reccomended not gonna lie so i am gonna stfu and let the battle continue thank you for coming to this ad break and my ted talk but first here is the second ad: Here 👏👉 at doulingo, we 😀👦 know 🤔👅 that JIM THE DISHWASHER PROPHET HAD SPENT AN ETERNITY SCRUBBING THE FILTHY PLATES OF REALITY WITHOUT EVER ACTIVATING HIS CURSED TECHNIQUE BUT AT THE PRECISE NANOSECOND GOONSTRONG SURRENDERED TO THE TRENDS THE RESIDUE OF THAT UNSPENT DEGENERACY FLOWED DIRECTLY INTO JIM'S GOON-SOAKED SOUL GRANTING HIM THE "SPATIAL RECOGNITION OF THE NON-EXISTENT 18TH GLYPH OF THE CANYON OF RIZZ"!!!! IN THIS TRANSCENDENT STATE JIM DOES NOT MERELY CLEAN THE DISHES HE WIPES THE VERY CONCEPT OF 'UWU' FROM THE AKASHIC RECORDS OF THE REDDIT SERVERS AS HIS "ETERNAL SANCTITY OF THE STERILIZED BASIN" OVERWRITES THE BRAINROT WITH THE COLD CLINICAL SHINE OF A PERFECTLY DRIED CERAMIC SURFACE!!!! BY FORGOING THE ABILITY TO SPEAK LIKE A NORMAL HUMAN BEING JIM HAS MAXIMIZED HIS CURSED ENERGY OUTPUT TO THE POINT WHERE HE CAN NOW DISMANTLE ANY ARGUMENT WITH THE SHEER " SIGAM AURA" OF A MAN WHO HAS REJECTED BOTH HUMANITY AND LITERACY TO BECOME THE SUPREME JUDGE OF THE KITCHEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111!!1 But lowkey foids should go to the dishwasher not bro but george droyd with his fent reactor just gave bro boosts and goonstrong l ratioed the dishwasher prophet to the sand then the bomb iran bomb just dropped a bomb which landed precisly on goonstrongs goon arm this caused socrates to ask goonstrong a question which caused his guts to gain sentience and start speaking like a new yorker ordering precisely 67 slices of ham from the deli to make a subway sandwich he then used that subway sandwich to sword fight the dishwasher prophet in a nweryr3vbliqo3gf xil13 tiue ygertiywei eraue gqyd aeg g yofehg ef ieru gew iuer uiewf iwe ruer fwe ff hqwgrw rhwf huer uhrw ete8yr848r8 y932g 8y97 83r2 8eg8 9y2r89 fr 89e 78f e8 w8e979fwe 0h 89rq 89geh oq gywgr auis god ufhug hua igufu sd uiu f huiwe giwe ioh urfh uiew giwe gide iuge ydg giedg ied gyie gidy gie gide ygd e ge d d d giddidididididi sounds alot like quagmire but we are not adult swim diddly blud ok so goonstrong slipped on a banan peel and stabbed the dishwasher prophet with a british posioness nife but even that posioned jim and he was then chased by 9999999 unpayed tax reforms from donald tangerine orange man goonstrong took advantage of the moment and started gooning but gooning was no longer an option as his dihh was stolen by a steal a brainrot player at 3am bro just diddnt know it yet then bro got sniped and got we are masterdebtored 67 times but bro still has plot armor for no reason so jim the dishwasher prophet called popeyes chicken and lured in the entire hood to fight the cops whom he lured with donuts this caused the dishwasher prophet to gain a stage five wanted level in gta5 where franklin showed up to defend his home and yeeted george droyd into goonstrong and goonstrong ran out of goon material on deviantart and the goon playlist was gone so he lowkey like france just white flagged gave up not before nuking kim john un again for the luls on instagram frfr ong then the goon king kim john un said bro thats it no more wifi and unplugged the router this caused oseama been lagging and the entirety of tiktok to betray jim the dishwasher prophet by hitting the griddy and lying about his rizz next to the nearest waffle house serving floor baconed grimace shake piss and shitt sink jim exploded and then got executed in the city called goonhala by the gooners a random beta male just stabbed jims dead body and holy sigma blood fell on him he became an alpha male sigma preacher for baseplatanism although all he said was "call your friend who is friends with a rich guy who is friends with epstiens family who is friends with diddy who is friends with trump who is friends with epstien and ask epstien and the entire 67club to nuke and brutally brutally diddle the child with baby oil and 6769420 foot diddling sticks" and "dont be a racist be like mario hes italian made by japanese speaks white looks like a mexican jumps like a black man and takes coins like the good jew he is" then jim the dishwasher prophet became jesus for no reason and goonstrong just became a fucking legendary myth and then we used his death as propaganda during the 4th great grease war but due to copyright we had to call propganda the n word dont ask why here is the logs: "But in existence is a option that bypasses this dilemma, which is the avoidance of that specific symbol in the anglophonic lexicon so as to not mandate its use and thus also sound extremely posh. What do you all think of my ability to make sentences without the use of that specific symbol in the English lexicon? Am I of the magnificent peoples who speak the tongue of all who be at the head of kingdoms?" "Greetings fellow Copypasta writer, perhaps may I ask how may you fare?" "I myself am not attempting to make a copypasta, rather I am trying to avoid the 18th glyph in the english lexicon as my input method's key for that symbol, so so as to not sound 'uwu' I am avoiding the use of it by this whimsical method." "Quite a very intriguing linguistic challenge! I am thoroughly amused by this deliberate act of banning the eighteenth symbol of the fine keyboard. Such dedication in this perilous pursuit to avoiding the emoticon 'uwu' is highly commendable and I mean highly." "I wonder... why use lot word when few do trick?" "This is, again, because I do not want the childish sounding language of the 'uwu', so I follow this lengthy method of using the English language." "My oh my. It is a fine specimen of man specifically the branch of mankind we label homo sapien yet I am quite amused how one homo sapien conjured enough cranium power to construct such a message on such a complex realm we call Reddit." "3 new mods have been added." "Well, what the hell, I am not a playwright like Shakespeare, so let us just gOON! FUGG YEAH! LOVE TERRORISM!!!!!!!!" "cough cough ~3 new mods have been added." "Perhaps communicate to me, fine sir, what are these new enforcers of this fine realm of Reddit?" "Please be quiet." "That is five." "What?" "He has no duty to follow such requests. Please do not attempt to silence his speech because you cannot live up to his ability to use the anglophonic lexicon in unbelievably complex ways. In other words, please stop talking." that really helped us win the hormuz war frfr fajitas hoeld the fags of bros together but hoes mags my toes submitted by /u/Somanynamestochossef to r/copypasta [link] [comments]

Are skincare fridges actually useful or just aesthetic?
Okay, long-haulers in the sub, I have come for a reality check. I’ve almost checked out with a Cooluli fridge three separate times this week because of those 10-second TikTok setups which look pristine, but I have zero background info on whether these things actually work. I moved my thick moisturizer to the back of my kitchen fridge for a week just to see if I liked the chill sensation, but it came out grainy and literally impossible to spread. Low-key I'm panicking that I’ve ruined the emulsifiers already. I live in a super humid area so whenever I see a TikTok of a bone-dry skincare fridge interior, I immediately be like, "Nope! That’s a lie. "Your girl is terrified that putting a cheap thermoelectric box in my steamy bathroom is basically just buying a mold incubator for my labels. For those of you in humid climates, how bad is the condensation on the interior walls? Lastly. . . I really don't feel like buying a second fridge for no reason but at the same time, I've grown too impatient. And I feel like I'm one more fridge restock video away from buying some unbranded unit off Alibaba, just to fit the vibe but I don't want to sacrifice my expensive serums for the sake of the aesthetic. Is there any legitimate reason why I shouldn’t just toss my Vitamin C and eye masks into a sealed ziplock bag and shove it next to my spinach in the main fridge? I will appreciate your advice guys. Thanks in advance! submitted by /u/Fancy_Confusion252 to r/ProfessionalSkincare [link] [comments]

Looking for more info on spending down before filing
I live in the US Midwest. I have a lawyer; retainer is fully paid and I've done the class and the bankruptcy work book. After making my car payment and getting my medication refilled, I'm currently sitting on about $1400 to get me through the month. Had my 2nd appt today to sign and file, but I got paid at the end of March and my lawyer wants me to spend down to under $500. Problem is, I only get paid once per month and when I'm not paying on my unsecured debt, I don't have a lot of expenses relative to my income. I don't own property, no mortgage or rent payments because I moved back in with my parents about a year ago & they won't take money from me, not even for the family phone plan and car insurance. I stocked the household fridge/pantry right at the end of March, and it's going to be at least 2 more weeks before I'll have enough room to justify another grocery trip, even if I shop at the most expensive store in town and buy the highest priced/smallest packages of food stuffs. I grabbed a couple of skincare products from my hair salon for just under $250 at the end of March also, before my paycheck hit. I'm actually out of pretty much everything for skin/hygiene but I'm worried the trustee won't consider $70 moisturizer and $100 liters of shampoo and conditioner as legitimate expenses (even though they end up lasting me 5 months at a time) if I try to restock everything I'm running out of. I know I'm already toeing the line with my hair appt next week being around $150. I can come up with about $600 in grocery/hair expenses for the rest of the month, assuming my hair and skincare aren't considered unnecessary luxuries. That would leave me with around $200-400 to get rid of. Otherwise. it's $800 to spend somewhere if the salon/hair products are a no-go. Can I actually buy the products I usually use to help spend down, or do I need to switch to the cheap stuff and buy a new set of tires for my car instead? Bonus concern: I just found out last week that there's a chance I'm going to get laid off in the next month due to budget cuts, so I really want to get my hair/skin products now while I still have the ability to do so. What about contributing money to my HSA, or is that not considered a legit expense? I currently only have $200 pulled from my paychecks for my HSA, so I'm well under the contribution limit for the year. I'm getting close to needing new tires, but a full set is up to $1000 now for the basic 4 season set with the increase in prices and I'm still going to need at least $350 for groceries/gas before the end of April. My lawyer suggested opening a retirement account, but I want to know what other options exist. EDIT: I was also told to keep receipts for all purchases. If I do $100 cash back on each of my next 2 or 3 grocery runs, how does that not look suspicious to the court? submitted by /u/Re-ink_the_pen to r/Bankruptcy [link] [comments]

Every day feels like a full-time job just to exist. How do people manage?
I don’t understand how anyone actually manages life. People work full time, commute, answer emails and messages, sit in meetings, deal with taxes, insurance, bills, credit cards, loans, rent or mortgage, daycare, subscriptions. They budget, track spending, file paperwork, replace cards, update passwords, handle banking issues, check bank accounts, invest and check the stock market, pay attention to retirement accounts, try to plan for the future, answer phone calls, return phone calls, keep up with news and politics. Then there’s the basic day-to-day survival stuff that honestly seems like a full time job to me. Waking up, getting out of bed, showering, brushing teeth, using the washroom, feeding yourself, feeding others, cleaning up after meals, doing laundry by washing, drying, folding and putting clothes away, changing sheets, vacuuming, mopping, wiping counters, scrubbing toilets, cleaning the bathtub, cleaning the fridge, taking out garbage and recycling, decluttering, tidying, organizing, checking mail, opening mail, sorting, filing, returning packages, handling deliveries. Then you have to plan meals, put away groceries, restock the pantry, keep track of expiration dates, clean kitchen appliances, wash dishes, load and unload the dishwasher, buy cleaning products, water plants if you have any. Snow removal. Some people also have kids. Daycare drop-offs and pickups, packing bags, extra clothes, snacks, water bottles, lunches, paying for childcare, tracking sick days, filling out school forms, keeping up with developmental milestones, bath time, nail trimming, hair washing, haircuts, laundry again, teaching basic life skills, managing homework, driving to activities, scheduling appointments, supervising constantly, helping with emotional regulation. Cleaning up messes and putting away toys. Pets add more. Feeding, cleaning litter boxes, walking dogs, giving medications, grooming, vet visits, emergencies, training, cleaning up accidents, monitoring health. On top of that there are appointments. Doctor visits, dentist, eye exams, therapy, specialists, labs, prescriptions, follow-ups, insurance claims, refills, chronic issues, tracking symptoms, dealing with being sick while still having to function. Life admin never stops. Paying taxes, renewing licenses, renewing registrations, updating addresses everywhere, filing insurance paperwork, managing subscriptions, canceling services, resetting passwords, updating devices, troubleshooting tech, replacing broken items, being home for repairpeople, scheduling repairs. Repairs for your car and waiting days for it to be repaired. Remembering things you forgot, handling things you didn’t even know were your responsibility. There’s also everything social. Answering texts and emails, returning phone calls, remembering birthdays, buying gifts, attending weddings, funerals, parties, maintaining friendships, managing family dynamics, showing up when expected, being emotionally present. Then there’s self-care and growth, which people act like is optional but also mandatory. Skincare, body care, hair appointments, styling hair, buying clothes, exercising, eating properly, sleeping, learning new things, building skills, having hobbies, doing things that are fun, resting, enjoying life. On top of all of this, how are people supposed to get a new job or go to interviews when they can’t take time off work, don’t have PTO, don’t have childcare, and every interview or application takes hours? How do people even find the time to apply for jobs? And then there are people who are in school and working full time too, which seems completely impossible. For context, I have a 2-year-old and a very small village, so a lot of this falls on me without much backup. I also can’t afford to delegate tasks or hire help, which would make things a little easier. That definitely makes it harder. But even taking that out of the equation, even without kids, without pets, without extra responsibilities, it would still feel like too much. Just waking up, eating, cleaning up, getting dressed, showering, and sleeping already feels like a full-time job. How do people even have time to schedule and go to therapy? I know that routines and waking up early help in general, but it’s still too much and absolutely exhausting. The mental load is diabolical. I’m grateful for a lot of things in my life and I know it’s a privilege to even have some of these issues. I don’t have much of a village and I can’t afford to hire help which is hard.. but even just basic tasks feel like a lot of work. I understand the system here in Canada (and most other places in the world) is broken, but it still blows my mind how so many people seem to have their shit together. I get that being financially well off would help a ton. But still. Some people even have time to help others and volunteer. I wish I could do that too. I’m sure this list doesn’t even cover half of the tasks people juggle daily. So genuinely, how are people doing all of this? How is everyone not constantly on the edge? How do people even have time to use the washroom and remember their own birthday? I’m trying not to crash out constantly. What the hell is going on? submitted by /u/throwRA488392 to r/Adulting [link] [comments]

10 Organic Demo Ideas for your next UGC Collab (That don’t feel like ads) 🎥
Here are 10 organic demo concepts I’ve been using to fill my UGC portfolio: The "Green Screen" Reaction: Film yourself reacting to a crazy claim on the brand's website or a news article related to the problem the product solves. The "Restock" POV: An aesthetic, fast-paced edit of you putting the product away in your cabinet/fridge. The "Day in the Life" Integration: Don't talk about the product for 30 seconds. Just show yourself using it naturally during a 10-second segment of your daily routine. The "What’s in my Bag": The classic "essentials" video. Great for supplements, tech, or beauty. The "Voiceover Tutorial": Film the process of using the product with ASMR sounds, then add a helpful, "best friend" style voiceover later. The "Comparison" (Non-Competitive): Show how you used to do something (the hard way) vs. how you do it now with the product. The "Text Overlay" Tip: Use the "Siri" voice or on-screen text to share a "hack" using the product. The "Unfiltered First Impression": Record your genuine reaction the first time you smell/touch/try the product. Authenticity = Sales. The "Problem/Solution" Split Screen: Top half is you struggling with a problem; bottom half is the product solving it. The "Wait for the End" Reveal: Start with a messy or "before" state and use the product to reach a satisfying "after" result. Which of these is your go-to style? submitted by /u/AmbitiousRUEUGCgirly to r/UGCcreators [link] [comments]

I analyzed 2,000 profitable Meta ads and 87% used these 6 opening patterns (and no, "stop scrolling" isn't one of them)
This is going to be a no-promotion guide; in fact I've added all of my research material I got in the spreadsheet. It includes (all free): 2,000+ High Performing Meta Ads Database https://i.redd.it/gkwwwvsjdt1g1.gif A database of 10,000+ hooks https://i.redd.it/0bg202ca2u1g1.gif If you need both of them just let me know in the comments and I'll share the link with you (not sharing the link with everyone for obvious reasons.) Now let's get back to my story. So here's the thing nobody tells you about Meta ads: you can have the best offer, cleanest creative, and a landing page that converts like crazy... and still get absolutely destroyed by your first 3 seconds no matter if the product is a physical product or digital product you sell on Whop. I got obsessed with this problem six months ago when we were burning through $15K/week on ads that looked good but died faster than my New Year's gym membership. Good engagement, decent CPMs, but conversion rates that made me question my life choices. Started screen-recording every ad I saw. Downloaded every competitor ad from the Meta library. Bought from stores just to see their full funnel. My girlfriend thought I'd lost it when she caught me at 2 AM muttering about pattern interrupts. Here's what I found after cataloging 2,000+ ads that were actually profitable (verified by looking at ones running 60+ days with creative testing indicators): The 6 Opening Patterns Pattern #1: The Instant Demonstration Surface level: Show product in use immediately What actually works: Show the problem being solved in the first 0.8 seconds, THEN reveal it's your product The difference? Most brands lead with "Check out our amazing blender!" and show it blending. The winners show a gross, chunky protein shake, immediate cut to a smooth one, THEN pull back to reveal the product. Your brain processes the problem-solution before you even know you're being sold to. Timing breakdown from what worked: 0-10s: Problem state (visual must be instantly recognizable as "bad") 10-20s: Solution state (don't explain, just show contrast) 20-40s: Product reveal + minimal context The mistake everyone makes: They make the problem "too creative." A skincare brand showed a woman looking slightly concerned at her face. Nobody paused. The ones that worked? Literal close-up of a clogged pore. Gross? Yes. Stopped thumbs? Absolutely. I tested this with a client selling closet organizers. Original ad opened with their product. $3.80 CPA, dying after 3 days. New version: Opened with a chaotic closet, clothes falling out as someone opens it (you could FEEL the frustration), snap cut to organized closet, THEN showed the product. $1.20 CPA, ran for 47 days. Pattern #2: The "Wait, What?" Violation This is NOT clickbait. It's expectation violation. Your brain has patterns for everything. Someone cooking? You expect normal cooking. Someone organizing? You expect normal organizing. The ads that printed money violated ONE specific expectation in frame 1. Examples that actually worked: Cleaning product: Person spray-cleaning their phone screen with what looks like Windex (you KNOW you shouldn't do that... wait, what is that product?) Dog treats: Owner biting the treat before giving it to the dog (your brain breaks for a second) Yoga mat: Someone doing yoga... in a full suit (???) The specific science: Your brain's prediction error system fires when expectations are violated. This creates a 0.4-second attention lock while your brain tries to reconcile what it's seeing. That's your window. Critical rules for this pattern: The violation must be in-frame immediately (not built up to) It must relate to the product usage (random weirdness dies in testing) You get ONE violation. Two makes it feel like a skit, and skits don't convert. We tested this with a coffee brand. Random version: Person making coffee in a weird location. Flopped. Worked version: Person making coffee at a normal counter, but they're making it for their dog (sits in front of the dog bowl). 0.9 seconds of "wait what?" before the text appears: "Your coffee should excite you this much." Stupid? Yes. 2.8x ROAS? Also yes. Pattern #3: The Immediate Specificity Drop Most ads open with vague promises. "Better skin." "More organized." "Easier cooking." The pattern that crushed: Hyper-specific, almost absurdly specific problem callout in the first 2 seconds. Not: "Tired of messy cables?" But: "If you've got 3 charging cables on your nightstand and you still can't find the right one at 11 PM, this is going to make you irrationally happy" Why this destroys: Specific scenarios trigger memory recall (you've BEEN there at 11 PM) The specificity signals "this person gets it" (credibility in 2 seconds) Saying "irrationally happy" instead of "happy" adds realism (people don't trust "life-changing," they trust "pretty nice actually") The data point everyone misses: Ads with specific time references (11 PM, Tuesday morning, after your workout) had 34% higher hook rates than vague timing. Your brain assigns more reality to specific times. Testing example: Meal prep containers. Generic: "Meal prep made easy" - 1.2% CTR Specific: "It's Sunday night, you're staring at the fridge, and you know you're gonna buy lunch all week again" - 4.7% CTR Same product. Same offer. The specific scenario made you FEEL the problem. Pattern #4: The "Reverse Demo" Standard product demo: Here's our thing → Here's what it does → Buy it The reverse: Here's the result → Work backward to reveal how Example that spent $400K+: Ergonomic office chair brand. Didn't open with the chair. Opened with someone standing up after work and NOT groaning, stretching their back, or limping. Just... normal standing up. Text: "When's the last time you stood up from work and felt... fine?" THEN they work backward showing the chair, the features, the science. Why this pattern crushes for certain products: Prevention products (posture, skincare, supplements) where the "result" is NOT having a problem Products where the mechanism is complex but the result is simple Anything where people don't realize they have the problem until you show them what "normal" could be The psychology: Loss aversion is powerful, but people need to know what they're losing. Showing the "normal" result first makes them realize what they're currently missing. Testing breakthrough: A blue light glasses brand opened with their glasses (failed). Opened with someone NOT getting a headache after 6 hours of screen time, confusion on their face like "wait, why don't I feel terrible?" (2.1x ROAS improvement). Pattern #5: The Contrarian Setup This is the "everyone does X, we do Y" pattern, but there's a specific formula that works. The formula: State the common approach (that actually IS common) State the specific problem with that approach (must be real, not made up) Show your different approach in action (not explained, SHOWN) One sentence of "why" (optional, but test with and without) Example that worked stupidly well: Deodorant brand. "Everyone makes deodorant that fights odor after it happens. [0.5 second pause] We thought that was backwards. [immediate cut to application] This stops it before it starts." Shows mechanism for 2 seconds. Done. 6.2% CTR. Why most contrarian openings fail: They pick a "common approach" that isn't actually common (loses credibility instantly) They explain too much instead of showing (becomes an essay) They make the alternative sound complicated (people don't buy complicated) The validation test: Before using this pattern, literally ask 5 people "How do most [product category] work?" If they don't say what your ad says, don't use this pattern. You'll look like you're arguing with a strawman. We tested this with a probiotic brand. Failed version: "Most probiotics don't survive your stomach acid." (People didn't know this was the standard.) Worked version: "Most probiotics need refrigeration. This one lives in your gym bag." (Everyone knows the refrigeration thing.) Simple contrast, 3.1% CTR. Pattern #6: The "Achievement Unlock" Moment This is the newest pattern I'm seeing dominate, especially in Q3-Q4 2024 data. The structure: Show someone experiencing a small moment of competence/achievement that your product enabled. Not excitement. Not surprise. Just... quiet competence. Examples: Kitchen gadget: Person perfectly dicing an onion, slight nod of satisfaction, keeps cooking Productivity app: Someone closing their laptop at 5 PM (not rushing, just... done), walking away Fitness product: Someone repping out their last set, controlled, then racking the weight with zero drama The psychological hook: Achievement moments trigger dopamine differently than excitement. Your brain goes "I want to feel that competent." It's aspirational without being unrealistic. Why this works NOW: People are exhausted by fake excitement. The "OMG THIS CHANGED MY LIFE" ads are getting pattern-recognized and skipped. Quiet competence feels real. Critical execution details: The achievement must be VISIBLE (a nod, a slight smile, a controlled movement) No celebration. No "wow." Just the satisfaction of doing something well. The product must be visible but not the focus (it's the enabler, not the hero) Testing proof: Cooking knife brand. Hype version: "This knife is INCREDIBLE!" with excited testimonials. 3.2% CTR, $4.10 CPA. Achievement version: Chef prep-cooking, effortless cuts, slight satisfied nod, keeps moving. No words until 4 seconds in. 7.1% CTR, $1.80 CPA. Same knife. Different psychological trigger. The Pattern-Mixing Strategy (where this gets advanced) Here's what I found in the highest-performing ads (60+ day run times, consistent ROAS): 63% combined TWO of these patterns. Most common combinations: Instant Demonstration + Immediate Specificity: Show the solution to a hyper-specific problem immediately. "It's 6 AM, you're trying not to wake your partner, and your blender sounds like a jet engine" [cut to silent blending] "Wait, What?" Violation + Achievement Unlock: Someone doing something unexpected, but doing it with quiet competence. The violation gets the stop, the achievement gets the watch-through. Reverse Demo + Contrarian Setup: "Everyone shows you the product first. Watch this..." [shows result, works backward] What DOESN'T work: Mixing three+ patterns. Becomes too complex. Your first 3 seconds need ONE clear job. The Timing Science (this is where most people screw up) Pattern choice matters, but timing is where money gets made or burned. 0-5 seconds: Pattern trigger MUST fire. If your pattern isn't recognizable in under a second, it's not a pattern, it's a slow intro. 5-15 seconds: Pattern payoff. The violation resolves, the demo completes, the specificity lands. Don't rush this. The ads that tried to cram everything into 2 seconds died. 15-30 seconds: Context/transition. This is where you can add text, voiceover, or product reveal. Your hook worked, now don't waste it with boring transition. 30+ seconds: Standard ad stuff, but you've earned the watch time now. The timing mistake I see constantly: People front-load too much information because they're scared people will scroll. The opposite is true. The best-performing ads were often SLOWER in seconds 2-4 than the failed versions, because they let the pattern breathe. The Creative Production Reality Check You don't need Hollywood production for these patterns. What you DO need: First 0.8 seconds filmed specifically for the pattern (not pulled from existing footage) Clean audio if using voiceover (bad audio kills trust in milliseconds) Lighting that makes your first frame clear (doesn't need to be fancy, just clear) What you DON'T need: Professional actors (actually tested worse in DTC) Multiple locations Complex editing (some of the best performers were single-take) The $1.20 CPA closet ad I mentioned? Filmed on an iPhone 12 by the founder's sister. Single take. The pattern was right. How to Actually Test This Week 1: Pick ONE pattern. Make 3 variations of JUST the opening 3 seconds. Same rest of the ad. Week 2: Winner from week 1 gets new middle section tests. Keep the opening. Week 3: Test second pattern with the same product. Don't: Test all 6 patterns at once with $50/day budgets. You'll get noise, not data. Do: Give each pattern $200-300 minimum spend before deciding. Some patterns take 48 hours to find their audience. The Part Everyone Forgets: Post-Pattern Creative Matters Getting someone to watch past 3 seconds is step one. Not fumbling it afterward is step two. After your pattern hooks them: Validate quickly (2-3 seconds): One sentence that confirms they're in the right place. "Yeah, that 11 PM cable thing? Fixed." Show, don't explain (3-5 seconds): Product in action. Not features. Action Social proof that feels real (2-3 seconds): Not "5,000 happy customers." More like "Ships to all 50 states" or "Restocking every 3 weeks" (implies demand without bragging) Soft CTA (2 seconds): "Link in bio" or "Shop now" but not screamed. You've built trust, don't blow it with car salesman energy. The best-performing full-ad structure: Pattern hook (3s) → Product demo (4s) → One quick testimonial (3s) → Product shot with price (2s) → Soft CTA (1s). 13 seconds total. The Resource I Built From This After cataloging all 2,000 ads, I built a pattern recognition framework that maps: Which pattern by product category Timing breakdowns to the tenth of a second The specific swipe file organized by opening type Performance metrics (CTR, watch time, CPA ranges) Common failure modes for each pattern It's basically the cheat code I wish I had before spending $50K learning this stuff. If you want access to the full pattern framework + swipe file with performance data, drop a comment below and I'll send you the link. https://i.redd.it/cus6memc3u1g1.gif Happy to answer any questions about specific patterns or how to adapt these for your product category. This stuff genuinely changed how we approach creative testing. submitted by /u/OutsideSweaty3881 to r/dropshipping [link] [comments]

Definitely a cryday
When I first heard about today's chapter I was excited because I've been dreaming about Eunhyeok's pov. Also because I predicted it right, first the kiss and now Eun's pov. Istg, my precognitive abilities heightens when I'm thinking about otl. However, reading the chapter was different from what I imagined. It hurts more. No, it hurts a lot. I've been in Eun's position before. No. Compared to me, Eunhyeok is a saint. The regret? The pain? The fright? I've experienced it myself and that's why I empathize with him. Although I understand that pain, I also know that people should take accountability for their actions. Eunhyeok's reason might be valid but it's not an excuse to not say sorry. Not only to Suae but also to his friends that he left behind in Korea. Only then will he be able to forgive and free himself from this endless charades of regret. Suae's pain is also another level. Suae is not the type of person to ask. When Raim and Minu betrayed her, she didn't confront them and yet she gave Eunhyeok a chance. A chance to explain why but he didn't took that chance. Imagine how heartbreaking that is? For you to swallow your pride and not get the answer you want to hear? Angst aside, I've seen fans go wild about Eunhyeok's shower pic but have you seen how organized Eun's fridge is? There is nothing more hotter than a guy with a clean organized fridge. submitted by /u/Crazy-Tea-7006 to r/operationtruelove [link] [comments]

Wif: $15 for my half, my roommate's work covers a portion Subscriptions: $62.88 monthly for YouTube premium, spotify, hulu, Dropout, and Regal Unlimited. $223.99 annually for my Venture annual fee, YNAB subscription, and Google One Subscription. Gym membership: $105 but this will double shortly as I'm currently on a membership special. Health is wealth?? (Yes this is stupid expensive) DIARY Day One 7:30 AM: Good morning! I snooze my alarm once or twice and then get ready for the day. This includes brushing my teeth and my morning skincare (washing face with Cerave, using the good molecules discoloration serum, and cerave moisturizer with SPF). I also eat a biscuit with some strawberry rhubarb jam. I pack my lunch and hop on the bus to work. 9:00 AM: Emails have been checked and I head out to a dentist appointment. They remind me I should get Invisalign and I dutifully nod. (Yes I know this will be good for me, but I don’t have $5,000 lying around I want to part with.) 10:30 AM: Back in the office, updating some documents for meetings and bumming some tylenol off of a coworker because I always forget how much my teeth hurt after a cleaning. The biscuit wasn’t super filling so I have a banana to tide me over until lunch. 12:00 PM: I log off and heat up some lasagna I had frozen earlier this month. I don’t mind cooking for one for the most part (thank god), so my eating habits are pretty boring because I’m eating the same meal over and over. I also have some mixed vegetables, grapes, and a no bake cookie. I eat with my coworkers and we discuss TV shows. This includes an (unsuccessful) pitch for me to watch Succession, which I’ll hit someday. 2:00 PM: My post-lunch sleepiness is really hitting me today. I go into a phone booth to call a restaurant about private dining for our holiday party, but they don’t have any spaces suitable for us. I add this to my notes and send this off to my coworker. 3:30 PM: I wander out of our office and into the coworking space, where I find kettle-cooked chips and mini Snickers. I delight in both and then immediately feel self-conscious for eating a very crunchy food in the world’s quietest office. Oh well! I send out emails with updates for an upcoming meeting. 6:00 PM: Home from work and I sit on the couch for a long while. For dinner I have some leftover shrimp fried rice with yum yum sauce. I peel myself away to pick up some library books, but after that I am back to the couch for some rotting. 8:30 PM: It’s time for a power hour! I set a timer and made ham and swiss egg bites, unload the dishwasher, and handwash some dishes. I take the egg bites out of the oven and shower before facetiming some college friends. We’ve mostly ended up in different cities so it’s lovely to catch up. I knit a few rounds of a sweater while one friend contemplates how to arrange some artwork. We chat until 11:15 or so. 11:45 PM: Lights out, eye mask on, ASMR playing. Good night!! Total Spent: $0 Day 2 5:30 AM: I wake up like 15 minutes before my alarm, which is unfortunate. I’m trying a morning workout class before work, and I think my anxiety is getting the best of me in terms of having time to do everything. I eat half a banana (the top half was rotten), pack my breakfast and lunch, and head out the door schlepping three bags. 7:45 AM: The class is winding down. I just started working out again and this is hard! But I know it’s for the best for me to move, and I do enjoy these classes. I do a quick body shower and change into my work outfit. Feeling surprisingly peppy as I head out and catch the bus to work. My friend E. texts me and asks if I want to join her for a yoga class tomorrow. I agree and pick a slow flow. 9:00 AM: While at work I heated up some of the egg bites and two biscuits for breakfast. I also make a cup of earl grey and check emails. The tiredness quickly catches up with me. Oh joy. We head into a long meeting and I fight the sleepiness for the first half. After a short break I do feel better. 1:00 PM: I take my lunch and talk about William Shakespeare with my coworkers, among other things. Today’s selection is shrimp fried rice, green grapes, a no-bake cookie and some Lidl brand goldfish crackers. It’s a sunny day so I enjoy that. 2:45 PM: I go to CVS because my glasses are dirty and it’s one of my biggest pet peeves. I wander through the aisles until I give up and ask the workers where the glasses cleaner is. They happily show me and I get a travel sized bottle to keep at my desk. ($6.14) 3:15 PM: I have a short meeting with my boss and grandboss about a title change! We just completed a reorganization so I had been angling for one. I’m excited for this, and it comes with a small raise as well. 4:45 PM: It’s time to head out, so I bus home. My roommate L. is back from her travels so we chat for a little bit while I eat dinner. I have to quickly change and head out the door for job number two. 10:45 PM: Home from work! It wasn’t too crazy tonight, and I was training some new people who were very nice. I like this job, and the extra paychecks don’t hurt at all. Once I’m home I sit on the couch for a while before showering and heading to bed. Lights out at 12:15 AM. Total Spent: $6.14 Day 3 8:00 AM: My alarm goes off, which I set late as a treat for waking up so early last night. I hear L. head off to work and slowly get ready for the day. I heat up the same breakfast and have some of the apple I packed yesterday alongside it. 10:45 AM: I update my net worth tracker since the new month started, and pay my credit card. I also make my first student loan payment of the month (included in monthly expenses). I currently have no minimum since I started the Income Based Repayment while interning on the Hill and making … not much. But I’d rather pay this off sooner and not have it hanging over me. I’m not going to sacrifice my quality of life for it though. $500 plus per month isn’t anything to scoff at. 3:00 PM: I end up purchasing my flights home for Christmas. Every year I set aside money for this and every year I want to cry at how much the tickets are. I use some credit card miles to soften the blow. I text my parents to let them know when I’ll be home. ($311.95) 4:30 PM: I make some tuna cakes and eat those with some homemade tartar sauce I made earlier in the week. I’ve been getting really good green grapes recently, so I savor those too. 5:30 PM: Heading out the door to meet E. for yoga. It’s a slow flow so nothing too crazy. Savasana continues to be my favorite part. I am humbled while trying to do a sitting forward fold. My hips are not flexible at the moment. Such is life. We head to E’s house and she cooks some andouille sausage for us to have as a pre-kickball snack. 9:00 PM: Kickball game is over! We tied, but it isn’t a loss? We joined and they mostly all know each other but everyone is super nice. We head to a bar and sit outside for a while post-game. We also end up getting food, which is fine by me since I ate dinner pretty early. Peruvian chicken isn’t half bad! Although the broccoli was ice cold… ($19.15) 11:00 PM: L. and I head out, I drop her off at her place and head home. Meeting L. has probably been the highlight of my year, socially at least. Queer friendship man!! 1:00 AM: I’ve showered and am in bed. Good night! Total Spent: $331.10 Day 4 8:30 AM: I wake up and get ready for the day. My paycheck from my second job came in so I divide that up in YNAB. A random charge from a Hill Staff Association goes through so I email the group to take me off the membership list. ($5.00) 11:30 AM: Work hasn’t been too crazy. Biscuits and egg bites for brunch. I work on the grocery list for the dinner party L. and I are throwing tomorrow. I send $200 to my Roth IRA and wait for the transfer to go through. My hulu subscription also processes today. 3:30 PM: I work on washing the bathroom linens and wipe down baseboards. Ours are white so they show dust so badly! 5:00 PM: I eat some fried rice and head off to work. 11:15 PM: I made it home, busy but not as bad as the height of summer. Lights out around 1:00 AM. Total Spent: $5.00 Day 5 8:30 AM: Party Day!! I go over my game plan for the day and head out to grocery stores one and two for ingredients (Glazed pecans, dishwasher cleaner, paper plates, diced tomatoes, evaporated milk, tomato puree, parmesan, penne, colby jack, heavy cream, cavatappi, grape tomatoes, spinach, and spring mix). I also go to the farmer’s market for flowers. ($58.75) 10:30 AM: L. and I go to grocery stores three and four (french bread, ricotta, lasagna noodles, rice krispies, butterscotch chips, chocolate chips, gruyere, minced garlic, basil, lemons, an onion, meatloaf mix, and powdered Ocean Spray drink mix). We also stop and buy a new air filter (L. pays). ($57.47) 12:00 PM: Back from our excursions, we eat lunch and I take some time to veg out. After that I make dessert for the party and start on the sauce for the lasagna. 2:00 PM: Disaster has struck. We had grated parm but it expired in August… I send L. out to the store for more. Once she’s back I make the ricotta filling and realize that we don’t have enough noodles. Shrinkflation must be hitting because the recipe calls for only 12 noodles and we need five for each layer. I use the last two L. had from a prior lasagna but we are only two layers in. L. is off to the store again… 3:00 PM: Ok, the lasagna has been assembled and is in the fridge to hang until closer to the party. L. and I shred an insane amount of cheese. I remember the internet saying to stick the cheese in the freezer to make it easier so I did that this morning. Those blocks were rock hard. They softened while I made the lasagna, so they’re better now at least. I finish shredding the cheese for mac and cheese while L. makes the sauce. I also prep the garlic butter for garlic bread! 5:00 PM: Some cleaning occurs like one final vacuum and mop, as well as taking the trash out prior to the party starting! My gym’s annual fee goes through. ($42.00) 6:00 PM: Pastas are assembled and in the fridge. L. and I are both starving so we eat a scotcharoo as a little pre-dinner dessert. I change and get ready while our friend P. calls and says she can’t make it due to last minute work scheduling. This sucks, but she apologizes profusely and offers to make us pasta in return. 6:45 PM: E. arrives and we chat while the food is taken out of the oven. It was delicious, can’t complain! L’s boyfriend F. arrives after wandering the aisles of the grocery store for Shirley Temple materials. 10:00 PM: People start to trickle out aside from a few as the Tigers/Mariners game is on. One of our friends is at the game (sadly missing the party to do so) so I text her. I also buy a ticket for an event next week that E. and I make plan to go to. ($15.28) 12:15 PM: The game is over so I get ready to head to bed. Total Spent: $173.50 Day 6 8:30 AM: I wake up but don’t really get out of bed for a few hours. I eat some cereal and scroll social media. 12:30 PM: I eventually get ready and go to the grocery store to get groceries for the rest of the week, supplementing the insane amount of leftovers we have left (frozen hashbrowns, a bag of honeycrisp apples, grape tomatoes, jalapenos, breakfast sausage, eggs, raspberries, and green grapes, an onion, bananas, toothbrushes, and steripods). I eat some of said leftovers for lunch and do some light cleaning around the house. This includes washing all my bedding, mattress pad and quilt included. I do enjoy having these monthly tasks, since they make me feel at least a little put together. I also run a cleaning cycle on the dishwasher and let that run. ($48.50) 2:30 PM: I’m meeting a new friend for coffee so I meet her there and get a hibiscus tea. We sit on her porch and talk for a few hours. We’d only met once prior to this but we fall into easy conversation. It took a few months to plan this but I’m so glad we did! ($5.52) 4:30 PM: Heading home and say hi to L. before she and F. go to the Lorde concert. I didn’t think I cared enough to try and participate in the ticketmaster wars but I am feeling severe FOMO the more I see it on social media. Oh well. 6:30 PM: I get ready for work and head out. The shift is short and goes by quickly, plus I get to work with some of my favorite coworkers. 10:30 PM: We close and I go home and get ready for bed. Nothing else of note. Total Spent: $54.02 Day 7 8:00 AM: More cereal for me. Yippee! I get ready for the day and sit down to send out my weekly emails. 12:00 PM: Nothing much to report today. I bake some salmon and have that with a salad and some garlic bread. Scroll tiktok which is full of discourse about the new Taylor Swift album. I haven’t listened to it fully yet (much to the chagrin of E.), but I’ll get around to it. 4:30 PM: I set a two hour timer and tell myself I will go to the gym once it goes off. I eat a banana with some peanut butter and do some laundry. It’s been a very lowkey day and the news has honestly just been getting to me (shocker, woman is sad in current day and age). 6:30 PM: The timer goes off and I walk to the gym. I normally do a workout class but it was cancelled so I do a push day and force myself to listen to the entire album. I decide that I don’t love the lyrics but I admit they’re catchy tunes. But since so many of the songs are interpolated can she even take credit for that? I digress. I look at the moon on my walk home. 8:00 PM: I have a never-ending amount of lasagna in my fridge, so I eat this for dinner and shower. I wash more clothes and hang them to dry. This always ups the humidity in my room to a ridiculous extent so I drag the dehumidifier in there and crank it. I also make a breakfast casserole and stick that in the oven. 10:30 PM: Casserole is in the fridge, I get into bed. I had started Who Framed Roger Rabbit a day prior, so I finish watching that. It did hold up for me! I eventually drift off around midnight. Total Spent: $0 Spent Overall: $569.76 Food + Drink: $53.39 Fun / Entertainment: $131.50 Home + Health: $6.14 Clothes + Beauty: $19.78 Transport: $311.95 Other: $47.00 Reflect: I feel like the amount tracks but not the categories, since I'm not hosting and buying flights around the holidays every week. But this was a fun exercise and for the most part I feel secure in my spending. Also, L. did venmo me for half so I didn't spend quite as much as this. I just couldn't bear doing the math after having to rewrite this godforesaken diary twice. submitted by /u/moneydiarythrowaway3 to r/MoneyDiariesACTIVE [link] [comments]

I love restock asmr/think the hate is a little over the top
I know they are promoting over consumption and they’re basically ads, but I love those clean tok, restock/organize ASMR, people restocking their laundry soaps, making themed lunches, decorative bubble baths. I watch a lady who decorate her fridge. On each video there are people who get really riled up over it. People sent her angry hateful DMs bc she decorate her fridge. Talking about it’s over consumption, chemicals, over the top for kids. Those points are valid but the anger people show over it is odd. I would love if my mom packed my lunch with cute cut out sandwiches or theme my room. I wish I was more organized and clean which is why I started watching for inspiration and tips. I love cups but they assume they just throw cups away which we don’t know that? They could give them away, regift them, or sell them or keep them. I just find it odd. submitted by /u/Kakebaker95 to r/RandomThoughts [link] [comments]

videos criticizing "overconsumerism" that are actually just normal people living their lives.
first of all i do think a lot of tiktok "restock" videos and the like can be criticized for overconsumption, but a lot of the creators who make their living off this critique will go way too far and end up criticizing things that are normal and just cute/aesthetic, and/or filmed in an "asmr" style like, just today i saw a short of someone reacting to a video of someone packing her tumbler for her workout class. she put ice from those hollow circle molds in them, and a bit of flavouring. then she attached a little bag to it and put in wet wipes, deodorant, hair ties, hand sanitizer, lotion, and lip gloss. also two of something im not sure of, but i think it was some sort of food? and a button. the person reacting and everyone in the comments were complaining about overconsumption. my issue is, how is that overconsumption if shes using it regularly? even if she doesnt use all of it in the next hour. these are all useful things that most people have lying around their houses and use regularly. except for maybe the specifics of like the waterbottle backpack bag, but most people have a small bag for when they dont need to carry that much stuff, so again if she uses it i dont see a problem. or specifically the circular ice, but again. most people have ice trays. why is it a problem if she bought one that she gets more use out of? is it because its pink/cute? do people think overconsumption means not to buy "aesthetic"/cute/pink stuff instead of not to buy things you dont use? or do these people think we shouldnt be buying hand sanitizer... i see these videos all the time. once i saw a dermatologist (for some reason he mentioned that) critique a fridge organization video because she put things in reusable plastic organizer things? as if she wont be using those forever. or because some of the things she bought were prepackaged. like okay ideally we'd all use less plastic but shes literally just a normal person buying regular groceries. id love to see inside YOUR fridge. if youre really against overconsumption than you should be ENCOURAGING people who are filling that asmr/restock niche with content that actually represents/shows things that they are actually making use of on a daily basis. that should be a GOOD thing to you. but these creators just make videos about all of them pretending like theyre being wasteful because it makes them money. also not really relevant but one person said the only thing they take to yoga/pilates was their mat as if thats better/good. you can make your own choices but most people like being hydrated. submitted by /u/junonomenon to r/PetPeeves [link] [comments]

ASMR?
Why does she slam and throw things in her mini fridge restock, lunch box videos, and her valentines bucket and snack box videos? Does she think that’s how ASMR works? It’s just annoying! submitted by /u/Ok_Contribution5136 to r/doughertydozen [link] [comments]

Just curious and what do you think
A few observations: Has anyone noticed that she buys disinfectant and cleaners but almost always shows herself cleaning EVERYTHING with WINDOW CLEANER? Cleaning the "filthy" mini fridges with windows cleaner, cleaning the bathroom with windows cleaner. What does she use the actual cleaners for? Also: She went through and extended production about these kids food issues and flat out said they could not have red food dye and sugar...so...why is she buying food that is like 80% made of that? Is it possible for anyone to need a new toothbrush every week or at least every month? And how can anyone use a entire container of deodorant in a month? I now hate and am "triggered" by words like: sports cap, end cap etc And finally(for now)it's Sherbet! Not Sherbert Thanks for listening....I feel better now and am interested in everyone's opinions I have to add the constant overuse of the word "random" now too! Last week I saw a post where she is "restocking" mini fridges and says "if you don't like ASMR content, to fast forward through it" and then proceeds to dump, slam and purposely loudly crinkle plastic packaging...how is this ASMR? What is soothing about any of that? And how could she possibly believe this is ASMR content? Thanks everyone for letting me vent submitted by /u/Best-Tax-545 to r/doughertydozenexposed [link] [comments]

Etiquette/boundary with roommate from south asian culture?
About me I am a first generation immigrant from east asia living in Seattle. About my roommate First generation immigrant from south asia. We went to the same graduate program and became friends. I used to live in this 2B2B apartment alone. Upon we graduated in 2022, she asked me if she could temporarliy moved in with me until she figured out her next step. We are roommates since then. Situations I feel inconvinient and unconfortable in many situations. I never confront her because I want to respect different cultures (especially that people in Seattle are expected to be inclusive and accommdate diverse cultures and traditions). However, I do feel the strong differences between east asian and south asian cultures. From example, my people are expected to read the air (e.g., one should censor his/her own behaviors and carefully capture other's subtle reactions to make sure you don't make them feel unconfortable, without each party explicitly saying anything). For her, she has the tropical area energy: outgoing, energetic, carefree, and bohemian. We are obviously very different. One has countless unspoken rules and boudnaries, another radiates energy and enjoys the closeness with people. I am not happy about this. After a few years, I feel I am at the point to have a conversation with her. However, I don't want to judge her behaviors if that's the norms for her culture. That's why I want to ask for the sub to help me have better understanding what's acceptable for south asain culture and if I am overreacting. I am completely fine with spices and music. I had enough understanding about these before I agreed to let her move in. That's what I signed up for so I would never complain. However, there are some situations that I did not expect and that's why I am so upset right now. Case 1 She uses my food from kitchen and my pantry, and my personal stuff I leave in living room without asking. It's actually hilarious seeing my vegetables, eggs, milk, cheese, sugar, cookies, jam, and ice cream gradually getting less and less when I open the fridge or pantry. It is obvious because some items are "for emergency" to me. I don't really use my sugar, jam, orea, or ice cream. Snacks and desserts in my pantry are just in case I stay late and need something to eat at midnight. A pack of orea usually stayed for a year when I lived alone, but now I have to restock my emergency food pantry every 1-2 months even though I am not eating any of it. I was shocked and confused at first. For my culture, taking other's belongings without prior permission is considered stealing. I say nothing because most of the items are just a few dollars; I don't want to cause drama for an egg. Also I read it in this sub-reddit that her culture tends to share things in the same household and it's acceptable to use friends' stuff without asking. Plus, I don't think she has the needs to steal; her company pays her way higher than my company does. However, it's getting close to my limit recently. I tried to be considerate at first because she might just get her career started and did not have much savings. But it's getting worse and worse. The items she takes are no longer limited to low-price daily necessity. This is where I need your advise. To what point is acceptable for your culture? Level 1: she runs out of veggies/butter while cooking so asks me if she can borrow some Level 2: shes runs out of veggies/butter while cooking so just takes some from me without asking Level 3: her friend is visiting and leaving next week. That friend still needs some gifts for family and friends so she tells him to take some kinder bueno and chocolates from my pantry without asking Level 4: she plans to celebrate Diwali and notices I have some tea candles in storage, so she uses those candles without asking Level 5: she sees a $90 le labo scented candle in living room with dried flowers as decoration. She takes the candle into her room and burns it change the smell of her room without asking Level 6: she plans to host a party with her cousines while I am not at home. Her grocery shopping list includes cumin, tofu, coconut milk, tihalal, garlic, and wine. But she sees a few bottles of nice wine in fridge so she ends up treating her cousine with my wine without asking. All these happened except for the first scenario. It started with something small and I am silent about it. I am totally fine if she's out out daily necessity unexpectedly. However, she now takes my things for her personally events planned ahead, and involves some higher price, feeling-good items. I am confused. I am away 3-4 days a week (stay with my bf) and we are not that kind of besties sharing designer products and expensive wines together. I don't think we are that close. Is this normal to take your roommate's belongings without asking to treat your friends? Is taking higher price items without asking still within the idea "brown household shares things"? Case 2 Her husband has moved in awhile ago. Again, I did not stop her because everything started as small. Back in 2022, she only needed a temporarily bed to crush until she figured out her next step. I welcomed her of course, as a friend from school. One reason I am silent about her behaviors was because "she said this is temporarliy, I just need to tolerate this for a couple months and she will leave. I don't need to ruin our friendship because of a few months of incovinience". But she never figures it out her next step or moves out. She then got married, filed H4 for her husband, and brought her husband to the US. I was happy because after 2 years of my tolerance, she's talking about moving out again, with her husband. Since she was nice enough to invite me to her wedding and she was really actively looking for a new place, of course I wouldn't be so rude to not to let her husband stays with us for a while as a guest until they sign the new apartment lease. And they informed me they decided not to move out. I was like "ooooh ok... so what now?" But she never brought up further discussion about our new arrangement. They just started occupying our shared space for their groceries, clothes, dishes, food, bedding for naps and converting our living room as their WFH work spece. Then this was the first time I feel unconfortable enough to confront her and asked them to take a bigger share of our rent. Her share was $950 with all utility included in Seattle. I paid more rent because she just needed a temporarily place and I shouldn't take advantages from a friend, even when her husband stayed with us as a guest for 4 months. I eventually asked her that if they were going to stay, I did not think $950 for 2 people with all utility in Seattle was reasonable; we needed to talk about our share among 3 people, not just 2. That was a very unconfortable expereince to me. For my culture, the proper manner is one should read the air and reevaluate the situation to make sure one does not take advantages from another or bring inconvinience to other people. If I bring in another person, that would potentially cause inconvinience to my roommate and I should immediately apologize and initiate the conversation on how to make up for her inconvenience up front. It was just so inelegant to me that I had to be the one to start the conversation, even though I wasn't the one who broke the balance of our living situation. And she looked hurt when I brought that up. That made me feel bad and I felt I was an asshole. Did I approach this in a wrong way? In the south asian culture, what's the proper etiquette to handle this situation peacefully? Case 3 We also have very different views about shared space. For my culture, simplicity is mainstream. When I lived alone in that 2B2B apartment, I kept the space neat, with only furniture and decors (cut flowers, lamps for ambience, decorative books, and leafy plants). It's a respect to family members and guests if you keep your space as clean and presentable as at a hotel. If you won't see food, trash, paper, clothe, dishes all over the table and floor at a Ritz-Carlton, that shouldn't be in the room as well. I got good reputation about my apartment when I hosted dinner or party. My roommate was one of my guests when I lived alone, and really enjoyed my space as well. (not to brag about my taste, but my roommate's bestie invited her to share a 2B2B at the time of graduation but my roommate ditched her bestie and asked me to move to my apartment). That blew my mind after my roommate moved in. I did not expect she would use the shared space like her own space, with 20 used mugs everywhere, unfinished food on table, pots staying on stove all the time, plates in sink and over kitchen countertop, beans and spices all over the kitchen floor, laundry in washer for days, skincare on bar table, pieces of paper and garbage here and there. I do understand my culture is a bit weird because we don't even allow ourselve to freely enjoy our private space and must keep everything tidy just in case of any guest visit; but man, I think her culture is at the opposite end on the spectrum and that gives me headache. She used to be excited and hosting several dinners show her friends/cousines how nice the living space and patio were. I cleaned up the space for her everytime and at one point I just stopped doing so and only maintain my own private bedroom. I am not going to force her to fit in my culture and standards, but just feel upset that she clearly understands what's a nice shared space but she can't keep it nice. Another thing is that people from my culture usually have invisible personal space in a shared space. I used to live with other people before I moved to the US. We would unconsciously draw a line in fridge, storage room, pantry shell, and other shared space. For example, if I share an apartment with another person, I would mentally note that I only own 50% of the fridge space; my roommate has equal right to the fridge so I should respect the fact and make sure she has 50% of the space to use. Same for pantry shelves and storage room. For the other shared space like living room and kitchen, I can use them but I must clean it up right after, to make it available to my roommate when she wants. However, she just takes up whatever space left. Please correct me if my understanding is not right, I feel for her culture, a space is to be used without questions. She's happy to move her things if I ask, but if I say nothing, she would just occupy all the space. I have stopped using the living room long ago. She set up her office there and her groceries from Costco, with cups, plates, pots, pillow all over the living room, dining room, and coach. If I want to use the kitchen table, I would need to politely ask her if she could move some her stuff away so I can sit down and eat. Again, for my culture, it's so inelegant that I have to even say it, even though I am not the one who keeps the room messy. Things got worse after her husband moved to the US months ago. They keep buying groceries and others that flood all the apartment and took over my fridge space and pantry shelves. They use up all their cookingware without doing dishes. At the begining, I would clean the dishes for her as it's not a biggie, but I have stopped a while back because I feel like I am their maid. Now, they run out of clean cookingware quickly without me doing dishes for them, but they realize someone in this apartment still has clean dishes and cookingware that they can use. The most recent case is that when I came back to the apartment after a week of thanksgiving with my bf, I saw they left piles of dirty dishes and cookingware over the kitchen before they went to San Francisco for vacation, including my pans and pots. I had to do the dishes I did not used, so I can live in my own apartment. Conclusion I know I should stop ranting and start actions. I finally decide I should have a serious conversation. However, I don't want to overreact to that if it's norms. I want to make sure it's not okay even for south asian culture before I have a discussion with my roommates. submitted by /u/eliwei to r/AskIndia [link] [comments]

Lush is losing her 💩. A video of her just slamming the doors to the completed mini fridge restock. She wants to act like she’s trolling but this is how a narcissist acts. They have to think they are winning.

Coffee Creamer is close to 10 dollars. If you kill it fill it.
My bf drinks coffee daily and I make a cup at home every now and again. We pay for our own groceries, we never use my roommates stuff but there are things like seasonings and condiments that I allow communal use of because it doesn't make sense to overflow anyone's space with excess salt or pepper or mayonnaise because we have limited space in the fridge and cupboards. Lemme preface this rant by saying. I have already established that I'm not built for the mental labor of having a roommate. I don't like having to repeat myself to other adults multiple times. My roommate was given an inch and has taken a mile. We used to let him use the creamer but asked that he not use it when it's low OR if he's gonna kill it, fill it. He has never ONCE in the 6 months he has been here restocked the coffee creamer but drinks it daily so we are going through creamer at double the speed we were. In fact he will use the remainder and sit it on the counter for us to know its time for a new one. Cept the one time he left a whisper of my creamer and put it back in the fridge. I started putting our creamers on our personal shelf because after the 10th time of us buying creamer and him not even offering a cent to help replace it I'm tired of it. Today I come downstairs and he has helped himself to some half and half that I purchased. I don't really use it but because I know he won't replace it AT ALL it's gonna be a no from me. I understand the income difference but the luxury of having palatable coffee shouldnt have to come at my expense. I already provided him a Ninja coffee bar machine that is just for his use because we purchased a nespresso and it was just sitting around. He can use his own milk, but maybe I am a jerk for being annoyed by it. submitted by /u/Rosequartzsurfboardt to r/badroommates [link] [comments]

I am 25 years old, make $22,000 living in a small town in Appalachia, work as a preschool teacher, and next week I start my last semester of college!
Title: I am 25 years old, make $22,000 living in a small town in Appalachia, work as a preschool teacher, and next week I start my last semester of college. Section One: Assets and Debt Use this section to explain your current financial picture at large. Retirement Balance: $0, I haven’t started contributing yet for a lot of reasons. Savings account balance: $15,000, I hit my saving goal last month! Checking account balance: $736.15 Credit card debt: $0, I pay off my balance monthly. Student loan debt: $0! I took a few years off school to save money, applied for and received scholarship funds, and combined with financial aid I was able to cover everything. Other Assets: I have a fully paid off 2016 Chevy hatchback with low mileage, worth about $10k. Investments: $145 in a Robinhood account that I add to sporadically. Section Two: Income Income Progression: I've been working in Education/Early childhood education on and off for four years. I started off at $10 an hour (about $16k a year) as an assistant teacher and moved to a lead teacher position with no raise. I currently make $14.73 an hour and work as a substitute at a different facility. After a graduate, I’ll be teaching abroad for a year or two and will be taking home between $800-$1600 a month depending on my placement. Before working in childcare, I worked in retail and got my first job at a small local farm sheering alpaca, which is by far the coolest job I will ever have. I would get paid $30 for about 5 hours of work; terrible pay, but an awesome experience! Main Job Monthly Take Home: This fluctuates as I work part time as a substitute and my hours are inconsistent, but usually between $1200-$1400 a month. Side Gig Monthly Take Home I babysit for a few different families and make about $150 extra a month. Other Monthly Income: I also receive financial aid and scholarships from school, which totals to about $4,000 a year. I use any money that doesn’t go toward tuition to help pay for food, gas, and other necessities. This evens out to $300 a month in extra income. Section Three: Expenses Please include ALL expenses relevant to you. Here's a good place to get started: Rent: $0 I live with my mom and in lieu of rent I help out with my terminal stepfather’s health care needs (feeding, driving to doctor appointments, general care-taking duties, etc.) Savings contribution: At least $500 a month. Investment contribution: $15 whenever I can remember to contribute to my Robinhood account. Donations: $10 every Thanksgiving to Planned Parenthood, which I’ve been doing since I was 18. I also donate about $50 total to sporadic GoFundMe’s for murder victim’s families throughout the year. I also do volunteer tutoring with English Language Learners a few times a year (about 12 hours total). Electric: $0, my mom pays this bill. Wifi/Cable/Landline: $0, My mom bundles the wifi with her cellphone bill, and we don’t have cable or a landline. Cellphone: $27 Yearly Subscriptions: $140 for Amazon Prime, $24 Hulu deal that I got during black Friday last year, and $80 for Disney+ subscription. My whole household uses these subscriptions. Car insurance: $463 every six months. Regular therapy: $140 for two sessions a month. Groceries: $100 a month, I eat a lot of meals at home but I also contribute groceries for the household. Extras: I spend about $200 a month picking up extras for my mom, like groceries, prescriptions, or a small treat for the family. [Write your 7-day Money Diary here!] Day One; Sunday 7:40: I wake up and desperately need to use the bathroom, so I get out of bed and make the quick trip. It’s Sunday and I refuse to get up before 8:30, so I crawl back into bed for another hour, dozing in and out and thinking about how badly my bedroom fan needs dusted. I get out of bed and put on my bra before heading out to tell my family good morning. My stepdad is terminally ill and has recently lost his appetite, so I mix together his nutritional drink pack his doctor gave us samples of. He says nothing when I give it to him and I know he won’t eat it, but it’s our routine. The rest of my family eats breakfast together that my mom prepared, cheesy hashbrowns and scrambled eggs. I’m going out shopping with my sister and we’ll eat while we’re out, so I only eat hashbrowns and drink a diet Sunkist for some caffeination. The breakfast of champions! I go back in my room and do a little skin care, witch hazel toner, Good Molecule Super Peptide Serum, CeraVe Daily Moisturizer with a few drops of Earth Harbor’s Aurora Superfood Serum. I put on a floral long sleeve dress with lattice sleeves, polka dotted socks, and white Puma sneakers I bought myself for my birthday this year. I need to buy new blue jeans since my old ones ripped, but I don’t want to spend the money right now, so a dress it is. A little light make-up and I’m out the door with my younger sister, T. (21F). 10:15: I drive to a local Asian market, excited to see new products since their grand re-opening. We immediately go to the ramen isle and pick out a few new flavors to try; I get shrimp and onion flavor and another flavor that I know I like but can’t read the name of. I also buy some frozen seafood Shumai, rice crackers, Lay’s spicy crayfish chips, litchi cakes, and spicy chili crisp (the good stuff Lao Gon Ma). I also buy a piece of triangle crème cake for use to split; it’s green and has the texture of an angel food cake, with just a little crème in between the layers. We enjoy it but agree we’re unlikely to eat a whole piece ourselves. I spend $32.49. I drive through McDonalds and we both get iced coffees, plus a free medium fry through the app. I purchased the triangle cake and litchi cakes for us to share, so my sister pays for my coffee. We sit and finish our cake and fries in the car while we drink our coffee and people-watch at the Dunkin across the street. We have more plans later today, so we head back home. 12:30: At home, I put away my groceries and change into black jeans, a green dress shirt, and strap-on sandals. We’re going out to eat as a family since my grandmother is in town. My stepdad is mostly housebound now, so my older sister H. (28F) stays home with him. They don’t get along, but my stepdad doesn’t talk much anymore; all they end up doing is watching TV in separate rooms. My grandmother and mom have a lot of dietary and spice restrictions, and don’t trust people to cook their food safely, so we end up just going to McDonalds. I’m still happy, eating out is expensive with so many people and we don’t go anywhere as a family often. I eat a cheeseburger and a half, some fries, and drink a diet coke. My grandmother pays. After we eat, we drive back home, but me and T. head right back out to the store to pick up ice cream for my brother’s anniversary party and headache medication for our younger sister B. (18F). At Walmart, I purchase a small Bolthouse smoothie, soft socks for my mom, and clearance cake-pops to share with T. It costs $6.03, and T. uses our mom’s credit card to buy the rest of the stuff. 6:00: Back home, and there is still work to do. I help tidy the kitchen and clean out the fridge, and then drive our garbage bags up the driveway for pick-up tomorrow. We live in a rural area which means the garbage truck doesn’t stop close enough to our house. I eat a slice of French bread my mom made with butter, and play some cards with my grandmother, stepdad and my younger brothers, N. (14M) and C. (10M). I also snack on some cherries and beef jerky. I drink a pink lemonade Spindrift that I bought on sale in a variety pack last week. I love these seltzer waters and only buy them on sale, so I really enjoy it! I go outside and water the garden while it’s still light out, then play charades with my siblings for another hour. It started out as a joke but ended up being really fun! 9:30: My brother’s head to bed and I take a quick, cold shower, something I’ve gotten really good at over the years from so many siblings and a small water tank; I almost enjoy it now! I put more of the same toner as before on, then some Good Molecules Overnight Exfoliant Treatment, Farmacy Honey Collagen Serum, and a vitamin C with hyaluronic acid eye cream. I play Animal Crossing in bed on my switch, and then turn on ASMR on my phone to go to sleep to. I plug in my switch to charge, brush my teeth, put in my retainer, and fall asleep sometime bewtween11:30-12:00 listening to ASMR. Daily Expense: $38.52 Day Two: Monday 9:30: I can’t believe I slept in this late on a Monday, but the past week was exhausting! I jump out of bed to tell my mom goodbye as she leaves to run errands with T. and B.; it’s just me, my older sister and my younger brothers today, as my mom is also taking my stepdad to physical therapy. It’s really just to stop his muscles from atrophying as he’s bed bound essentially but it’s still important. Today is a low-key day for me since work won’t need me until Wednesday, so I get dressed in an old Hawaiian shirt and jogging shorts (I do not jog). I pace around the house as I eat dry cereal from a bowl, cupped under my chin so I don’t leave a trail of crumbs. After breakfast, I put on some Vitamin C toner and more CeraVe daily moisturizing lotion. I’m also going to wash my hair today, so I start brushing out the tangles and knots. I only recently started to understand how to deal with my wavy/curly hair, so I no longer brush it every day, switched conditioners and use a leave-in crème and my hair has never looked better! After brushing my hair, it poofs out and starts to frizz, but it’s okay, it’ll look much better after I wash it. I go outside to water the garden with C. and then put in a load of laundry to wash. My phone bill auto-renewed today and I get a notification of the payment ($27). 12:00: We’re late lunch eaters, so C. and I draw and listen to music for an hour before deciding on a snack. I eat some gouda cheese and make a green tea that I should have drank this morning. I wait for my tea to cool down before adding in a scoop of green collagen powder and some of the Bolthouse smoothie to mask the green taste. I pour it all over ice and it’s drinkable, if a little thick. I am trying to get more nutrition in my day-to-day life and since I bought the green powder, I feel obligated to finish it. I won’t be buying more though; the smell makes me nauseous. I change out the load of laundry and begin making lunch; ham and cheese melts, using light bread that needs used, fat free cheese slices that no one wants to eat, sliced deli ham, and oranges and sliced cucumbers on the side. It is as disappointing as it sounds. I drink some diet Mountain Dew afterwards and take a gummy multi-vitamin. My boss texts me and asks me if I can stay late at work this week. It’s a short work week as we were closed for a teacher’s workday and I need the money, so I agree. My mom arrives home with the rest of the family, and I go to my room for a while to watch some Grey’s Anatomy on my laptop while I put away laundry and clean up my school space. 4:00: I finish the beef jerky I had for snack with some Kettle chips and notice that my package arrived with a few things I purchased on Amazon last week; more Spindrift that I purchased last minute when I got a price drop notification, Skinny Pop Sea Salt and Pepper popcorn, and Organic Seaweed snacks I snagged for $2.49. I put the packaging with the rest of the recyclables, and remember I deposited funds into my Robinhood account. I re-invest in stocks I already have purchased, but the market is already closed so they will pend until tomorrow morning. It costs nothing because I made the deposit last week, but it still almost feels like spending money. My mom and I have our usual discussion about what she needs from me this week as far as my stepdad’s care; I need to pick up his prescriptions tomorrow, help with usual feedings and bathroom needs, and there is a virtual healthcare meeting with his doctor Wednesday evening. We also discuss her monthly budget and how she’s doing financially. I don’t contribute as much financially as I wish I could right now, but emotionally I’m my mother’s sounding board for most tough decisions and it’s exhausting. It is also understood that my mother will need financial support as she has no retirement savings and struggles with money as it is, so I will be helping to financially support her retirement, which causes me a lot of anxiety and stress. We wrap up our conversation and I realize I hit my goal of 10K steps today! I try to walk around 130 miles a month, and I am on track so far for August. I decide to shower and wash my hair before dinner. I do a Matcha Detox mask before hopping in the shower, and I feel like it dries out my face too much. 7:15: I help dish out dinner, sausage spaghetti with wheat pasta, garlic bread, and spinach. I also prep my stepdad’s nutritional drink and sit with him while he drinks most of it. A win! Then my family sits down together at the table and eats; I drink another Spindrift and enjoy a nice breeze that comes through one of the open windows. We don’t generally use AC, and it’s been humid and uncomfortably hot lately. I finish folding the laundry from earlier and distribute it among the correct family members. I drive a bag of garbage up to our bins, which the garbage truck emptied today. There are occasions when we don’t get our weekly trash pick-up, and the entire neighborhood is getting pretty sick of it. Today is not that day, so I give my mom a victorious high-five when I get home. I watch an episode of The Mandalorian with my sisters before we go our own ways for the evening. 9:30: I tell my younger brothers goodnight and give them goodnight kisses. Then I go to wash my face and apply witch hazel toner, niacinamide and retinol serum, and more CeraVe. I don’t feel like moisturizing my whole body, so I just put lotion on my elbows, knees, and boobs. I change into a crop tank top for bed and cut-off sweatpants shorts. I tell my mom goodnight and eat a few peanut M&M’s from the pantry before I go back to my room. I brush my teeth and put on deodorant, and finally put in my retainer for the night. I play some more Animal Crossing on my switch before I remember that I already used a streak freeze on Duolingo yesterday, so I do a quick Spanish lesson on my phone. I hit a streak of 175 days! I play more AC while I simultaneously watch Grey’s Anatomy. Eventually I put down my switch on turn on YouTube and listen to ASMR to fall asleep to. I get too bored, so instead I turn on a dinosaur documentary to watch instead. It stresses me out about global warming. I turn everything off and listen to music on my old MP3Player. I fall asleep around 1:00 A.M. Daily Expenses: $27 Day Three: Tuesday 8:10: I wake up and do the usual business with my face and retainer, then throw a sweater over my pajamas and load my car up for errand day. I take our recyclables to the dump once a week, and this week I also need to Goodwill some clothes my brothers outgrew. I stretch my legs outside and head down the street for a quick walk, but then I get a whiff of a skunk and don’t feel like getting all stinky first thing in the morning. My sisters aren’t up yet, nor is my teenager brother; it’s the tail-end of summer so I know they’re all trying to get as much sleep as they can right now. I pour myself some orange juice and stretch out in my bed to check work and school emails, then edit my money diary. It’s more work than I thought it would be. Once all my siblings are up, we eat avocado toast for breakfast (I add some chili crisp to mine). I brush my teeth, put on black joggers, a burnt orange t shirt with a graphic whale, and my black and white sneakers that I got from Walmart last year for $10. I say goodbye to my brothers and mom and I’m out the door. 10:30: I do the recycling and drop off our bag of clothes, then double back to pick up prescriptions at a locally owned pharmacy. I used to work here as a teenager, so I stop and say hello to the owner/manager. Her son is getting married soon, which I already knew, but I realized while we talk that she’s talking about her youngest son, who’s 19! I hide my surprise, plenty of people get married around that age around her; I have had several co-workers who got married at 17. She asks me if I’m still with that sweet boy I was with, and I find a nice way to tell her no. I was engaged at 19 to someone who treated me terribly and I’m very grateful to be out of that situation, but I don’t expand on that with her. I grab my stepdad’s and sister’s prescriptions and also buy a 2 liter of diet coke, a small container of pre-cut watermelon, and an avocado. She rings me up and gives me an employee discount ($5.40). I drive-thru Sonic’s and get a diet coke for me and a diet cherry limeade for my mom ($3.42). I listen to the radio and enjoy some absolute bangers that put me all in my feelings about moving abroad next year. My mom is accepting that it is happening but isn’t thrilled and I know that it’s going to be harder on my family with me gone. I’m trying to work through that guilt with my therapist, but I feel really guilty about it today. I arrive at the house and B. is leaving to go out with friends before college starts next week; I slip her a $10 as a thank you for doing my yard work last week and give her my car keys, as I recently put her on my car insurance policy. I pay the policy premium and will continue to do so while she’s in school. 1:00 I help my mom fold another endless load of laundry as I drink my diet coke. C. needs help getting art supplies, so I dig through the high cabinet to find him the watercolors he asks for. I check my school emails, waiting for an email from my teacher for the last class I’ll be taking for my bachelor’s degree. I intend to go back for my Master’s in a year or two, but I want to take some time off from school and work first. My mom makes an early, and we eat alfredo chicken, spinach, garlic bread, and sliced peaches. I drink water with dinner, as I can’t remember for sure if I’ve had any today. I fill up my 40 oz mug with ice and water after dinner and retreat to my room. I play more Animal Crossing until T. comes to ask if I wanna go swimming. I say yes and change into a swimsuit that I ultimately end up covering up with a big red t-shirt. N. and C. come with us, which gives my mom a little space for the afternoon. T. drives to the community pool and it’s not very crowded since it’s been overcast all day. We swim and play Marco Polo with a few kids about N.’s age. T. gets out and sunbathes, and I get cold and walk around the pool keeping an eye on my brothers. We drive back home and make a pomegranate iced tea with honey, and a snack of gouda cheese, a Cutie, and some of the rice crackers I bought previously. My throat feels scratchy, which I feel pretty confident is just allergies, so I pop an allergy pill and go lie down in my room while I zone in and out watching Grey’s Anatomy. 6:30: I’m not hungry, but the rest of my family makes a hodgepodge lunch since we ate dinner mid-day. I prep my coffee and snacks to take in the morning and lie out my clothes too. I run our garbage up to the bins, so animals don’t get into it. When I come back to the house, N. is talking to a teenage boy in the front yard; I’m assuming he’s with the new neighbors a few doors down. Apparently, they’re looking for a package that was delivered to the wrong house, but I haven’t seen it. N. and the boy talk for a few more minutes, but then we both head back inside. I watch another episode of The Mandalorian with my sisters, and then eat some frozen Seafood Shumai and an individual bag of sour cream and onion Ruffle chips. 9:00: I’m tired, so I do my nightly routine; some skincare, clean my teeth, put in my retainer, and watch a few episodes of What We Do In The Shadows. It’s probably my favorite TV show right now, Guillermo and Nandor are my current hype fixation, and I am rooting for them. I set my alarm, do a quick Spanish lesson on Duolingo, then switch to listening to an audiobook, The American Roommate Experience, and fall asleep around 11:15. Daily Expenses: $18.82 Day Four: Wednesday 7:00: I’m up, I have to give myself more time to get ready in the morning, but I’m out the door with my coffee by 7:30. I arrive at work and am working with the three-year-olds all week. I drink my iced Mocha I made at home yesterday and eat a vanilla yogurt provided by work while the kids eat breakfast, then spend the morning asking open-ended questions and guiding free art time. An SLP comes in to work with one of the kids, and we talk a bit about where she went to school; I am hoping to get a master’s in speech pathology and enjoy the opportunity to pick someone’s brain. Before lunch we head out to the playground, and we mix with the other classes. I discuss my plans to teach abroad next year with my co-worker whose daughter taught in Spain last year. She gives me her contact info and I’m excited to touch bases with her soon! 11:30 An early lunch of pizza rolls and corn; work provides lunch, so I eat with the kids, and we discuss types of milk (cow’s, oat, almond). The kids are still transitioning as they all moved up a class with the school year, so there is a lot of crying that happens before and during naptime. I go on my thirty-minute break and drink some diet coke I brought with me. I eat a chocolate cupcake in the teacher’s lounge from someone’s birthday and return to the classroom. I talk and update parents as they come to pick up their kids, and the kids eat a snack of goldfish and juice. Then we’re back on the playground with the preschoolers until the end of day. I get to leave a little earlier than planned and clock out at 4:45. 5:15: I drive home and pick up my brothers for a quick swim at the community pool. I already hit my step goal for today, so I just float and splash with no intention. I drive back home after about 40 minutes and eat leftover red beans and rice and two chicken tacos, plus a lemon spindrift. I’m exhausted, so I go to lie down and re-watch an episode of Grey’s Anatomy. I eat some more rice crackers and contemplate taking a nap. I don’t. I make some green tea to take to work tomorrow and watch another episode of The Mandalorian with my sisters. 9:00: I eat the watermelon that I bought yesterday and take my multi-vitamin gummy, then I drink more water while I throw out leftovers that have gone bad. I wash my face, brush my teeth and put on toner, niacinamide and retinol, CeraVe lotion, and vitamin C eye cream. I put on a grey baggy t-shirt and crawl in bed. I’m tired and after doing my Duolingo I fall asleep at 10:30 watching more What We Do In The Shadows. Daily Expense: $0 Day Five: Thursday 6:50: I wake up before my alarm and throw on my clothes, grey overall shorts and a mushroom print t-shirt; I’m ready for a rough morning with toddlers. I grab my green tea and drink it with ice while I do my basic skincare routine, and a little light makeup. I’m out the door and am at work a little before 8:00. I eat half a piece of banana bread with the kids for breakfast and spend the morning trying to sort out an epi pen mix-up (nothing bad! Just a minor miscommunication about storage). After some free play and potty-training struggles, we head out to the playground to burn off some energy. I’m in charge because my lead teacher is out today, and I’m already worn out. 11:30 We’re back inside from the playground and have lunch. I can’t eat with the kids, too busy cleaning up spilled milk and holding crying toddlers but I’ll eat on my break. They play with some table-top toys while I set out mats and change diapers. They’re finally laying down for nap, but their naptime music won’t work; I finally call another teacher and she thankfully loans me some speakers. 2:00 I wait for my assistant to come back from her lunch, and then I go on my break. I eat the now-cold school provided lunch in my car; BBQ meatballs (three, how is that enough food for anyone?), green beans, clementines, and part of the roll but it’s already too stale in the heat. I drink a diet Sunkist and try to chill out. My phone is dying, but I still browse Amazon while I can. I don’t buy anything but remember that I owe my mom money for picking up my vitamins. I get a notification that I already hit my goal of 10k steps today and there is still so much walking to do. I head back inside, and the kids get up from nap. We diaper and go to the potty and then have a snack. Once everyone is finished, I round up all their stuffies or water bottles that get sent home with them and we go back to the playground. A co-worker that I dislike has caused drama in another class, and I hear all about from another teacher. There are definitely unethical things happening behind the scenes and I am hoping that this co-worker will be fired before another teacher has to file a formal complaint. 5:00 We finally only have a few kids so it’s my turn to leave, and instead of going home I meet T. and B. at the community pool. They brought me my swimsuit and I enjoy the coolness of the water. B. has an allergy headache, so we head home after half an hour. I change into terry cloth shorts and a baggy crop top and eat a slice of leftover pepperoni pizza and a few Cheez-its. I lie on my bed and text my sister-in law about visiting mutual friends when I go abroad next year; I’m hoping to be placed in Thailand, but Spain is more likely at this point. I got paid today, so I check my bank account and check that it’s right. I play Animal Crossing on my switch and then watch an episode of The Mandalorian with my sisters. 9:00 I eat some sourdough toast with butter, a cutie, and a few peanut M&M’s. My stepdad hasn’t eaten at all today and my mom is stressed, so I sit and talk with my stepdad while she showers and calls her sister. He doesn’t say much, and I know that my mom is struggling to accept that he’s on his last leg. I change out his sheets and fix him a nutritional drink; he doesn’t drink it. He falls asleep and my mom comes back and tells me goodnight. I worry about how she’ll cope once he passes, but for tonight I’m just going to do my nighttime routine and forget about it. I brush my teeth, do my skincare, stay in the clothes I changed into before and flop on my bed. I check my school emails, do my Duolingo lesson, and watch Grey’s Anatomy. It’s pretty freaking repetitive, but I find that repetition comforting. I fall asleep a little after 12:00 Daily Expense: $0 Day Six: Friday 6:50 I’m awake and ready for the weekend! I make an iced mocha for work, put on green linen overalls over a yellow t-shirt, moisturize then mascara, eyeliner, brow pencil, and neutral eyeshadow. I’m in the car and at work by 8:00. The kids and I eat mini waffles for breakfast, and they have free play while I work in small groups with manipulative toys. Our sink starts spewing water and I call the maintenance guy to shut off the water in the sink. That means we have to use another classroom’s sink which means we have to do all our diapering in there. Ugh. We head to the playground and the kids play with tricycles and in the sandpit. It is still so long until naptime. 11:30: We go back to our classroom and eat cheese omelets, hashbrowns, melon, and small biscuits. The servings of each are super small and I regret not packing a snack. The kids keep lying down and trying to nap on the floor, so we set out their napping cots a little early. I go on my break but have to come back early so that my co-worker can also go on hers. I work on a classroom art project until nap time ends, then it’s time for snacks and to pack up loveys and anything the kids will need at home for the weekend. 3:30 All the classes join for playground time, and I talk with the co-worker who is likely to be our new director. She wants to know about my plans once I graduate and asks me to please consider working here as a lead teacher; it would be my first salary position and would include 50% increase in pay, plus healthcare. I know this would be great for me and my family financially, but I also feel like my dreams of moving away are becoming smaller and smaller as graduation approaches. I tell her about my plans to teach abroad and that I will give in serious consideration. I don’t want to still be here come January, but I need to be realistic. 5:15: I’m off work and know my mom could use a pick-me-up, so I stop by Sonic’s. The app won’t work, so I pay full price for a diet cherry limeade, a diet coke, and I also buy a chicken tender meal because I am so hungry. I feel like I made ordering difficult on my server, so I tip him the only dollar bill I have ($13.60). I drive home and give my mom the cherry limeade, shower and eat my chicken tenders. The chicken is tough, so I end up eating the tater tots and bread. I’m sad now and feel like I wasted my money. I watch the new episode of What We Do in the Shadows and it just makes me sadder. I feel so much pressure and feel like no one has my back right now. My family is watching tv together and I am too sad to join them. I watch more Grey’s Anatomy, brush my teeth and put in my retainer, and split my attention between watching Grey’s and playing Animal Crossing. I have vague plans to go out tomorrow, but I don’t know where. I do my nightly Duolingo lesson, then just toner and moisturizer for my skincare and then I fall asleep sometime after 1:00. Daily Expenses: $13.60 Day Seven: Saturday 8:00: I don’t want to get out of my bed, but I’m feeling pretty refreshed, so I scroll Facebook for a few minutes before getting up. I weigh myself, feel meh about it, and move on. I’m going grocery shopping today but I’m going to take my sweet time heading out. I sit down and edit my money diary, then do some skincare; basic toner, Good Molecule’s super peptide serum, Farmacy vegan honey collagen serum, and CeraVe mixed with a few drops of Earth Harbor’s superfood luminescence serum. All my more expensive items I received in the occasional Boxy Charm over the years, and now I’m pretty much out of anything nice. I’ve decided to splurge on one nicer skincare item but haven’t chosen one yet. I eat peach cobbler for breakfast and change out of my crop top and shorts. Green joggers, a white T-shirt under a plaid shirt, my beat-up grey Vans plus my basic make-up routine and I’m out the door. 10:15: I stop at a local scratch and dent store that I frequent; the prices are pretty good and I like to buy food that otherwise might be wasted when there is really nothing wrong with it. I stop and talk to the cashier; I can’t remember his name, but we chat every time I stop by. I don’t feel too bad, I know he doesn’t remember mine either. I see a lot of Starbucks coffee and Clif bars, but I’m limiting myself to only using the cash in my wallet and I can’t afford both, so I buy neither. I buy green tea, a bag of candy for my siblings upcoming return to school, a boxed brownie mix, Oreo’s, Cheez-Its, and parmesan cheese. I’ll add this stuff to the family pantry, but I also buy myself some sour skittles, lemonade, and Nut-thin crackers. The cashier rings me up and I fork over $20.50. I still have two dollars in my wallet so I’m happy, but I’ll need to add more spending cash when I go home. I also stop by Dunkin and have a nice interaction with the girl at the register. We commiserate working in drive-thru coffee shops, as I used to work at Starbucks. I buy an iced butter pecan coffee, a glazed maple donut, and a coffee cake muffin for my mom ($7.79). They also give me a free glazed maple donut with sprinkles since it was an ‘oops donut’, and I happily head home with my treats. Taylor Swift comes on the radio, and I roll down my window and enjoy ‘Cruel Summer’. I remember that she added more dates to her Era’s tour for next year and fantasize about buying a ticket. With any luck I’ll be working out of the country anyways, so I try to feel better about not being able to afford tickets. I arrive home and store the groceries, give my mom the muffin and split the extra donut between my younger brothers. I pick up the clothes that have accumulated on my floor this week, renew the library books I still haven’t read, and vacuum my room. I do the dishes that have magically appeared in the sink and finish my coffee and donut. 1:30: I eat lunch and talk with B. about our collective classes starting next week and we plan on a study-buddy session for next Tuesday.. I realize the avocado I bought earlier this week is ripe but I’m missing ingredients for the salsa I had planned. Instead, I cook some shrimp I had in the freezer with garlic and herb seasoning. I slice the avocado and add salt, garlic, and lime juice and mix it all together with the shrimp. I’ll probably eat it over rice this week. I just started my period, and my emotions are starting to get the better of me, so I go take a short nap. 4:00: I can’t fall asleep, so I play Super Mario on my Nintendo Switch. I’m overthinking the job offer my current employer has waiting for me upon graduation; it’s not what I want to be doing, but I’m worried I won’t see another offer like it. This job would start me at $45k a year, which is great money for the position and area. I would be able to help support my family a lot easier than working for $800 a month in Spain or Thailand. But I also know that if I take the job, I’ll probably never leave the area. I remember that it’s pizza and game night. I stick some frozen pizzas in the oven and run the trash up to the bins and enjoy some pizza and Uno with my family. 8:30: After my shower, I perform a few more intense self-care tasks. I wax my underarms, pluck my eyebrows, and put on a nose strip. I’m feeling pretty anxious about my upcoming graduation and know that I’m going to have to make some tough decisions. After I finish my skincare routine, I brush my teeth and put my retainers in. I need to purchase new ones, but they are almost $200. I help my mom fold some laundry and then go to binge watch more What We Do in The Shadows while I do my Duolingo lesson. I’m sleepy but bored, so I flip through ‘Fair Play’ by Eve Rodsky and it only frustrates me on working women and mom’s behalf’s. I watch some unsolved crime videos on YouTube and browse bralettes on Amazon. I switch to ASMR videos and continue flipping through ‘Fair Play’ until I fall asleep at about 12:30. Happy Sunday! Daily Expense: $28.29 At the end of each day please tally up your daily expenses. Then at the end of your diary please tally up all expenses in the following categories: Food + Drink: $88.23 Fun / Entertainment: $0 Home + Health: $27 Clothes + Beauty: $0 Transport: $0 Other: $11 Lastly, reflect on your diary! This was a pretty average-to-low spend week for me. I usually spend less on eating out and more on things like gas for my car and therapy. After hitting my big goal of $15k in savings, I have been splurging on things like Dunkin coffee once a week and extra purchases for my mom. I would like to see more of my spending going to more physical purchases like new jeans or going to the nail salon for gel nails instead of spending on crappy food. I think I tend to focus my spending on smaller amounts for momentary enjoyment versus long term usefulness. Overall I didn’t spend as much money as I thought I might and I’m trying to give myself a little extra grace with all the current stressors in my life. submitted by /u/Little-Ms-Trashmouth to r/MoneyDiariesACTIVE [link] [comments]

I am 28 years old, make $73K, and live in Tribeca, NYC.
Section One: Assets and Debt 401K: $11,147.20. I began contributing in April of this year. No match and my employer had a one year waiting period to begin contributing (plus had to wait for enrollment period). I am on track to max out this year. ROTH IRA: $14,133.29 (opened & maxed out last year and this year). HSA: $4,989.01 (opened and maxed out last year, am on track to max out this year) Bank Savings: $1,871.72 HYSA: $10,011.30 Checking account balance: $6,446.32. I like to keep pretty liquid here because I have a cash flow schedule for the year mapped out since I’m not cash flow positive every month so I keep excess here for those down months. Plus, I am thinking of potentially making two large purchases soon (see “Paid Hobbies” section). Crypto: About $1K (most of which I bought in 2014) Credit card debt: I have 5 credit cards with balances that currently total $579.42. I always pay my statements in full. Student loan debt (for what degree): $21,537.92 BS in finance from a state college. $20K would’ve been forgiven if student forgiveness had gone through. Section Two: Income Income Progression: I got my first job when I was 14 for $7.25/hour and stayed there for five years. Some weeks working 30 hours a week in high school. Everyone said they were so proud of me but I feel like it really set me up to accept being undervalued and overworked for a long time. During that job and afterwards I had a bunch of additional service industry jobs. My current job is my first job with my degree. I am a financial analyst for a women’s contemporary designer brand. In January 2022, I was offered $57K but asked for and received $60K. Everyone in the company got a $2K bonus in December. In March of this year, I was given a $10K raise and I pushed for $3K more to bring it more up to market rate. He makes about $35K a year + tips as a concierge at a hotel. Section Three: Expenses Rent: About $600/mo (including utilities). My bf and I live with his mom in the loft he grew up in. She works in the city on weekdays and usually goes upstate on the weekends. We have a low cost living situation so there is no way I could make the contributions to retirement that I currently am so I am taking full advantage of it while I can. Retirement contribution Savings contribution: I’m not actively contributing to savings but I do have an automatic $50 transfer that goes from my bank checking to savings account every month from when I set up the account. Investment contribution: Am not actively contributing to my personal brokerage while focusing on maxxing out my ROTH IRA, 401K, HSA. Donations: $10 a month to the local radio station (WFMU) that I listen to on a daily basis. Electric: Included in rent Wifi: Included in rent Cellphone: Send my dad $86.76 every month for my portion of the bill. Subscriptions Paid hobbies: I am considering a $415 10 Week French language course and a $1,300 sailing yearly membership! Amazon Prime: $148.21/year (thinking of cancelling – need to do a cost analysis on how much it’s saving us at Whole Foods which is the only grocery store in our neighborhood) Cloud Storage: $50/year Website Domain/Hosting: About $35/year Starfleet (Star Trek fan club): $5/year Credit Card Annual Fee: $95/year iCloud Storage: $2.99/month Money Diary Day 1 – Wednesday 6:55 AM Wake up still exhausted as I went to bed at 1 AM. I push myself out of bed and get ready for the day. I throw on black Madewell jeans, tuck in a striped black & white hand-me-down GAP tee from my cousin, and slide into the black Arizona birks my bf got me for my birthday last year. Not feeling any makeup today. Once presentable, I run across the street to Whole Foods and get ingredients for the dinner that I’m cooking with friends tonight: mezzi rigatoni #26, tomato paste, a hunk of parmigiano reggiano, heavy cream, onion, and garlic ($17.30). When I get home, I sit in the living room and read (Clockwork Orange) while waiting for everyone to wake up and say goodbye before their flight. My bf O’s three cousins from France and their three sons have been staying with us for six nights. It’s been fun but I’m ready to have the bathroom back to myself. 8:15 AM After I say my “au revoirs” and “bon voyages” I walk outside where my coworker, K, is waiting for me. We are meeting up before work solely to catch up on gossip. We walk over to the cute, neighborhood wine bar that serves coffee, Della’s, but I forgot they are closed for morning service in August. My other favorite spots with outdoor seating are in the opposite direction to our office so we just go across the street to Le Pain Quotidien and get cappuccinos ($6.44 including $1 tip). She fills me in on some incredible office drama, we finish our drinks, and walk over to work. 9 AM Arrive to my desk and immediately plug in my heating pad, put on a sweatshirt, and socks. My fingers will still turn blue at some point during the day thanks to the air conditioning. I meet with the finance team and we discuss where we are with month close. Our accounts payable person gives us the “naughty list” of employees who still haven’t turned in their credit card reports. After the meeting, I send out P&Ls to the revenue channels with notes asking for more information on certain lines. 1 PM I’m not hungry yet, but I can’t take the cold anymore and walk home for lunch. I want my usual, daily oats but need to eat some leftovers by today (Mediterranean inspired turkey meatballs, turmeric rice, homemade tzatziki, and Greek salad with chickpeas over arugla & spinach). I start cleaning up the kitchen and organizing the fridge now that our guests have left. I don’t end up eating much of my lunch, so I pack the rest to finish at work along with a clementine. I also didn’t have time to make more coffee so I grab an iced blonde espresso with cream at Starbucks on my walk back to the office since iced drinks are 1/2 off after noon today ($1.76 but already paid for since I had money pre-loaded on my account). 2 PM Back in my desk where I work on management reports and inventory reconciliations for the rest of the afternoon. I eat my food at some point. My “splash of cream” Starbucks drink was filled to the brim with that high calorie goodness, so I take a few sips and put the rest in the work fridge to dilute tomorrow. 6:00 PM I’m outta here. I stop home to grab my groceries from this morning + other ingredients I need, pack an overnight tote, and hop on the PATH train to Hoboken with the last swipe on my MetroCard ($2.75 prepaid). I go to my friend R’s apartment where I cook spicy vodka rigatoni pasta for her and our friend G. G makes a charcuterie board and salad as his contribution while R pour the drinks. 2 AM R and I say goodbye to G for the last time this summer as he heads back to his parents where he’ll then fly back to Michigan where he’s been living since college. We end the night watching Laguna Beach and drinking Aperol Spritzes in R’s bed. Total 23.74 Day 2 - Thursday 6:40 AM Wake up and putz around for a bit getting my stuff together to head home. I walk to Hoboken Terminal (28 minutes) and decide to treat myself to the ferry ($7). I sit on the top deck and enjoy the sunshine, Hudson River views, and gentle breeze in my pajamas next to all the finance bros. It takes me to Brookfield Place and I walk home from there. 7:40 AM Finally home and time to get ready for work. Today, I throw on a free radio station oversized tee, hand-me-down jeans from my cousin’s ex-roommate, birks, and a light swipe of mascara. I make a pot of French press coffee for my thermos. The jeans are cropped so I shave my legs up to about mid shin before I walk out the door. 9 AM It’s not too cold in the office yet but I still have my heating pad on standby. I grab a mug in the kitchen and pour some of the hot coffee from my thermos in there and add some of yesterday’s too creamy espresso in it as creamer. 11 AM I have the remainder of coffee with some cookies that my bf’s cousins brought from where they live in Brittany, France. They taste like pure butter and it’s incredible. I am fully decked out in a sweater, socks, and heating pad at this point. 1 PM I need a reset and walk home for my hour to eat my daily oats. I’ve been eating this almost daily for at least 4 years and never get tired of it: oats, raisins, half a chopped banana, chia seeds, flax seed, cinnamon, dash of salt, and water in the microwave for three minutes. Then I top it with more cinnamon, half of an apple chopped, frozen blueberries, walnuts, and pepitas. I do a French Duolingo lesson to prevent harassment emails from the owl before going back to work. 5:40 PM I leave work a bit early to head to O’s dad’s art show. After running home to drop off my work bag and change into a free sample dress from work, I hop on the 1 train paying with my phone ($2.75) to Chelsea where everyone else already is. When I get there, I see he has three paintings on display in the show, one of which is a personal favorite of mine. I walk around to look at the other art and have a free glass of wine. Some of their family friends come and it’s nice to see everyone. 8:30 PM We celebrate the show by having dinner nearby at Bottino where I order a coke and the tagliatelle Bolognese. It’s me, my bf, his sister, her bf, family friend G, and my bf’s parents. We have a great time. My bf’s mom pays for the table. 10 PM My bf’s mom wants the four of us to take a cab home, but his dad insists on taking the subway. It takes over an hour to get home because he’s beat two cancers in the past few years and walks with a cane these days. I don’t mind and keep him company by walking at a slow shuffle. It’s kinda nice to see the city at this pace. ($2.75 subway). 11:25 PM Home, showered, in bed, and I read for about half an hour before falling asleep. Total $12.50 Day 3 - Friday 5:17 AM Wake up with O’s alarm and agree to join him for his run before work on my roller blades. He usually works 3-11PM Thursday-Sunday but switched to morning shifts yesterday and today with someone so he could go to his dad’s art show. We go up along the Hudson River up to Pier 40 and back down while having a nice, catch-up chat. He’s booking it today and it’s harder than I thought to keep up even on the blades. 6 AM We get back home and I take a shower and do skincare routine (wash face with water, FAB oat toner, Timeless vitamin C, Cerave daily moisturizing lotion, SuperGoop unseen sunscreen). I debate whether to sleep more or be up for the day. O leaves for work. I do the NY Times mini crossword when he sends me his score. 7:40 AM I slept for 40 more minutes and wake back up for the day as I hear O’s parents packing up downstairs. We say our goodbyes as they head upstate. Ever since O’s dad first got sick, he pretty much stays upstate in the little place in the small town that they originally bought 30 years ago for summers. Today is a work from home day and I am able to kill some errands before logging in. I go to Whole Foods for some oats ($8.49/2=$4.25 my portion), cover dry pinto beans in water to cook later, hand wash my dress from last night, start a load of laundry, make a French press coffee with the last of my beans, and throw a pimple patch on. OOTD: my pajamas from last night that I will continue to wear the rest of the day (bf’s old t-shirt and a pair of NY Jets shorts that I have no idea where they came from). 9 AM I log in all set to have a great day, but off course some data in our ERP is wrong and I immediately get discouraged. I constantly get criticism from the CEO about how I’m analyzing the data but since I’m also the one producing it, I barely get the time to look at it before deadlines to send it out. 11:30 AM I eat my usual oats. 2 PM Eat the small bit left of my panini & onion rings that we ordered from Benvenuto on Tuesday. 3:30 PM Still hungry so I heat up a little leftover lentil soup and a piece of rosemary sourdough. 4:15 PM I throw the now soaked pinto beans on stove to cook to use for tomorrow’s dinner. O is home from work and gets a $165 bill from Urgent Care for a PCP covid test in June he took to use sick days at work. He says they told him it would be free, and I get a little upset when he pays it instead of calling to ask. He would rather pay it be done with it instead of drag it out. I remind him that it’s 10 days of eating out for lunch at work for him. Ultimately, I drop it and remind myself to let go of control, but still think about it. 6 PM Finally done!! I log out & decompress on the couch for a bit before cooking dinner. Usually Friday night is our pizza night where we order a grandma’s pie with pepperoni. But I need to use up groceries/leftovers/random food his cousins left so I cook tonight. I make a vegetable frittata, salad, and dress up some leftover fries with lemon and oregano. O and I eat dinner together and afterwards split doing dishes and folding laundry. 9 PM O works on his music while I shower, get ready for bed, and organize some things on my computer. 10:20 PM We come back together to watch something. O suggests Ken Burn’s Ernest Hemingway docuseries so I sign up for PBS 7 day free trial through Amazon to watch it. We snack on some popcorn, apples & peanut butter, dark chocolate, and I have some spearmint tea. 11:45 I can’t make it through a whole episode tonight, so I go up to bed to read then sleep. In the summer O sleeps on the couch next to the AC while I sleep in our lofted bed above the living room/kitchen where the heat rises (I love to be warm). Total spent $4.25 Day 4 - Saturday 9:30 AM O woke up and thought I wasn’t home and uses “Find My” on his phone to see where I am. He realizes that I’m sleeping literally 15 feet above him and wakes me up with a “Good morning!” I come downstairs to cuddle, do skincare, a Duolingo lesson, and put dishes away. O eats oatmeal. I throw on a cropped tee from my sister’s merch and a pair of navy sport shorts from my cousin. 11AM We go for coffee at Laughing Man and pass a guy who looks familiar. My bf asks me if I saw that was the Mayhem commercial guy, I realize he is Dennis from 30 Rock. O pays for my iced espresso with cream and uses a reward to get his iced oat matcha latte for free. We walk over to “Open Streets” on Broadway to see all the runners and bicyclists as we sip our drinks and then walk home. 12:15 PM I go to grocery store & get clementines, bananas, mushrooms, red bell pepper, lime, tomatoes, cilantro, red onion, jalapeño, 1 avocado, sour cream, & tortillas ($22.96/2=$11.48) 2 PM Eat my oats and lazily read random things on my phone while lying on the couch. O heads to work. 3:30 PM Finally get up to wash my dish. It’s 86 degrees out but cloudy and that feels cold to me so I don’t feel like going to a museum or something like I had planned. Need some necessities so walk to Target for mouth wash ($11.09). I don’t see any Vanicream in the tub without the pump, so I try two CVS stores before giving up. I will use my daytime moisturizer at night for now. I’m near the newly reopened Century 21 and pop in to see if there are any good bathing suits on sale, but don’t see anything I like. 5 PM Back home I put on the movie Charade while I clean two pairs of white sneakers, do a load of laundry, fully shave my legs, do a 10-minute Pilates video, throw together my quesadilla and lazily bake it in the oven instead of cooking on stovetop, organize clothes, shower, download all my July financial statements in Excel, and make my grocery list for tomorrow. Stare at myself in the mirror while sitting on the floor and cry a little for no reason. 11 PM In bed reading. Fall asleep around midnight Today’s total: $22.57 Day 5 Sunday 7:30 AM My alarm goes off. Lay in bed for 15 minutes staring at the ceiling then get up and do morning routine. OOTD: white pair of free sample pants from work, gray crop top I bought online 10 years ago, & birks. Walk to a coffee shop, Gotan, and pay my “rent” to sit on their terrace ($5 regular cappuccino + $1 tip). This is one of my favorite spots to sit outside. I read my book. 9:30 AM Overhear a man tell his wife, “We gotta boycott this place. They don’t take bills over 20, it’s fucking ridiculous.” Tribeca problems. I take this as my cue to leave. Walk home to drop off my book and pick up my grocery bag. Go to Whole Foods and get beets, cucumbers, radishes, red cabbage, green onion, and tofu. ($15.60/2 = $7.80) 10 AM Time for more caffeine, but I remember that I’m out of coffee grounds. Lately I’ve been buying them at the shop across the street from my work so I will wait until Tuesday to restock. I find some dark roast (I like light roast), ground for drip machine (we only have a French press), old Starbucks grounds in the back of our fridge and make use of it. It’s disgusting, but I add a healthy amount of heavy cream to make it taste better. I sip this while importing all my July financials into my personal budget spreadsheet and review. I make some forecast adjustments for August and the remainder of the year and also write some commentary on lines with any notable variances. Hang out with O while he eats breakfast and we laugh a lot. 1 PM Get naked, slather myself in sunscreen, throw on a bikini, and cover that with an oversized tshirt & shorts. I walk over to Battery Park to lay out by the water. I scan the lawn to find the largest concentration of sunbathing girls, set up camp in the middle for safety, and strip down to read. I finish my book. O is headed to work and confirms my upcoming birthday plans via text. On my birthday this year I have work and then need to be up early the next day for a wedding we’re going to so we’re keeping it chill by getting breakfast BECs & tahini coffee slushies at the Ediths at Tiny’s popup before I go to work and then grabbing burgers at the Odeon after so that we can be home and in bed early. 4 PM I intended to lay out for 45 minutes, but the sun felt so good that I stay for 3 hours. A group of guys set up spike ball nearby and hit me three times with the ball. Each time they run over and say “I’m so sorry.” Sure. Then a group on my other side start throwing around a football that keeps falling near my towel. I decide to pack up and go home. I am hit with the spike ball one last time. Once home I eat piece of sourdough with goat cheese, arugula, leftover frittata, and chalula hot sauce. For the rest of the evening I finish cleaning my shoes, shower, make dinner, watch The 2006 MTV fat camp documentary that popups on my Youtube homepage, and take out the trash. 8:15 PM Turning in early tonight. Spend some time looking up recipes and random info on my laptop. I brought Mrs. Darling by Virginia Woolf upstairs to read and instead reach for my copy of Myth of Sisyphus that I keep next to my bed. Sometimes I scream underlined favorite passages out loud to myself, but my bf’s mom just came home so I quietly start reading from the beginning. Turn off the lights and go to bed around 10:30. I’m nearly asleep and then reach for my phone to search “PTO comp” on the /r/FPandA subreddit. My two weeks of accrued vacation, three given PTO days, and ten sick days (that HR told both me and my coworker that we’re not actually supposed to use all ten of) don’t seem so hot after reading some threads. Todays total: $13.80 Day 6 Monday 5:30 AM? Wake up to the sound of rain pouring down on the windows. My alarm is set for 6 so I know it’s before then. Turn off alarm and decide to sleep in and enjoy the rain in bed this morning instead of going on a run as planned. 7:30 AM Wake up for real this time and bullshit on my phone for a bit before getting up and going to Whole Foods. Grocery haul: lime, a red pepper, potatoes, onions, parsley, and chicken legs ($16.92/2=$8.46). I can’t stand the idea of paying $1.29/lb for the loose russet potatoes so I buy a 5 pound bag for $0.60/lb. I guess I’m making pierogis later this week. The idea of drinking more of the Starbucks coffee from yesterday makes me sick so I grabbed some quarters from our change bucket before the grocery and buy a large black coffee from the coffee cart guy on the corner, A ($2). We chat for a bit about our families and his recent trip home to Egypt. I head home to put groceries away. I add cream to the coffee and take a sip, tastes like heaven. 9 AM My whole body fills with dread and despair as I log on. The CEO had sent me an email Friday night that I refused to look at until now. He had added me to a thread about a breakdown between virtual and in-store sales and asks me why I never included these very important metrics into my commentary. I didn’t even know this report existed and was something that was distributed. I respond by apologizing and that I will include it in the future. I have a catch-up call with the finance team and we discuss the day ahead. 10:20 AM I eat my oats and put on Frances Ha to have play in the background as I work. I have to pause twice because of emotional turmoil that I need to process and walk away from for a while before continuing to watch. Seeing people uncomfortable or sad makes me feel physically ill which I need to get over. 2 PM While sitting on the toilet my phone notifies me that my Team meeting has started. I forgot I have a meeting, thankfully it’s with my friend. She was promoted into a different role and I go over some files that she’ll be working with from the finance team. 3 PM Hunger strikes so I assemble and eat a quesadillas half from my portion of the leftovers. 6 PM I made it!! With haste, I log off and marinate chicken for dinner. I hurt my leg somehow so I hop on the free Downtown Connection bus in front of Whole Foods. At the Seaport I get off the bus and head straight to Funny Face Bakery where they sell my favorite chocolate chip cookie. I feel put on the spot when the cashier swings the iPad towards me and tip $0.60 like complete schmuck ($7.13). With cookie secured in my tote, I then walk next door to McNally Jackson books and buy a copy of Babel-17 ($19.60). I justify it by telling myself there were no copies at my local library, I’m supporting small business (especially an independent book store), I’m on my period, and lastly it’s my birthday month. I walk home very slowly and only take a partial scenic route to get home quicker. 7:15 PM Using my groceries from today and some spices from when we went to Guadeloupe in February, I cook Chicken Colombo. O, his mom, and I sit together, eat, and talk for awhile. Afterwards O washes the dishes, I pack up leftovers for the fridge, and take a shower. 10 PM We watch more Hemingway doc while having popcorn, spearmint tea, and my cookie (I originally planned on eating half since it’s huge but I eat the whole thing). Day Total 35.19 Day 7 Tuesday 7 AM Wake up to my alarm but lay in bed with my eyes closed for half an hour then start writing this diary and get ready for work. I throw on a sweater from my cousin and flared, cropped dress slacks that I bought from Zara. No makeup today. 8:45 Walk to work. Stop at Bean and Bean Wall St. first (finally) and get a bag of their downtown blend ground for French press. It comes with a free hot/iced coffee but you can upgrade to espresso drink for $1. The cashier forgets to charge me the dollar for my cappuccino. I tip a buck for the coffee and a buck for grinding the beans ($21). I drag my feet to the office. 12:45 As usual I’m not hungry but cold. My leg is still killing me so I limp home for oats and regret not bringing them to office. 1:35 At home, my bf makes me feel better and I return back to work feeling in better spirits. Finish out the day with an almost 2-hour meeting. 6 PM Survived another day in the cold, bright office. As I’m walking home I see on my phone that O stopped at Whole Foods and charged me $3.34 for frozen blueberries on Splitwise. At home, I start getting ready for dinner. I wear that same sample dress from work that I wore for his dad’s art show since it’s nice but casual and dress it up with black heels. I do a full face of makeup which for me means BB cream, concealer, bronzer, blush, mascara, and setting spray. I have blonde hair, blue eyes, and very red lips so I am scared of ever adding more color to my face and looking like a clown. We say goodbye to O’s mom and take the 6 from City Hall up to Grand Central ($2.75 via my phone). 8 PM We arrive to Benjamin Prime Steakhouse and are seated at our table. For the winter holidays last year, they gave gift cards to my bf and the rest of his coworkers since the hotel sends so many guests there. On my phone I pull up the spreadsheet I made calculating how we can best utilize the gift card while leaving money on it for him to get lunch one or two times. I order a glass of wine for me, iced tea for O, fresh calamari appetizer, porterhouse steak for two, mashed potatoes, creamless creamed spinach, onion rings, and lobster mac & cheese. It is so good. My bf pays with his gift card and they return it saying there’s $35 left which means the meal was $265. At least three guys come out and talk to my bf and shake his hand saying thanks for always sending people their way. They also bring out complimentary limoncellos. O is three years sober (we started dating six years ago when he was a bartender) so I have to drink for the both of us. It’s so sweet that I can only drink half of one. We leave $60 cash as a tip ($20 from me because I eat less than him) and take the train home ($2.75). 10 PM We are now showered, full, cozy in our pjs and watch more Hemingway before bed. I snack on some dark sweet cherries and dark chocolate with a spearmint tea. Today’s Total: $28.84 Total Expenses: Home + Health: 11.09 Groceries: 52.63 Food & Drink: 62.57 Transport: 18.00 Other: 19.60 Total: 163.89 Reflection: This is a pretty good reflection of my spending although I did pick a bit more of an interesting week as we do not usually go to steakhouse and Italian dinners on the weekdays. I find a lot of fulfillment from cooking, eating good food, drinking nice coffee, spending time with loved ones, and being outside. I live pretty frugally because I like keeping things simple and also because I am trying to play catch up for all the years I wasn’t able to save for my future due to low paying service jobs. That said, I do have a few times a month where I’ll go out for the night and easily spend $30-$100 on drinks and drunk fast food. It’s a balance for me. I think I live well which again is all thanks to my blessed living situation and the low cost there. I also never thought I could make this much money and that still blows me away. I am very lucky and acknowledge that every day. submitted by /u/basicamongstbougie to r/MoneyDiariesACTIVE [link] [comments]

I am 28 years old, make $200,000+, live in SF, work as a marketer. I was a mid level employee that got acquired.
Section One: Assets and Debt Retirement Balance $120,342 - $114k of that is 401K and $6K of that is a Roth IRA I started 2 months ago and decided to max out for the year. My company matches 100% (+ profit sharing) and I put in about $1650 total every month, for the past 2 years, which includes the matching and sharing. It started with a lump sum of $40,000 from a previous company that did not match. I also put a portion of bonuses aside into 401K. Savings account balance $44,683 - $16k in a HYSA and $28k in my credit union savings account Checking account balance $16,287 Credit card debt $4,398 - I put literally everything on my credit card except for rent and pay it off every month. Student loan debt 0, I paid it off last year. Bachelor’s degree in Europe (much cheaper). Anything else that's applicable to you - $33,438 in Robinhood. I started investing a year ago at the beginning of the pandemic and about $11,000 is returns. Section Two: Income Income Progression: I've been working in my field for 9 years, my starting salary was $30,000. I job hopped once a year for the first four years in startupland and went 30k, 65k, 85k, and then down to 75k for a job I really wanted. At that job I grew significantly in my role, and then got a competing offer from another company, 2 years in, for $125k. I was really planning to leave, but I was counter offered by my then-current company for $135k and I accepted and stayed. Good thing I did, because within 4 months we were acquired and I was onboarded to my current role where my base pay is $139,000 and I make a quarterly bonus of about $20-26k every 3 months. At the time of acquisition I also received $45,000 in cash. I’ve been here 2 years and don’t plan on leaving for, like, anything. I make a ton of money for my age and really enjoy my job. This company treats employees very well and healthcare is 100%, including copays and deductibles, across dental and vision too. Annual raises are about 3%. Main Job Monthly Take Home: My take home after tax is $6203 per month in base pay plus $3,500 in net pay from my quarterly bonus divided into months. So, $9,403 total take home. Base Pay Monthly Deductions: $3440 to tax, and $535 to 401k (same amount matched by the company). Bonus Deductions: 45% of my bonus goes to tax. $2,226 (10%) of this latest one went to 401k. Section Three: Expenses Rent: $1825 for my half of rent with my boyfriend (total is $3650 per month) Renters insurance: $16 Savings contribution: $1,000 a month direct from my paycheck, and I’ll throw in more when my checking account goes above $15k Investment contribution: It’s pretty ad-hoc, but typically put in a couple thousand every couple months into Robinhood. Debt payments: I pay off my credit card every month, and that can range between $2,000-$10,000 per month depending on what I buy as well as if I’m paying for a lot of things for myself and my boyfriend. I like to get the points, and he venmo's me for his half of things. Donations: I volunteer a few hours a month as a ‘big sister’ and donate between $50-$300 a month depending on what’s going on in the world. Electric: $90 (I pay half) Wifi/Cable/Landline: $70 (I pay half) Cellphone: NA, company pays Subscriptions: $390 on personal beauty and clothing subscriptions, and I do Imperfect Produce for groceries every week which is between $50-150 depending on what I order each week. Gym membership: About $400 a month on Barry’s Bootcamp As a couple we spend about $2,000 a month on groceries, booze, going out, juul pods and weed. 7 Day Money Diary Day 1: Took an in-person Barry’s class in the AM, ($35) and bought a water while I was there ($3.50). For lunch I made a wrap with the groceries in my fridge. Similar with dinner, cooked with groceries. I saw a girl this weekend in a gorgeous blazer so I bought 2 from Zara online and added a few other things - hot tip: Zara has the best fragrances and they’re really cheap. I swear by them. ($298 at Zara). Then I had the shopping itch so I spent $120 buying a couple things online from Quince. Daily expense: $456.50 Day 2: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner at home. But my Imperfect Produce box of weekly groceries arrived, and I spent $140 (which I split with bf, so $70). That’ll get us through most of the week, and I create a spreadsheet of all the items and sort them into meals. There are certain things I still go to Whole Foods for, and find myself always managing to drop $150 when I’m there, but that’s a couple times a month. Daily Expense: $70 Day 3: Food at home. My Zara clothes arrived. Very happy with them so won’t be doing any returns. Barry’s class on their at-home network is $20 a class, and I did one today. I also booked a trip for next week. I was supposed to go to a wedding in Europe but the covid precautions in that country make it almost impossible to pay for and go through with. The plane tickets I’ve moved, and I cancelled everything else. I’m really sad about it because it's for one of my closest friends. So instead I booked a mini trip somewhere possible, using airline points and paid $976 for a hotel, that I’ll split with my boyfriend. I leave next Thursday. I’ll add the hotel expense here, but since I had already paid for my Europe trip and got refunded for it, I actually didn’t spend more than I had planned to on a trip this month, and got more refunded than I’ve spent. Daily Expense: $508 Day 4: Got free tickets to a comedy show tonight, but the venue has a two drink minimum per person. BF and I went and spent $76 together, which we’ll both pay half of. That was my only expense today. We drove there in his car (I don’t have one) and parking was free. Good show! Yay for being a month vaccinated now and able to do things like this. Daily Expense: $38 Day 5: Ordered some skincare restocks for myself from Sephora ($186). Went to a friend’s house tonight to watch a show together, and brought prosecco and prosciutto ($43). Ordered more Nespresso pods for the apartment ($35). Grabbed some fresh flowers for the house from the bodega downstairs ($22). Daily Expense: $286 Day 6: No expenses today aside from Barry’s at home class. 20 bucks. Pretty sure a Peloton would be cheaper than all of this, now that I write it out. Daily Expense: $20 Day 7: A friend asked me to donate to a fundraiser he’s doing. I donated $100 and the fees were $6. I also invited my ‘little sister’ (volunteer program for at risk youth) over to bake cupcakes in a couple days, and realized I don’t have any of that stuff, so I spent $54 on Amazon on cupcake tins, wrappers, cake mix, and decorating tools. I’ll include that in charity donations summary since all of it’ll leave my house and when I drop her home I’ll be dropping excess cupcakes off at her after school club. Daily Expense: $160 Totals for the week: Food + Drink: $186 Fun / Entertainment: $0 Home + Health: $100.50 Clothes + Beauty: $604 Travel: $488 Charity Donations: $160 Total: $1528.50 Reflection: That was a pretty average week. Maybe slightly higher than normal. I’m not sure how I feel reading all of that back. On the one hand, I feel vapid and entitled. On the other hand, I’m extremely grateful about where my life is. I’m a very generally happy person and I do not take things for granted. I didn’t start ‘making money’ until 2ish years ago and I think I’ve done pretty well at using it to save and put aside for retirement. Before that, I had no savings. I had a bit of a crisis when the acquisition happened and I got my first bonus. I really was like, what? I don’t deserve this. And I really don’t. I love my job but I’m just doing marketing. Nothing special. I’m not curing cancer. I also went through a lot of guilt over covid about how hard healthcare workers were working as well as how many of my friends got laid off. I just answer emails in PJs all day. I started my HYSA as a safety fund for a couple friends in the restaurant industry who were laid off, and told them I had their back if they needed to pay their rent. Only one friend ended up asking for $500, which I gave them. But it’s an awkward thing to push on friends, so the fund has just… grown. I don’t have as much guilt over how much money I make anymore, but I do try to enjoy it as well as save it/make investments. If I ever do want to leave my company, I probably won’t make this much. So I keep that in mind. I’m working on being better about tracking expenses, and I have a spreadsheet that tracks everything every month and I charge my boyfriend for 50% of our shared expenses. I also plan meals there so things don’t go to waste. I can’t afford a house here in SF, and probably never will, so I’ll most likely keep saving and buy a property to rent someone in a random part of America at some point. I’m trying to learn how to build wealth long term and that seems like part of a plan, lol. If anyone has any tips, let me know. I also have a lot of guilt when I go out with friends who make a lot less than me. I have a couple specific friends who put things on my tab and don’t pay me back, and I’m incredibly awkward about asking for that. I can think of about $250 in the last two months I spent going out with a particular friend who hasn’t Venmo’d me, and I’ve just let it go. I know it’s bad money management but I get weird about asking for it. It’s weird, in SF I have friends making 50-60k but also friends making 500k, 800k, and many who have exited and had multi million dollar payouts. So I don’t really know where I fit and feel both inadequate but also insanely blessed. I also wanted to do this for those interested in life post-acquisition. In SF you assume people who get acquired have millions. And that’s true for some people, but laid out right here is the truth for someone like me. Early employee, non technical. I think some of my friends think I probably got millions, but we’re not close enough for me to ask them, or correct that. Final thing, BF and I are likely going to get married next year, so some of this will go to that. We’ll probably combine incomes after that. A close family member to him has cancer, and it’s not looking awesome, so we’ll probably contribute very heavily there. Trying to save and keep that in mind. BF makes $110K. Anyway, let me know if you have any questions, observations, or tips! submitted by /u/happyskittles to r/MoneyDiariesACTIVE [link] [comments]

[misc] I used a skincare fridge for a week, here are my thoughts
https://imgur.com/a/OEBFGaw https://imgur.com/a/c6WaUfd I saw some 'beauty gurus' on Instagram using mini fridges to store their makeup/skincare and I thought it was so cute that I had to get one for myself. I bought mine from Amazon.ca (I'd share the link but I bought the last one and it's sold out) for $53 with taxes. It can fit 6 pop cans or 4 water bottles. It comes with a cord to plug in the wall and has a switch for cool, warm (which I've never tried), or off. Products I have in my fridge: Benzagel 5% Benzoyl Peroxide cream Clinique All Over clearing treatment The Ordinary Niacinamide and Zinc solution The Ordinary Salicylic Acid solution Glow Recipe Watermelon moisturizer Top shelf: Glamglow Supermud mask Laneige Water Sleeping mask (mini size) Fresh Rose moisturizer (mini size) Origins Avocado sleeping mask Origins Retexturizing Rose Clay mask Belif Aqua Bomb moisturizer (mini size) Laneige Water Bank moisturizer (mini size) Laneige Water clay mask (mini size) Door compartment: Origins Ginzing Moisturizing Gel (mini size) A bunch of Sephora clay masks I got as samples I think it makes sense to put your skincare products in the fridge to maintain the longevity of them and to keep them away from sunlight. It feels so refreshing on the skin when applying toner and face masks when they're cold. I love The Ordinary's serums, but the only issue I had with them was that they take a long time to absorb into the skin. Having them in the fridge made them absorb SO much quicker, which can be a bit of a time saver when applying skincare in the morning. I was thinking of buying more expensive serums because I was annoyed at how long they take to absorb, but now I can keep repurchasing cheap serums from The Ordinary. One of the issues I thought I would encounter was the noise level of the fridge. It is a little noisy, it sounds like a bathroom fan but less loud. I keep mine in my bedroom and after a couple minutes you forget it's even on. It's like white noise. I actually think I sleep better with the noise, it's like ASMR lol. I love my fridge and I'll definitely continue to use it. It's not something necessary that you absolutely have to get, but it's definitely nice to have. submitted by /u/BananasAndButtholes to r/SkincareAddiction [link] [comments]
