When I started HGH, I also began berberine and low dose tirz to counter potential diabetogenic effects of the HGH. Just keep an eye on fasting glucose, which you should be getting with regular bloodwork anyway. And HbA1C at least twice a year. If they both start creeping up, you should intervene.

Berberine is my GOAT supplement
So I’m 25M, I don’t have diabetes, and I’m not overweight at all, but I’ve struggled for a long time with gut issues and sugar cravings, most likely from some type of dysbiosis. About a year ago I started taking berberine HCL, 1,000mg a per day for about 2 months. After those 2 months, there were huge improvements in my digestion, mood, metabolism, and food intolerances. I was able to eat heavy meals without feeling overly sluggish afterwards, and I felt like I burned off the calories a lot easier. However, there were a bunch of other supplements I was taking on and off, so I never attributed these changes to the Berberine at the time. I stopped taking it regularly for about a year, and I noticed I kind of got reset back to square one. So I just started again, and within a few days I’m already noticing the improvements coming back. After doing some research, I found out that Berberine actually modulates the gut microbiome directly, and shifts bacterial composition. Something a lot of prebiotics and probiotics fail to do. Also, kind of an interesting anecdote, but I’ve noticed it works better when I chew the capsules. And yes, it tastes horribly bitter and disgusting lol. submitted by /u/Strange_Long69 to r/Supplements [link] [comments]

Friend with LDL 176 — looking for evidence-based supplements (berberine, bergamot, psyllium, RYR?) before statins
Hey everyone, Posting for someone I know who’s trying to lower their cholesterol naturally before considering statins. Current labs: - Total cholesterol: 243 - LDL: 176 - HDL: 46 - Triglycerides: 105 Lifestyle is already in place (cleaner diet, gym ~4x/week, daily omega-3), but LDL remains high. We’re now looking specifically into evidence-based supplements and would appreciate real-world input on: - Psyllium / soluble fiber (effective dosing, timing?) - Bergamot extract (any noticeable LDL/HDL changes?) - Red yeast rice (results vs side effects?) - Berberine or other options worth considering? Goal is to understand what actually moves LDL in practice, not just theory. Would really appreciate insights from anyone who has tested labs before/after or has experience with similar numbers. Thanks in advance. submitted by /u/relaxncoffee to r/Supplements [link] [comments]

The amount of people asking about berberine as a "natural GLP-1" is wild, has anyone actually stuck with it long term?
Ever since GLP-1 drugs blew up, berberine has been getting called "nature's Ozempic" all over social media. I get why, it's cheap, accessible, and some of the blood sugar/metabolic research on it is actually pretty solid. I tried it for about 6 weeks a while back. Noticed some mild appetite reduction but the GI side effects were rough the first couple weeks. Eventually tapered off but I didn't stick with it long enough to really judge. Now I'm seeing it everywhere again and wondering, has anyone here used it consistently for 3+ months? Did the effects hold up or does it kind of fizzle out? And do you think the GLP-1 comparison is legit or just hype? submitted by /u/Informal-Bag9794 to r/Supplements [link] [comments]

Berberine significantly increases lifespan. Berberine is the natural form of the anti-aging drug Metformin. It lowers fasting glucose, activates AMPK, improves mitochondria and reduces inflammation. Here is scientific evidence and tips.
Berberine is one of the most exciting natural compounds we have today for healthy aging. As an anti-aging scientist, I look for things that do not just sound good in theory, but actually improve the biological systems that control how fast we age. Berberine stands out because it consistently improves metabolic health. And metabolic health is tightly connected with how long and how well we live. Many people are surprised to learn that berberine works in ways very similar to the well-known anti-aging drug metformin. In fact, berberine is often described as the natural cousin of metformin because both activate the same key energy pathway in the cell called AMPK. This pathway is also turned on by exercise and calorie restriction, two of the most proven longevity interventions we know. When you activate AMPK, you are essentially telling your cells to become more efficient, more resilient, and more metabolically young. One of the strongest human findings is berberine’s ability to lower fasting glucose. Elevated blood sugar is not just a diabetes issue. It quietly damages blood vessels, nerves, and tissues for years before disease appears. Clinical studies show berberine can significantly reduce fasting glucose and HbA1c, in some cases reaching effects comparable to metformin in people with type 2 diabetes. That is powerful, because better glucose control strongly predicts longer healthspan. Berberine also improves insulin sensitivity, which is critical for slowing metabolic aging. Chronic high insulin levels push the body toward fat storage, inflammation, and cellular stress. By lowering fasting insulin and improving HOMA-IR, berberine helps restore metabolic flexibility. People who remain insulin sensitive as they age tend to avoid many of the diseases that shorten lifespan, including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and fatty liver. Another major benefit is its effect on lipids. Berberine has been shown to reduce triglycerides and modestly lower LDL cholesterol, while also helping reduce fat accumulation in the liver. Cardiometabolic health remains one of the strongest predictors of survival in modern populations. When you improve glucose, insulin, and lipids at the same time, you are directly targeting the cluster of problems that drives much of age-related decline. At the cellular level, berberine creates a mild energetic stress in mitochondria by partially inhibiting complex I. This may sound negative, but in biology mild stress often triggers beneficial adaptation, a concept called hormesis. The cell responds by activating AMPK, improving mitochondrial efficiency, and increasing metabolic resilience. Over time, this kind of signaling environment is associated with slower biological aging. There is also growing evidence that berberine reduces chronic low-grade inflammation and interacts with the gut microbiome. Both of these areas are now recognized as important players in aging. By improving gut signaling and lowering inflammatory tone, berberine may help create an internal environment that supports long-term tissue health. While we still need multi-decade human lifespan trials, the mechanistic picture is very compelling. It improves the exact metabolic risk factors that most strongly predict shorter life. That makes it one of the most evidence-backed natural tools for supporting longevity biology today. For practical use, most studies show benefits in the range of about 900 to 1500 mg per day, usually split into two or three doses with meals. Taking it with food helps reduce stomach discomfort and improves post-meal glucose control. Consistency matters more than anything. Berberine works through steady metabolic pressure, not instant effects. I am Dr. Georgios Ioannou, an Anti-Aging Scientist, and my view is simple. Berberine is not magic, and it is not a replacement for exercise, sleep, or good nutrition. But for people with insulin resistance, prediabetes, metabolic syndrome, or elevated triglycerides, it can be a powerful metabolic ally. Used intelligently, alongside a strong lifestyle foundation, berberine may help push the body toward a more youthful metabolic state. And that is exactly where the fight against aging begins. submitted by /u/GarifalliaPapa to r/immortalists [link] [comments]

Berberine for the win
My A1C has been creeping up steadily for several years, up to 6.3 last year. My doctor has mentioned medication at the last two visits, but "won't insist", which I took to mean that he would insist next time. I've cut out sugar, cut way down on carbs, added protein and fiber to my diet, and exercise several times a week, but the number kept creeping up. I figured there's no harm in trying berberine, especially since it's on the shelf at walgreens next to the testing supplies. Within 2 weeks my fasting glucose went down and at the last checkup my a1c dropped to 5.0! This is not an ad for berberine but dang it seems to have made a huge difference. I'm going to keep the other changes obviously because the prediabetes is always lurking but if you want to try something easy and cheap, try berberine. submitted by /u/mama_yama to r/prediabetes [link] [comments]

I’m not overweight so don’t qualify for any of the jabs, but I’m genuinely considering berberine supplements as I see so many people say it helps them with their cravings. 25 years of insomnia — gone after “biofilm” washout + NAC/Berberine (1-year update)
Hey everyone, I wanted to share an experience because I spent years reading posts like this and honestly believed my sleep was just “broken” forever. I’ve had lifelong insomnia (about 25 years). Not just trouble falling asleep, but that constant feeling of never getting properly tired, light sleep, waking up a lot, and feeling wired at night or not sleeping at all. Then something happened that completely surprised me: Triple antibiotic therapy → I finally felt “normal tired” I had to do a triple antibiotic therapy for a separate issue. And for the first time in years, I felt naturally tired. I slept through the night like a baby and woke up feeling… normal. That lasted about 4 weeks, and then the insomnia came back — almost like my microbiome drifted back to its old baseline. That was my “wait a second” moment: Maybe my sleep issues are connected to my gut more than I ever realized. 2) Doctor visit focused on IBS + biofilm → “biofilm washout” After that I saw a doctor who was researching IBS and biofilm approaches. (This paper gives some context on the biofilm topic: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8527885/ ) He did a biofilm washout (not DIY, not advice — just what was done in my case, medically supervised). 3) After that: NAC + Berberine → no sleep issues for 1 year After the washout I started taking: • NAC • Berberine / other antimicrobials And since then: no more sleep issues. Not “slightly improved” — genuinely normal sleep, normal tiredness, sleeping through the night. It’s been 1 year now. From time to time I also eat L. reuteri yogurt (not daily, just occasionally). Anyone with similar experiences? Anyway, I am healed from insomnia . Maybe my experience helps someone . TL;DR: Sleep issues for ~25 years. Triple antibiotics briefly “fixed” it for ~4 weeks. Then a doctor-supervised biofilm washout + NAC/Berberine afterward → insomnia gone for 1 year. submitted by /u/Tzwen_ to r/insomnia [link] [comments]

Metformin and Berberine destroyed me
I've been struggling whether to post this, but reading other people’s stories here helped me more than any doctor ever did. So I wanted to share mine too. Five years ago, I was told I was “borderline.” A1C around 6.4. My doctor said the usual: watch it, manage it, we’ll keep an eye on it. I did what I was told. I started Metformin. And yeah.. my numbers looked better on paper. But I felt like shit. Absolute shit. But I always trusted what my Doctor said (not to blame him) and pushed through. Within weeks, my stomach was a mess. Diarrhea, cramps, urgency. I started mapping bathrooms everywhere I went. I couldn't trust a fart (this might sound funny but it was humiliating), I skipped events. I left early everywhere. When I complained, I was told to “push through it.” That the side effects would pass. They didn’t. Eventually I quit and tried Berberine because a lot of people online said it was the “natural alternative.” Same story. Same gut problems. Same embarrassment. And I am sorry for getting emotional but I just needed a place to let my feelings go. Doctors kept saying my condition was “controlled.” But I felt worse every year. More tired. More numbness in my feet. I don’t want to go into detail, but things progressed further than they should have before anyone really explained what was happening. By the time I actually understood the full picture, a lot of damage was already done. I’m not here to bash doctors. I don’t think they’re evil. I think the system is rigid, rushed, and focused on numbers instead of people. I also want to be very clear about something: I did change my lifestyle. Diet. Walking. Losing weight. All of that mattered. A lot. I don’t believe there’s a magic pill for this. Eventually, I did find an approach that works better for me now. I am very grateful for that.(Not gonna share anything here because I dont want to promote anything) But a lot of reddit threads here gave me hope when I really felt like shit. That's why I am posting this. Maybe we can motivate each other and help each other to push through these hard times. If you’re comfortable sharing, I’d love to hear your story. submitted by /u/ThickScholar7200 to r/prediabetes [link] [comments]

I tried berberine & I'm shocked - It turned off the food noise in my brain??
Did not expect this, but here we are. It’s been a week since I started taking berberine and I’m already down 2 lbs but honestly, the weight loss isn’t even the biggest deal. What’s blowing my mind is how quiet my brain is after I eat. Usually, food is all-consuming. I’ll finish a meal and immediately start thinking about seconds, snacks, dessert — you name it. The craving loop never shuts up. Now? I eat, I take the berberine, and then… nothing. Like, actually nothing. No urge to graze, no obsessive thoughts about what’s next. Just a weirdly normal feeling of “okay, I’m good.” I can stop after a normal portion, and I want to. That hasn't happened since before my binge eating started. This stuff has somehow flipped the switch that’s been stuck in the “hungry goblin mode” position for years. I know it’s early days and I don’t want to jinx it, but for the first time in a long time, I feel like I have a shot at being a normal eater. I’m sticking with it for now and just hoping the magic doesn’t wear off. **UPDATE for those asking I’m taking one capsule (600mg) at each meal with food. It also contains Ceylon cinnamon and bitter melon. The brand I use is ancient bliss and i got it off amazon submitted by /u/Responsible-Mind8037 to r/Supplements [link] [comments]

Berberine and obesity legit potential or just another supplement hype?
I came across this new research paper on arXiv that reviews berberine, a plant compound you see in a lot of herbal supplements, as a possible treatment for obesity. Whats interesting is that it’s not just the usual miracle supplement marketing the paper actually dives into mechanisms like improved insulin sensitivity, gut microbiome effects and metabolic regulation. At the same time it admits there are major hurdles, like poor bioavailability and mixed results in clinical studies. I looked into berberine before mainly because it kept popping up on wellness blogs, but its hard to tell what’s real and what’s hype. I am also using eureka health to help break down these kinds of studies so I dont get lost in the jargon but even then I’m left wondering are we still way too early to take this seriously or could it actually be a safer alternative/add on for metabolic issues down the line?Anyone ever tried berberine for weight, blood sugar or cholesterol? Did you actually notice a difference, or was it just expensive yellow powder? submitted by /u/Dramatic-Let-3174 to r/Biohackers [link] [comments]

i don’t think berberine or inositol are real treatments
i feel like this is problematic to say but i don’t think inositol or berberine work. i think everyone who’s on it and loses significant weight is probably just not insulin resistant (or not insulin resistant enough to cause major problems). i’ve only been recommended it by people who were already thin before taking it. i took both supplements and neither one worked. i gained weight on them despite dieting. i’ve never seen any concrete evidence that they work. i also don’t think a supplement you can get over the counter can reverse any damage to your organs. also, if it works so well, why don’t prediabetics/diabetics take it? i feel like it’s only targeted towards our community because women are more susceptible to the “crunchy/granola” shit and were used to being dismissed by doctors. it just seems like they’re targeting vulnerable people to make money. maybe i just have a more severe case than most so it didn’t work for me personally, but it’s so annoying to have this random supplement shoved down my throat constantly by the community. submitted by /u/Smooth_Candidate_575 to r/PCOS [link] [comments]

Berberine: life changing!
Hi everyone! I thought I would make this post and share my recent experience with supplements- I just started really focusing on treating my pcos back in Dec not just through diet alone but also exercise and supplementing. Since Dec I’ve been taking: inositol, vitamin d, magnesium, methylated b vitamins and glutathione. After some research I started to add berberine into the mix and it’s been 5 days and WOW! The food noise is just gone, it’s almost unbelievable as it’s something I’ve had all my life. I am also feeling fuller sooner when I eat, so it’s such a win and I finally feel hopeful! Has anyone had any similar experiences? I also hope it’s safe to keep taking. I will be seeing my PCP this week for blood work so I am curious as to if she’ll rx metformin as I have HBS. Does anyone know if you can take both berberine and metformin? Thank you!! submitted by /u/elizabethtarot to r/PCOS [link] [comments]

Anyone have success using Berberine for weight loss?
I’m not a candidate for GLP – 1. My metabolism has come to a screeching halt despite eating well and walking every day . I do need to add muscle training again, which I haven’t done in a while. Anyways, I’m not necessarily looking for a magic bullet, but maybe I am? Anyone have success with berberine for weight loss? I guess I’m looking for something other than cocaine ( kidding!) that’ll make me able to drop weight at a slightly higher rate without any negative health issues. Any tips, much appreciated! Berberine has been a miracle for me
I didn't have high expectations for this, but I am pleasantly surprised. I've lost 2 lbs in the week I've started it. I find that it has massively curbed my cravings and food noise. I eat, take the berberine and then I feel full afterwards. Usually when I eat I am still thinking about more things to eat or having seconds. It's like berberine actually makes my body realize that it's eaten and gives me the full signals. As a long term binge eater this is such a success, I feel like I'm better able to stop after a serving and that's something I haven't been able to do since before my ED. I don't know what the future looks with this but I'm going to keep taking it, it makes me feel like a normal person. submitted by /u/oversaltedeverything to r/InsulinResistance [link] [comments]

Berberine….A MAJOR Heads Up!
So I decided to try Berberine in the mix after reading about all the benefits for PCOS symptoms. After only 2 days of being on it, I started to feel all around terrible and the next day I thought I got the worst stomach bug I’ve had since childhood. We’re talking so incredibly sick that I my body was expelling from both ends SIMULTANEOUSLY at one point. A horrific mess….abd felt so out of it. Well, I stopped taking the berberine and after that 1 day of being so sick then 1 day of recovery- I immediately felt better the next morning. I spoke with my friend about it and she admitted that SHE ALSO tried Berberine for hormonal issues before when she was in college, and said she stopped because it made her so sick too!!!! She told me she got headaches & diarrhea so bad she had to run out of class and recover for a day, stopped taking it and felt better the next day. Anyone trying Berberine should try it when they don’t have anything special planned for at least a few days haha. Anyone else experience this?! submitted by /u/Goodeggboi to r/Supplements [link] [comments]

Berberine warning I think everyone should read
I can't link it because it could get auto-removed as potential spam, but I found this on Amazon Reviews, and it's true: I'm putting this as 4 stars because some people will not bother looking at the negative reviews and end up with a medical emergency. This supplement is dangerous in many circumstances. If you do not have high blood sugar, this is dangerous because it will drop your blood sugar fast!! This can put people into a rapid hypoglycemic state and induce weakness and confusion to the point where your brain may not be able to comprehend that you need sugar IMMEDIATELY and need to IMMEDIATELY stop taking this! If you are taking any medications that affect your blood sugar, brain chemistry or have the potential to cause drowsiness, such as blood thinners, antidepressants or sleeping medication, this will increase the effects and side effects of those drugs. I take antidepressants and medication for sleep. I took this supplement in the morning and my medication at night. Thank goodness I did not immediately allow myself to pass out because I started to feel as if I might slip into a coma and possibly stop breathing in my sleep. I managed to eat a snack, started to feel better... tried to lay down to sleep, again felt extremely drugged in a dangerous way... ate another snack, and this went on for several hours until I finally felt comfortable enough to sleep without feeling like my vital signs were not in a dangerous state. If you are fasting or low carb, this supplement may be dangerous because of the rapid drop in blood sugar and blood pressure. You may think this is a good idea to add this in to make the results happen faster and try to power through the dizziness and shakiness. Because of the way this drug continues to drop your blood sugar and blood pressure throughout the day, you may enter into a state of shock in which your brain is not functioning enough for you to realize that you need to eat something IMMEDIATELY and need to stop taking this drug IMMEDIATELY. If you are combining this drug with other supplements to try and manage symptoms of pcos, diabetes or weight loss, you may be expecting this drug to be a minor addition and may not be prepared for the hard and fast drop in blood sugar and blood pressure and you may create a deadly combination with this drug and other supplements. For example, women who are trying to treat pcos may decide to combine this drug with inositol, both of which can rapidly drop blood sugar and blood pressure. I am thankful that I did not combine these two together, especially with my prescription medications. THIS IS A DRUG. If you decide to take this, please take it once and monitor your reaction for several days before you take another dose. I am worried about people who take this several days in a row and ignore any symptoms of shakiness, drowsiness or weakness. Also be aware that this can cause headaches by dropping your blood sugar and blood pressure so that you are not getting enough blood and fuel to your brain. This particular supplement is on par with prescription medication and does not have appropriate warnings of interactions with other substances yet. So there ya go! Don't injure yourself because someone said they lost 20 lbs and cured their pcos/diabetes with this. Many people had negative reactions with berberine, but when I looked up reviews it seems to be more common with higher doses than lower doses. I think it's irresponsible for so many companies to suggest "take two 500mg capsule at once with food" to anyone and everyone. The dosage makes the poison and your reaction can depend on so many factors, such as your size (I am sure 1000mg won't be the same on a 200lb person versus a 100lb person), your current blood sugar level, your current blood pressure (berberine can lower your blood pressure, and if it's too low that can make you sick too), the other medications you may be taking. I got a supplement that recommended 1200mg a day, at once with a meal. If I did that, and I noticed my blood sugar lowering within a day. If I kept it up however as recommended, I probably would have gotten sick. I took into consideration my size, my current blood sugar, other supplements I was taking, and how it may lower my blood pressure too much, and went down to only 300mg a day instead. Be careful. submitted by /u/SarutobiCats to r/prediabetes [link] [comments]

Herbal supplement shows promise against lung cancer: Berberine, a natural compound found in plants such as Barberry and Goldenseal, suppresses the growth of lung cancer cells. It also reduces airway inflammation and damage to healthy lung cells exposed to chemicals from cigarette smoke.
