I shattered it yesterday. I was burning a pile of brush and pushing up some larger pieces. The fire was hot and burning well. As I pushed in the window popped and shattered. I didn’t see a branch hit it so I’m thinking the heat is what did it. I may have just missed the branch but I don’t think so. Has any one else had this happen? Now the biggest problem is cleaning all the glass out. Chuck

My parents moved house last year. The old house had a stained glass door made by my uncle. When they moved they were happy to part with it if the new owners were keeping it, but asked that if they ever got rid of it they could let my parents know, and they'd happily pick it up to save it from the skip. The new owners agreed and said theyd be keeping it. Fast forward a few months and the door has been replaced with a brown upvc door and theres a skip out the front full of all the original features from the house, so naturally we assumed they'd just binned it. We were all really upset. Until yesterday when i was scrolling Instagram and what should cross my feed but my parents old door, now in the united states and part of an architectural salvage companies catalogue! Now we're all just really relieved that the door survived and wasn't thrown away like we thought, but also confused how it ended up there. Either the new owners sold it, or they were going to bin it and a workman rescued it. Some context: I moved into this apartment two years ago and the shower doors had what I assumed was just hard water buildup from the previous tenants. I tried white vinegar, I tried baking soda paste, I tried that Bar Keepers Friend everyone recommends, I tried a magic eraser, I tried CLR which I was genuinely a little scared to use. Everything would improve it slightly and then within a week it looked exactly the same again, this foggy milky film that made the whole bathroom feel dirty no matter how much I cleaned everything else. I had genuinley started pricing out replacement doors and looking at peel-and-stick frosted film to just cover the whole thing because I was so done with it. Last month I was in the automotive section of a hardware store getting something else entirely and I walked past Rain-X, the windshield water repellent, and remembered vaguely seeing someone mention it in a comment thread about shower doors maybe a year ago. It was $2.47. I bought it with essentially zero expectation. Applied it to the dry clean glass in small circles the way the bottle says for windshields, let it haze, buffed it off with a microfiber cloth. The glass looked clearer than I think it has looked since the apartment was built. And then here is the part that actually got me: it has now been five weeks and the doors look almost identicel to how they looked right after I did it. The water just sheets straight off. These things have been accumulating in my boyfriends door for the past few months. They’ve multiplied over time. What are they? We’re thinking maybe some sort of egg, but we aren’t sure. We live in a conservation area in Yorkshire that requires us to have a timber front door ‘in fitting’ with the houses in the area. We’re wanting a new one that gives better security, better privacy, and stained glass. We really want something that looks great, inside and out. Especially since the front door opens into the living room. We’ve been quoted just under 5k for the door (which is redwood) including frame and fitting, noting that the current door frame (white door is the current one) is weird and badly fitted, so isn’t a simple replacement. Is the quoted price super high for Yorkshire? I’ve looked at prices of London companies which were way higher. I’m in Los Angeles, CA. I paid $6K for a contractor to frame two walls and install three doors, including this sliding glass door. They used scrap 2x4s on the sides, wedged 1/2” plywood at the top, and glued the shipping block directly to the concrete at the bottom. That voided the door’s warranty. I asked them to fix it three times. Each time, they insisted it was fine and claimed the shipping block was part of the installation. Only after I mentioned the warranty did they act surprised. Now the exterior is stuccoed and the interior is finished. I’ve had two other contractors look at it. They suggested trying to carefully remove the shipping block in small sections with a multitool, replacing each piece with pressure-treated wood and sealing with silicone, to avoid tearing out the drywall and stucco. Hello everyone, was hoping for some help, when we had our sauna installed, we never took into consideration the gaps between the glass doors and underneath, please look at pictures, it seems to prevent the sauna reaching temperature and losing heat quite a bit. Could anyone recommend or link me to a rubber or silicone to use to fill the gap between the two glass panels and the top and bottom of glass door. Would greatly appreciate any help. Hello from Central Oregon, USA 🇺🇸 I just wanted to share how I build a sauna door. Costs for doors are outrageous and the quality doesn’t match that price, imo. Most I see are veneer over pine which work great but at $1,800 (1,650 Euro) I choose to build my own. You are building a sauna, you might as well build a door too. The mistakes I see on here is lots of wood and very little glass. The reverse will give you a better chance of NOT having a warped door. “Just Wrap plywood to make a door”. That’s a great low cost idea, but for me, roasting plywood isn’t my ideal sauna material. I also like the light that a glass door brings in, plus the view. Use a high quality silicone, “high heat” silicone is not necessary. Regular silicone is rated for 400 degrees and many of the high heat silicones have additional chemicals in them not suitable for sauna. Be careful with home center heat treaded (kiln dried) lumber. That lumber is often kiln dried down to 15% or so moisture content and you ideally should use 8-10%. Take extra time to dry that lumber if that’s what you plan on using. In your house next to a wood stove for a couple of months will do the trick. Only use dead flat lumber. If it’s cupped, bowed or warped, don’t use it. Order a 2-pane, tempered glass unit from your local glass provider. $300-$350 Have them give you some setting blocks for the bottom and sides. You can also just use silicone and skip the setting blocks, it’s up to you. I like to use them. Only glue one side of your mutins in case you need to replace the glass. Yes, install Silicone on both sides. You can get the silicone off with a razor blade knife but glued mutins to the stiles are permanent. The glue joint is stronger than the wood. Doweling jigs are $35. You could also use dominos or biscuits. Dowels are very strong (even without glue!) I have not had any problems with this method of construction and has been a very strong door for me, especially with the silicone. I hope it works for you too. Hi all, I think I found some 1/4" glass. My door is opening is 26" x 68" depending on how I frame it. My Sauna is small 40" x 72" with a 5.6kW heater. Does anyone have excessive heat loss with a single pain door. It looks like all glass doors are single thickness, so I doubt it is a problem. But Checking? Also The only way I can see to hinge it is with a clamp along the vertical side.
