RE:Birthday Cake
For my first he loved blueberries so we did a sugar free banana bread as the cake (I fiddled around with the recipe to make it fluffier like cake) an then did a cashew based frosting with blueberries blended in for flavour and colour. He was a big fan and I’ll probably do something similar for this guy but with strawberries or raspberries because he doesn’t like blueberries.

TIFU dedicating my whole afternoon to baking banana bread and mango cupcakes just to find out I hate them.
Ever since I started baking I've heard so many good things about banana bread. Soft, sweet, nutty and so so heavenly. I'm not living under a rock. I know banana bread is a fan favourite. I've seen the praises. The reviews. The care and love put in them. I believed them cause why would the baking community lie. It has to be good right? Well I took time off, bought the ingredients, spent two hours making the dough, thought to myself, "hey it's mango season why not bake some mango cake or something. Well another hour later, I'm ready. I pop them in the oven and waited. I promptly decided I can't be bothered to make dinner, cause I can just eat cake. I'm an adult I can do that. I take it out.. they smell like bananas and mangoes. What did I expect. It's almost 8pm I let them cool and make myself a cup of coffee to go with the bread. I'm excited I cut the banana bread and its marvelous. Spongy, soft and perfectly baked. The mango cupcakes are just as beautiful. First bite of the banana cake: Why does it taste like this. Maybe I need another bite....no no no... why does it taste like this..Is it the sugar, the salt maybe I added too much baking powder... another bite.... it's the fucking banana. It tastes like cooked mushy banana i hate it. Okay I need to try the mango cupcakes. First bite: Okay it tastes like mango in a cake... yeah this is what it's supposed to taste like. The mango is nice. Another bite: Okay this doesn't go well with coffee. Maybe I need a different drink, that will help.. (I get a glass of vanilla yorghut) Another bite... Fuck I hate it. In conclusion all fruit flavoured cakes are disgusting and It's too late to cook, so I'm stuck with a banana bread that I fucking hate and mango cupcakes that are shit. I might order out. Edit: Okay I didn't make it wrong I'm just painfully slow in the kitchen. I'm told it's because I get distracted easily plus I wash all the utensils before baking. Also making mango puree takes a long time. Here's the recipe. 3 overripe bananas 2 eggs 1/2 cup sugar 1/2 cup vegetable oil 2 cups of flour A teaspoon of baking powder A teaspoon of baking soda 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon of salt Nuts and raisins (optional) Baked at 180°C for 50 minutes I wish this was AI cause at least I didn't have to suffer. Also i know it's not a dough. I might have used the wrong wording cause I was so sad, pissed and angry. I might try again so I'll gladly take any recipe ideas Edit 2: I'm learning that banana bread is just a shit ton of other stuff ( chocolate chips, nuts, nutmeg, peanut butter?, vanilla) with bananas. I somewhat want to believe this proves my point that banana bread truly sucks but I'm not sure. TL;DR: FUCK ALL of YOU BANANA BREAD LOVERS!!!!YOU LIED THIS TASTE LIKE REGRET. submitted by /u/MiserableSpeed8861 to r/tifu [link] [comments]

Looking for banana bread recipe
I’m looking for a good recipe for banana bread na super moist, gaya nung sa mga local bakeries. Parang usually oil based sila kasi I noticed na nagiging oily yung packaging. I can only find butter based recipes online pero that’s not what I’m looking for. They also call for sour cream or Greek yogurt but I doubt naman that local bakeries would use them considering the costing and ingredient availability. Including a photo of the type of banana bread I am trying to replicate. Ctto submitted by /u/ifftxif to r/BakingPhilippines [link] [comments]

Anyone have a banana bread recipe that was the best banana bread you’ve ever had?
You all were so helpful with my turkey situation so I return back to the pros for more advice. I can’t find my banana bread recipe and baking is the only cooking I have to stick by measurements with because the smallest tweak can ruin it (in my experience). I’m looking online for a substitute recipe but if someone can vouch for one they’ve used I will be very appreciative! submitted by /u/Terrible-Session-328 to r/WhatShouldICook [link] [comments]

The best banana bread ever
Thank you u/moonjelly33 for your fantastic recipe. This is literally the best banana bread I've ever had. It's light and chewy, but still moist even if I slightly over baked it. (I think my temperature was a little bit too high and I was using a dark pan.) My dog loved it, too! submitted by /u/rvp0209 to r/Baking [link] [comments]

Why does a banana bread recipe call for me to microwave the bananas, drain the liquid, boil half of it away, and then add it to the mix?
The recipe in question Peel 5 bananas and place them in a microwave-safe bowl; cover with plastic wrap then cut a few slits for air vents. Place into the microwave and cook for 4-5 minutes on high. Remove from the microwave and pour into a strainer that's placed over a bowl. Let the banana liquid drain into the bowl, stirring the bananas occasionally, for 15 minutes. You should have about 1/2 cup of liquid. Transfer the banana liquid into a small saucepan over medium-high heat. Boil the liquid, stirring often, until reduced by half (about 1/4 cup). Transfer the cooked/mashed bananas into a large mixing bowl. Pour the reduced banana liquid over the mashed/cooked banana, and stir until fairly smooth. I've cooked this recipe a few times now, and it tastes good, but I was wondering if the "banana liquid" step is necessary, or rather, what exactly is its purpose? submitted by /u/DrScienceSpaceCat to r/Cooking [link] [comments]

Are these bananas still safe to use in banana bread?
I was keeping these bananas in my freezer and took them out last night to thaw since I had planned on baking banana bread. I didn’t end up doing so and I unfortunately forgot to put them back in the freezer, so they ended up sitting out overnight. I hate wasting food so I hope they’re still okay to use in the recipe 😭 submitted by /u/Guilty-Olive-5699 to r/badfoodporn [link] [comments]

"Banana bread is cake" and other misnomer foods
So last week my boyfriend had some overripe bananas and says "I'm going to make some banana bread!" I'm like cool get on that quarantine banana bread bandwagon, I want some of that. Then he sends me a picture that is not banana bread. But it is. But it isn't. What he sends me is a loaf of bread that he put mushed up bananas in. He used his bread machine with a recipe from the booklet called "banana bread" I said darlin that looks great but that's not banana bread. He goes yeah it doesn't really taste anything like bananas what went wrong? I say did you use yeast? He says of course. I say that's weird because you don't really put yeast in banana bread. I said how much sugar did you use? He says 3 tablespoons. I say oh nono you need like 3 cups of sugar for banana bread. He exclaims what?! What do you mean 3 cups thats ridiculous. I say well banana bread isn't really bread it's like a muffin or a cake. He says why doesn't they call it banana cake then?! And I agreed. And wondered what other foods out there are very misnomered and cause confusion. The only other one I can personally think of is sweetbreads. Which are neither sweet nor bread lol. Also the weird bread didn't go to waste. We made french toast with it and it was pretty tasty. tdlr: Boyfriend made banana flavored bread. Banana bread/=bread, sweetbread/=sweet bread. Why they name foods this way? Edit- ok so now banana bread uses 3 cups of sugar. But it’s still usually like a cup per recipe(2 loaves). submitted by /u/dizyalice to r/Cooking [link] [comments]

My husband decided he wanted to bake banana bread today and he's popped out to ask me questions every 2 minutes
He's adorable! He never ever bakes, and rarely cooks. I am a fairly intermediate baker who's pumped out at least 10 recipes during quarantine. Today, I think purely out of boredom, my sweet husband exclaimed with a big smile, "those bananas have turned, I think I'm going to bake banana bread by myself!". So he texted back and forth with his dad (a master banana bread maker) and got a recipe lined up and away he went. I'm outside laying in the sun right now, and he's been popping out every couple minutes to ask where things are or if he should substitute this for that or if he should cut the sugar down... I'm just tickled by the whole thing, I think he's adorable for trying something new and out of his comfort zone. And even more tickled he sees me as some sort of baking expert lol. I love him and he's the cutest. ** UPDATE! The hubs came out with his beautiful looking bread fresh out of the oven, it rose perfectly and smells absolutely amazing. I told him to put it on the wire rack to cool. He went back inside to do so, and then popped his head out one last time and said, "I DID IT!" in the cutest voice hahaha. Having a proud mom moment.. even though I'm his wife. ** UPDATE #2! We're eating it and it's perfect! He knocked it out of the park. Bread tax ** UPDATE #3!* Here is the recipe my husband used that his dad passed along to him https://www.thespruceeats.com/basic-banana-nut-bread-4584069. It's not my FIL's recipe, just the one he's been using lately! Cheers and happy baking! submitted by /u/iamafoxiamafox to r/CasualConversation [link] [comments]
