After several years of use I can safely say the litter robot is NOT WORTH IT
After yet another flashing yellow light I am over it. I just inhaled a bunch of kitty litter dust manually resetting this thing. It's like, bro, you have one job. You spin. You don't even spin that much. I ask you, fellow users, how often are you dealing with errors per year with your device? It's smooth sailing initially - but ohh boy welcome to error hell once that honeymoon period wears off. Like, imagine if you had to deal with this many errors with your washing machine? It's a more reliable device - and it spins about x1000 more per year! And hell you probably paid less for it too! Do not buy. You will come to regret as I have. Now pray for my lungs yall. P.S. Also had a lot of issues with the cat not going all the way in, but it's hard to blame LitterRobot on that it's more that one of my cats is just a bit special. But yeah something to worry about as well if you are a perspective buyer. submitted by /u/OhManTFE to r/litterrobot [link] [comments]

Back to scooping after 6 months of using a litter robot
Hi, I'm a "recent" cat mom with 3 cats (since july 2024) and wanted to share my thoughts on owning a litter robot/automatic litterbox (NOT THE BRAND LR), in case it helps someone. This is just a personal opinion! (Picture of the automatic litterbox in the comments) ** IM NOT TALKING ABOUT LITTER ROBOT SPECIFICALLY (WHISKER BRAND), MY AUTOMATIC LITTERBOX IS FROM SPAIN *I speak both English and Spanish, in case anyone wants to ask in Spanish too TLDR: Automatic litter boxes require a lot of effort to clean and even more to clean thoroughly. If you like to keep your house clean, are sensitive to odours and don't have much time, automatic litter boxes may not be the best option🥲 So I bought my first litter box in August 2024, the kind that is a white closed drum that rotates. At the time I had 2 cats and a regular litter tray as well (can't bear the thought of my cats having to go potty at the same time and not being able to). At first I was quite happy with the change, the robot worked perfectly and I only had to scoop one tray. But after a few months, I started hating it, because: Every time I change the bag (after 4-5 day), I also clean the surface, which means I vacuum the area where the bag was (as there is always dust or dirty sand left around) and then clean it with disinfectant wipes inside and out (having to bend down the whole time), as most of the time there is poo left on the inside surface and, if it is not cleaned, it smells bad (and it's visually disgusting). I kneel down almost every day to check that there are no traces of faeces on the walls and to check the amount of litter. It's quite easy for poo to stick to the walls if the cats have loose stools, and if this happens, even if it's not the day to change the bag, I wipe the inside with several disinfectant wipes to remove it. Every time you open the compartment to change the bag, the smell is awful. It has been contained for 4-5 days, and when you open it, it hits you in the face so hard that if you don't close it quickly, it stuns you for a while (I am very sensitive to smells, and every time I do this, I can't eat anything after because I feel like the bad smell lingers in the back of my nostrils...). It also lingers in the room where the robot is for quite a while, even if you open the window. Deep cleaning should be done every month or two, but I didn't do it for the first time until four months had passed, and it took me about an hour in the bath, at the expense of my back (I was in pain for a week afterwards). In addition, there was a horrible smell that persisted and was impossible to remove, despite using soap, cleaning vinegar and hot water. I realised that it persisted on the robot's silicone mat, as well as in the corners and grooves. My cats love to use the robot as a trampoline to reach the sink, which means that every time they climb on it, it detects that a cat has entered, and after a few minutes it starts spinning. This is a minor issue, but just so you know it can happen xd. I now have 3 cats, and for a couple of months, I've been managing with the robot and two regular litter trays. Cleaning up after them every day takes me about five minutes (and I do it twice a day), because one tray is next to the toilet and I use tofu litter, and the other is next to a bin that works perfectly for containing odours, and I only change the bag once a week. But changing the robot's bag and cleaning it every four days after I get home from work exhausts me both physically and psychologically. It takes me 15 to 20 minutes, and it's the LAST thing I want to do after a hard day's work. Maybe I'm too demanding when it comes to cleaning the robot, but I feel that for people who are sensitive to odours and have high standards of cleanliness, it's not ideal. So I got rid of the robot, replaced it with a stainless steel tray alongside the other two I already have, and significantly improved my daily life. The important thing is to use litter that clumps well and masks odours immediately. With the litter I use, the tray stays clean for a month and a half, and when it's time to empty and clean it thoroughly, it takes me 15 minutes to scrub it with a scouring pad and rinse it in the bath. Yes, I scoop every day, but as I mentioned before, it only takes me 5 minutes and, anyway, I was already doing it... I could have a robot for each cat, but apart from how expensive that would be, I don't even want to imagine the hassle of cleaning several of them on the day it was due. It wouldn't be 20 minutes, it would be 1 hour every 4 days. If you've made it to the end, I really appreciate it. To me, it means that you care about my opinion or that you're concerned/interested enough about the topic (as I was before buying the robot). Please leave me a comment sharing your opinion, questions, or simply showing your support! I'd love read them all 🩵🤍🧡 submitted by /u/OnigiriMarS to r/CatAdvice [link] [comments]

is it worth the hype? looking at the best litter robot 2026 models.
so i have three cats and i'm beyond tired of the daily scooping routine. i've been looking at those self-cleaning boxes for years but could never pull the trigger because of the price and mixed reviews. now i'm thinking it might finally be time, especially if newer models are better. i'm trying to research the best litter robot 2026 options but i'm not sure what's actually new versus just a repackage of an old model. my main concerns are: reliability (i've read stories about them getting stuck), noise level (my cats are skittish), and whether it can truly handle three cats. also, the whole litter thing—does it work with any clumping litter or do you have to buy their specific expensive kind? for those who took the plunge, which model do you have and would you call it the best litter robot 2026 contender? how long have you had it and have you had any major issues? did your cats actually adapt to it okay? i'm worried about spending all that money and then having a fancy paperweight. any honest feedback or things you wish you knew before buying would be a huge help. submitted by /u/Ogonnaya-Nangendo to r/CatAdvice [link] [comments]

Is there a cat litter that doesn't... suck?
Looking for some litter advice. I have a 9 year old bengal that i got when he was 3. Pretty easygoing cat. Top entry litter box. Here's the litter history: First 4 years I used Arm & Hammer Clump & Seal. It was fine; dusty, laborious, and a bit smelly but manageable as a person looking to save a buck. Next 2 years I move to Pretty Litter. It was pretty solid; smell wasn't an issue, didn't have to do anything more then once a month other than scoop the poop. Big downside was how bad it tracked, even with the top entry box. Past year I switched over to Tuft & Paw. Lived up to the hype about no tracking. Yet it smelled, like really bad. And not the 'standard' cat litter smell, somehow considerably worse. Not to mention slowly having to add/replace litter over the course of a month. Should have listened to the reviews. I just want something that: Doesn't track Doesn't smell Is dustfree I don't have to replace/add-to more than once a month Also... Price is not an issue, I don't care about the composition of the litter, and I am not open to a litterbox robot. Where do I go from here? submitted by /u/catintheroom to r/CatAdvice [link] [comments]

What are good automatic litter boxes (other than the litter robot)?
I would like to purchase an automatic litter box that isn’t a litter robot due to the insane price. Budget is around $300. I see several options on Amazon but I’m not sure if any of the options are any good. The main reason is odor control. I’d ideally like an automatic litter box that has good odor control. Does anyone have any self-cleaning litter boxes they’ve purchased where it’s been a positive experience? I appreciate the advice and recommendations submitted by /u/Ok-Pool7559 to r/CatAdvice [link] [comments]

I've had my robot almost 2 months and I swear I love it but I feel like it wastes tons of litter. I switched to lady n tofu litter for automatic boxes. I've used tidy cat also. And only do the recommended amount too. But Idk it feels like tons of waste of litter. So what do y'all use? I need to know what's best before I spend money to get a second one. Regarding our new premium features with Whisker+, they are primarily focused on features with more compute, like CatID facial recognition, video storage, triggered notifications, longer data history, Litter-Robot EVO smart enablement, and more. Thank you for your community involvement. We look forward to continuing to learn from each of you. Keep it coming! Go to the new Whisker.com to see the full lineup! NOTE: Download full history (beyond the current one month) was removed in 2024 because the feature was too much load on the app and delivered a bad user experience. Litter Robot 5
They even adopted the naming from phones. Main updates are the two camera system, a slight bigger waste drawer and the LCD screen. It recognizes if’s it’s poop or pee to determine how quick to cycle. Also has Ai facial recognition to see which cat used the litter robot. Just realized that the streaming function of the camera is limited to 5 minutes per day without the Whisker+ subscription. Whisker+ is $79 per year. submitted by /u/Sky9299 to r/litterrobot [link] [comments]

Litter Robot saved my cat’s life.
Back in May, my cat Tyr started going to the box frequently and because I could monitor his usage through the app, I was able to provide his vet time stamped proof. I caught it so early his vet couldn’t see any stones in his bladder yet, just sediment. We did a diet change, added gabapentin to his routine, and all was well until he started visiting frequently again; this time with blood in his urine. His vet took a urine culture and recommended keeping an eye on him for the time being. Two days later he fully obstructed. After five days in the hospital he was sent home and everything was fine until he started going to the box frequently again. I rushed him to the vet again, and his bladder was very full and he was obstructing again. Finally, his doctor saw the stones on the ultrasound this time. We decided on a very aggressive form of treatment since he’d obstructed twice already and I’m so glad we did. He has (had?) abnormally small male anatomy and he’d have continued obstructing again and again, it was just a matter of time. Fingers crossed, he’s two weeks post op, out of his cone, and only visiting the box every 4-6 hours again. I’d never have caught this so early had it not been for the app and would not have been so proactive in his treatment. It’s silly to say a litter box saved my sweet boy’s life, but it definitely gave me the info I needed to catch it early. I lost another cat to the same thing almost fifteen years ago and I’ve never forgiven myself for not catching it before he was too far gone. If I’d had this litter box, I know I could have caught it before it was too late. submitted by /u/One_Science8349 to r/litterrobot [link] [comments]

After 22 different fully charted cat litter tests… I have finally found the holy grail
And before some moron says “oh he’s a troll or he’s with one of the companies” I’m not and if you wish to think that, knock yourself out, I have no desire to convince you otherwise so feel free to ignore what I’m sharing then. However, for those who care about what the holy grail of litter means to me, it is as follows, which I share purely out of the nice guy in me, because I would want someone to share this with me. So I just purchased 13 different types of litter and literally created an excel sheet and monitored tracking, smell, cleanliness inside the snowy, duration and how fast for the bin to get full. I have finally come up with the perfect combination of litters. It isn’t cheap but it isn’t terrible, it is about 1.5-1.7 times the cost of Arm & Hammer Slide and those premium clay litters. So this combination I settled on gave me: - zero tracking - zero smell - lasted the longest among the 22 different combinations I tried It should be noted I have two cats, one of which is unstable diabetic so pees excessively If you have just one cat and/or none of your cats are diabetic, your results will be even better than mine so lucky you. I have the Pet Snowy litter box, and I use Glad Cherry Blossom garbage bags, and I use the third party pet snowy bag clips you can buy on Etsy, so you don’t have to pay for the expensive pet snowy bags. For additional smell control, I use a healthy sprinkle of: https://a.co/d/9XH9qhL and https://a.co/d/aLJeFU9 I put a healthy sprinkle in with the litter and also a healthy sprinkle in the empty bag in the bin. The litter combination I use is as follows: 3 Cups of the multigrain Sustainably Yours https://www.petsmart.ca/5308031.html 4 Cups of CatIt Pea Husk Litter https://a.co/d/e7vh7UP 2cups PetSafe unscented litter crystals https://a.co/d/hpge2KE This lasted my two cats, one with very excessive urinating, 2.5 days between changes, zero tracking, zero smell, no scooping. It would at least 3.5 days if my cat was urinating normally, probably even 4 days. So this is, to me, the perfect combination. The only drawback is the cost being about 1.5-1.75 times the cost of Arm&Hammer Slide but the trade off is worth it. There is no other drawback to this combination. I have tested it thoroughly, tried every litter out there, and charted it all. I put my personal word behind this combination and that might not mean anything since you don’t know me, but I would be VERY surprised if someone tried this as I’ve outlined and didn’t also have the exact same conclusion as me. Let me know if you try it! Spreadsheet can be found at: https://drive.google.com/file/d/10y1qqYP5dmEB5IzUWbqS19soCO2vdBlJ/view?usp=drive_link Also, the reason I did this is because we live in a very small condo and my partner hates cats to no end. He is very patient otherwise but I have to make sure the cats are as minimal of impact as possible otherwise we fight about it so I’ve just learned to keep on top of it. But that doesn’t mean I want to be doing cat chores all day so I wanted to find the best combination, for as little work as possible. We have a robot vacuum that is programmed to vacuum around the litter box every time a cat is finished going to the washroom, the motion sensor inside tells the vacuum to go to that area and vacuum. So this is one step to make my life easier :) submitted by /u/homeassistantme to r/CatAdvice [link] [comments]

Litter “Killer” Robot. (This is not an advertisement. It’s a warning.)
Hey yall, this is not meant to talk down to anyone who has the automatic litter boxes. I have just recently stumbled upon the fact that some of these automatic litter boxes are actually killing cats. This is not about the actual “Litter Robot”. From what I can tell it’s a certain company that uses the name Llitter Robot” but it’s not the actual one. Another name they use is “Amztoy”. I will not go into details of what has happened to the cats. But please, please, please, look at what you are buying before getting them. The stories I have heard are upsetting. Look up YouTube “One Man Five Cats” and his video “The DEADLY self-cleaning litter boxes that have flooded the market” he uses a stuffed animal to show you what happens if the cats neck is in the opening for to long. They are paying to have negative reviews removed. I would hate for another cat to become a victim to the “Killer Robot”. Stay safe out there!! 🐈⬛🐈⬛ submitted by /u/Striking_Wrangler851 to r/CatAdvice [link] [comments]

It’s been two months and my cat is still terrified of the litter robot :(
There are 3 cats in my household and I’ve had the litter robot for 2 months now. 2 of the cats use the litter robot regularly. Unfortunately, one of my cats is very scared of the robot and will avoid it and use the other litter box. My roommate ordered a litter robot that’s arriving in a few days to replace the standard litter box, so my scaredy cat won’t have a choice but to use the robot. I’ve read articles and tried everything to coax him to use it. When I first got it, he was into it and used it right away. Before I set it up, he even tried to climb in the globe!!! Unfortunately, the setting on my whisker app was automatically set to 7 mins. As soon is it first cycled his poo, it startled him so much. He got fat tail and hid in another room in the apartment. I don’t want him to poop/pee on the floor (which he has done) and I also just don’t want him to be frightened of his toilet I paid so much money for 😭 Does anyone have any advice?? My cat and roommate and I would greatly appurrrciate it submitted by /u/kajais to r/litterrobot [link] [comments]

Cat scared or terrified of the Litter Robot? Here are some of the steps and exercises that worked for me within a few days!
I thought this might help some others who made the same mistake I did; turning on the Litter Robot right out of the box without realizing it would cycle immediately. Holy heck did this scare the bejeezus out of my poor cat. She was terrified to go anywhere near it, which was a huge setback in acclimating her to the LR (entirely my fault, btw). So if I could share two helpful tips right off the bat for new users: The Litter Robot starts a cycle AS SOON AS YOU POWER IT ON. So, if your cat isn't already using the LR, I do not suggest you touch the power button. I thought I would skim the directions, then set it up and take a closer read while the cat checks it out. That was a mistake. As soon as you connect the app to the LR, it will start another cycle. This one I knew after reading the directions more carefully; but it's important you know this also! Okay, so here are some of the steps I took to cure my fearful kitty and get her to use the LR. She was absolutely fearful the Litter Robot was going to eat her. Wouldn't go near the thing, and when she had to in order to pass it and use her normal litter box, her back was arched and she never took her eyes off it. It was a very bad start. I took these steps in the beginning: Day One: Day One was about getting her comfortable in the vicinity of the litter box. I needed her to know it wasn't going to come after her or anything, and she could relax near it. Holding her and petting her close to the litter box. I started far away, calling her over and petting her. My cat is attention motivated rather than food motivated, for the most part, so petting is the best way to convince her to do things. I started far away from it in a totally safe zone, then alternated between closer to it and farther away for a few hours (not consecutively, this is something I did between other things during the day). This ended with me sitting against the wall, next to the Litter Robot, petting her and holding her. At first she didn't want to take her eyes off the LR, for fear it might come alive again, but eventually the petting won her over and she stopped worrying so much. Feeding her near the Litter Robot. I set up her dinner next to it, and while she isn't "food motivated" like a dog, she definitely likes eating enough to not skip her meal. This was kind of a dick move from her perspective, I'm sure, but it was also kind of amusing watching her take a few bites and then peek back to make sure the LR hadn't moved any closer. I put the food right next to it, forcing the issue. I stayed closeby at first, but since my cat doesn't eat her whole meal all at once, I let her go back and forth on her own until the meal was finished. By the end she seemed relatively assured that it was cool to hang out around the LR. Day Two: Day Two was about getting her to recognize that the Litter Robot is, in fact, a litter box. I didn't need her to use it yet, but I wanted her to know what it was so she wouldn't be so afraid. Overnight she had clearly done more inspecting and was now very wary, but also curious, about the LR. This was progress! Continued with the same steps from Day One. I noticed she was curious about the entrance of the LR, but not brave enough to step up and look inside (I don't have the stairs). I figured this would be a stumbling block, so I dragged over a tool box that served as a stair/platform. Her next meal was on top of the platform, and I set it up so that she was facing the entrance while eating. So now, when she would look up to check on the LR between bites, she could see inside of it. I once again let her wander back and forth on her own between eating sessions, and by the end of this meal, she was inching her head near the opening to sniff; but definitely still not brave enough to stick her head inside. It was at this point I added some of her used litter on top of the clean litter in the LR. Now that she was sniffing it, I wanted her to be smelling her own scents. Mine is a refurbished unit, so I definitely didn't want her catching a whiff of another cat and getting scared or anxious again. I needed her to recognize that this is her litter box, even if she isn't keen on using it yet. Day Three: Day Three was mostly just repeating the steps from the previous two days to solidify her confidence in being around the Litter Robot, and that checking it out for herself was a safe thing to do. Anytime I was nearby and saw her scoping out the entrance, I rained affection on her as soon as she lost interest. I could tell that the petting and affection was working as a motivator, and she was starting to associate the LR with good things happening. Fed her a final meal near the LR, but with the dirty litter inside, I retired this trick. I wanted to check her progress mostly, and she was eating confidently and pausing once in a while to smell the entrance from the toolbox/platform. Perfect. Gave her a lot more space to do her own thing on Day Three, and scope out the LR on her own mostly. Mixed in petting and attention as described above, but only when I was already in the area. She needs to know the LR is safe, even when I am not around, so I thought space was important today. Day Four: Day Four might catch me some heat, because I did something the Litter Robot instructions expressly forbid: I placed my cat inside the Litter Robot. I know, I know! But for background, I used this exact same method to acclimate her to a covered litter box over a year ago and it worked perfectly. I'm not sure I recommend this to everyone, but for my cat, I had evidence already that this would work. The goal today was to convince her that going in, and out, of the Litter Robot is perfectly safe and nothing bad will happen. To put her in the Litter Robot, first I held her. From the holding/petting exercises we had been doing already, she was very chill and relaxed even though we were nearby the LR. I lowered her down gently, still petting, so that her head was near the entrance. I waited for her, on her own, to crane her neck around and sniff at it. Gently, I sort of followed her motion to free her body up and let her inspect it; but then I also gently nudged her inside. That was okay with her for maybe two seconds, long enough for me to get out of the way. She spun around and bolted out of the LR, and I immediately petted her and congratulated her on a job well done. This is something we repeated several times, with breaks in between, to assure her that she can leave the LR whenever she likes and that going inside results in a reward; petting and scritches. Not every attempt went well, and if she resisted too much, I let up and got out of the way. It was maybe five or six times before she stopped minding going inside completely, and it became casual for her to go in, turn around, and leap out for her rewards. It seemed like kind of a fun game to her by this point. We repeated this a bunch more times until I was confident we had it down. Phase II of this exercise is going to sound even worse, but I graduated to blocking her from leaving the LR. I needed her to hang around long enough to be comfortable inside of it, in addition to going in and out. To accomplish this, I didn't block her with physical force, but instead, I rewarded her before she could leap out. Essentially, as soon as she turned around to hop out, I attacked her with pets and scritches. The first few times I didn't hold her prisoner for very long, because I wanted to keep this an activity she likes to do. If she wanted out, she got out. Gradually, I held her prisoner with love for a little longer, and then a little longer. By the end of the day, she was hanging out and enjoying being petted and scritched with little fear of her surroundings. She was inside the Litter Robot and totally relaxed, which was a HUGE win compared to a few days before. I don't know whether this helped or not, but a few times while she was inside the Litter Robot and calm, I gently moved her front paws to mimic burying in the litter. This seemed a little ridiculous to both of us, I think, so I only did it a few times. Worth noting for sure; I was not cleaning the old box during this time. Yes, it smelled very bad by Day Four. I also felt bad for her having to use a yucky box (although her old box is huge so she wasn't walking in her own mess or anything). I would have 100% caved if it hadn't been for Day Five. Day Five: Day Five is today! And I am one proud cat papa. It took most of the day, and I was watching from my work desk every time she went near it, but she USED the Litter Robot!!! I heard the scraping and it didn't sound like the usual sound of her missing the litter and scraping the walls of her old box, so I turned around and sure enough- she was in there doing business! She got a hero's welcome on her way out, believe me. The second time she used it, I removed the old box and it is now outside and empty where she can't use it anymore. Her other known pee spot (from when she was sick) is the bathtub, which is also inaccessible, and I barricaded the hallway where the old box was with the Litter Robot itself. Her choices are pretty limited. She will either have to pee in an unfamiliar spot in my small apartment, or use the Litter Robot (which she seems keen on doing now, anyhow). You may decide to take this step slower, and that makes a lot of sense, but the state of her old box kind of forced my hand a little. I wanted her to keep using the LR, but feared she would stop if her old box was cleaned. I have not turned on the LR once since the first cycle, and don't plan to for AT LEAST two weeks. I will be thinking of ways to cautiously introduce her to that process until then, but in the meantime, it is unplugged and there is no danger of scaring her off again for now. I will be manually cleaning it, but for another day or two I will leave a few small presents in the litter so she can smell it, and clean the rest. So that's it! Scaredy cat to brave Litter Robot lioness in a few days, with a lot of hard work. If your cat gets spooked or scared, I hope some of my process can help you! I was worried she would never take to it after that first day, so if you find yourself committing the same blunder I did, no worries. It is possible to bring them back around. I'm so freaking happy she is using it, you have no idea. If you all have any good tips for transitioning to cycling without scaring the cat, I am all ears! I also want to repeat that putting your cat inside the LR is almost certainly a bad idea. I happened to know this worked on my cat from prior experience (pure luck, probably), but there's a reason the manual says not to. If your cat associates the Litter Robot with doing things she doesn't want to do, you lose the battle of wits and you'll be boxing the thing up and wishing you hadn't done that. If you MUST do as I did, maybe try the other steps I did first and see what kind of results you can get with them before upsetting your kitty.
