would you eat dog food (dry kibble style) for humans?
okay, so, the idea of like a very nutrient-dense kibble-esque dry food pebble really appeals to me. like, if someone made a bunch of veggies and chicken and rice, then combined and dehydrated it into a powder, then somehow compressed that into a pebble like cereal (or dog food), that would be something that would really do it for me. dry textures are like incredibly safe and pleasant for me. does anyone else feel this way?? would any of yall be keen for human kibble?? please tell me i'm not alone. submitted by /u/LeoOfRome to r/AutismInWomen [link] [comments]

Adult male cat refuses to clean himself
Hi all, last year in April we adopted our neutered male cat, Electron, as an adult estimated to be 3-4 years old (but we think he’s younger than that). We live in Texas and he’s an indoor cat only. We have a suspicion he was previously someone’s pet but was rescued during a flood in Texas. My partner and I have noticed he never bathes himself. He only spot licks around his tummy or his sides. He’s not overweight and the vet says he’s healthy! He’s had his anal glands expressed twice now because he scoots across our rugs. The vet said that sometimes cats don’t clean themselves properly, but no specific reason was given. We have bathed him a few times with cat shampoo because he gets super greasy all over and matted around his tail. He tolerates the baths really well but then he still refuses to bathe/groom himself. I gave him so pets/scritches and this is what his fur looked like after. He drinks soooo much water and eats primarily dry food. His grooming doesn’t improve even with wet food. We’ve given him a tiny slabs of butter in hopes that it would help but it doesn’t. Not even churu helps. If our dog licks him, he happily takes it and doesn’t lick himself. Please help, I’m starting to develop allergies around him because he’s becoming a dust bunny. 2nd to last picture is when pet him in the way his fur is supposed to sit. TLDR: neutered male cat adopted as an adult refuses to bathe himself. Thank you so much for any insight submitted by /u/coolpupmom to r/CATHELP [link] [comments]

What dog food are we feeding our corgis?
I’ve been feeding my corgi the fanciest of the fanciest dog foods. He’s currently 5 1/2 years old and I started him on pre made raw like viva, primally pure, vital essentials, etc. To fresh foods like open farm, Ollie, to air dried food like Sundays. We honestly haven’t done kibble tbh. I’ve even done homemade recipes from Dr. Karen and Rodney Habib’s book. Recently my little guy had a really bad case of GI upset and it upset his pancreas pretty badly. This was after feeding him open farm- and we transitioned slowly about 9-10 days to be safe. And I’ve noticed that some foods make his poop really mushy (Sundays especially). I’m just wondering what everyone’s feeding their loaves. I fear I’ve fallen prey to fancy marketing lol... Especially with these boutique brands being SO expensive; it’s frustrating. I know we all love our doggos and want the best for them. I’d love to especially hear from those who have/had corgis that lived/are living longer years. Would love to know your thoughts, thanks in advance! 💖 submitted by /u/ilove_mycorgi to r/corgi [link] [comments]

Old dog poop used to turn dry, white, and crusty. What happened? Did they change ALL the food?
EDIT: Thanks for all the insights! The change in food seemed to be the obvious answer when you think about it, but then it had me wondering how seemingly all brands, all levels would “get the memo” all at the same time, especially when there’s money involved. In human food we see manufacturers do stupid things for a fraction of a penny per serving (think “high fructose corn syrup” for example). One thing I miss: it’s easier to avoid stepping in white dog 💩! submitted by /u/Zestyclose_Belt_6148 to r/NoStupidQuestions [link] [comments]

Is Purina dog chow or Purina beneful ok for little dogs?
Hello folks. I wanted to ask if dog chow is ok for little dogs? I have an 8 month Italian greyhound puppy that’s about 13 pounds, it’s likely she’ll be 13-15 pounds by the time she is 1 year old. So we will need to wean her off of her puppy food and transition towards adult dog food. I have a Sam’s Club card so I was looking at the options there, I’m thinking on getting the Purina dog chow. However, now I’m wondering if it’s suitable for small dogs? My dog’s breed is known for teeth issues, so I’m wondering if the kibble is too big for her to eat If not, should I get the dog chow little bites instead? I wanted to get the Purina dog chow because it’s a heavily researched product that’s reliable, and it’s within my budget. A 48 lb Purina dog chow bag is 0.56 cents per pound. But the 15 lb Purina dog chow little bites bag is $1.07 per pound. I know a 50 cent difference doesn’t sound like much, but I keep thinking about how it’s technically double the price. If Purina dog chow isn’t doable, is Purina beneful (healthy weight chicken recipe) appropriate for small dogs? It’s also available at Sam’s club at a decent price (0.90 cents per pound), though same issue as Purina dog chow, I’m unsure if little dogs can eat it Thank you to anyone that responds, I appreciate your feedback submitted by /u/ferrisdoe to r/DogFood [link] [comments]

My cat tried to kill himself
This is Toasty. For the past week Toasty has been hiding, refusing meals, and only licking the moisture out of his wet food. He wouldn't chew anything, and after licking the wet food dry, would go hide and sleep for 23 hours. I was beside myself. Convinced he had a brokwn tooth, or a fever, or maybe organ failure. Spent so much at the vet for them to tell me nothing is wrong with him, but he is dropping significant weight. I tried everything guys. Tuna, different flavor of cat food, changed from shreds to pate. Nothing I did made a difference, he was so lethargic and sad and looked broken. Then it hit me. He likes to drink water out of glasses. Clear, transparent glass. Last week when washing it, I dropped it in the sink and broke it, replaced it with a white ceramic bowl. Guys, he was refusing to drink water. Like at all. I have 3 dog bowls out, 1 upstairs 2 downstairs, and the cat bowl on the counter. It wasnt a clear glass and he didnt trust it, so he didnt drink it. This dude literally boycotted all water because it wasnt in his clear glass cup. There are 4 bowls of water, cleaned daily that he refused because he couldn't see through it. Because it wasnt a cup. Because it wasnt glass. I put a different, completely clear glass cup on the counter and he drank for a solid 5 minutes. I am absolutely sick. Death over suspicious vessels seems like such a wild take to me. submitted by /u/Artistic-Listen7975 to r/cats [link] [comments]

I analyzed 90+ Reddit threads to find the best dog foods
I scraped comments from 90+ posts where people asked “what’s the best dog food?” (plus some big pet and vet recommendation threads), then ran the whole pile of thousands of comments through an LLM pipeline to see which brands consistently get love vs. mixed reviews. Goal wasn’t “most mentioned,” but “most positively talked about.” Method in a nutshell: – Scraped 90+ “best dog food?” threads & pet care megathreads – Ran GPT-5 + Gemini 2.5 to extract brand names and classify sentiment – Scoring = ~70% positive vs. negative differential + ~30% positive/total ratio – Merged name variants so duplicates didn’t inflate results (e.g., “Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Skin,” “Purina Pro Plan Salmon” → one entry) + some other nerdy sentiment tweaks that I won't bore you with – Added a “Signal Score,” which mixes positive/negative ratios, upvotes, and comment quality, highly upvoted or detailed comments count more than short, low-effort ones. Would love your feedback! submitted by /u/LoneKnight25 to r/DOG [link] [comments]

The slop I have been eating every day for the last two years.
About 950 calories 110 grams of protein 35 grams of dietary fibre Edit: Since people are asking for the recipe: Ingredients 2 Onions 650g lean beef mince 1kg chicken breast 1kg mixed frozen vegetables 1kg black lentils 1) Cook the lentils by simmering in beef stock for 15 minutes (I would advise washing them first but I don’t judge) 2) While that is going cut the chicken into bit size pieces. I butterfly the breast, cut length wise into strips, cut those strips into cubes. 3) Season the chicken 4) Dice the onion 5) Brown the onion to soft 6) Add the mince and season it 7) When mince is brown add the chicken 8) When chicken is cooked add the frozen veges with some water and close the lid 9) Once the veges are steamed and finished add the lentils. 10) Leave lid off until as much liquid has evaporated off. Seasonings: salt, pepper, cayenne pepper, paprika, chilli flakes, garlic, ginger. If you want to cut out unnecessary calories ditch the onions, I added them as a treat to myself :) Edit 2: To answer some commonly asked questions Do I enjoy it? Yes. Am I autistic? Not to my knowledge. Price? About R300/$17 for 7 meals. Is this much protein bad for you? This thread has given me reason to do some research, but it seems like definitely yes. Do you not get sick of this? No. Are you jacked? Not yet. Why? This is not just protein or nutrition maxing. I enjoy cooking (although I am still in a phase of improving), I just do not like cooking every day. I am not sick of this meal. Getting all of my health goals down in one meal allows me to splurge in other meals. I do enjoy eating, I am just wired in a way that I do not have to enjoy every single meal. Do I hate myself? No. Am I a dog? Woof. Why did you make it so dry? I did not know there where other options... Why ziploc bags? Easy. Edit 3: Why are you eating out of a dog bowl? This is a cooking pot my grandmother gave me ): Are you in jail? Not yet. I AM NOT AUTISTIC OR A DOG I AM A HUMAN BOY Edit 4:People are asking why I started doing this. I got depressed and gained 20kg in less than 6 months. Then I got depressed because I was overweight. So I decided I was going to try gymmiing. Did not do it very smartly. An hour of cardio a day (incline treadmill max height big speed), 6 days a week of strength training. I ate very little. Mostly ate chicken breast - however much was needed to reach protein goal. When I had to money I would instead do biltong. Of course there were meals basically every day that I couldnt get out of. Most days I would do my best to eat only 4 chicken breasts and nothing else. I lost the weight very quickly and started chasing a number on a scale. Did not help with the being depressed part - especially as I was malnourished. Ended up hating chicken breast, I could feel myself actually getting stupid (brain fog), in the gym if I could do 20 reps in the first set I would be lucky to get 3 reps in the second. Got to a point where I just said fuck it and stopped eating healthy and gymming altogether. Gained about 5-10kg again after the fact. Then I did not like how I looked in the mirror. Decided to do things more healthily. My relationship with food, although unorthodox, is healthy now. I realize now that I was probably on my way to an ED. And do you know what stopped me from developing one? I FUCKING HATE CHICKEN.I could not do it anymore. I am now healthy and happy... Edit 5: I will not lie to you guys, the farts are bad and it is a problem. Edit 6: Autistic people are real, can be boy, and are not dogs, and I also support the gays. Forgive my poor wording earlier. Edit 7: Apparently I have succeeded in making dry soup. Did not think it was possible. Edit 8: Before I go to bed. I boil my bacon and it is FUCKING DELICIOUS AND TENDER AND CRISPY. Fuck all of you guys that are not enlightened. Edit 9: What the fuck is chilli tho? Edit 10: Turns out my meal is borderline French, Indian, American, Korean, Spanish and Dirt. 4 million dollars, but you can only eat the cheapest wet or dry dog food for 365 continuous days. You may drink only water.
You get the 4 million, tax free after the said time, but you must eat the cheapest store bought dog food. You may only drink water. You are not allowed to cook/ heat it up, prepare it in any way or garnish it. You get all your nutrients from the dog food, you may place it in a different container for social reasons. You must continue with your current life, job, social commitments etc, including Christmas, thanksgiving, birthdays whatever If anything else passes your lips aside from dog food, you lose. submitted by /u/anasannanas to r/hypotheticalsituation [link] [comments]

I know this is a really hard question, but what is the best dry food
Not a picky eater. Still under 5 months. Using fromm at the moment but would like a high quality upgrade food. Adult weight should be 50-60lb. Have been considering orijen, honest kitchen, stella and chewy, open farm, and considering using a freeze dried as a topper. I have researched many things from wrist watches to pocket knives to robot vacuums but dog food is far and away the ABSOLUTE HARDEST lol. It's crazy. submitted by /u/FantasticSandwich828 to r/DogFood [link] [comments]

My girl has decided to start soaking her food with water before eating it. Anyone else's dogs do this?
She's shown less enthusiasm to her kibble as she's gotten a bit older. One day to try and entice her I added some warm water to her kibble which seemed to work. Ever since then she's started doing what you see in the video. I couldn't believe it when I first saw it. She's literally adding water to her dry food. I was super worried it was something dental related but she still goes to town on her hard chews and plays tug of war no problem. Happily takes any hard treat I will give her. Not showing any signs of pain or distress. I think I just have a picky and smart dog? Anyone else's do anything like this? submitted by /u/thekojac to r/germanshepherds [link] [comments]

Best dry dog food for sensitive stomach?
My German Shepherd has always had digestive issues, especially on stressful days. I’ve tried a bunch of different kibble formulas but either they upset his stomach or he refuses to eat them. Does anyone here have a sensitive or anxious dog and found a food that worked? I’m looking for something clean, dry, and not full of weird fillers. quick update: Out of all the options I tried, Sundays for Dogs been the best so far. My German Shepherd actually eats it without hesitation and his stomach’s been way more stable, even on rough days. It’s not cheap, but worth it for the peace of mind. Thought I’d share in case anyone else is still looking. submitted by /u/Nice-Company5640 to r/reactivedogs [link] [comments]

Dog refuses to eat dog food (soft and dry) but will eat chicken
Our dog (14 year old chihuahua mix). Has stopped eating wet and dry dog food. Just refuses when we try to give it to him. But he’ll eat cooked chicken just fine. When we try to mix in the chicken into dog food or rice he will only try to search for the chicken and try to eat nothing else. It seems the recommendation from online is to not give into him but we are worried he is getting too skinny (this has been going on a couple weeks). We have a vet appointment set up soon, but just wondering if anyone else has seen this before and might have some advice. submitted by /u/Ltqi to r/DogAdvice [link] [comments]

What is one inexpensive food/product you would add to a dog’s diet of dry kibble?
I have an 8 year old mutt/pit bull with no current health issues. I just recently started adding liquid glucosamine to her food. TIL That the white dried dog poop on lawns of the 70s and 80s was related to excess calcium in dog foods at the time. Less commercial bone meal in todays dog food recipes makes it virtually a thing of the past.

LPT: Feeding a dog who is not interested in eating. Let him/her do tricks (sit, ..) and give the food as a treat. Most of them are conditioned to eat the food, even when they are not hungry.
One of my dogs has spleen cancer. She is on pain medication and is enjoying the last weeks that she has. Running around, barking at people and sheep and of course: a lot of love and kuddels. (> Im not keeping her alive for my sake. My vet said, he can’t put her down with clear conscience. She is agile and fit, running around barking and even jumps in the trunk without a problem) But the biggest issue, is food. She isn’t really into it. I tried different brands, dry, wet. Everything you can think of.… I mean she would still go for a slice of pizza, but boring dog food? No interested. My vet gave my a tip that I want to share: Let them do tricks and give the normal, dry food as a treat. Almost every dog is taking the treat after they did the trick. Takes time, but your dog isn’t starving. Edit/Update: The tumor had in April already the size of a honeydew melon (her weight before was 22kg/48lbs) No idea how big it is now - but her stomach isn’t able to handle a full sized meal anymore. She starts eating, going for a quick restroom break and then finishes. I really have to be careful about the portion sizes and everything that she likes, she would eat until she throws up. And than there are days where she is not eating at all. But the ‘trick treat’ works quite good. And of course I try every food that she likes on those days. But if I start with that stuff as ‘normal food’ I have no backup plan after that. So she gets treats, catfood, dogfood, human food. Just trying to get calories in her tummy. But to keep a routine for the others (i have another dog and a third on the weekend (dog from my BF)) I need to stick to some kind of routine. And your suggestions (> the muffins sound great btw) is something that I will try :) Thanks for all the replies and thoughts 🥰 submitted by /u/kleinmona to r/LifeProTips [link] [comments]
