We moved into a new home recently and I am really not happy with how our living room looks. It feels bland, outdated and unfinished. The sofa is a light green but I feel like the coolness of the color with the overhead lights makes it look gray which I hate. The other areas of our house have warmer colors with brass hardware and and green accents and this feels out of place. My thoughts on what might help so far are: -Lamps, but I have been looking for months and can’t decide. -New accent chairs that are curved / round to soften the space, preferably in a darker colour (we have a small child). Maybe in a caramel or rich brown? -Blanket and new throw pillows. -New pot for the snake plant or move the whole thing. -New dining room table, but not sure what would look good. -New art for above the fireplace, but not sure what would look good. The art on the frametv is easy to swap. Unfortunately we don’t have the budget to do renovations right now so we are probably limited to changing up the decor. I've been trying to decorate the house for a while now, and I'm having a lot of problems with the living room. Starting with the fact that the ceiling was wooden, I painted it white (I don't know if it was the best choice). I put dark wood on the floor and bought a brown suede sofa bed. The problem comes with the wallpaper I insisted on putting up because I did it by hand, and I'm not sure whether it's the texture or the gold. I tried to adapt it by buying the rug, cushions, and table (I'd like to keep the table and rug), but I still wasn't convinced. I added molding to one wall and painted it etched, just like the furniture (the furniture is for a built-in electric fireplace). Oh boy oh boy, it's been a minute! In the past two weeks or so, I've made some decent progress on the room. The changes are as follows: MINI FRIDGEEEEEE (stocked, I swear I'm not 5 years old 💀) Posters! TEXAS FLAG RAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Some drawings I hung up on the wall Whiteboard (I wrote one of my favorite quotes on there, guess whose quote it is!) Wall Shelves Mini Plant Some adhesive wall hooks which I used for my hats, a jacket, and a bag My figurine collection (which I brought from my old apartment in Mexico) Alexa device (also from my old apartment) Wall outlet extender/shelf/night light Shoe Rack Tension Rod for hanging clothes in my "closet" area Various other small decor pieces Cleaned up my AC unit Oop! Can't forget the plushie my girlfriend gave when I visited! :D SORRY for taking a while to update on my situation, I got caught up with my life and things of that sort. I had been doing lots of thinking and contemplating. I've managed to come to some conclusions. I have decided to stop smoking entirely. I knew I couldn't smoke forever, so why not stop now? I have already started to feel the effects, so I want to take care of it while I still can. To top that off, I am also stopping alcohol and watching adult content. I also realized I have been doing jack crap exercise wise, which is why I started going back to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. There is a school real close by and the price was not bad, so I joined up recently and have been attending classes. It had been about 3 years since I trained (basically), but I'm so glad I am getting back into it. Basically, I just want to be a better man. Someone I can be proud of. I also want to make something of myself. But at times I get so lost in the whirlpool of this world, I just don't know which way to go. But there is this one thing that keeps calling me back... don't I had messed around with the idea of making video games for a while, ever since I was in high school. I even attended college for a short period of time for video game programming. But school just never sat right in my stomach, and I always seemed to just give up on the idea. What I was doing for a short lived amount of time was YouTube vlogs and stuff, but I've come to find I dont really like it. I would much rather write a book of my life (which I will do at some point), or talk on my own blog style podcast (currently doing this), than record every second of my life. But what if I combined the two ideas into the best of both worlds? I could start recording my journey to becoming a video game programmer/developer and upload the videos to YouTube. Then, when my games get released I already have a fanbase ready to play them. This way, things are less intrusive into my life, I would just let my reddit profile, podcast, and future book take care of all my personal life story details. Anywho, GIANORMOUS THANK YOU TO EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU!!! I really appreciate all the love, support, and advice you guys have been giving, it goes to a special place in my heart. To have built a community of sorts is astonishing, and I still can't believe what has happened. I truly do hope my journey has served as something others can use as hope for themselves. I have been through hell and back so many times, and I just want to say, It does get better. There is always a light at the end of the tunnel. Use that light to guide your next step and then the next. Never stop moving, I don't care if you are moving just a little, JUST DON'T STOP. Imagine the worst thing you have ever experienced. Now tell me, did you get through it? Did you die? Did the world explode? Now, give me one reason as to why you can't keep pushing forward, given the fact that the worst thing to ever happen to you hasn't stopped you yet... This is my last post on this subreddit. I think the room has come along very nicely and I don't see much more that it really needs or requires. HOWEVER, I will still be posting to reddit to update about my life and whatnot. Me (M36) and my partner (M38) have 2 kids Luke (M18) and Jay (M15). Some background info : We took the boys under our care when they were 8 and 11. Before they came with us they had been in different families/ group homes for over a year. It was hard for luke to understand that they were with us for good and that he had his own bedroom and family. Me and my partner know that he stills sometimes has insecurities about it and a recent one was about him leaving for college. We explained to Luke that even if he was 18 and leaving the house he would still have a room and place at home, be it now or in 10/25 years. That he would still be our kid at 40 and we will always be here for him. Now the issue. My cousin (F42) recently broke up and needed a somewhere to live for her and her two boys (M16/M12). Me and my partner have a house big enough and we agreed to host them free of charge for 6 months until she gets her bearings back. For the house me and my partner have a kind of master bedroom with our bedroom, bathroom and office. Our boys have their own room and they share a bathroom and my cousin’s boys have the guest room with a bathroom. My cousin has a room on the ground floor, it’s not big but she has the space for a bed, a desk and a wardrobe. Last week we got the keys for Luke’s flat and we started the process of furnishing it, he will offically move in next week and will start uni the week after. This week end my cousin asked when Luke’s room will be empty. I told her that it will not be, that he will only take his clothes, books, decorative items… basically his room will stay the same and he will take only what he wanted. She then asked how she will be able to move in the room with all his stuff still here. I told her she won’t, that it will still be his bedroom. He will still come home on some week ends, holidays… She then complained about the fact that she was living in a « storage room », that she was the only one without her own bathroom and that it was unfair of us to have an empty bedroom in our house and not give it to her. Me and my partner were very firm in our decision but my mom and aunt called and told me that it was a bit unfair of us to not offer proper accomodation for my cousin and that Luke could do without a room for a few months now that he has his flat for the school year. I disagree, for me it’s more than a bedroom it’s what it represents. It’s his own place for him in our home and it’s something I want him to have for as long as possible. I m32 met my wife 3 years ago. We got married 9 months ago. We have a baby boy together that she got pregnent with while we were engaged. My wife used to be a s_x worker. No judgement on that please! She did what she had to do to survive. My parents were always being "skeptical" about her and lot of times asked if I wanna settle down with her. When she got prengnent, they went nuts and demanded a dna test. They refused to attend the wedding til the dna test was done which caused a huge problem. They ended up missing the wedding obviously. The test was done BECAUSE my wife wanted to prove a point and eventually my parents made ammends and we reconciled. They started visiting and yesterday noticed the photo of the dna test that I hang in the living room. They asked about it and I told that it serves as a reminder for why they didn't attend my wedding, they were stunned and livid when I mentioned that I tell any guest the same thing I told them. Mom and dad were mad and asked me repeatedly to take it down saying I'm being too harsh on them and refusing to let go of the past as well as embarrassing them to the other family members. I refused to take it down and I admit being sarcastic in my response saying "it goes with the hoise decor!." They begged then refused to come over anymore til I remove it. My brother thinks it's petty and childish and said I should take it down. Alright I'm editing some stuff in. First of all, my wife does not mind having the photo up , she laughs about it sometimes but she's still carrying some hurt that was caused by what happened. And second of all, no, she no longer does s_x work it's all in the past. And did I mention that my brother and I aren't close? He's known as the "crackhead" in the family!
