Some asshat returned a bathroom faucet after replacing the part with their old one
Updatedit: the return cashier gave us attitude and even "joked" that I did the swap. Even told me I should've returned the item at the original store I purchased it from. Wtf. I purchased 2 Moen bathroom faucet on sale a week ago to replace my old one. The first install went really well. But the second, sealed box was actually stuffed with an old faucet - someone returned their old faucet as unused new in box product. Now I am have a faucet I can't use (took out the pipes) and an hour to waste in the return line tomorrow. People are the worst. submitted by /u/TJSounan to r/CostcoCanada [link] [comments]

I remodelled my girlfriend's bathroom because of failed waterproofing
(EDIT: please excuse some of the weird AI blurriness around the bottom edges of some pics: I shot these with a super wide 10mm lens with terrible sensor crop/vignetting, and I used photoshops refill feature to try clean up the corners, but I just realised it's left some ugly AI-looking funkiness on the very corners) (2nd EDIT: the hole in the ceiling above the shower is for a skylight, I'll install that and finish off the plastering once my partner's bank account recovers from the bathtub purchase. My Girlfriend recently bought her first home; A mid-2000s developer build in Pascoe Vale. Unfortunately, as expected of these kinds of builds in Australia; there was significant water damage due to failed waterproofing in the upstairs shower. This was, however, a good excuse to redo the bathroom for her and get rid of the grey floor tiles, grey wall tiles, grey vanity, and all other depressing mid-2000s developer-build stylings. She also wanted a bathtub, and a frameless shower. The existing bathroom wasn't big enough to achieve this, so I moved some walls and claimed space from an adjoining linen closet for the shower recess. I also had to do some tricky stuff with raising and lowering parts of the floor (difficult because of the truss beam system) to create the appropriate drop for the screed, to accommodate the threshold-less shower. (I did like 6 coats of waterproofing, above and below screed, used the most expensive bond-breaker tape I could source etc. because I did NOT want this bathroom to leak again!). She wanted a timber vanity. We discovered nice timber vanities are insanely expensive. So I built the vanity myself out of some cheap tassie-oak panels from Bunnings. I was very happy with how well that came up. My friends Milwaukee tracksaw made that very easy to do. I also dropped the ceiling by 45mm to create a recessed led "halo" light as the main lighting, which turned out really nice. My partner wanted a clear bathtub because she's a pervert (I'm currently refusing to bath in it for fear of being ogled and objectified). Oh; she would also like it known that she bought this bathtub BEFORE it was featured on The Block. She was not happy when it appeared on the block. (I think she wanted to order her tub, then the supply company go out of business, so she was the only person in Australia to have a clear resin bathtub). It looks fabulous, but it was monstrously difficult to silicone in place due to the caustic effect of the clear resin visually magnifying and emphasising the silicone bead from every angle inside and outside (And also I am not very good at siliconing). The total cost of this renovation was about $12k I think. It took me about 3 months, after work each day and on weekends. (although the amount of tiling here almost killed me). The main costs was the bathtub ($5k), and the bath faucet at ($1.1k), and my mental sanity & hairline (priceless). submitted by /u/khdownes to r/AusRenovation [link] [comments]

As a European the US shocked me (in the most positve way)
Disclaimer: I only went to the West Coast. Since I was a child I have loved the US, especially because of space exploration and aviation in general. Im also big into cars (especially muscle cars) and guns, which always made it feel like the best country for my interest. On the other side the US isnt very popular in Western Europe. Speaking from an Austrian perspective, the image isnt the best, to put it nicely. So I always had a bit of prejudice, even though I was one of the few who actually liked the US, having now traveled there, I can say the following: I rented a car to visit not just the tourist spots but also the countryside. I went to Seattle, Forks, Olympia, Portland, Eureka, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Jose, Coos Bay, Ruby Beach, Humboldt Redwoods State Park, Mount Rainier National Park, Olympic National Park, Mount St Helens, the Museum of Flight in Seattle, the Evergreen Aviation Museum, and Vandenberg Space Force Base, plus many smaller cities. To be honest, many things surprised me in a very positive way. The roads were much better than I expected. Even though I always read online, I think (LA traffic aside), people generally drive better than in Europe, which shocked me. Road markings are clearer, to. Also, i kinda expected only pickups and bigger cars, but most cars I saw were Hondas, Toyotas, and Nissans. Of course, there are rough areas and nicer ones. The contrast between visible suffering (especially related to drugs) and world class technological achievement is striking. The US has huge potential and its not an accident its a superpower. And the nature is second to none maybe only Switzerland or Norway come close for me in Europe. I really enjoyed the trip and will definitely be back. The US, with all its flaws, is a great country. Also, people were extremely friendly to me as an average European not just in customer service. Only things i disliked are, applebees, your bathroom faucets and your flimsy outlet plug, the Schuko in Austria/Germany is much harder in place, it almost feels like you rip out the whole outlet trying to unplug which maybe isn't a good thing either :D, submitted by /u/Top7DASLAMA to r/roadtrip [link] [comments]

New roommate wants the 4 br to herself.
Just moved into a new place. She would rather have it to herself I (22F) just moved into a 4 br apartment in Brooklyn. I found this place on June homes and I am here for a little over 3 months. Upon my arrival to this apartment, my roommate, S (27F), looked absolutely shocked to see me walk in. I politely tell her that I am one of her new roommates. “Oh did they not tell you? They give me the option to approve or deny roommates and I sent them an email saying I didn’t want to live with you.” Ok, strange first interaction with someone. I then told her that they had already taken my money and therefore I will be living here. All is ok and I don’t see her until the following day. I was moving the rest of my stuff in and we were discussing our habits. She likes to have her own things and I told her that was absolutely fine. I had my own plates and cookware as I have a food allergy. I then go to throw something away and she tells me that I cannot use her kitchen garbage can. I explain to her that I would not mind taking the trash out if it meant that I didn’t have to go out and purchase another garbage can. She agrees. Mind you, her belongings take up the majority of our shared living space (empty boxes, bins, and clothing). It is to the point where it is blocking the bedroom door of another tenant. S also has 2 cats— I believe they are registered ESA animals but I am unsure if both of them are. They have been in her room the entire time since I moved in (poor cats). Fast forward to yesterday. I am getting ready to leave for a friends birthday party and I need to shower and use the bathroom. I check at 8:30 and the shower is on. I then go and do my thing for about an hour and the shower is still on at 9:30. I knock on the door and S opens it. She is not showering but has the tub faucet on for some reason. Eventually she leaves and I am able to do my thing. But S had been using the bathroom for well over an hour, which rubbed me the wrong way. Fast forward to this morning. I was coming in from staying the night at my friends and I see my dishes on the counter. I assumed that she had ran the dishwasher while I was out and has left it out for me to put away. This was not the case. She went out of her way to empty everything that was not hers from the dishwasher and just washed her own dishes. She comes out of her room. And my dirty dishes had just been sitting on the counter overnight. “Did you take my things out of the dishwasher?” “Oh yes sorry I can empty my stuff out now” In this moment i then meet the person who is in the room next to me, N (~28M), and we discuss how she has been acting. Apparently when he had toured the place S was out there trying to convince him not to move in. The person giving the tour says that S does this frequently, and it seems as though she wants this 4 bedroom apartment to herself. Again, very weird and a bit antagonistic. 30 minutes go by and I see a note on the trash can. “I know I told you I was comfortable with you using my trash can but now I am not. Can you please buy yourself a new one.” This really set me off. She comes out and I ask her if she can move some of her belongings out of the shared space to make room for another trashcan. “I don’t have any space in my room” Not my problem I fear. I then explain to her that it is very weird to take someone’s dirty dishes out of the dishwasher without saying anything. And I questioned why she can only wash her things and not anyone else’s. I tell her that we can use the dishwasher pods I bought. “I can’t use that dish detergent it would ruin my plates” I just tell her that she needs to get rid of a few boxes so that there is space for others to have their belongings and we leave it at that. I purchase a new garbage can and bags and bring it inside. N is now in the shared space and says to S: “Would you be able to move your trashcan? If none of us are allowed to use it I don’t think it should be in the shared space” “I’m sorry I don’t have any space in my room” N goes on to tell her that it doesn’t make sense to have that out in the common area when nobody else can go near it. He ate with that I completely agree. And now I’m here trying to figure out what to do. I feel as though she acts this way to try to get people to move out. I plan on documenting everything and keeping it handy should this get further escalated. But otherwise I’m unsure if there’s anything I can do. Any advice would be appreciated. submitted by /u/Merlysauce to r/badroommates [link] [comments]

AITA for throwing a cup of cold water on my naked husband?
My husband has been tested for ADHD, but he doesn't have it. He has the kinds of problems that are associated with ADHD, however. He says writing lists, making a schedule, setting alarms, etc, is physically painful for him and he'd rather just deal with ocassional emergencies rather than be proactive. The specific problem; He often forgets to push the shower diverter valve down. You know, the little rod on the tub faucet that you push down to make water fill the tub, and pull up to make the water come out of the shower? For nearly twenty. fucking. years. I have been asking him to push that down. Since I was literally a teenager, I have been asking him to push that fucking thing down. At least twice a month I have a VERY unpleasant wakeup/cold shower, because I turn the water on, and I get a cold spray from the shower. And every fucking time he's apologetic, and then a week or two later, it happens again. He will do better for a while, and then it slips in again. He is always telling me that he's working on it, and hasn't he been better about it lately? But somehow he's always working on it, always improving, but it never fucking stops. Today I had just fucking had it. I stepped into the shower, turned it on, and had a very cold and rude awakening. I couldn't fucking take it anymore, I grabbed the cup by the sink and filled it about 3 inches with cold water, and walked out to where he was standing naked (he had just taken off his pajamas and was going to take his shower after mine.) Without warning, while he was looking down, I held that plastic cup firmly in my hand, and grasping it tightly, I jerked that motherfucker in a 45 degree angle to get that cold water all over his torso and face. I told him that his apologies were worth the paper they were written on, and I was tired of listening to him congragulate himself for "getting better" when I had been asking for twenty fucking years to stop doing this shit. I told him I don't accept his apologies, and the fact that it's an accident does not excuse it. I told him that from now on, every time I'm taking a cold shower, so is he. That I refuse to be a second class citizen in my own home any longer, and if he refuses to make changes to treat me better, I will instead make changes to treat him worse, because I will not tolerate this any longer. I'm going to continue to surprise throw a cold cup of water on him every time I get a surprise cold shower. I'm tired of fucking *asking/begging for basic fucking respect and not getting it, with the implication that I have to fucking put up with this forever. So reddit, I know I'm probably an asshole... but am I a justified asshole? *Edited to add the forgotten words asking/begging *Edit to answer the questions everyone is asking; Q: Why don't I just check myself/why do I expect him to leave it the way I want it left? A:I don't expect him to leave it the way I want; what I expect is for him to leave things the way he found them. When he walks into the bathroom, it's pushed down. That's how I leave it. So he doesn't get blasted with cold water. But he doesn't leave things the way he found them. Instead, he often leaves the last 10 or 20 percent of a task for me to clean up for him. Q: Why don't I leave it the way I found it? Why don't you leave it up if he leaves it up? A: If I left things the way I found them, I would live in a sty. I would also spend a great deal of energy making things messier, as I would literally be cleaning up to make space for myself, and then UNDOING that work to put things back as a mess. Q: Explain your shower to me / why are you getting in before the water is warm?! A: Just gonna quote /u/Ciskakid : Folks, you’re misunderstanding her situation. She leans in to turn on the water EXPECTING IT TO COME OUT OF THE SPIGOT. Instead, shower mode is still in place and the water sprays out of the shower and onto her head. It is completely rude of the husband to not switch the water flow back to the spigot when he’s finished showering. This is just basic etiquette. submitted by /u/ColorStorms to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

Faucet filters
Do any of you use a bathroom faucet filter to filter out many of the nasty chemicals found in tap water? I wash my face in the bathroom sink at night and I’ve thought about buying one to see if it helps my skin improve, but I wondered if they actually help. If you do, what brand do you use? submitted by /u/plantladyprose to r/Rosacea [link] [comments]

Bathroom faucet replacement cost and DIY?

What is your favorite brand of bathroom faucet?
I’m not the handiest guy but I typically don’t have any problems fixing a leaky faucet. Today I battled with this fucking Pfister handle for hours because the inside was so corroded it wouldn’t unscrew. The fixture is about 7 years old. It’s fixed now but I scratched it pretty bad. The wife wants to switch this pedestal sink out eventually anyway so I thought I’d ask here: What brand is the easiest to work on? submitted by /u/xdarnokx to r/Plumbing [link] [comments]

How to choose bathrooms faucet
I have Moen rubbed bronze faucets through out the house (7 sets) that are 10 years old. Two years ago I got sick and now have disability- so my wife went crazy cleaning the house repeatedly on high touch areas including these faucets - with Clorox- now I see them corroding and peeling. I think I have to replace them. Exact model is almost 170 dollars each- plus cost of installing given my disability I am afraid I can’t do them all on my own. I see in Amazon there are non Moen brands almost at 40 dollars. How much it is different in quality? Would It be worth investing in expensive one since labor also is expensive and cheaper replacements likely to break down. What’s the difference between a $100 bathroom faucet and a $1000 designer faucet? Is it worth it?
I’m looking to replace a leaky bathroom faucet and trying to decide between one at Home Depot for $100 vs a “fancy” one from restoration hardware or rejuvenation that costs over $1000. We live in a 110 year old craftsman and have splurged on most expensive finishes previously (light fixtures, mirrors, etc) to match the character of the house. I’m having a really hard time justifying spending 10x more on faucets. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions on other suppliers? submitted by /u/AHomerMD to r/HomeImprovement [link] [comments]
