first time customizing a fake blythe doll!🐰🎀
I’m a stock doll collector but have always wanted to make a custom. It seemed intimidating but I did it! There was a huge learning curve for sure, but I made sure to do a lot of research before starting. Unfortunately, Mr. Super clear spray is not available in my country, so I used a different one, and it kind of ruined the base layer a little. submitted by /u/cyborghostt to r/BlytheDolls [link] [comments]

State of Blythe Dolls Sub
r/BlytheDolls is a community for anyone who appreciates authentic Blythe, customized authentic Blythe and fakes customized or not. I joined this community over 5 years ago, the mod at that time had the intention of making this a space for everyone since there is so much cross over in the Blythe online community. Many of the online Blythe spaces allow for both authentic and fake dolls, customized or not and mirroring that in the Reddit online community made sense. Almost 2 years ago the TikTok Blythe trend brought a lot of people here, it went from a small handful to thousands in the span of a couple weeks. At this point it was not moderated at all and ConfettiBowl was able to step up and start modding as there was endless scams and misinformation spreading. They were managing over a 1000 new members per week and spent 100s of hours moderating, cleaning things up and editing a long forgot about fandom wiki: https://blythe.fandom.com/wiki/Blythe_Wiki I volunteered to mod as I have loved Blythe since I first saw This Is Blythe book. I have been along on the journey and I am feeling a loss now that ConfettiBowl has left our community. As we move into the next phase of what r/BlytheDolls I want to pay tribute to the three women who brought us Blythe: Allison Katzman https://www.blythedoll.com/en/news/20200228_allisonkatzman/ https://www.king5.com/article/entertainment/television/programs/evening/the-life-and-times-of-the-wide-eyed-beautiful-blythe/281-481457420 https://chicago.suntimes.com/2020/4/3/21203998/blythe-doll-allison-katzman-inventor-collectible-obituary Gina Garan https://januarymagazine.com/artcult/blythe.html https://cgarchives.org/gina-garan/ https://www.collectorsweekly.com/articles/an-interview-with-blythe-doll-collector-gina-garan/ Junko Wong https://www.blythedoll.com/en/whats/#junko https://www.hawaii.edu/malamalama/2010/01/junko-wong/ https://junko-and-blythe.blogspot.com/2014/11/interview-with-junko-wong-10-years-of.html Secondly, I feel for transparency I want to share some issues that we have encountered, that in hindsight should have been addressed differently as well as clearly to everyone in our sub. Good Neighbor: We will not allow screenshots of other subs and if our sub is used for screenshots to create a divide there will be bans as a consequence. I have personally reached out to the other mod for help addressing this. https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/27031145215252-Moderator-Code-of-Conduct-Rule-3-Respect-Your-Neighbors Alt Accounts/Trolls: There has been a trend of people using alt accounts to create divide. This has been ongoing for over a year. Please be mindful if someone has a relatively new account and starts causing issues between multiple subreddits - they are either trolling or using a different account to anonymize themselves from their actual online Blythe footprint. I don't know the logic behind this, maybe they feel unrecognized in other Blythe spaces or they have been bullied themselves. Report any suspicious activity by flagging the post or sending a message. Bans: Less than 10 people out of 10k plus (outside of spammers) have been banned from this sub for either bullying someones physical appearance, or brigading. No one has been banned for not liking fakes, no one has been banned because mods love fake dolls more than authentic. Fakes vs Authentic: There has been some confusion on using the word fake is derogatory, or that this board is biased towards fake vs. authentic. We want this space to be for everyone, and we also need to clearly delineate the difference between the two. We only use the term fake in our flairs to eliminate the confusion regarding authentic or not. The use of the word Factory is should be reserved for dolls derived from authentic discarded authentic CWC Takara Tomy parts from the late 00's early 10's. There are not many of these around, but there are some. They've popped up in this sub, many long time collectors have them. Factory should not be used to describe all fake dolls or be used as an alternative to the word fake because it sounds better. TBL was a term created by Dr.Blythenstein http://theblytheguide.com/fake-factory-tbl-dolls/ and is widely used by customizers on Etsy and other platforms. Many people new to Blythe purchase a TBL custom not knowing that this is a fake base doll believing TBL is like RBL/SBL etc. When they post not just here, but in many other online spaces they can be met with hostility if they think their base doll is authentic. Please flag the post if you believe it was incorrectly flaired. We're never all going to agree on what's the right way to Blythe. We don't have to come to a consensus to enjoy this hobby. The greater Blythe community at large outside of reddit has spaces that include stock, fake dolls, customized dolls (fake or authentic), and there are spaces where only authentic stock dolls and even within that there are further groups drilled down to which release/ which manufacturer of stock dolls. There are doll shows and cons where everything goes, there are doll shows and cons where it must be an authentic doll. Lastly, to drive this point home - this sub above all else is a safe space for community to grow and share their creativity without fear of being ridiculed or your content and/or words being used elsewhere for that purpose. There is so much ugliness and sadness in the world, and people need a creative outlet. Try to keep that in mind. Some may be teens that are just starting out, and don't have a place to share their creative outlet. Some people may be disabled or immune compromised and cannot interact in person at shows or cons. Some may have an income that only allows them to have a fake, or maybe someone lost a loved one and used inheritance to buy a grail stock doll. Maybe they saved up for years and years to get an authentic doll. Maybe they really love the look of a fake or only love the look of an SBL stock. Doesn't make someone an elitist to have stock, doesn't make someone invaluable or unable to participate because they have a fake. We're all on this journey through this life, we can be kind and respectful to each other. There are plenty of online spaces where you can tear people down, and this is not one of them. I don’t think that Allison/Gina/Junko would want this doll to be a reason to fight and argue over. Perhaps the next great creative in the Blythe-verse is in this sub right now, or will discover it one day in the future. submitted by /u/umimama to r/BlytheDolls [link] [comments]

Who else actually liked Blythe dolls as a kid?
A lot of collectors say they hated Blythe ("they look creepy, not fitting into the LPS style, what a DOLL is doing in my animal collection 😤") but I always liked them even if I wasn't a doll kid. They are charming to me idk. This one I bought on vinted or OLX because I couldn't afford getting her as a kid and she plus pets were my dreams. I plan to get more in the future and then I'll show all my Blythe dolls (I have 4 for now). What do you think of them? submitted by /u/Jestercia to r/LittlestPetShop [link] [comments]

Is this a genuine Blythe doll?
Wondering if someone could help me ID if this Blythe doll is genuine or fake? Some more info: I purchased this doll on EBay for a price that felt way too good to be real (less than $100) The hair feels more rough than the fake doll I have. Not greasy at all. The head can be moved 360 degrees Only body articulation is the knees that can be bent. Otherwise just standard Barbie body articulation There is some copyright info on the back of the doll head and body (but I know fakes sometimes have this as well) If this is a genuine Blythe doll, I’m thinking maybe it is Lounging Lovely?? If she is in fact a real Blythe, I would also love if someone could help ID the name! submitted by /u/ellie1019 to r/BlytheDolls [link] [comments]

Maybe not the typical post, but I made this Blythe doll outfit entirely by hand and I'm super proud!
I'm working on a mini me Blythe doll for my sister's birthday and she requested this outfit that she wore for a birthday photoshoot. I drafted the pattern for both pieces by hand and used a cotton sample swatch from Spoonflower for the fabric. The trim is vintage/thrifted and the little ties are braided embroidery floss. All stitching was done by hand. Second pic is the original! submitted by /u/Unique-Fix-4926 to r/sewing [link] [comments]

I didn't know about "This is Blythe" and I just realized I've been scammed
I recently started collecting dolls in general and fell in love with the look of Blythe dolls. As a newbie to the Blythe world, I google searched "buy a Blythe doll" and thisisblythe.com was the main search return. The site seemed very legit, so I placed an order. Today after doing more research about "This is Blythe" and a reverse image search of the doll I ordered, I found the same doll for half the price on Aliexpress. I'm currently trying to cancel the order, but it doesn't seem likely that I'll be able to. Any suggestions? Thanks. submitted by /u/SquidTeats to r/BlytheDolls [link] [comments]

Unpopular Opinion - I hate Blythe Dolls
I like the look of some customs, where they've put a lot of work into painting the face to make it super detailed and even modding the nose and mouth but the actual doll, as sold, just looks so basic and cheap to me. I absolutely DETEST that shiny face, which has virtually no faceup, with plain round eyes. AND the body is the world's most basic dolls body, with no articulation, no detail. It looks like something you'd get at a corner shop, or off the market, for the change in your pocket. I honestly cannot see anything that could justify the high price other than its cult status, that just seems built on the custom dolls. I feel like I'm going mad though, because everyone else in the doll community seems to love them. submitted by /u/PaperDollDancer to r/Dolls [link] [comments]
