trying to steal our food. he was not a beggar or interested in our food when we first got him either — in fact at the shelter he had food sitting out in a bowl and was able to graze. we can’t do that for him anymore because he will eat all of it immediately. it breaks my heart because i feel like he’s almost addicted to the dopamine of the feeder going off, and his big bright personality is starting to fade in the time he spends obsessing over it. It feels like the timing of this behavioral change lines up with when we integrated the feeder into his routine, but another part of me worries that maybe his friendliness was a facade that he learned as a survival mechanism as a stray — being cute and friendly gets you more food. now that he’s been with us long enough, maybe he feels safe to let that facade to the side? i really hope that’s not the case though. it breaks my heart when he doesn’t want to be near me, or if we have guests over and the only interest he has is if THEY are going to give him food or not. i’m thinking we try to go back to feeding him ourselves 2x a day and utilize the feeder only if we are out of town, and see if that does anything. TLDR does anyone have an assessment of my cats change in behavior, and any advice on how to best switch between feeding types (normal vs automatic) without stressing him out further? we r taking him to the vet this weekend but wanted to ask the general public as well. thanks in advance!! submitted by /u/megatron-timemachine to r/CatAdvice [link] [comments]

I am at my wits end.
Before I start, I love my cat. I am so so so so so exhausted with her screaming. And when I say screaming, I mean FULL BODY *YOWLING* that shakes my door. Me: sleeping because it is 4am Magpie: MMMMRRRRREEEEEWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWW. (Waits 5 seconds to make sure I heard)RRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!! (Two of these in quick succession) MRRRREEEEEEREERRREEEEEEEEEOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWOOOOOOOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This can continue for upwards of an hour I’m so tired. I want to launch her into the sun. She’s been with me for 9 years now and this behavior is not new. I have tried a huge number of techniques, each with consistency over a period of weeks. She still ruptures my eardrums every morning. Every morning. I’ve done everything I can possibly do. She has an automatic feeder so I don’t want to have her think I will give her kibble in the morning before her feeder goes off. I try to play with her. Every single toy in the arsenal. No interest. I try petting her like she enjoys. Sometimes works. The second I stop and try to go to sleep: back to screaming bloody meowder. I try picking her up. Typically helps for a minute. She likes to sleep with me normally but leaps off the bed, goes back to the kitchen, and screams. I’ve even broken down and given her a treat. No change. Medically, she’s 100% good. She had all the toys and play structures her little kitty heart could want. Her vet says she’s just vocal. We tried medication for a bit, absolutely no change. I don’t even know if advice will help, I’ve tried everything the vet has suggested. Zero difference. Here’s a pic of the furry criminal on her heating pad on my desk. She likes being near me so I bought a much larger desk and set up a space with her heating pad so she didn’t have to deal with my wiggly lap. She has her own water up there too. I try so hard to make her life a good one and she has reduced me to tears. I’m so tired. I’m so so so tired. I need sleep. EDIT: wow thank you all for the suggestions and advice! I’m heading to work and will continue to reply when I have time ❤️ EDIT 2: my goodness everyone, this got a lot more attention than I thought it would. It was such a complaint filled post early in the morning driven by sleepiness. I really appreciate all the comments and suggestions. I will try to reply to as many as I can! So sorry if I don’t reply to you, it’s not you, it’s me. submitted by /u/moyashi_me to r/blackcats [link] [comments]

Automatic chip protected kibble feeder for cats
This combines two pet feeders, an automatic kibble dispenser and a surefeed chip feeder, which is basically just a food bowl that opens for the correct cat only. I have two of these constructs for my two cats and now my special needs cat can only eat his kibble and my overeater cannot steal the other ones kibble. There is no commercially available product like this (petlibro one RFID comes close but requires the cat to wear a huge RFID collar which is a no) so when I saw someone do it with a different kibble feeder model I bought a 3D printer and designed my adapted version. I made this about 1,5 years ago and it has worked great ever since. I just wasnt really happy with the thievery protection as it was a bit flimsy and now finally got around to designing a verison 2 of that part and thought I'd share. Edit: model link in case someone is interested https://www.printables.com/model/1075438-petlibro-balimo-kibble-automatic-feeder-surefeed-c/files submitted by /u/Lina0042 to r/functionalprint [link] [comments]

Smart pet feeder wants me to pay for notifications
I’ve been using these feeders for my two cats for two years and loved the push notifications every time they were fed. It was a nice feature to have if I’d have to be away for a few days. I noticed I wasn’t getting the notifications today and opened the app to check if something changed. Sure enough, now they’ve blocked notifications unless I pay for a subscription. submitted by /u/Icy-Cheek-6428 to r/enshittification [link] [comments]

RFID/Microchip feeders - PetLibro vs PawsPik review
I feel like this may get lengthy, but I'd like to type up a good summary of my experience with these two feeders in a multi-cat household, because it's hard to find anything that's very thorough (as I realized when I was looking to buy). To start, I have six total cats in my house. Four are on the PetLibro RFID tag feeders. Recently, I took in my mom's two cats after she passed, and I opted to try out the PawsPik feeders because they read microchips, and mom had always told me they don't tolerate collars (I did find out later they will wear collars no problem, which becomes relevant). I attached a quick picture of two of the ones I have set up side by side for visual comparison, as well as relevant pics of the tags. There's a variety of diets in the house, so free feeding is not an option (not to mention I work hard to keep them at a good weight and free feeding will absolutely balloon them up, since most won't regulate their own intake). Let's start with PetLibro. These read an RFID tag. The tag is pretty small and relatively nonobtrusive, it hangs from their collar. Very lightweight. It triggers on the white mat in front of the feeder, and the door opens. When you get it, it's taken apart - You set the mat down, put the bowl on the mat, set the base on the mat that holds the bowl in place, and then install the side guards and the door. (If a cat with zoomies knocks into it, it may unseat the base from the mat and not work). The door mechanism folds the door upwards like a closet door, which I think leaves it a bit more open to be blocked by stray food kernels, because the door track is exposed. The feeder itself has a cute LED display that you can title to whatever you'd like, mine are the cats' names. PetLibro came out with their updated model, which I also have two of. The bowl is designed a little better so the food slides to the front and is easier to get. The door closes a touch faster. The app is nice - It tells me when the food level is low, if there's any error messages, and it shows me when my cat has come to the feeder and how long they were there. It shows in the activity log when food is dispensed and if it was successful. There's a "feed now" option where I can dispense a one-time feeding at any amount I'd like. I can set up feeding in increments as small as 1/12 cup. It will notify me if there's any errors, when food is low, when the desiccant packets need to be replaced, etc. This feeder only has "Closed Mode" where it will open to the correct cat and "Open Mode" which is free-feeding/not tag sensing. I had two of these when they first came out, and there was some issues, being a brand new device. One of the feeding rotors was malfunctioning right away - After a quick back and forth with the company they replaced the base no problem. My cats caught on very quickly. I have them set to feed three times per day - The cats get 1/2 cup total, 2/12ths each feeding. I did have one other issue with one of the original feeders after quite a while - The door wouldn't open all the way. The cat who used it never minded, he always just shoved it open with his face. But, there's a full TWO YEAR warranty on them, so even though it had been a year and a half I reached out to customer service and they shipped me a replacement no problem. (....And, I decided to keep using the original because the cat was fine using it and it would mean I have one for each cat, and at some point the problem resolved itself and it seems to work fine now lol). Let's get to the things I don't like. While PetLibro feeder will open with the correct RFID chip, there's no setting that will CLOSE it if it detects a different chip. This leads to some food stealing. The intended kitty will go to eat, and another cat will either squeeze in beside them, or snack over the top. This lead to me buying the acrylic shields you see in the picture - they're just 8" clear acrylic risers, but it keeps unwanted guests out while the intended cat is eating. For me, this has worked great. All of my cats normally crouch when they eat, so the shields don't bother them. If you have an aggressively food motivated cat you might have to secure it a little better. I've also read that some cats are able to force the door open when it's closed, though mine have been unable to. My biggest complaint is how LONG it takes the doors to close after the cat leaves. I have it set to immediate closure (1 second after cat leaves) and the "fast" setting but it takes up to a full 5 seconds to decide to close and it's not actually that fast, which lets other cats slip in and grab some bites. And, of course - If a cat loses a collar, they can't eat! Mine all don't mind their collars, but every so often one pops off and I have to go find it. Now onto the PawsPik. These do come with RFID chips as well - Larger flat silicone tags that lay flat against the neck, but they're quite large and I find that the silicone catches the fur. Right off the bat, I liked these feeders more. They're super sleek looking, 'all in one' so if a cat crashes into it running around it's not going to knock the base from the mat. It's very much 'plug and play' with very little setup. SUPER fast and easy to pair with a cat. It also has a cute LED display that I set to their name. It's very bright, which some may see as a downfall. The door is SNAPPY - It opens fast, and the moment the cat walks away, it closes fast too. The door mechanism is louder than PetLibro, but I don't mind that. I like the door open/close mechanism more as a whole, the whole door is in a track that rolls up into the feeder. The food tank on the back does unclip so you can remove it to fill it – Though due to the design of it (the fill hole being on the flat top) it's harder to empty if you need to do so, I had to send the last handful of kernels through the bottom dispenser because I couldn't shake them out of the hole when I switched food in one of them. The app is nice, you can feed portions as small as 1/8 (I prefer the 1/12). It tells you when the paired cat has come to eat, and how long they stayed at the feeder. The activity log does NOT include if/when the food dispensed, though the "schedule" part of the app will grey out the most recent feed time after it's dispensed. It also will tell me if the paired pet has not come to eat in over 24 hours, which I really like (I learned this when the shy kitty was first getting used to it, I was feeding her in her separate bowl in addition to having the feeder full and she avoided it for several days). It also has the "feed now" option of pushing a one time feed if I need to. PawsPik has more sensor settings than PetLibro. Open mode leaves the feeder wide open, and allows the registered cat to come and eat but closes it for any other chips or tags it senses. It has Free Feed mode, where it just remains open and doesn't sense any tags/chips. And it has Closed Mode, where the door is closed and will only open for the correct tag/chip. There's two options in closed mode: "Default" where it reads any and all other tags/chips, and the secondary mode where it only reads PAIRED tags/chips and ignores others - This will also be important lol. The first feeder I gave to Nyx, as she's quite food motivated (and she's the one who needs a diet). It paired to her microchip no problem. She realized quite fast that her food comes from the robot. However - She has to stick her head WAY in there for the sensor to pick her chip up (I imagine the exact location of the microchip will affect how well the sensors pick it up). She didn't understand that - She knew to approach the feeder to eat, but she couldn't figure out why it worked sometimes and other times it didn't. So, I paired it with the collar tag and put a collar on her (which she keeps on MOST of the time). 100% better, she had zero issues going up to eat... However, when her head is down in the bowl deep enough to eat, it DOES sense her microchip. In "Default" mode, it would read her chip as an unregistered cat. So, the tag would open the door, and her chip would immediately cause it to close the door. I had to set it to the secondary mode where it only reads registered chips - While this hasn't been an issue for me, if I had a bully cat that would shove his way in to eat beside her, it would not sense that cat and close, which is frustrating. Fast forward to today - I noticed when Nyx would go to eat, she would shove her head way in there. I suspect this is because the door opens starting at the back and she wants to get her face in there as fast as possible. So, I've actually removed the tag to try out the chip again, and it's actually working pretty well now! So, we will see how that continues to go. Now that she understands the feeder a bit better I think I can move away from the RFID. The second feeder I gave to Theia. She's incredibly skittish, so at first I just left it full of food in "Open Mode" after registering her to the feeder. She's also a grazer and the only one who will self regulate her eating, so I keep the bowl full of food. I have it set to close for any unpaired chips - And so far, this has worked phenomenally. Nyx learned pretty quickly not to even bother with the bowl (she is the one shut in the bedroom with Theia overnight while they adjust to the house), because it closes the moment she approaches. A few of the other cats have tried and also get shut out. It's pretty quickly responsive. It reacts to and reads the RFID collar tags for the PetLibro feeder so it closes right when they approach. Luckily, when a cat leans down to eat, that seems to be prime microchip sensing position so even if they didn't have the collar tag I'm pretty confident that the door would shut in time to keep them out. So, thus far all of the cats and feeders seem to be working. They all work with the different kibbles, though of course they vary slightly - I have to fill them a few days apart depending on how they dispense. Not varied enough to cause weight gain/loss, they seem to be close enough to 1/2 cup to not need me to adjust it, though I could see if a kibble is particularly large or small you may need to measure how much actually comes out and adjust accordingly. I think both feeders disclaim a 10% potential inaccuracy in amount based on kibble shape/size. So, in summary: Things PetLibro does better: Quiet, works well, smaller portion control, app shows you when food is dispensed, fantastic customer service, considerably cheaper PetLibro cons: Door mechanism isn't as good, door stays open a long time, not quite as sleek/multiple parts, does not read microchips at all, easier for other cats to come take food while intended cat is eating. Overall seems a little clunkier Things PawsPik does better: Super sleek all in one design, reads microchips, SUPER fast door, better door mechanism overall, app alerts when intended pet hasn't come to eat, more sensor settings including an "open" mode PawsPik cons: Chip reading could be more sensitive, portion control option only goes down to 1/8th cup, you can only set a single tag up to the feeder (so if I put a tag on Nyx it will still read her chip as another cat – PetLibro also only pairs with one as well but without microchip capabilities it's not as important), the tags design could be better, more expensive As an aside, in my googling on if there's smaller RFID tag options, I came across one person who solved the problem themselves. They said that since the feeder reads microchips, they just bought a pack of 5 microchips off Amazon for like $15 and sewed a small pouch for one. They registered it to the feeder and stitched it right to the collar. That seems like a SUPER good way to get around the big silicone tag. I would have a teensy bit of worry if a kitty got out and they were scanned for a tag at the vet - What if somehow they scanned the collar chip? - but that seems very unlikely (and I could always just register both chips to the cat!) if I end up needing to use collar tags again, I intend to try this. All of this said - All six cats are now fed on a robot schedule quite successfully, and has made mealtimes much less of a chaotic hassle (and now I can sleep in and not feel guilty!). Cats are all on their respective foods and kept at a good weight. 10/10 would recommend auto feeders. Here's a quick album of pics - Size comparison, example of cat eating from them, and a pic of the RFID tags on the collars submitted by /u/StoicSalamander to r/CatAdvice [link] [comments]

Catboxy wet automatic cat feeder review?
Hello! Is anyone tried that one? It seems new on the market but im very skeptical to buy it as the reviews seems very fake/chat gpt written (like they wrote based on every situation possible so the maximum of customer feel concerned…) It’s hard to believe everything is perfect with no bug at all (app/temperature…) I’m desperately trying to find a good wet feeder for my cat. thank you all! submitted by /u/Charming_Bid3349 to r/catfood [link] [comments]

Automatic Pet Feeder
Before I get yelled at for having an automatic feeder, my cat will pee on me while I sleep if there is no food when she wants it, so instead of continuing to use a plastic automatic feeder I made this out of reclaim stoneware. I also made a matching water bowl with a holder to keep said cat from dragging and tipping it over. 🤣 Glazes were Kiln Ice Arctic Blush, Floating Ginger & Sunset, Lavender Celadon and Acai Matte Shino fired to cone 6 with drop and hold. I’m an ADHD hobby potter (like many of us) and I think pottery is the perfect ratio of invention, experimentation, creativity and work to final product. I freaking love it. I can’t wait until I can retire (15 years) and do this full time. submitted by /u/Ath3na_Stoneware to r/Pottery [link] [comments]

Is it okay to leave 2 cats for 19 days with 1-2x/day sitter and automatic feeder?
We have to go across the country for about 19 days. The cats have 2 automatic feeders but we will still have a sitter drop in for once a day (30 min) and twice a day some days interspersed. Cats are healthy but I still always give the sitter my credit card in case of emergencies. I’ve never left my kitties alone with a sitter for more than 2 weeks :( My partner and I have moved really far away from our families and this will be the only time in the year we’ll be seeing them. We also have to split time between each others parents. I have also already shortened the trip by 1 week because I was getting nervous about leaving them for so long. Edit: we already have 3 pet cams and there’s an extra pet cam in the cat feeder too! submitted by /u/psychedelicporcupine to r/CatAdvice [link] [comments]

AITAH for icing out my friend of 15 years after she let my cats starve
My close friend (F30) and I (F30) have been very close friends for about 15 years now. With long friendships small spats have happened over the years that more or less got brushed under the rug. In between deaths in our families, road trips where she was supposed to meet a new bf in Florida ( we’re in On, Canada) I wouldn’t let her drive there herself to meet some guy off the internet. We’ve been every major life event together since the 11th grade. We looked out for each other, at least I looked out for her. A few weeks ago my friend, let’s call her Brittany agreed to feed my cats while I was out of town for the night. I have two cats and one is elderly with some health issues so I have had to switch them to a wet food only diet, meaning the automatic dry food dispenser had to go. Brittany was aware of this. On the morning before I left we spoke on the phone, I explained that I was going to leave food out for them however because of the automatic feeder they were used to getting small meals every 4 hours, I was slowly switching them to two meals a day because of the wet however with the longer gaps in feeding times my older girl was throwing up her food from eating too fast. They would be going 10-11 hours without another feeding before she could get to my house after she finished work at 10 Pm about 40 minutes away from where we live. We live 5 minutes away from each other, this was only the second time she has ever had to check on my cats. I explained to her they would be starving by the time she was done at 10 and she would need to go to my house straight away, she agreed and even seemed happy I was trusting her with something this important. I have trauma around losing pets in the past and adopted both my girls within the last two years. It took me along time to be comfortable looking after another living thing again and I take that responsibility seriously. Cutting to the end of the night I was about to go to bed around 12:30 am when I thought to call and see if she was still at my house and I could check on my cats, after she didn’t answer I checked out location sharing app. She was out at the bar across the street from work, also we work together after I got her a job. I called and messaged her multiple time, she didn’t answer until I told her “I can see your location and I’m coming home” I was only an hours drive away. She called me within 5 minutes of my last message, she tried to tell me that she couldn’t pick up because she was already driving to my house. This is really what she thought I would believe?? I explained that I could still see her location and she was in the parking lot of the bar and not moving at all. Then she started trying to tell me that yes ok she’s still at the bar but I have to understand that she wanted to hang out with a certain manager that had gone out to the bar with the rest of the staff. We don’t work in a field where cozying up with managers will get you anywhere. Later I also found out they were sitting on opposite sides of the bar and not interacting at allll. I asked her if she thought it was worth letting my cats starve so she could spend time with that manager She tried to tell me she would go to my house right away, she didn’t apologize I told her not to bother I can’t trust her and I was already on my way home I haven’t heard from her in three weeks and she’s been steering clear from me at work. I can’t help but feel guilty, in past arguments I’ve been quick to brush things aside and call it a day. She didn’t do this to me tho, she did it to my cats. I’m sure some of you think it’s silly or ridiculous, but she seriously hurt me by essentially abandoning my cats that completely depend on me for care. If she had done this to a human baby and not a fur baby she would be in jail today. What gets me is she could have said no, I would have come back early, she could have called and said something came up she couldn’t go to my place after work. I could have gotten over that, maybe even respected her for the heads up. She lied because she knew I would be upset, she didn’t think I would check in. She weighed her options and decided it was worth it to go out and spend time with people who, in the scheme of things don’t really care about her. submitted by /u/-MadDragon- to r/CharlotteDobreYouTube [link] [comments]

PawsPik® Automatic Microchip RFID Pet Feeder review
First, a link to the product: (This is not an affiliate link, I am not affiliated, do not make money from this post) PawsPik® Automatic Microchip RFID Pet Feeder I just got two of these feeders, which to my knowledge are the only feeders that are automatic (on a feeding schedule) and have a microchip sensor/door (to block cats stealing other cats' food). Initial thoughts: (see edits below) I like them a lot. They seem well built, hold a good amount of food (almost a months worth of food with the amount my cats get fed.), the door on them is sturdy, and while it makes a noise when it opens and closes, its not so noisy as to scare either of my cats. Setup was easy, and my cats took to using them *very* quickly, but your mileage may vary depending on the temperament of your cats. There is a guide about acclimating your cats included. I will update this review if I have issues in the future, but for now I solidly recommend them. Things you may need to buy: I recommend picking up 4 D Batteries per machine before it comes in so that its easy to add them during your initial setup as a backup power source. I didn't have any on hand. My pets have microchips, but the machine does come with one small silicone coated RFID chip per machine that can be attached to collars, so you don't *need* to have microchipped pets. If thats the case, it does not come with a collar, so you'll need to pick one up. Price: I got mine for $200 USD per machine. Shipping: They came in about 2 weeks. Packaging: Secure packaging, no damage. Setup: Very easy, there are basically only 3 parts: The machine, the power cord, and a removable stainless steel bowl. Plug the machine into the wall; keep any units 3 feet away from any other units. Install the app (which did require me to make an account, but it is free). Using the app, you'll go through the pairing process; it will have you press the lock button (which serves to 'lock' the other buttons so that things are not accidentally pressed), hold the wifi button, and connect the machine to your wifi. You'll then pair the machine to your pet. Enter pairing mode, and hold your microchipped pets head just inside the bowl. It only takes about a second, and pairing is done. Fill the machine with food. Set a feeding schedule through the app. Modes: --Feeding: Setting a feeding schedule is easy and intuitive through the app. You can feed in 1/8 cup portions or 1/4 cup portions. My cats are setup for 3 meals of 1/8 cup per day (plus some wet food that I will feed manually) You can set the machine to two different modes: --Door modes: The door comes with two modes. 1. Open Mode: The door stays open as the default, and when the feeder senses the microchip (or RFID collar) of any 'wrong' cats, it will close itself. It closes relatively slowly, so a determined cat might get to steal a bite or two of kibble. Once closed, it stays closed for a little while (maybe 20-30 seconds?) If the 'right' cat goes to it, the door doesn't budge. 2. Closed mode: The door stays closed as the default, and only opens when it senses the microchip (or RFID collar) of the 'right' cat. It opens slowly, and makes a little noise. This didn't seem to scare my cats, but one of them is brave, and the other is very food motivated; so you may have a longer acclimation period. There are other adjustments that you can make, such as how long the door remains open when a cat moves their head out (1 second, 5 seconds, or 20 seconds) while in closed mode, the name (or message) displayed in (very bright) LEDs over the bowl, or a do not disturb mode (during which the door remains shut no matter what cat goes in there) I've never really reviewed a product in depth, but feel free to ask questions if you have any! Edit/Update: I did notice after some testing that one feeder is less good at detecting the "wrong" cat. I don't know if thats due to the cats microchip, or microchip placement, the cats anatomy, or the feeder's sensor, but it sometimes takes as much as 20 seconds to detect that cat with that feeder. The other feeder detects the other cat very quickly everytime. I don't know what causes the discrepancy! It isn't an issue in my specific case because the cat that isn't detected as quickly is not the food stealer. Edit: More reviews of people whose sensors just aren't consistently detecting cats. submitted by /u/Joshculpart to r/dechonkers [link] [comments]

I've only ever bought 1 automated pet feeder
I just said goodbye to my cat after 15 years. Within the 1st year of owning my cat I realized she could not be trusted with food. I bought a super feeder. It's technically a fish feeder, but they sell versions for cats and dogs. It still works so I am boxing it up for my next cat. Technically there are a few cracks in a few of the storage bins because my cat was aggressive. So I could replace the bins for a small amount of money but the main part is as strong as ever. It was honestly the best approx. $200 purchase I made for a pet. I think I bought it in 2010 so that's a solid 14 years and it's still kicking. On the flip side over her life I bought 7+ automatic litter boxes. I've started to avoid buy many things specifically designed and marketed for cats and dogs. It feels like they're made to fail and double the price of other options. https://superfeederstore.com/?srsltid=AfmBOop4noIiewtdEzoHp9T5QnBljG9poYAdPvgNm6rMHkKOWcuO6QW- Don't mind their old school website. It is also designed to operate outside submitted by /u/That_Platypus9735 to r/BuyItForLife [link] [comments]

I was so excited to have found an affordable automatic pet feeder right before our week-long trip to Cabo.
As I hurriedly set it up the morning of, a small paper flew from the box and slid under the fridge unnoticed: “batteries not included”. submitted by /u/read-and-throwaway to r/TwoSentenceHorror [link] [comments]

LPT: Use an automatic feeder for your cats.
Use an automatic cat feeder to improve your life. The feeder will disassociate you from food supply and prevent your cats from waking you up early every morning. Instead your cats will only seek love and affection from you. They are also great if you go away on vacation and help to keep their weight in check with adjustable meal sizes. If you're getting a new cat, start out right! You'll be happy you did. submitted by /u/dblattack to r/LifeProTips [link] [comments]

I got an automatic pet feeder for my cats but it only has 1 spout. I want to 3D print an adapter to split the food into 2 bowls. Will PLA be safe for this use? I don't want my cats to get sick.

AITA for picking my dog over my pregnant sister?
Disclaimer: Throwaway + Not in the USA. This happened about a week ago but I'm getting a lot of shit from family and friends so I want an external opinion. Last year my (F32) sister (F28) was kicked out of her boyfriends house and I took her in. We don't have the best relationship but she was jobless and I was the only relative still living in our country. Surprise surprise... About two months later she figured out she was pregnant. One day she started to complain about my dog (A beautiful 2 years old half husky) and how it would be bad for her baby and that she wouldn't raise her kid with a "wild animal" around. (My dog is a total sweetheart) I told her it was my house and if she was not comfortable here, she could leave and my dog was staying no matter what, she kept complaining but i wouldn't change my mind. About two weeks ago i had to travel for work to a remote location for a few days, when I came back my dog was not home and my sister claimed she had no idea where it was. We got into a fight because I didn't believe her. I ended up storming off and asked a few neighbors if they had seen it, one told me the last time he saw it was when my sister took him somewhere a few days ago. She uses my uber account (because she's broke) so when I found an odd trip to the other side of the city, I connected the dots. I drove all the way over there and after asking around I found my dog in a street restaurant, the owner took him after a "blonde pregnant woman" left him leashed to a fence... I ended up explaining the situation, paying him like 500 bucks and i got my dog back. When I went back home I kicked out my sister, I gave her enough money for a week in a hotel and sent her on her merry way, she made a huge scandal and I admit I was a bit too forceful but i was furious. She called all my family and friends and they're all telling me I'm an asshole for picking my dog over my sister and that I should take her back, that i should value that unborn baby more than a silly animal. I think my dog is more important and what my sister did is unforgivable but I'll accept your judgement. (Update): First of all thanks for all the awards. I was not expecting gold for this. After reading all your comments i feel better with my decision. I'll try to answer some questions but I cant read all the comments. I'm sorry if I miss something: I left my dog with my sister because I never thought she would do something like this, she was complaining and that should've been a huge red flag but she complains about many things and never do anything else, I just thought it was something she'd forget about in a few weeks. I didn't leave her in charge of my pet in the sense that she didn't need to do anything for it. I have an automatic feeder and my backyard is big enough for it to go without walkies for a few days. I live in a country where animal protection laws are almost non existent. It would've been a hassle to get my lawyer to convince the police to get involved. Blame me for not using the proper legal channels but I just wanted my dog back as soon as possible. I was really lucky my sister was dumb enough to take an uber or i probably would've never found my dog. The easiest thing was to pay the guy who found him (I'm gonna sound like an AH for this but in that part of town people don't take animals for the goodness of their hearts, I was lucky I could convince the guy to let me "buy it back") About the "bit too forceful" part I mean I was furious and screamed like a mad woman (she was hysterical too) the neighbors got involved and supported me and i ended up throwing her the money for the hotel through the taxi window (I'm pretty sure I scared the hell out of the driver) I gave her money because even if I was mad, it felt wrong to throw someone pregnant to the streets with only her clothes and cellphone, at least the money would be enough for her not to starve for a few days until she gets help from someone else. She's not EVER living with me again, I'm going no contact with everyone who sided with her. Yes I explained my pov but i come from a very conservative family that "values human life above all", I've been drilled this in my head my whole life so it was hard to know if i was making the right choice (which now seems obvious) I don't really know why she broke things off with her boyfriend (the story changes a lot) but I'll tell you they met when she came to visit me a few years ago and she ended up moving in with him all in the same month. The arrangement was that she could live with me until the pandemic is over (no one would hire a pregnant woman + she works in tourism which is a dead field right now) submitted by /u/throwdog1111 to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]
