Almost have a crawler on our hands! What would work to baby proof the bottom of our stairs? We also have a cat who currently uses a litter box upstairs so we are really on hard mode!

I love my cat, no idea why you would let your cat do a majority of these, my cat has strict "You're not allowed there" policy that she follows pretty damn well. And I'm thankful I have a outside area boxed out for a litter box area so the smell doesn't linger inside the house

This is more of a vent. We have a litter (unscented Tidy Cats Tidy Feet--nice and low tracking) that works well enough for our two cats, but I wanted to try something for the box the 8 month old kitten primarily uses. Her box is in our restroom and just seems to smell a lot more. I've heard that kittens also have smellier waste as their food has more protein. I had heard good things about Arm and Hammer Slide but was hesitant as the Amazon listing doesn't specify if it's unscented. I went with Arm and Hammer Ultra Last. The reviews were good and said it had good odor control. The box says something like "works even when you can't scoop" 🥴 I kid you not, the box reeked not even 24 hours later. We try to get two weeks out of the litter (scoop 2-3x daily, top with fresh litter throughout, take out the scooped litter everyday to the trash) before doing a full clean and replacement of their stainless boxes. The box was done Tuesday, and we have to fully replace it already. I should have done it a couple days ago but was really hoping to get more out of it. I hate wasting money 😩 $20 down the drain for five days of litter Similarly, we tried Dr. Elsey's, which also has good reviews. People said it has good odor control. That one was just as bad, if not worse. Reeked within a day and made our whole apartment smell so septic and gross. We tried it a few times when first fostering this kitten, as it was cheaper. It smelled soooooo bad, even with windows open, air purifier running, etc. I ended up searching "Dr elsey stinks" and apparently we aren't the only ones who found this one especially foul We even tried it in the box the adult cat primarily uses, and nope. It was awful. I can't stress how bad that one smelled Maybe it's because we live in a small 1200sq ft place so the bad smells are just more noticeable? But between the arm and hammer and the Dr. elsey's, I can't help but wonder if people are nose blind to how bad their boxes smell? Maybe they have better ventilation than our central AC? I've also seen people swear by pellets, but the one time I went to someone's house that used pellets, it smelled so bad. Maybe they just weren't using them properly or had cats going outside of the box. We used pellets briefly for the kitten, but I wasn't convinced. The cost difference is appealing though Maybe my husband and I just have sensitive noses? But it's hard for me to believe we both are just overly sensitive to bad litter smells. But anyway, this is my recommendation for Tidy Cats Tidy Feet. It does actually track less since the pieces are bigger. Not sure about their other lines. Fresh Step was also ok, probably about in line with the Tidy Cats as far as getting two weeks out of it. And if you live in Texas, the HEB litter was also a no-go, but at least it's quite cheap. Wasn’t sure what to flair this as but just wanted to share that I’ve had two cats for 9 years and always bought cheap store brand cat litters (Target, Sam’s Club, most lately Kroger). We have 2 litter boxes so I always was trying to save money because name brand litters are obviously more expensive. Well recently they seem to have discontinued the generic brand I was using and one cat was having behavioral issues so I figured why not go for Tidy Cats Unscented and just see what happens. It has been life changing! Scooping the boxes used to be a dreaded chore, dragging the boxes outside because there would be so much dust from even minimal scooping and the clumps just fell apart leaving the boxes clean-er but with plenty of saturated chunks to still smell the boxes up. The Tidy Cats clumps stay together, virtually no dust, quick and easy scooping. Since the clumps stay together I’m using LESS litter while also having cleaner boxes and I’m over the moon. After rereading this I feel like it sounds like an ad but really I’m sure most name brand litters are better than the junk I was using. If anyone is in the boat I was in for 9 years, just give one of the slightly pricier options a try and it could change your life for the better too. alright, i'm officially done with my current litter. it tracks everywhere and just doesn't control odor like it used to. i have two cats and a small apartment, so this is a major quality of life issue. i've tried a bunch over the years—clay, crystals, pine, even that weird corn stuff—and they all have some dealbreaker. i'm trying to look ahead and see what might be the best cat litter 2026 in terms of new tech or formulas. my priorities are: minimal tracking, excellent odor control (like, truly excellent), and low dust because one cat is a bit sneezy. clumping is pretty much a must. i'm not super concerned about price if it actually works well and lasts. are there any newer brands or types that have come out recently that are game changers? i see more plant-based and sustainable options popping up, but do they actually perform? also, what about those fancy self-cleaning boxes, do they require a specific litter to work well? for those with multi-cat households in small spaces, what's your holy grail? i just want to stop vacuuming twice a day and having my place smell like a barn. any insights would be so appreciated. submitted by /u/Tifrah_Teurn to r/CleaningTips [link] [comments]

Looking for some litter advice. I have a 9 year old bengal that i got when he was 3. Pretty easygoing cat. Top entry litter box. Here's the litter history: First 4 years I used Arm & Hammer Clump & Seal. It was fine; dusty, laborious, and a bit smelly but manageable as a person looking to save a buck. Next 2 years I move to Pretty Litter. It was pretty solid; smell wasn't an issue, didn't have to do anything more then once a month other than scoop the poop. Big downside was how bad it tracked, even with the top entry box. Past year I switched over to Tuft & Paw. Lived up to the hype about no tracking. Yet it smelled, like really bad. And not the 'standard' cat litter smell, somehow considerably worse. Not to mention slowly having to add/replace litter over the course of a month. Should have listened to the reviews. I just want something that: Doesn't track Doesn't smell Is dustfree I don't have to replace/add-to more than once a month Also... Price is not an issue, I don't care about the composition of the litter, and I am not open to a litterbox robot. Some people may recall I posted what I call the Cat Litter Holy Grail a little while back. After doing a lot of testing, in an excel spreadsheet which I also posted, I came up with a combination of litter and litter box that had no tracking, no odour and lasted a decent amount of time. In the spreadsheet, I give 5 different attributes a score out of 4 stars, each time I change the litter based on the results from the previous litter change. I measure tracking, smell, internal mess of the PetSnowy that I use, Duration of litter lasting, and how full the draw was at the time of changing. At the time I posted, my cat had just been diagnosed with diabetes that same week so he was using the litter box a lot and it made it a bit difficult to judge the duration score. Anyway, I provided a pretty good list of the litters and methods I use to get the results. *** I know the first thing some of you will do is respond and tell me how you use XYZ litter and how it is the best and much easier and cheaper and etc etc… I get it. We all have our own preferences. This outline works for me because I live in a relatively small condo, have two cats, a dog, and in Toronto it can get humid in the summer so I need to be mindful of that. I also have a partner who can’t stand cats (no need to comment on that, we have our arrangement and it works). I also hate changing the litter so my goal was to find a combination that addressed all 5 of those characteristics and lasts the longest amount of time. Is this the most cost efficient? Probably not. Does this work? Absolutely and it is the first combination I have given all 5 characteristics either 3.75 or 4 stars consistently for the last 4 litter changes plus 2 earlier changes in my testing timeline. So if you are looking for a combination of litters that don’t track, don’t smell, stays clean on the inside, doesn’t fill up the drawer too fast and lasts for 4 days between changes with all of the above maintaining their standard, and if cost isn’t the biggest concern for you, and you don’t mind a few extra seconds during the changes to measure, then this is for you. I am not affiliated with anyone, any thing, any company, or product, I’m just me, and did the work to create a spreadsheet. If you are a product creator, well you are getting a secret recipe for a guaranteed winner and if you make millions and I find you, be prepared to cut me in because I did the work :) This post, is an improved concoction from my post in April, as I’ve continued my testing and managed to get it to a full 4 days between changes with all of the above characteristics staying true to form for that time. NOTE: after 96 hours, it deteriorates rapidly so be prepared to change it but even at hour 88, there was still plenty of litter inside to use and no smell or tracking. There are all sorts of ways you can play with these and try to cut out some things etc.. I’m just telling you what works perfectly for me after over 6 months of charting the results of every litter change, to find what works best in the small space we have and to create the least amount of work for me while ensuring the least impediment for my partner whose bathroom is right beside the litter box so containing the litter smell is a big priority. And before some moron says “oh he’s a troll or he’s with one of the companies” I’m not and if you wish to think that, knock yourself out, I have no desire to convince you otherwise so feel free to ignore what I’m sharing then. However, for those who care about what the holy grail of litter means to me, it is as follows, which I share purely out of the nice guy in me, because I would want someone to share this with me. So I just purchased 13 different types of litter and literally created an excel sheet and monitored tracking, smell, cleanliness inside the snowy, duration and how fast for the bin to get full. I have finally come up with the perfect combination of litters. It isn’t cheap but it isn’t terrible, it is about 1.5-1.7 times the cost of Arm & Hammer Slide and those premium clay litters. So this combination I settled on gave me: - zero tracking - zero smell - lasted the longest among the 22 different combinations I tried It should be noted I have two cats, one of which is unstable diabetic so pees excessively If you have just one cat and/or none of your cats are diabetic, your results will be even better than mine so lucky you. I have the Pet Snowy litter box, and I use Glad Cherry Blossom garbage bags, and I use the third party pet snowy bag clips you can buy on Etsy, so you don’t have to pay for the expensive pet snowy bags. For additional smell control, I use a healthy sprinkle of: https://a.co/d/9XH9qhL and https://a.co/d/aLJeFU9 I put a healthy sprinkle in with the litter and also a healthy sprinkle in the empty bag in the bin. It would at least 3.5 days if my cat was urinating normally, probably even 4 days. So this is, to me, the perfect combination. The only drawback is the cost being about 1.5-1.75 times the cost of Arm&Hammer Slide but the trade off is worth it. There is no other drawback to this combination. I have tested it thoroughly, tried every litter out there, and charted it all. I put my personal word behind this combination and that might not mean anything since you don’t know me, but I would be VERY surprised if someone tried this as I’ve outlined and didn’t also have the exact same conclusion as me. My boyfriend and I found Scrunch (RIGHT) almost two years ago. He was a stray but he was extremely friendly with us and he came to live with us in our apartment. He is the sweetest cat, we took him to get his shots, and got him neutered, and he is always are sweet and lovable good boy. The only issue we had was his litter habits. He HATES litter. He hates the feeling of litter in his paws. We tried all kinds, we tried different spots, we asked the vet if anything we could do. But nothing worked. He always avoided the litter and used either our bathroom sink or our bathtub for using the bathroom. The only thing that remotely worked was putting a pee pad inside the litter box and putting the litter in top, but sometimes he would still just use the sink or the bare tub. It was stressing us out, but he is our cat nonetheless and we weren’t going to give up on him. Around April of this year, we decided to get a kitten because we knew that scrunch was alone for most of the day in our apartment due to our long work schedules and he was very sad. His mood quickly changed for the better, as he became more energetic and happy again. The kitten’s name is Dexter (LEFT), and scrunch basically adopted him like a son, he grooms him regularly, teaches him how to play, and he’s even adopting some of scrunch’s quirky mannerisms that make him such a funny cat. Dexter, however, knows how to use the litter box at just two months old, and he uses it without fail! We thought, maybe scrunch can learn from him. We weren’t really expecting anything since Scrunch had never used the litter box consistently in the ENTIRE TIME we had him. To our surprise, we see scrunch more interested in sniffing around the litter box and peeing and pooping next to the litter box because he sees Dexter using the litter boxes a lot. Still frustrating, but a step in the right direction. I because optimistic, I got a litter mat to catch the litter around the box, and but both litter boxes on the mat. I moved the litter boxes to an area that was easier to access for him. Then, one day, he pooped I. The litter box. He didn’t bury it though because, again, he hates the feeling of litter in his paws. But then Dexter came in and bury Scrunch’s poop for him. This is the third day where scrunch has consistently popped in the litter. He still occasionally pee’s in the bathtub, which is an easy wash anyways. It would be preferable if he did both in the litter, but him pooping in the litter has been such a massive improvement. I’ve been keeping the litter cleaned every day to so that he can always have fresh litter to use, but I am so happy that we made progress in this issue because it has been stressing us out. I just want to share my own opinion and reviews for cat litter that my cats already tried that you can easily find online or in pet shops for reference I have 2 Cats 1 Male (Kapon) and 1 Female and idk if same sa lahat pero mas matapang talaga ang amoy ng pee ng male cats compared sa female Also I cleaned my cats litter box 2x a day And do Reset Cleaning (change of sand and deep clean of box) depending on the litter type Bentonite Cat Litter- This is the first cat litter that I tried when I got my first cat being a first time cat parent I don't have any knowledge and this is the most common and easy to find. I don't recommend this for many reasons • odor control- Di super effective need palitan agad since mabilis bumaho • Clumping- Mabilis madurog pag nag lilinis • Health issues- According sa Vet namin mas prone ang cats specially male sa uti if bentonite yung gamit • I need to do reset clean every 2 days 1.1 Clissora Pets Forever fresh- Tried this for a very short time and it's really a no for me I just tried it since madaming nag rerecommend sa tiktok na maganda daw and ganto ganyan pero no first issue is odor control di talaga okay and ang bilis madurog ng clumps medyo dissapointed since di rin naman sya budget friendly • I need to do reset clean every 2 days since mabilis bumaho Tofu Litter- I only use this pag may kittens kami perfect for litter training since kittens are very curious they will play with it and they might try to eat it •Odor Control- Okay sya for first few days if laging nag lilinis •Clumping- Okay yung clumping nya for small clumps lang (For kittens) pero for big clumps mabilis madurog •Since kittens palang nagamit they usually use small litter box so I usually change it every 2 days just for their safety since ginagawa nila lahat sa sand Cassava Cat litter- I don't have any issues with this one super ganda kaso di sya super budget friendly •I only do a reset clean 1x a week 4.Petsup Cat litter- One of my favorites •Odor Control- Di sya super great pero di rin super bad •Clumping- No issues at all di nadudurog and di dumidikit • I do reset cleaning 1x a week or 2x sometimes 5.Petcho Volcanic Rock Cat litter- This is my go to this days super natagal sya sa cats ko I only use 1 Bag for my 2 Cats and Resealable yung packaging •Odor Control- One of the main reasons why I switched from petsup to this is super ganda ng odor control nya hindi sya bumabaho talaga •Clumping - Same with petsup since pino yung sand super ganda ng clumping nya and di nadudurog or nadikit • I only do reset clean 1x a week and not because mabaho sya just for cleanliness All of these are just my own opinion based on my own experience and I also recommend the stainless scooper for cat litter since pag plastic mabilis kapitan ng amoy submitted by /u/_Aurelius_d to r/catsofrph [link] [comments]
