Nice pics ! Bet that guy doesn't even have a valid fishing license ! We spent some minutes on the side of a rural Penn road watching juve eagles fussing in the air. Then landing 20ft apart. Full size but mottled juve plumage. We are still getting used to having such big raptors around. Though we do have great blue herons, and buzzards, and turkeys, not exactly small birds either.

Realistically does it matter? I purchased one a few weeks ago for 1year. I added it to my wallet and am ready in case a cop or warden of the north asks for it. But I’m wondering how rarely that ever happens. So tell me, percentage wise how often you get asked to show your fishing license? I’m also assuming it has to do with the fishing spot. A Macomb County man with a history of flouting the state's hunting and fishing laws has been sentenced to jailtime for ice fishing without a license, state officials said. Derek Dermyer, 37, of Washington Township was sentenced March 10 to 30 to 180 days in jail, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources said in a press release issued Monday. "Although rare, violators are sentenced to jail in egregious cases, like this one," said Lt. Todd Szyska, Michigan DNR law enforcement supervisor, in an email. In December, Dermyer was cited for fishing without a license and fishing while ineligible for licenses after a DNR conservation officer caught him ice fishing on Lake St. Clair, authorities said. Went fishing at Tai Tam with my valid fishing license. In 25 minutes, 15 different people came up to tell me I was breaking the law. Every interaction started with “you can’t fish here” and it escalated to “take his picture and report him!” One person even demanded to see my license like they were a cop. Here’s the thing: a 30-second Google search would’ve told all of them that yes, you can fish there with a license. But instead, they chose to spend their afternoon harassing a guy sitting peacefully with a fishing rod. The confidence with which people in Hong Kong will insert themselves into situations they know nothing about is truly something else. TL;DR: Fished legally. Hi everyone! I know this question has been asked a lot, but I can't seem to find any additional info on this. We have most of the documentation together for both my husband and FIL, and we took the advice we've seen on here to get a fishing license as a second piece of identification for my FIL. We live in Michigan and ordered the fishing license online. What we were sent has his DOB and partial state ID number, but not his name. There is a QR code on the license and we have the email which addresses him by name, but it's not on the license itself. I'm wondering if anyone has had any issue with this or if there are any other suggestions, as I don't want to submit this to only have it sent back. When my grandfather passed, I inherited his boat and his lobster license — one of the few remaining full-timers in the region. Those things are gold around here. They get passed down, bought up by big firms, or fought over in court. I wasn’t planning on using it. I hadn’t fished since I was a teenager. But the city wore me down, and grief has a funny way of pulling you back to the places that shaped you. So I came back. The boat was in decent shape. The traps needed work. I figured I’d give it a go for a season. Then, while sorting through his documents, I found it — another license. Tucked behind the official one in a crumbling envelope. Across the top: “Special Authority – Class M” It looked ridiculous. Weathered parchment instead of modern laminate. A symbol like a spiral carved into a skull. Scribbled beneath it in my grandfather’s hand: “Active. Feed it. Or fight it.” I thought it was a joke. Until I showed it to Davey. Davey’s an old-timer. Been fishing since before GPS. Three fingers missing on one hand. Drinks rum with his coffee and swears the sea is watching us. Not calm — silent. No gulls. No insects. Just the slow suck of the tide. Then my sonar pinged. I hadn’t seen it in years, but I knew the shape of a school, the arc of a big fish. This… wasn’t that. It was a massive return. Stationary. Rising. The boat shifted, gently at first. Then harder, rocking side to side. Water sloshed over the rails. That’s when I heard it — a low groan beneath the waves. Like steel twisting. Like something waking up. A claw — the size of a man — slammed onto the side of the boat and tore through the railing. I fell, smashed my head against the throttle. I barely had time to crawl when it surged onto the deck. My leg was bleeding. My ribs were broken. The monster climbed toward me, slow and deliberate, like it knew it had already won. I reached for anything — a tool, a knife, a rope. My fingers closed on plastic. The flare gun. I didn’t think. I aimed for the center of its chest and pulled the trigger. The flare exploded into its body with a wet, hissing pop. It let out this awful gurgling scream, thrashed violently, and threw itself overboard, the deck splitting behind it. I lay there for a long time. Bleeding. Shaking. Alone. I limped the boat back to shore as the sun rose. At the dock, I climbed off and collapsed. Someone called an ambulance. I told them it was a motor accident. They didn’t ask too many questions. I spent the night in the hospital. Got stitched up. Cracked ribs, gash in my thigh, mild concussion. They released me the next morning. I went straight to the boatyard. My plan was to strip everything, sell the license, burn the papers. Leave. But when I stepped on the deck, I saw the drawer open. The Class M license sat there, speckled with dried blood. I thought of my grandfather. Of how he’d kept fishing, year after year. Of what might’ve happened to this town if he hadn’t. That monster wasn’t the only one. There are others. Maybe worse. I looked out at the horizon. Fog rolling in. Then I locked the drawer, picked up my machete, restocked the flare gun, and fueled up the boat.
