I’ve found Apple AirPod Pro v3 AMAZING for noise cancellation on noisy commutes or “double bag” it with over he head, ear defenders and noise cancelling one headphones underneath as I’ve done around extreme noise. For sleep I use Alpine earplugs.

Hey guys, I work remote so I move around a lot and I was browsing Reddit to see what people here suggest for good ANC headphones. I need smth that can block noise pretty well cuz I'm often in noisy environments. I just want smth comfy for long work sessions and solid noise canceling. Originally posted to r/AmItheAsshole Original Post May 8, 2023 Forward: I'm pretty certain I'm the asshole, family agree I'm in the wrong, but one friend is saying I'm not. Also even if I'm not the asshole, my wife isn't either, she's an incredible mum, amazing wife, and the love of my life. Me (33M) and my wife (30F) have a little baby (0.25F) who for the mostpart is a chill and happy little thing who makes our world shine. But as with any baby she cries and sometimes a lot. I'm diagnosed autistic and as a result have some pretty severe sensory issues particularly around sound, and particularly when I'm tired. I have noise cancelling headphones which are a godsend so I started wearing them when I found her crying too overwhelming, particularly when I get up at night with her. To clarify, I can still hear her crying and I don't put them on so I can ignore her crying. Quite the opposite, I wear them so I can hold her without feeling overwhelmed. Also it's just her being a baby, not a medical thing. Most of the time she's a joy, I love our 2am feeds when it feels like nobody else in the world is awake except us, enjoying the stillness and solitude. I love her so much. My wife hates it and has asked me to stop. She said that being a parent involves having to cope with the bad stuff, it's what we signed up for and that it's important not to block out her crying so I can feel what our daughter is feeling. She also said that it probably scares our daughter to see her dad with stuff on his head when she's at her most distressed. What she said makes a lot of sense so I stopped wearing them and handled the resulting meltdowns afterwards. But when I was talking to a friend he said that's an unreasonable demand, I'm not a bad dad and my needs with my disability matter too. After a lot of talking she said she felt angry and frustrated that (in her view) I was breezing through parenthood while she feels like she's drowning. My amazing wife, the best mother I could ever imagine for our daughter, the woman with seemingly boundless love and care felt like she's failing as a mother. I wish she could see herself the way I see her just once. Part of me feels like I've failed her for not noticing how she was feeling, I think I was so caught up in my own joy that I missed her suffering. Obviously we're not in a good place right now but we're going to talk to the health visitor about getting her the help she needs and what's available so she can get better but it sounds like PPD from what we've read. In the mean time I'm going to work from home 2-3 days a week once my manager has sorted the insurance out so she's not alone as much (the plan was for me to take the last 20 weeks of parental leave anyway), I'm going to book a session with my therapist, and the headphones are back. For both of us. She tried them a few days ago and said how much calmer and in control she felt, and how our daughter settles so much quicker. We have some family staying with us for a funeral right now. We only have one guest room which my aunt and uncle took. My other aunt and uncle slept downstairs in the living room. It was decided that all their 5 kids would sleep in my room since it has the most floor space for air mattresses and it's own bathroom so kids could go pee easily. They're all little so I guess the hallway and the living room with the big glass doors was too scary at night. I wasn't a fan of this idea, but I didn't have a choice. I have a loft bed thought so I had a little private space to myself. I don't go to sleep as early as them so I was up in my bed playing video games. Around 11pm someone turned on the lights. When I took of my headphones I heard one of the kids screaming. I didn't really get what was going on, but my aunt and uncle took her out of the room. My mom and my other aunt got all the other kids to quiet down and go to bed. So I went back to my game and eventually fell asleep. The next morning I find out that the cousin that was screaming had been trying to get my attention because she needed to pee, but was too afraid to use my bathroom because someone had turned off the light that was supposed to be left on for them. She saw that I was awake and was trying to ask me for help. When I didn't answer her she tried climbing up the ladder to my bed. She fell and ended up dislocating her arm. Everyone wanted to know what happened and why I didn't help her. I said I didn't hear her because of my headphones. Everyone started ganging up on me saying I should have known better than to wear noise canceling headphones since I baby sit. My uncle is the most angry and said that I need to learn to use my fucking head. But I babysit older kids and no one even said I was babysitting so I don't think it's fair for them to say it's my fault. ​ Update: I told my dad about them all blaming me when he got home and he told them it wasn't my fault or responsibility.
