I self checkout audit gone wrong and cost Ikea money
Tonight I did self-checkout with my 9-year-old. We rang up 60 items totaling $346.70, and at the end I was flagged for a random audit. An unfriendly employee came over and said she needed to scan 8 random items from our cart. She scanned a potholder and got an error. Her conclusion: "These weren't in your order. I need to rescan everything." I said they absolutely were. She insisted. There's no screen showing the customer what was or wasn't scanned so I had no way to push back with anything other than "I'm pretty sure." I stepped aside and let her rescan the entire cart. When she finished, the total was LOWER than what I was about to pay. I flagged it. I specifically said, "I think you missed one of the potholders." She said she hadn't and declared she properly scanned everything. I gave up, paid, and checked the receipt. Sure enough she missed one of the potholders. A few things, IKEA: * You paid an employee to audit me and ended up collecting less money. The process failed you. * You made me feel like a thief when I had scanned everything correctly. * There's no transparency. Customers and clerks should both be able to see a side-by-side of the two scans. Right now it's the clerk's word against the customer's and apparently the clerk can also just... miss things. * The initial error was a false positive. My scan was correct. The audit flagged it anyway. Random audits are fine. I get it. But a process that's opaque, unfriendly, and less accurate than the customer doing it themselves isn't protecting anyone and has only left me disgruntled. submitted by /u/telladifferentstory to r/IKEA [link] [comments]

Not sure if anyone else has shared this, but the IKEA Stockholm 2025 glass tv cabinet makes a great case for the millennium falcon! My husband and I were walking through IKEA for something else and stumbled upon this and thought maybe it would fit! I love how it makes it functional and cuter. Edit: oops I realize I shouldn’t have abbreviated to MF lol! also a lot of people are mentioning the price - the case is ~$399 USD which was a higher price for IKEA but we thought it was a good investment to make the build usable somehow. After & Before: Our fun IKEA kitchen!
At last!!! We started renovating our house (full gut reno) back in 2021, and just finally put the finishing touches on the kitchen! The house was built in the 1960s, so we wanted to nod to MCM style with the walnut cabinets, but really this entire kitchen was designed around to accommodate my coveted pink McDonalds Honey Mustard poster. I have a pretty eclectic art collection that I've always struggled to display, and I'm still working on a few more pieces for the gallery wall, but I'm really happy with the energy in this kitchen — cooking is a chore for me, so I wanted this room to feel both fun and relaxing. Sources for anyone interested! Cabinets - Ikea Cabinet fronts - The Cabinet Face (highly recommend working with them to elevate an ikea kitchen! They are great!) IKEA is on to something.
Y’all need to give this pan a try. It’s a beast. Sturdy, thick, and holds heat nicely. People are already going nuts with the IKEA carbon steel pans. This stainless is also insanely good IMO. Weighs in at 3.9 lbs which is heavy for some people but as a person with an electric range, thick pan is what I go for just to avoid warping. I’ve had my fair share of pans being too thin. I don’t have a measuring thing but I’m guessing this stainless steel is probably 3mm thick just like the carbon. Check out this SENSUELL from IKEA. I now understand why people like Ikea so much.
I spent this morning going to different furniture stores looking for a file cabinet and a bookshelf. Most of the stores didn't even carry either of those things. I started to wonder if anyone in this city carries home office furniture at all. I got sticker shock seeing the prices at at some of those places, even one's calling themselves discount furniture. I gave up and went home about a couple hours later decided to screw it, I'll make the drive to Ikea. I did so and in less than an hour I found exactly what I was looking for and paid less than I was intending to. The in-store experience was excellent. It was actually kind of fun, unlike some of the stores I went to where it just felt like the employees really wanted me to leave. Overall excellent experience. Next time I'm looking for furniture Ikea will probably be the first place I go. submitted by /u/OlleyatPurdue to r/IKEA [link] [comments]

Underrated/Overrated IKEA Products?
I'm wondering if people have items in mind that they think are either underrated or overrated. Overrated items are necessarily popular I guess so a lot of the names I have are mainstays of the catalog. There are certain ranges whose popularity baffles me a bit. Things like the PAX and BESTA for example - I just don't get it. The KIVIK is another one - I don't really understand why it evokes such excitement. The BILLY is good for what it is, but I'm not sure why it's held in such reverence. Finally, the bedding. Sometimes I'd go over to that section and just run my hand across all the hanging duvet covers at once trying to feel for one that isn't abrasive, but I never find one. Even the pure cotton ones are really harsh irrespective of the thread count. By contrast, underrated items are I suppose necessarily more obscure. I think the HOLMERUD side table is the most slept on product in all of IKEA. It's such a versatile console, infinitely stylable, and they somehow managed to make it modular. Beautiful design all around. The GRADVIS line of vases and pots is amazing yet I never see it talked about. The grey-brown vase is especially pretty. And finally, the (older) SKOGSTA bench, which very few countries seem to carry, is absolutely stunning. What I'd give to own one. Would be interesting to hear everyone else's. submitted by /u/ObliviousRounding to r/IKEA [link] [comments]

Is it just me or has going to IKEA become depressing?
Going to IKEA used to be on my one of my favorite things to do. I always looked forward to making a half day out of it and it always used to be a thing. I even went on quite a few IKEA dates and have fond memories. But lately, going there has just become an overall very depressing experience. This last visit was a total shocker to me. Not only was the place a near ghost town on a weekend, everything was replaced with screens and kiosks. It was hard to find anyone who could help me out with anything. Not because they weren't willing to, they were overwhelmed or not empowered to fix anything. And almost every answer was go to a Kiosk. And then there is the god awful checkout experience where I have to scan everything myself and use the Kiosk to build a parts list and scan that and then god forbid I forget one thing, I have to rinse repeat the whole process all over again. Even the food court was a nightmare. Same useless Kiosks that don't work, don't respond or freeze all the time, don't do proper checks on inventory (I got a chocolate cake which when I pulled up when my number was called, they didn't have any in stock and they couldn't even give me a refund there because they had no POS systems). I already knew IKEA's success was pretty much "You do everything yourself and we will give you the instructions" but this is just now a bridge too far with the kiosks and machines everywhere. Maybe I am getting old. At this rate I wouldnt be surprised if IKEA will ship me to a factory in Eastern Europe to build the parts myself for the luxury of having their furniture in my house. Never again will I purchase from IKEA again, not until unless they invest properly in people and instead of this dystopian soulless human free experience. submitted by /u/dlovescats to r/IKEA [link] [comments]

Breaking Up With IKEA After 21 Years
Dear IKEA, Our relationship has stretched over many decades. You have provided me with a Scandinavian aesthetic; cozy sheepskins; things in birch, in pine; sleekly designed, flatpack furniture that I have grown to love; meatballs and mashed potatoes and free cups of tea, when I visit your stores. Our relationship is almost longer than my marriage, but not quite. And so, it is with great angst and frustration that I have to break up with you now. I shopped online, I even visited a store via train, I sat on couches, I tried out chairs. I made decisions. Eventually, I ordered 21 items, and, although it took an extra week and thus I wasted 8 hours waiting, you eventually delivered them right to my door. I had DRAGON forks and knives and spoons! A TARVA bed, and four matching dressers! A MORABO with a chase, and a POÄNG with an ottoman! A PÄRONHOLMEN for my new yard! And two RÖNNINGE chairs to match my old NORRÅKER tables, which are amazing. But then, I set to building all the furniture, and box after box had defects. The couch had a giant issue with the leather on the left armrest. Not to mention, every time I sat down, it made a terrible cracking noise. And don’t forget the stuffing coming out the back seam. The chairs hadn’t been sanded properly, so my clothes would snag when I got up. The beautiful outdoor red bench was…not actually all that red, and apparently needs to be stored inside. The POÄNG is missing the delightful spring I remember from our first chair, bought in 2003. And no matter how many hours we sat in this newest one, the cushion would NOT conform to the chair frame, and it just looked ridiculous. The GLADOM tray table isn’t level, somehow, and every time I sit my tea on it, the tray clatters about. And the TARVA items – after getting the first dresser nearly assembled, I wound up having to get wood glue and clamps to put back together the frame – it cracked during assembly. The second dresser had some kind of machine oil all over the parts, which wrecked my shirt and left my hands reeking. There was no scrubbing it off, I tried. The third dresser was missing a chunk of wood out of the top, and had been “repaired” at the factory with a glob of wood putty. The bed frame is beginning to come apart at a corner as well, but I am keeping it because I’m desperate. And then I decided that it was time to return the damaged items. Haha, what folly. I have spent 255 minutes on actual telephone calls with IKEA. I have spent 134 minutes attempting to chat with the IKEA system. I have spent five days waiting for either delivery or pick up. That is a total of 120 hours, or technically 60 hours of “at home time” awaiting a truck to arrive because IKEA uses 12 hour delivery windows. Out of the 21 products which I have ordered, 7 of them arrived perfectly boxed but damaged from the manufacturer. I have spent $4010.92. I am asking for a refund of $3,237.95. So 6 hours and 34 minutes attempting to get somebody to come and pick up my furniture and failing miserably. In good news, 85% of the customer service representatives, I have interacted with have been amazing! But only one of them seemed to have an idea of what the problem was. Also, I did have one person via chat tell me to put the unwanted items out in my driveway, in the middle of a monsoon. I declined to do that because I really want my money back. But today, I have spoken with a lovely woman who has explained to me that everybody else was incorrect – and that due to my location, I am outside of their general service area, and I will need to wait up to 30 days to find out if they have anybody who will come and pick up the furniture and take it away. I never would’ve ordered this stuff if I thought this would happen. I have owned IKEA furniture at every house we have lived in as an adult (10 different domiciles at this point), I have been an absolute shill for how fantastic it can be. I have cried over furniture that I had to throw away because somebody broke into my house and peed on it. I have done IKEA hacks, I have organized my life with IKEA, I am sitting on an IKEA duvet cover and looking at an IKEA throw pillow, and I have spent countless hours chilling on, sleeping in, and using IKEA furniture. This is almost more difficult than breaking up with my partner of 23 years would be. Like, IKEA - you and I, we have never argued, you’re sturdy and reliable, I love your design sensibilities, and I look forward to visits to your IKEA family of stores no matter where I am on earth. But, IKEA, now this is all over. I just want the pile of broken furnishings out of my living room and I never want to think of you again. Yours truly, A brokenhearted former IKEA lover submitted by /u/travelingslo to r/IKEA [link] [comments]
