RE:Storage ideas?
Have a drawer in my sewing room dedicated to the syringes, needles, etc. Got a small sharps box which fits in too and will take lots of discarded stuff safely. Keep my ampoules in their original box in the same drawer with a small cloth over it to ensure no light gets in, but if it gets really hot I wrap and put in the top shelf of the fridge.

I have one of those. It is the first semi auto I ever shot. Snuck it out of hiding spot in mom's sewing room. I would pay $150 for that, but it's probably worth twice or three times that if given the loving other posters (above) suggest. My cat swallowed a sewing needle
Stampy cat EDIT: the story. One day my mum was sewing and left the room to take a phone call. She came back and couldn’t find the needle or thread. I had seen him playing with a piece of thread earlier and assumed it was nothing serious, but we couldn’t find the needle so we pieced it together and took him to the vet. At the emergency vet we got quoted $4000 just to get the x-ray, so we were gonna put him down. Fortunately we decided to wait until we could get him into our normal vet which was only a day later and they did the whole operation for $1300. Plus the emergency vet consultation fee was $500 alone. 💔 (The prices were all in AUD, so it is significant. 4000AUD = 2817USD, 1300AUD = 919USD and 500AUD = 352USD) But he’s fine now! submitted by /u/CraziiLemon to r/cats [link] [comments]

I overestimate my sewing ability
I already bought the fabric (it’s none stretch) I think it’s satin. And I also brought all the supplies I need like the corset. And the issue is I have two weeks to make the dress itself but the only thing I’m struggling with is how to do what the video is showing you. Please help me out. I feel like it looks simple but I’m not sure how to attach the fabric to the corset itself and then on top of all that add a zipper. Please help me out My mum bought me nearly 4 meters of the fabric and it cost her a lot. I don’t want to disappoint her submitted by /u/Responsible-Salt5399 to r/sewhelp [link] [comments]

My first real sewing project - a Floor Couch (and yes, I'm a total beginner!!!)
I only had very basic sewing skills before this. I knew how to use a sewing machine... but that was it! Then I kept seeing this couch that would be perfect for our home, and I kept telling myself, “How hard can it be?” I bought mattresses and shredded memory foam (for the pillows), and everything else is MADE BY ME! Not just a lot of fun, but I also saved a ton compared to the retail couch - 50%! submitted by /u/AdCultural4499 to r/crafts [link] [comments]

In China, a factory worker Bao's upside down sewing mistake has created China's best selling toy ahead of this Lunar year and has been rewarded with an annual bonus of 8,888 yuan (1,230 USD) for the next 12 years (till 2038, completing full 12 year zodiac cycle)
A red horse toy produced by 'Happy Sister' in the city of Yiwu in the west of China was meant to wear a broad grin, but a factory error meant it hit the shops sporting a despairing grimace. Because the smile was placed upside down, the horse’s nostrils could be interpreted as tears. Despite the manufacturing error, the toy has become an unexpected success with shoppers after going viral on Chinese social media and capturing a zeitgeist of corporate fatigue and worker burnout. It also taps into a broader trend for so-called “ugly-cute” toys, popularised in recent years by characters such as Pop Mart’s toothy monster Labubu. “People joked that the crying horse is how you look at work, while the smiling one is how you look after work,” Zhang Huoqing, owner of Happy Sister, told Reuters. By mid-January she said she was receiving daily orders of more than 15,000 units, prompting the factory to open up 10 additional production lines. Everything I made in my first year of sewing in 2025
Here’s every garment I made in my first year of sewing in chronological order, except for a few placemats and a tote bag which I don’t have pictures of that I made right at the start! I had no prior experience with sewing except for maybe a cushion in textiles class when I was 13 in school which I found a bit of a bore back then. This is a clean year of sewing from January up until the end of 2025 as I got a sewing machine the Christmas before this one and pretty much got caught up in a frenzy of sewing immediately! Amazingly I made everything I set out to make for myself right at the start and even made a full circle of making Christmas presents for everyone I know this year (which was a bit crazy, never again)! I definitely chucked myself in the deep end by making that ballerina wrap top as my second full piece, I had no idea Jersey was an advanced fabric so I guess my ignorance lead me into deep waters right away! Now I find it crazy I used straight stitches for the whole thing as I was wondering why the seams weren’t stretchy 🙈 I’ll definitely have to revisit that pattern in a cotton jersey as I’m a little bit obsessed with natural fibres now! Cotton gauze is one of my favourites and I think my boyfriend is a fan too so lots of shirts await! I still have so many more plans for this year and I’m planning to go crazy with natural fibres, it’s my dream to get rid of all the polyester in my wardrobe, including leggings and other activewear which I’m not really sure if it’s possible in my budget 😭 but I can still dream! All project details will be in the comments submitted by /u/chloemal to r/sewing [link] [comments]

Everything I made in my first year of sewing as a total beginner (and goodbye)
Here’s every garment I made in my first year of sewing in chronological order, except for a few placemats and a tote bag which I don’t have pictures of that I made right at the start! I had no prior experience with sewing except for maybe a rather pathetic cushion in textiles class when I was 13 in school which I found a bit of a bore back then. I’m also saying goodbye to this sub as it appears the mods have been removing my early posts from a year back now for ‘shameless self promotion’ where I was clearly looking for help with seam waving, then accusing me of linking videos where I linked only the pattern I used and then backtracking to saying one of the fifth garments I ever made (the pink bias dress) do not belong in this sub. So thank you for all your encouragement and advice here, it made starting this hobby so much more exciting and meaningful! You’re such a positive and healthy community like nowhere on Reddit! I still have so many more plans for this year and I’m planning to go crazy with natural fibres, it’s my dream to get rid of all the polyester in my wardrobe, including leggings and other activewear which I’m not really sure if it’s possible in my budget 😭 but I can still dream! I Sewed a Wool Coat Lined in Silk Satin for My MIL'S X-Mas Gift
I decided to make my mother in law a casual wool coat for Christmas. I did do a mockup and had her try it on with her eyes closed so I could correct any fit issues. The pattern is the Car Coat by Wardrobe by Me. The fabric is a wool herringbone from Surge Fabrics and the lining is some stretch silk satin from Cali Fabrics. I used a rayon fusible weft interfacing for soft tailoring structure. My sewing machine balked at doing buttonholes on my sample, so I ended up doing bound buttonholes for the project. The pattern pieces for the button placket interfacing ended up too narrow for bound buttonholes, so I had to piece in some extra interfacing there. I also installed a hanging chain to elevate the coat a bit. The pattern itself was excellent with a really lovely drafted lining with facings. I also used clear buttons to back the buttons on the interior for a bit more longevity. I interlined the silk satin lining for some extra warmth as well. I ended up not using the included pocket flap pattern pieces and just left the welt pockets as-is. I also hand invisible stitched all the hem facings to the coat, which I am really proud of. Overall, many mistakes were made. I prewashed and preshrunk the wool, but still had some shrinking when I was ironing during construction, so I had to recut a couple pieces that shrunk too much. I also had a prewashing disaster with the silk because the red print bled all over the white background, and had to do an aggressive multi-step rescue wash to get the dye bleed out. But alas, it worked and everything came together in the end. If I could correct one issue, I wish I had just interfaced both entire front pieces and the back yolk. There was so much interfacing already with the plackets and pockets that I feel like the non-interfaced bits sag in comparison. Overall though, I'm fairly happy with the outcome. I can't help to zero in on all the flaws I know exist, but I'm hoping they aren't obvious to her. Here's hoping she likes the coat! submitted by /u/insincere_platitudes to r/sewing [link] [comments]

I don’t sew but I make patterns
Hi I just wanted to show you a technique I use in the trades to create quick patterns that are flexible. I’m working with leather so adhesives have not been an issue. Beware of creating too many creases. I suspect this technique works better on stiffer material. I hope you don’t mind I show off what I made, and what I’m making. submitted by /u/FlounderLegitimate to r/sewingpatterns [link] [comments]

Sent my sewing machine in for service and came back with this…
Ok let me preface this by saying I have had sewing lessons. My first job was doing alterations at JCPenney. All of this was almost 40 years ago. I have not seen a sewing machine since then and the one I had at the time was older than me, and I’m old. So when I bought a Bernina activa 135 patchwork edition for $180 off a cop in the parking lot of a jail off Facebook marketplace… I had never used a sewing machine this advanced before. So I’m immediately having trouble with it and I’m doing all the things I KNOW to do. But I’m having these tension issues and it’s giving ME tension issues so I take it in for service. I am an aspiring new quilter. That means I bought a jelly roll on clearance at Michael’s and I’ve been “practicing” making a quilt by trying to actually make a quilt but with all the fouled up mess I guess the technician who worked on my machine thought they were “scraps I was testing it on” I mean… I get it… but I was just trying to show an example of what it was doing. I planned to rip out and continue making the quilt. But he sewed all the way through it and I LOVE IT!! Not as a quilt anymore obviously because I’m not ripping all that out but I had NO IDEA sewing machines did all this. And the technician, reminding me again how old I am, said this one is old. But I’m so old back when I used sewing machines they sewed a straight line, a button hole and a zig zag… these stitches are awesome! How are these useable in quilting? (TLDR I am in love with these special stitches! How do you use them?) submitted by /u/DontTripOnMyNips to r/quilting [link] [comments]

Don’t Bother Asking for Help in the basic “Sewing” sub I Guess
DISCLAIMER: I’m not telling you to leave this sub if you’re in it. I’m not telling you to message this mod team. I’m telling you all this you so you don’t have to deal with the same rude ridiculousness. I tried to post in the og Sewing subreddit, looking for a pattern that I can’t find “available to purchase” and the robot kept taking my post down. I kept trying to figure out what I did wrong and couldn’t. So I messaged the mods for help, seeing how every other mod team I’ve ever messaged was very kind and helpful. This mod decided to be rude and assume I was trying to purchase from the other people in the sub all because I used the phrase “I can’t find this pattern anywhere where I can actually purchase it”. I already completely understood that sub has no buying or selling rules before posting. I was not asking to purchase from other redditors. I was asking if anyone knew where I COULD purchase it PROPERLY. So rude and disrespectful to immediately assume I’m “trying to work around the bot with my wording”. Clearly I had no clue you can’t even say the words “Buy/Purchase” when talking about wanting to purchase a pattern from the source. What else was I supposed to say? I know without a doubt that the mod didn’t even bother looking at my attempted post. If they had, they would have immediately understood what was going on with the robot and could have told me what to properly write. They would have immediately seen that I wasn’t trying to purchase from other redditors, and that I was listing the sites I had already found the pattern (unavailable) on to avoid wasting other people’s time searching. submitted by /u/hotdogwater-jpg to r/sewingpatterns [link] [comments]

I'm giving up sewing.
I've been sewing for 6 years and I've made 1 wearable piece. And when I put it on I hate the way it looks on my body. I've attempted so many projects multiple times to come to the conclusion that it's to hard, that I'm not ready well if after 6 years I'm not ready then when will I ever be. I started this hobby to make unique clothing to fit my query body shape, and I can't even make a t-shirt after 6 years I can't make a t shirt. I throw so much money at fabric for everything to come out like garbage. I've lost all passion for it it use to be I can't wait to finish a project or see how it comes out to how am I gonna screw this one up. No matter how many article, video, or books I read I can't get anything right. submitted by /u/Altruistic-Train3600 to r/sewing [link] [comments]
