Faucet size recommendation
My bathroom vanity sink is EXTREMELY shallow; 3.5 inches deep. I’d like to be really thoughtful about the size and dimensions of the faucet to try and avoid excessive splashing. I’ve heard low arc faucets are good. Any other measurements to be aware of? Is the water supposed to hit at a specific spot? Right in front of the drain hole or directly on top of the drain hole?

Sobrang greedy ng landlord na to. So nagrent ako sa condo nya for 7 months its a pet friendly unit. So itutuloy ko pa dapat yung lease ko sakanya kaso ang nangyare mag 8 months na daw ako sa pag rent so considered long term na daw yun so nagpapa add sya ulit ng another 45k deposit. 45k na yung deposit sakanya so hindi nako nag renew ng contract. So upon inspection andami nyang ininclude na idededuct sa deposit. Especially even after sinunod ko yung gusto nya na ipa deep clean ginawa ko para sa satisfaction nya. 15k ang ginastos ko sa deep clean tas sasabihin lang nya na mabaho at madumi pa din. Even yung aircon and grease trap kakapalinis ko pa lang nun last feb 21. April 27 yung end ng contract namin hinayaan ko na din na ideduct nya sa deposit even kahit ang nakalagay lang sa contract is routine maintanance. Andami nyang inadd sa checklist na hindi makatarungan even the display chip na sira namn na talaga bago ko magmove in sinama nya pati yung chairs na na deep clean na ipapaulit daw nya. Andami nyang sinabe during inspection na kesyo yung CR daw ay parang walang nakatira, pati mga kitchen wares pinabayaran nya e yun naman talaga lahat yun kesyo kulang daw. Andami nya ibinawas sa deposit kahit na deep clean na hindi pa din sya kuntento, mukang wala lang talaga sya balak magtira sa deposit ko. First time homeowner trying to replace the faucet. Believe the faucet is original to the house (2001). 3 hole, centerset setup. Thought the line should come off after I moved the nut, but it doesn’t. Bought a Hurran model replacement off Amazon with pop up drain. Watched youtube videos on the whole process but currently stuck on the removal step. Do I have to replace the shut off valve too? How do I find a bidet faucet that will fit on my old sink without drilling new holes?
I’m renovating my tiny bathroom and I’d love to add a little bidet faucet that sprays upwards to wash my bum! My sink only has one faucet hole and I’m not too keen on drilling. I’ve seen some deck mounted ones with a lever to one side but the reviews are kind of mixed. While scrolling on Alibab I also found lots of these ‘single hole bidet faucets’ with good ratings. The sellers are also great with what measurements I’ll need. Farmhouse sink with tight spacing on faucet holes
I have an Eridanus farmhouse sink installed and looking for some help on the faucet connections. See link for the model. It has a built in "backsplash" area for an 8" wall mount style faucet. I like the sink and would like to keep it. The problem I am having is the holes for the faucet were not set at the proper standard 8" spacing from the factory. They are more like 7-3/4". In reading some reviews online, it seems others have had the same problem. I was able to get a faucet installed on a very tight fit, but there are problems. The problem the tight spacing creates is that the connecting pieces of the faucet are being "squeezed" inward due to the holes being too close together. The result of that is it pulls the faucet connections out of proper alignment and they leak. If I get one side properly aligned it will stop leaking, but the other side will then leak more. If I get them set as equally as possible they will both leak. No matter what I do, I'm getting some amount of leaking. My questions for the forum: Any thoughts on getting a better alignment with the holes in general? Any thoughts on a faucet model that will allow for holes that are tighter than standard? Any thoughts on a kind of "adapter" that may help with aligning the faucet connection? I had a notion, as a sort of last resort, about grinding the holes to make them wider and relieve pressure on the faucet connections. I'm avoiding it as it seems to be a bad idea. Thoughts? I'm sure some will ask about return/replacement ... bunch of errors on my part there. First the sink was purchased too long ago to return. It took us a while to get the remodel done, so the sink was sitting uninstalled for a year. Second, it's my fault for not fitting the faucet to the sink before the remodeling job, so all the mounting hardware is already in place on the newly remodeled bathroom. Unless all sinks mount the same way as Eridanus (I doubt it), I'd rather try and make this work. Finally, Eridanus customer support is less than optimal. Just a reminder: Snake your drains
Bought a house 3 months ago, the bathroom sink was a little stinky. Tried some hot water and dishwashing liquid which helped a bit but only temporarily. Was considering baking soda and vinegar or Drano since it was getting annoying. Looked it up and it seems neither are great options. ... Then I snaked the drain. Oh. My. God. The amount of black gunky grossness that came out was too much. Then I took the plunger to the sink just for funsies (or angry determination) and the other side of the sink (the hole on the other side of the faucet to prevent overflowing) started spitting black gunk at me too. Faucet Holes Misaligned
Just had a quartz countertop installed over a bathroom vanity with two sinks. We opted for a three while faucet and the holes are not aligned. The right sink has a 1/4” difference in depth between the left whole and the right. The left sink isn’t as bad, but also misaligned. What are reasonable expectations? Is there enough slop in the faucet handles to hide differences in depth? Just a reminder: Snake your drains
Bought a house 3 months ago, the bathroom sink was a little stinky. Tried some hot water and dishwashing liquid which helped a bit but only temporarily. Was considering baking soda and vinegar or Drano since it was getting annoying. Looked it up and it seems neither are great options. ... Then I snaked the drain. Oh. My. God. The amount of black gunky grossness that came out was too much. Then I took the plunger to the sink just for funsies (or angry determination) and the other side of the sink (the hole on the other side of the faucet to prevent overflowing) started spitting black gunk at me too. Snaking that side too now. In good news, no more smell! Tldr; snake your drains fam. Faucet Holes Misaligned
Just had a quartz countertop installed over a bathroom vanity with two sinks. We opted for a three while faucet and the holes are not aligned. The right sink has a 1/4” difference in depth between the left whole and the right. The left sink isn’t as bad, but also misaligned. What are reasonable expectations? Is there enough slop in the faucet handles to hide differences in depth? Is this price unreasonable??
Installed 10 kitchen cabinets and 2 vanities. Bathroom countertop, reinstall bathroom faucets, had to rework some of the plumbing for both vanities. Tub drain pipe and drain had to be replaced. New lock and opening mechanism for bathroom window. Guy drives a Porsche and said this is expensive. I remodelled my girlfriend's bathroom because of failed waterproofing
(EDIT: please excuse some of the weird AI blurriness around the bottom edges of some pics: I shot these with a super wide 10mm lens with terrible sensor crop/vignetting, and I used photoshops refill feature to try clean up the corners, but I just realised it's left some ugly AI-looking funkiness on the very corners) (2nd EDIT: the hole in the ceiling above the shower is for a skylight, I'll install that and finish off the plastering once my partner's bank account recovers from the bathtub purchase. My Girlfriend recently bought her first home; A mid-2000s developer build in Pascoe Vale. Unfortunately, as expected of these kinds of builds in Australia; there was significant water damage due to failed waterproofing in the upstairs shower. This was, however, a good excuse to redo the bathroom for her and get rid of the grey floor tiles, grey wall tiles, grey vanity, and all other depressing mid-2000s developer-build stylings. She also wanted a bathtub, and a frameless shower. The existing bathroom wasn't big enough to achieve this, so I moved some walls and claimed space from an adjoining linen closet for the shower recess. I also had to do some tricky stuff with raising and lowering parts of the floor (difficult because of the truss beam system) to create the appropriate drop for the screed, to accommodate the threshold-less shower. (I did like 6 coats of waterproofing, above and below screed, used the most expensive bond-breaker tape I could source etc. because I did NOT want this bathroom to leak again!). She wanted a timber vanity. We discovered nice timber vanities are insanely expensive. So I built the vanity myself out of some cheap tassie-oak panels from Bunnings. I was very happy with how well that came up. My friends Milwaukee tracksaw made that very easy to do. I also dropped the ceiling by 45mm to create a recessed led "halo" light as the main lighting, which turned out really nice. My partner wanted a clear bathtub because she's a pervert (I'm currently refusing to bath in it for fear of being ogled and objectified). Oh; she would also like it known that she bought this bathtub BEFORE it was featured on The Block. She was not happy when it appeared on the block. (I think she wanted to order her tub, then the supply company go out of business, so she was the only person in Australia to have a clear resin bathtub). It looks fabulous, but it was monstrously difficult to silicone in place due to the caustic effect of the clear resin visually magnifying and emphasising the silicone bead from every angle inside and outside (And also I am not very good at siliconing). The total cost of this renovation was about $12k I think. It took me about 3 months, after work each day and on weekends. (although the amount of tiling here almost killed me). Replace cartridge of a Danze widespread bathroom faucet
Hi! The left faucet (hot water) of this Danze set has been leaking for a while. Two years ago, plumbers from a local company told me that the body cannot be unscrewed because of sediment buildup and they suggested cutting it with a sawzall and installing a new faucet. At that time, the leaking was not frequent and we decided to wait. Now that it leaks more frequently I want to try to fix it myself before spending over $1,000 (installation and cost of new faucets for two sinks). Gerber sent us two new hot water cartridges for free. These faucets use a ceramic disk cartridge (for hot water item 9b in photo 9). I was able to remove the handle as shown in photos 10 and 11. My questions are: 1) Do I need to unscrew the screws and lock nut under the sink as shown in photos 4 and 5 before attempting to remove (by unscrewing) the body of the faucet? 2) In the installation instructions (photo 7), it says: "Place the handle body through left hole. Assemble the parts and screw with lock nut". I imagine I need to reverse this. What is the "lock nut" they talk about? 3) Can I use WD-40 or similar to loosen any buildup inside the handle body? Would I apply it in the gap between the handle body and what looks like the top of the disk cartridge (photos 4 and 5)? I would appreciate any help. Where to find a bathroom sink drain for 1 3/8 opening
I had a very old sink faucet in my bathroom that was starting to leak. I took it out and attempted to put in all new parts when I got to the sink drain none of the drains that I bought would fit. It seems as if there is a standard 1 1/2 inch opening if you go by all of the parts for sale at Home Depot. None of them would fit my 1 3/8 inch sink hole. Bathroom faucet replacement question
I want to change a crappy, drippy, 2 handle 3 hole 8" Ctr faucet to single handle. I have replaced a few faucets before but none that had whatever all going to the that tap holes seen here (two hoses, with copper tubing coming out of them, to each handle hole???j. Advice on bathroom faucets
One of my bathroom faucet handles is getting to be sticky and hard to turn, and loose at the bottom. I don't really care about esthetics, so I'm trying to do this on the cheap. Price for faucets seems to run from $130 - infinity (or at least in the $1000s). What exactly is the benefit of a faucet in the $500 range versus one in the $150 range? I'm looking at Widespread 3-hole Faucets. Is moving these faucet hookups 3 inches doable?
I derped and bought a new bathroom vanity without checking that it would actually work for the faucet hookups in my bathroom. As you can hopefully see from the photo, I cannot move the vanity any farther to the right, and the pipe on the right is not aligned with the hole in the back of the vanity intended for it. I also cannot really drill a hole into the back of the vanity because there are drawers in there that extend pretty much to the back, so there is no room for a pipe anyway. I could of course return the vanity and get one with an opening for pipes right in the center or without the drawers, but I actually would really like to make the side drawer style work if possible, and most of the other vanities I would be interested in of this style would have the same issue. So I’m wondering how feasible it would be for me to simply move these pipes like 3 inches to the left so they fit into the existing hole in the back of the vanity. I suspect paying someone to do it will cost me almost as much as the vanity itself, so I’d love to take a stab at it myself if it’s at all feasible. Is this a terrible idea? New bathroom sink faucet leaking
Hello, I cannot figure out why my new faucet head is leaking from below. I’m leaning towards the tube possibly having a leak hole. Is there a way to detect that? The head just has a tube shooting down that connects to a 3 way quick connector. When I turn on the water it’s leaking down from underneath the faucet head. I took the head out thinking I missed a step but the tube just goes directly up into the faucet head without assembly needed. The only assembly was connecting it to the three way connector and it’s not leaking around that connection area. I have 0 plumbing experience so I’ve been relying on YouTube. My apologies if I’m missing critical info but happy to provide more. My Landlord Learns The Importance of Keeping Your Word - and I Learn Not To Renovate a Rental Condo.
I became a renter for the first time in my mid 30's, pretty late in life. Before that, I'd been on the other side of things. I'm a landlord and developer, which I realize doesn't endear me to most readers, but in my partial defence, I've built everything that I own, and with my own hands for the first few years. I started doing painting, finishing carpentry/millwork/cabinetmaking to make money during university, and when I graduated I had saved up enough to get horribly into debt at an extremely high interest rate which I had to build my way out of. The first place I lived in after the dorm was a dangerously neglected warehouse that I had just bought, and ended up reconstructing into a fourplex - I lived there for the next 10 years while subsequently getting into new greenfield rental developments. Just before COVID I ended up selling that first place I had built, and the buyer wanted me out so they could raise the rent to market. This was to be my first time getting "evicted," but the pain was numbed by the sale price during that huge market runup. I also thought it might be tricky to navigate being a tenant in a building that I had built and owned for years. I decided to treat myself by renting a condo downtown - a huge step up from my previous 1 bedroom that was chosen for its ROI rather than owner-occupancy appeal. I spent around 3 months looking at dozens of places and built up a good sense of the rental market as my pride insisted I get the best deal possible. I quickly learned that the market that had been so favourable to me The Landlord was extremely difficult for me The Tenant. I got incredibly lucky when I took a chance and viewed a condo on craigslist that had no photos in the listing, never a good sign. It turned out the lack of photos was not an attempt to cover up, but simply the inability of the owner to work a digital camera (he did not have a smartphone.) It was perfect - 2005ish building, floor to ceiling glass, high floor with 270 degree views, A/C, open layout, well priced. The only problem? Very worn out, shabby 2005ish kitchen and bathroom, and the reddest looking cherry wood flooring you could imagine. Horrible cheap honey coloured fake wood veneer cabinets, gloss black appliances. Brushed aluminum finish everywhere, lots of frosted glass on the light fixtures. A simpler time. The landlord seemed like he would be pretty hands-off, and my application pitch was that if he was okay with it, I would take care of maintenance myself and just e-transfer him rent every month and not bother him. He loved the sound of that. He said he had bought a house in the suburbs and wanted to keep this condo for rental income for about 10 years until he retired - there are pretty strong tenant rights where I live, so long as he didn't sell there were no "no fault" eviction options. We signed the tenancy agreement, paid the deposit and moved in. The last time I saw him was during the move-in inspection, after which he exclaimed “If you treat this place well, I promise you can stay here as long as you want!” Big, firm, job-interview winning boomer handshake, and he was gone. We loved the new place – a complete change from the “up and coming” part of town we had just left, 400 feet above the street. The absolutely horrible kitchen, bathrooms and floors haunted me, but I had a plan and it was only a matter of time. One of my carpentry/millwork subs did a lot of retail tenant improvement as well as... model homes and apartments for much bigger developers. When you are building a 30 story highrise, you typically spend a few hundred grand to several million mocking up a unit in a retail showroom somewhere offsite to help you collect deposits. After the building sells out? That stuff gets either junked or sold on craigslist. When I was doing single digit unit buildings, I had bought a number of new old stock appliances, cabinets, flooring etc out of a marketing manager's garage for cash... A few months later and it's the summer of 2020 and COVID is in full swing, and my carpenter emails me - one of his clients is cancelling their project, and since they are ghosting him on his draw, he is taking down their display unit. The drawings show an almost exact match to my unit in terms of dimensions. The spec sheet is jaw-dropping: almost 20' of Snaidero cabinets, gloss white with champagne bronze hardware, Sub Zero/Wolf appliance package, white marble counters and back splash, Kallista faucets... easily $100,000+ retail not including install. Oh, and 1200 square feet of herringbone light oak planks if I don't mind pulling them up myself. How much does he want? $10k cash. Well, my jobsite is shut down for the foreseeable future, the government is making 75% of my payroll and I don't have anything to do except stare at my awful kitchen all day. After about 3 hours with my measuring tape and pencil, I ask my carpenter if he is willing to join my bubble for $40/hr cash for a few weekends. He is. One last step - email my landlord and ask if he doesn't mind me doing a complete renovation on his condo. Crucially, I conclude the offer with "I'll undertake to return it to move-in condition before I leave." Not surprisingly, he accepts. "That's okay, do whatever you want, we love having you as a tenant." Time to go to work. I get the old kitchen out in about 2 days, hampered by my need to work quietly as I'm doing this without permits (not like they are doing inspections anyways, but still..). A side effect of this slow pace (and my wife's current obsession with Marie Kondo) is that everything is removed intact, and carefully taped and labelled. Taking out the old kitchen does indeed spark joy. The old floating cherry wood floor comes up in a morning, also tagged and labelled and bundled in the order it was removed. The carpenter comes over, and he gets the "new" kitchen installed in less than 2 days while I lay down the floor. The floor actually ended up taking me a week, mainly because I had to make the end cuts at my storage unit across town, since I definitely couldn't run a mitre saw with everyone at home during lockdown. After just under 2 weeks, I had effectively a brand new, ultra high end condo for just under $12,000 out of pocket. At this point I'm sure everyone reading this is facepalming as they wonder why on earth I'm proud of renovating someone else's condo at my cost - it did make sense at the time, as I was under the impression I'd be there for a good 10 years - plus the fact I was paying about $500/month under market at move-in, and more like $1500/month under market in the current condition. There are a variety of economic and market conditions and segments where it makes more financial sense to rent than it does to buy. For example, my monthly rent would not have even covered the interest portion of a mortgage, let alone condo fees, insurance, taxes and the opportunity cost of the downpayment. In other words, it was cheaper to rent the condo than it was to rent the money that I would need to buy the condo. Also, as a builder, cash is a critical tool, and the more cash I can hold onto, the bigger I can build. With my 1 year lease, and the fact I had lots of free time, it didn't seem like such a reckless move. And who can say no to a $2000 kitchen faucet. Filling a glass of water feels like working the bolt on a well-oiled Holland & Holland rifle. Worst case I could probably get most of it back by selling just the appliances if something unexpected happened. Which it did. I had undertaken all this after evaluating all the possibilities and weighing the risk of putting time and money into a place I don't own. I had failed to consider one important detail - the wife. By the spring of 2023 the upgrades had, in my opinion, paid for themselves after nearly 36 months of use. I hadn't seen the landlord since I moved in and he hadn't been in touch since approving my renovation except for the monthly confirmation he'd accepted my rent transfer - so naturally I began to get concerned when by the end of the first week of May, he hadn't deposited my rent. Two emails went unanswered, until there was a knock on the door. I opened up and was hit with a wall of flowery perfume, which perfectly matched the wall of floral print and red heels standing in my doorway. The landlord had contracted COVID (in 2023!) and sent his wife to collect the rent. I get out my phone to cancel the transfer and go into my office to look for my chequebook. I come back to find her (still in her heels!!) standing in the middle of the living room spinning like a technicolour top. "Oh wow, this looks fabulous! I heard you were doing some renos but I never thought it would look like this! Is that a Sub ZERO fridge?" She opens the fridge. My fridge. "I looove the floors.. and are these custom cabinets?" She turns the kitchen faucet on and off probably 6 times. It took days to air out the smell of perfume after she left. Several hours later my wife came home, and given the lingering smell in the apartment, I'd already briefed her on who had stopped by. “Fuck. I can tell by the smell she's seeing dollar signs.” Sure enough, 3 weeks later I get a call from a realtor who wants to schedule the photographer to take listing photos as the landlords are selling. Of course the landlord, who has now recovered from his COVID, will not take my calls and won't respond to my emails. I'm upset that he doesn't have the courage to admit what he is doing, my wife is upset because she doesn't want to move, and I'm feeling embarrassed that I trusted this guy... I'm not really losing much since we've lived there for 3 years and paid tens of thousands less than market rent during that time... but it still stings. Even in the slow market the place sells in 3 weeks and yes, the new owners want to move in. They give me the required 3 month's notice and pay the 1 month rent compensation. I note that the listing has advertised “Exquisitely renovated with top of the line appliances, cabinets and built-ins. No expense spared.” My first instinct was to at least contact the realtor and suggest he check with the landlord about what was included with the apartment, and what was being represented, but the description in the listing infuriated my wife to such an extent that we agreed to let them do their own due diligence. I think you can all guess where this is going. This time it only took 3 days to pull the "new" kitchen out and put the "old" kitchen back in. Same with the floors - turns out you can lay 1000 square feet of flooring in about 2 hours if it's all pre-cut and labelled. But, some of the T&G was a bit loose so I made sure to glue that bitch down to the concrete nice and tight to make sure it doesn't creak or pop. It's exceptionally cheap so it's going to splinter and separate if it ever needs to come back up... The old Home Depot Glacier Bay $49 kitchen faucet unfortunately started leaking when I put it back in, so I treated the new owners to a brand new replacement (now $60). The new one leaked as well, but not much, and only when it was on. I re-watched the move-in inspection video to refresh my memory and made sure everything was exactly as it was when I moved in, right down to a few small holes in the drywall - I had also forgotten that the old oven control board was fried which meant it kept shutting off every 10 minutes. My wife and I debated leaving a wireless camera up on the wall to capture the new owner's delight at how faithfully we upheld our tenancy agreement as unfortunately we moved out about a week before their planned move in date but there was/is (still?) a reasonable chance of getting sued so we opted not to, as intent is half the battle. I don't actually know what happened since I've ignored the dozens of phone calls from the landlord and the new owners, and just sent them a registered letter with my tenancy agreement, move-in inspection video on DVD and a copy of the email exchange with the landlord from 2020 where he allowed me to renovate the condo provided I put everything back the way it was when I moved in. I did get a text from the realtor calling me a petty, vindictive asshole and that I'm lucky I'm not getting sued (implying that my landlord probably IS getting sued, and furthermore, one or all of them has looked into suing me and were advised against it.) The concierge recently told me that nobody has moved into the condo yet which presents another intoxicating possibility - because the new owners evicted us for their personal use, according to the tenancy law, if they fail to move in within 6 months they owe me a full year's rent as compensation for a fraudulent eviction. I still haven't bought a place, I ended up unfortunately having to pay a fair bit more in rent to move upstairs in the same building, with a different layout but thankfully much nicer finishings. The total cost of being a new homeowner - 2 years' worth of expenses
My husband and I bought our first home in August of 2020. We moved from southern California, where we had been renting a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment. Our total ~monthly bills (read: average) at that apartment were: Rent: $1645 Internet (we had no options, we had to use the one carrier they provided): $85 Utilities: $80 Gas: $20 Electric: $150 Total: $1980 Edit: At someone's suggestion, I went back and my old apartment is renting for $2,550 right now**.** In September of 2019, we moved to Utah. We moved into my husband’s parents basement, where we paid them a minimal amount of rent and then aggressively padded our savings (32K at the time) to save for a 20% down payment while we house hunted. We started looking at homes in February of 2020, and we toured over 30 homes before putting an offer on ours (we had had an offer accepted on a home prior to this, but that one fell through when the sellers promised to replace the roof before closing and then didn’t). We bought our house (5 bedroom/2ba, split level) in August of 2020, with a move-in date at the end of August. The house was priced at $310,000. We offered 315K. The appraisal came in at 313K, so the price was dropped to that. We paid $63,000 as our down payment on the home (20%), leaving us with $5000 to do some renovations and $10,000 of an e-fund. Just to cut to the short of it and for the sake of comparison, here are the current ~monthly (read: average) bills: Mortgage payment (including insurance and stuff): $1266 Internet: $50 Utilities: $100 Gas: $50 Electric: $150 Total: $1616 I will say that we now also put $300 into a “home improvement” savings, to cover things like roof/AC/furnace/etc. type of stuff. With that factored in, the total would be $1916. We spent a solid week before moving in going in a doing some renovations – we repainted the whole house, we knocked out a wall separating the living room and the kitchen, and we removed a closet in one of the downstairs bedrooms. Then we moved in in September of 2020! So it’s now been about two years of us living here. Here are all of the expenses we’ve had, since I often see posts/comments/questions about what kind of expenses come up when you’re a homeowner. A disclaimer\ that when we moved here 3 years ago, my husband started learning how to do handy work. 18 or so months ago, he got a job as a warranty specialist, so now he does a lot of handy work for a living. That also means that he tends to have a lot of tools that not everyone would have lying around. This is all relatively new, though – within the last 3 years. I’ve also learned how to do a lot of handy stuff as well! Unless noted otherwise below, all labor was done by us.* \I added this disclaimer, so if you want to be like "well not EVERYONE can do XYZ," you can rest easy. I know. That's why I put it in here.* I’m pretty frugal by nature, and I track every penny that we spend on a budgeting spreadsheet. So I happen to have all of our expenses saved in a handy dandy excel dating back for the last like 8 years. Here are all the ones related to our home since we have bought it. I have bolded ones I believe to be necessities, as most of these are just things we really wanted to do. August 2020: $1,132: Repainted the house. This includes all of the paint and rollers. We painted the house ourselves, going over every night after our kids went to bed and painting for like 5+ hours for a solid week. The house when we purchased it had seafoam green, blood red, baby pink, baby blue, and checkerboard walls. They had let the kids pick out colors and let the kids paint. Sooo this was necessary for us. I bolded it because I truly believe anyone would have found it to be necessary. $289: removed a wall between the kitchen and the living room, opening up the upstairs, and removed a closet from a downstairs bedroom. We demo’d everything ourselves and then patched with drywall and mud and repainted. We left spots in the flooring that we covered with patches of carpet we found in the shed, because we were planning to redo all the floors eventually. So we had some random carpeted spots in the floor for a while where those walls used to be lol $507: Fridge. Moved all our stuff in and realized our fridge didn’t fit through the front door. So I sold our fridge for $800, and we went to a used appliance store (where we got the fridge we just sold) and spent $507 on a different fridge. Technically, this was actually a positive $$ for us, but I’m including it anyway. $416: new router. There already was one, but I wanted a really good one. The internet we have is fiber utopia, which is apparently super good. With me working from home a lot, I wanted a good router. So we invested in this super nice hawk something or other. It’s been really great. $424: new bed frame, we had been wanting a new one for a long time but decided to wait until we bought a house to make the plunge. $52: our house came with a hot tub that had no water in it, so my husband researched how to balance the whatever and got some product to refill the hot tub $0: lawnmower. We got one from a buy nothing group. $300: got a used washer and dryer off FB marketplace. They’re super nice. $30: Got a free new BBQ off fb buy nothing group, and got a propane tank to put in it. November 2020: $1016: we have a big backyard, and we also have two little kids and two dogs. I wanted a dog run type deal, so my husband got poles and fencing stuff and cement and, with the help of youtube, put up a fence with a gate to block off the dogs from going into the larger area of the yard when we’re not back there. We also got a bunch of wood to block off under the deck, so that we can store bikes and things under the deck with less weather damage. $50: dryer stopped working. I YouTube’d it and took the whole thing apart and spent $50 on a reader that let me know if the heating element wasn’t working, only to find out that a small piece had come unplugged inside the dryer behind the barrel lol so I didn’t even need to spend the $50 but here we are. January 2021: $126: we needed specific clasps for the fence gate, so we finally got them and completed the fence in January. February 2021: $682: new dishwasher. One Sunday morning, our dishwasher randomly stopped working. It was suuuuuper old. Normally, I’d be of the mind to get one at a used appliance store, but I was not in the mood this day and we had the budget so my husband went to buy a new one. March 2021: $75: our backyard slider didn’t have a screen door and it was annoying. So we got one and installed it. April 2021: Some BIG renovations incoming! $285: we got a fake fireplace entertainment unit for our TV $367: we got a murphy bar to hang in our kitchen $225: we replaced the blinds in the kitchen window and also got a new blind for our slider since it didn’t have one $0: we replaced all the blinds in the house with cordless ones, there was a blind company running a promo for households with kids under the age of 6 to get one free cordless blind. All our local friends with kids didn’t want only one blind so I asked if I could have theirs, and with that we were able to replace the blinds in all 6 of the windows in our house that had old ones $5207: we recarpeted 4/5 bedrooms in the house. We removed all of the flooring ourselves and took it to the dump ourselves, they charged $2/sq ft for removal so we just figured we would do that. This covered materials and installation for all the carpet, the laminate, and the damn stairs. The stairs cost almost as much as all the carpet combined. We did laminate throughout the house outside of the bedrooms. We went to flooring liquidator for all the flooring, and picked a laminate that had been discontinued. $4080: we redid our kitchen. We completely gutted it (again, demoing ourselves to save on $$) and restructured the room. Because we had removed the wall when we moved in, we had more room to work with and got to put an island in! This was the cost + installation of the cabinetry. We got a 5% discount for being a referral. $2085: the cost + installation of the marble countertops $152: the sink $234: above-range microwave, which we had to install ourselves and was quite a bitch to do. (I am marking this as a necessity because the microwave that came with the house NEEDED to be replaced). $170: kitchen faucet $474: the other odds & ends that came with demo-ing the whole kitchen and all of the flooring in the house, as well as dumping all the materials $300: after the flooring was installed, we redid all the baseboard and casing (having ripped it off during demo). We got the baseboard from the flooring liquidator and then painted and installed it ourselves May 2021: $300: we had to get an extra case of flooring to finish the landing where our split stairs meet. $382: we replaced our front door $101: we replaced the casing on all of our doors when we did baseboards, but some doors needed specifically small casing. $538: an accumulation of other hardware store costs, including paint and brushes for the casing, caulk, film for the front door window, etc. September 2021: $500: we removed all of the shrubbery from in front of our house, leveled the dirt, and then covered it with white marble rock. $616: we removed the ugly brown stair banister in our house and then replaced it with a half-wall. October 2021: $4448: we replaced our furnace, since it was super old. It was due. November 2021: $216: we started a subscription with a company who comes out annually to do routine maintenance on the furnace, water cooler, AC unit, and the air ducts. This is the annual cost. $65: we got a trampoline off FB marketplace for the backyard April 2022: $1447: we replaced 11 internal doors inside the house. We purchased the doors and then painted them, cut doorknob holes and hung them ourselves. This cost includes the doors and the paint and the new knobs. September 2022: $3500: new roof. Our roof was 22 years old, so it was time. There was an interesting loophole that allowed us to get the room on the cheap – the base cost of the roof ($7100) was given to our homeowners insurance. We paid for the upgrades – which was choosing the better shingles and adding a ridge vent. Because we had a windstorm knock off some shingles, we were able to process a claim to our insurance. Insurance was going to cover replacement of the shingles, but the shingles were discontinued, so they had to replace the whole roof. The roofing company duked it out with the insurance company, so we didn’t really manage any of that. $450: we removed all the red tanbark that lined the edge of our property, leveled the dirt, and covered it with the same white marble chips we did the front of the house with October 2022-November 2022: $5042: we are currently in the process of redoing both bathrooms. This is the cost so far of the downstairs bathroom. This cost includes demo (we removed a small wall with built-in shelving to expand the room), vanity, toilet, tiling, bathtub+walls, paint, baseboard and casing, faucet, and electrical reworking. The bathroom is 90% done, only thing left to do is get a mirror and hang it up! Then we will work on the upstairs bathroom. So, more to come! Total of all of the above: $35,601 Total of necessary costs: $9,937 (Dividing this up over the 25 months we have lived here comes out to $397/month, so a little more than we are currently saving for the big necessary purchases) That (necessities) comes out to about $4,769/year: 1.5% of the house's original purchase price. Upcoming: $600: Water heater replacement: we plan to replace this once the downstairs bathroom is done. This is the cost of the heater itself, we will be replacing it. ~$5000: redoing the upstairs bathroom. We will be hiring someone to rough-install the walk-in shower because of the marbling around the window - my husband wants nothing to do with it lol ~$??? we have a messed up chunk of driveway we ultimately want to fix As of today, the house is worth $439K on Redfin (a $126K increase), not accounting for any of the renovations we have done. We did get a blind offer of about 430K several months ago from someone who I think was just trying to buy a home in the area. I think it is worth noting that I absolutely fucking love living in a house and being a homeowner. We have a big backyard and live on a nice street where our kids can ride bikes up and down while we chill in the driveway, we don't have to worry about noisy neighbors or landlords or anything. When something breaks we can just fix it without waiting for maintenance. We can change what the house looks like, paint, decorate, etc. I really really enjoy it. I moved like 22 times before we bought this house. I hope we can be here a long time! So there you have it! We got quotes from several places and ended up going with the one we got recommended from a friend and picked cabinets that were on sale. We demo'd the kitchen and took down all the cabinets/counters/flooring/etc. ourselves and disposed of it before they came to install the other stuff, which saved $$. Our kitchen also isn't huge, and flooring for the kitchen is under the flooring cost because we did those things at the same thing. I have the invoice for the cabinets + install (and also the counters, the floors, etc) but hopefully this will be enough to get people off my back about it haha. This happened about 15 minutes ago. NSFW because sex. Background: Husband and I have been trying to get pregnant. Our sex life has always been pretty great, but the added motivation recently has made things extra steamy and fun! Unfortunately the repeated back-to-back creampies have thrown the ecosystem of my hooha out of whack, and I was having some discomfort down there. I've had luck in the past using boric acid vaginal suppositories. You're supposed to pop them in your vagine before bed and, after 1-3 days of use, be rewarded with a fresh, itch-free, pH-balanced cooch. I ordered some, they arrived today. There are warnings all over the packaging: DO NOT TAKE ORALLY. FOR VAGINAL USE ONLY. KEEP THESE AWAY FROM YOUR MOUTH YA DINGUS. So I was just getting ready for bed and decided to put one in. Prepped by putting a panty liner in my undies. Then I grabbed a pill from the bottle. They're just clear capsules filled with white powder. They look like many oral medications I've taken in the past. And for some fucking reason my brain was like, "Oh a pill, I know what we do with these." So with my underwear around my ankles, I popped the pill in my face mouth, took a big drink from the faucet, and swallowed. I stood there for a second like, "wait..." but pretty much immediately realized what a stupid thing I'd done. I grabbed my toothbrush and stuck the handle down my throat. Vomited twice, but didn't see a pill. Then I found the poison control number on the bottle, hesitated, consulted the internet which said "dude, get medical help NOW," then I cursed a whole bunch. Now that I was sufficiently convinced I was probably going to die and had made enough noise that my husband was concerned and knocking on the bathroom door, I went ahead and called poison control. A very nice woman told me that usually nothing happens, that I should drink some milk or water to dilute it, and I'd probably be fine aside from maybe an upset stomach. So far the only symptom I've had is an intense feeling of stupidity. TL;DR: Spaced out while trying to use a vaginal suppository and ended up swallowing it.
