I am using tofu litter and a ubpet (well two) litter boxes. Its pretty good. I got a big metal litter tray whilst I assessed the first robot litter box (I wasnt going to buy two if the first was rubbish) and after using that, I cant go back to trays - the robot is that good even if it only lasts a few years.

Litter robot ruined my life
Hi yall I got an off brand litter robot on sale for black friday , so about five months ago ever since then i have been living in cat pee hell in his adjustment period of using the new litter box , i expected some retaliatory poop and pee , he delivered , but the app showed he was using it and i even caught him using it, but it never stopped him from peeing and pooping outside of the litter box so i eventually gave it away i put back his old litter box , same litter same spot same set up, he is still peeing on everything my bedroom carpet, the hall carpet , the laundry room mat, the entry hall rug, any and all bath-mats, hard wood floor, etc etc i’ve taken to spreading vapor rub on the doors of rooms i don’t want him getting into like the ancient jews warding off the final plague i have feliway plugins as far as the eye can see, i’ve done everything but every morning something in the common room has pee on it i don’t know what to do anymore , i dont understand the behaviour or what’s causing it, its not medical , the only thing that changed was the litter box and i gave the litter box away around new years yes i spray all the spots he pees in with enzymatic cleaner , the problem is he doesn’t care he just finds a new spot, it’s brought me to tears a few times , thinking i was ready for work and finding pee on my backpack, thinking i was ready to shower and finding pee on my bath mat , trying to relax and smelling like phantom cat pee the odd thing is he’s not different, he snuggles , he plays , he eats , he drinks all totally fine , please if anyone has any idea of how to help i have been to the vet , they’ve assured me he’s fine, they even used the word perfect submitted by /u/Keedago to r/CatAdvice [link] [comments]

Anyone else kind of hate their Litter robot?
I have been using the litter robot by Whisker for a little over a year now and I cant say I love it. Yes, not having to scoop litter is very convenient. But what I have found is that the use of plastic inside the dome was a terrible design choice because it absorbs the smell of poop and pee and its hard to get rid of. Not only that, deep cleaning it is a hassle and a half! I buy the Whisker enzyme cleaner, deodorizer bags, carbon filters, and liners and the drawer still smells like shit! The Petlibro litter box looks a little easier to maintain but I dont have another $700 to spend on it and I kind of regret spending what I already have! It would havebeen more convenient to iust keep a normal litterbox and gotten a steel pan. Is anyone else not loving their litter robot? submitted by /u/No_Profit1848 to r/CatAdvice [link] [comments]

After several years of use I can safely say the litter robot is NOT WORTH IT
After yet another flashing yellow light I am over it. I just inhaled a bunch of kitty litter dust manually resetting this thing. It's like, bro, you have one job. You spin. You don't even spin that much. I ask you, fellow users, how often are you dealing with errors per year with your device? It's smooth sailing initially - but ohh boy welcome to error hell once that honeymoon period wears off. Like, imagine if you had to deal with this many errors with your washing machine? It's a more reliable device - and it spins about x1000 more per year! And hell you probably paid less for it too! Do not buy. You will come to regret as I have. Now pray for my lungs yall. P.S. Also had a lot of issues with the cat not going all the way in, but it's hard to blame LitterRobot on that it's more that one of my cats is just a bit special. But yeah something to worry about as well if you are a perspective buyer. submitted by /u/OhManTFE to r/litterrobot [link] [comments]

Cat chose to die in litter robot
Yesterday my princess of 11.5 years passed. Nana had a rare cancer called subcutaneous hemangiosarcoma and we had to amputate her right leg in August to remove the growing cancerous lump… but the cancer most likely came back because she started fading in energy 2 weeks ago. She was my soul cat and Im blessed to have had her with me for 11 years. Shes been using her litter robot for 8 years now and she chose to go there to die- most likely due to the privacy and familiarity? I found her in there yesterday 🤧 But because it cycled it (7 mins after) it was halfway cycled so her arms were sticking through the hole. It was a traumatic way of finding her. Seeing her like that, opening the door and seeing her. Imagining so many what ifs and intrusive thoughts. Im sorry I just wanted to share. Im thankful for the safety bar sensor because I dont even want to think about what could have been. submitted by /u/madelinebai to r/litterrobot [link] [comments]

Back to scooping after 6 months of using a litter robot
Hi, I'm a "recent" cat mom with 3 cats (since july 2024) and wanted to share my thoughts on owning a litter robot/automatic litterbox (NOT THE BRAND LR), in case it helps someone. This is just a personal opinion! (Picture of the automatic litterbox in the comments) ** IM NOT TALKING ABOUT LITTER ROBOT SPECIFICALLY (WHISKER BRAND), MY AUTOMATIC LITTERBOX IS FROM SPAIN *I speak both English and Spanish, in case anyone wants to ask in Spanish too TLDR: Automatic litter boxes require a lot of effort to clean and even more to clean thoroughly. If you like to keep your house clean, are sensitive to odours and don't have much time, automatic litter boxes may not be the best option🥲 So I bought my first litter box in August 2024, the kind that is a white closed drum that rotates. At the time I had 2 cats and a regular litter tray as well (can't bear the thought of my cats having to go potty at the same time and not being able to). At first I was quite happy with the change, the robot worked perfectly and I only had to scoop one tray. But after a few months, I started hating it, because: Every time I change the bag (after 4-5 day), I also clean the surface, which means I vacuum the area where the bag was (as there is always dust or dirty sand left around) and then clean it with disinfectant wipes inside and out (having to bend down the whole time), as most of the time there is poo left on the inside surface and, if it is not cleaned, it smells bad (and it's visually disgusting). I kneel down almost every day to check that there are no traces of faeces on the walls and to check the amount of litter. It's quite easy for poo to stick to the walls if the cats have loose stools, and if this happens, even if it's not the day to change the bag, I wipe the inside with several disinfectant wipes to remove it. Every time you open the compartment to change the bag, the smell is awful. It has been contained for 4-5 days, and when you open it, it hits you in the face so hard that if you don't close it quickly, it stuns you for a while (I am very sensitive to smells, and every time I do this, I can't eat anything after because I feel like the bad smell lingers in the back of my nostrils...). It also lingers in the room where the robot is for quite a while, even if you open the window. Deep cleaning should be done every month or two, but I didn't do it for the first time until four months had passed, and it took me about an hour in the bath, at the expense of my back (I was in pain for a week afterwards). In addition, there was a horrible smell that persisted and was impossible to remove, despite using soap, cleaning vinegar and hot water. I realised that it persisted on the robot's silicone mat, as well as in the corners and grooves. My cats love to use the robot as a trampoline to reach the sink, which means that every time they climb on it, it detects that a cat has entered, and after a few minutes it starts spinning. This is a minor issue, but just so you know it can happen xd. I now have 3 cats, and for a couple of months, I've been managing with the robot and two regular litter trays. Cleaning up after them every day takes me about five minutes (and I do it twice a day), because one tray is next to the toilet and I use tofu litter, and the other is next to a bin that works perfectly for containing odours, and I only change the bag once a week. But changing the robot's bag and cleaning it every four days after I get home from work exhausts me both physically and psychologically. It takes me 15 to 20 minutes, and it's the LAST thing I want to do after a hard day's work. Maybe I'm too demanding when it comes to cleaning the robot, but I feel that for people who are sensitive to odours and have high standards of cleanliness, it's not ideal. So I got rid of the robot, replaced it with a stainless steel tray alongside the other two I already have, and significantly improved my daily life. The important thing is to use litter that clumps well and masks odours immediately. With the litter I use, the tray stays clean for a month and a half, and when it's time to empty and clean it thoroughly, it takes me 15 minutes to scrub it with a scouring pad and rinse it in the bath. Yes, I scoop every day, but as I mentioned before, it only takes me 5 minutes and, anyway, I was already doing it... I could have a robot for each cat, but apart from how expensive that would be, I don't even want to imagine the hassle of cleaning several of them on the day it was due. It wouldn't be 20 minutes, it would be 1 hour every 4 days. If you've made it to the end, I really appreciate it. To me, it means that you care about my opinion or that you're concerned/interested enough about the topic (as I was before buying the robot). Please leave me a comment sharing your opinion, questions, or simply showing your support! I'd love read them all 🩵🤍🧡 submitted by /u/OnigiriMarS to r/CatAdvice [link] [comments]

is it worth the hype? looking at the best litter robot 2026 models.
so i have three cats and i'm beyond tired of the daily scooping routine. i've been looking at those self-cleaning boxes for years but could never pull the trigger because of the price and mixed reviews. now i'm thinking it might finally be time, especially if newer models are better. i'm trying to research the best litter robot 2026 options but i'm not sure what's actually new versus just a repackage of an old model. my main concerns are: reliability (i've read stories about them getting stuck), noise level (my cats are skittish), and whether it can truly handle three cats. also, the whole litter thing—does it work with any clumping litter or do you have to buy their specific expensive kind? for those who took the plunge, which model do you have and would you call it the best litter robot 2026 contender? how long have you had it and have you had any major issues? did your cats actually adapt to it okay? i'm worried about spending all that money and then having a fancy paperweight. any honest feedback or things you wish you knew before buying would be a huge help. submitted by /u/Ogonnaya-Nangendo to r/CatAdvice [link] [comments]

Are Litter Robots *really* worth it?
Edit to add: I’m considering a Whisker Litter Robot specifically. I have heard too many stories of cats being injured or killed in knock off robots. Anyone have a litter robot? Do you love it? Do you despise it? What model? How often do you empty & change litter? Give me all the details! I have three cats & I’m heavily considering spending the money on one. The only drawback may be- I use Mochi Tofu Litter. It’s clumping, but I’m not sure if the pelleted texture would be compatible. I’m not sure if I want to just bite the bullet & buy a 5, or save some money & buy a 4. I like that the 4 has the option for the litter hopper. Anyone else happy to move on from a robot litterbox and return to box-scooping servitude, or is that just me?
We had a Popur x5 automatic litterbox for 2 years. Year one, I’d have told you I loved the thing dearly, it worked perfectly and was nice and roomy for the cats. Year two, things slowly started failing, and taking the whole system apart to try to fix it was a huuuge job for my small one bedroom apartment. Towards the end, it was just gross all the time, squishing the clumping litter and things constantly getting stuck to the cloth liner. It just felt gross to have in my otherwise tidy home. Plus, the thing took up a massive amount of floor space. Yesterday, it was finally time to chuck it and either buy a new one, or go back to a regular old box. So I set myself up a nice tidy little litter cleaning space for a fraction of the cost of a robot, and it honestly feels so much nicer and cleaner. It’s a huge box for the cat and takes up half the space the robot did. JMHO. I wanted to love the not-scooping but it feels like my little zen space when I get the litter all clean and smoothed out 🤣 submitted by /u/StonewallDakota to r/cats [link] [comments]

What are good automatic litter boxes (other than the litter robot)?
I would like to purchase an automatic litter box that isn’t a litter robot due to the insane price. Budget is around $300. I see several options on Amazon but I’m not sure if any of the options are any good. The main reason is odor control. I’d ideally like an automatic litter box that has good odor control. Does anyone have any self-cleaning litter boxes they’ve purchased where it’s been a positive experience? Introducing: Litter-Robot 5 Pro, Litter-Robot 5, Litter-Robot EVO, and more!
Hey /litterrobot community, Jacob Zuppke, CEO of Whisker, here with a big announcement today! TLDR: Introducing three new Litter-Robot models: Litter-Robot 5 Pro (with cat face identification), Litter-Robot 5, and Litter-Robot EVO. Awesome new app features. And the introduction of Whisker+. For all of the product features, see our press release here or visit Whisker.com Important: We have not gated, and will not gate, any previously free features in the Whisker App 🐱 We are also bringing back historical data downloads for users who do not want Whisker+ but still want to access their historical data history via CSV. Coming early 2026. Subscription or not, our free Whisker App will remain free, and we’ve supercharged the free Whisker App roadmap for 2026 and we’re excited to share more with you in the coming months. Regarding our new premium features with Whisker+, they are primarily focused on features with more compute, like CatID facial recognition, video storage, triggered notifications, longer data history, Litter-Robot EVO smart enablement, and more. Before reading our press release or visiting our new website, I wanted to share a moment of gratitude: I’m deep in this community. In the threads. In the comments. In my DMs. I listen to all of you. Me, personally. Not an assistant. Not an AI. If you tag me, I read it. All of it. I don’t always respond, but I do always escalate those threads internally to our CX and product teams to ensure everything is seen by a human being at Whisker! You all have converted me from a non-Reddit user several years ago, to a daily user, receiving email updates and push notifications throughout the day. I love it. This community makes me better as the CEO of Whisker. It makes our teams better. And it makes our product better. You inspire us to continue delivering better products every day. Thank you for your community involvement. We look forward to continuing to learn from each of you. Keep it coming! Go to the new Whisker.com to see the full lineup! NOTE: Download full history (beyond the current one month) was removed in 2024 because the feature was too much load on the app and delivered a bad user experience. We heard your feedback and it's now on our roadmap to bring back to all users for free via CSV download in early 2026. submitted by /u/CatPoopMan to r/litterrobot [link] [comments]

Litter Robot 5
They even adopted the naming from phones. Main updates are the two camera system, a slight bigger waste drawer and the LCD screen. It recognizes if’s it’s poop or pee to determine how quick to cycle. Also has Ai facial recognition to see which cat used the litter robot. Just realized that the streaming function of the camera is limited to 5 minutes per day without the Whisker+ subscription. Whisker+ is $79 per year. submitted by /u/Sky9299 to r/litterrobot [link] [comments]

Litter Robot saved my cat’s life.
Back in May, my cat Tyr started going to the box frequently and because I could monitor his usage through the app, I was able to provide his vet time stamped proof. I caught it so early his vet couldn’t see any stones in his bladder yet, just sediment. We did a diet change, added gabapentin to his routine, and all was well until he started visiting frequently again; this time with blood in his urine. His vet took a urine culture and recommended keeping an eye on him for the time being. Two days later he fully obstructed. After five days in the hospital he was sent home and everything was fine until he started going to the box frequently again. I rushed him to the vet again, and his bladder was very full and he was obstructing again. Finally, his doctor saw the stones on the ultrasound this time. We decided on a very aggressive form of treatment since he’d obstructed twice already and I’m so glad we did. He has (had?) abnormally small male anatomy and he’d have continued obstructing again and again, it was just a matter of time. Fingers crossed, he’s two weeks post op, out of his cone, and only visiting the box every 4-6 hours again. I’d never have caught this so early had it not been for the app and would not have been so proactive in his treatment. It’s silly to say a litter box saved my sweet boy’s life, but it definitely gave me the info I needed to catch it early. I lost another cat to the same thing almost fifteen years ago and I’ve never forgiven myself for not catching it before he was too far gone. If I’d had this litter box, I know I could have caught it before it was too late. submitted by /u/One_Science8349 to r/litterrobot [link] [comments]

Litter “Killer” Robot. (This is not an advertisement. It’s a warning.)
Hey yall, this is not meant to talk down to anyone who has the automatic litter boxes. I have just recently stumbled upon the fact that some of these automatic litter boxes are actually killing cats. This is not about the actual “Litter Robot”. From what I can tell it’s a certain company that uses the name Llitter Robot” but it’s not the actual one. Another name they use is “Amztoy”. I will not go into details of what has happened to the cats. But please, please, please, look at what you are buying before getting them. The stories I have heard are upsetting. Look up YouTube “One Man Five Cats” and his video “The DEADLY self-cleaning litter boxes that have flooded the market” he uses a stuffed animal to show you what happens if the cats neck is in the opening for to long. They are paying to have negative reviews removed. I would hate for another cat to become a victim to the “Killer Robot”. Stay safe out there!! 🐈⬛🐈⬛ submitted by /u/Striking_Wrangler851 to r/CatAdvice [link] [comments]
