I waited for a few years before putting starlink on the big boat. It's the wedge mount with the Gen 3 router. It's awesome. I can't wait for the GB speeds that are supposedly coming sometime this year. It's a game changer for sure. Stream movies, etc. Connection is solid with no disruptions.

The ONLY mount the technician brought I couldn’t use. They said they also can’t work on metal roofs, so he just plopped it into the yard, put a random hole into some drywall and called it a day. I decided to fabricate this and bolted the starlink mount too it. Works great and is perfectly aligned! EDIT: I appreciate everyone’s concerns, and with them in mind will be taking it down immediately. I won’t be taking the post down and I’m glad I made the post! I recently got my Starlink Mini and am so happy with the service. I have three different vehicles I want to use my Starlink with, and due to the differences between the way it will be attached to these vehicles I would like to buy three mounts (one with suction cups, one with permanent adhesive, and another with a roof rack mount) so I can move the Starlink easily between vehicles without disassembling or removing the individual mounts. I'm considering starlink as my failover solution but the only place I could mount it is a covered balcony. What does "2 minutes every hour" realistically mean? 2 continuous minutes dead every hour? 6 seconds dead every 3 minutes? 2 seconds dead every minute? Just a high packet loss rate? So I live out in the mountains where there is very often no cell coverage, so I have been using a Starlink mini in the truck for some of the longer drives I do to be able to still keep in touch and do meetings etc. Up until now I have been just sitting it on the front dash pointed out the front window for connection. This is not a great solution since it glares off the front and could potentially interfere with the airbags. It is a Gen2 R1T, so using the glass roof does not work (the dynamic glass roof has metal and blocks the connection). So the best solution I came up with was to mount it to the rear crossbar. It seems to work very well so far. I am not happy with the wiring currently and plan to see if I can route it through the upper bed mounting area (where the crossbars snap in) into either behind the existing bed outlets or into the gear tunnel. For now this works though. I am using the Starlink mount from Starlink for crossbar mounting and some 3D printed crossbar inserts to hold the wire through the crossbar. I have small cable clips holding the cable along the top of the trackbed above the cover and then it tucks in at the tailgate. The inside is a mess and the reason why I want to implement a better solution by routing it inside. I thought I would share in case someone else was looking for a similar solution. **Edit** I am also wondering if I actually need the Connect+ anymore. I guess I would lose the live gear guard and would need to keep the outlets on all the time. In UK if it helps, England. I order starlink yesterday, the residential. The one that's costing 75, because it's the fastest WiFi for me. It is including free professional installation, but the install schedule site is saying I must buy the mount? Is it true? I thought it would come with it. I thought it would go on top of my roof like this (circled in red) . The red line is where I'd like the cable to go, and in to my bedroom (other people live here, it's supported living). I have a crazy idea... I fish in an area that has zero service - to get there, we also drive through an area that has zero phone service for about 2.5 hours or so. I see plenty of sunroof mounts for Starlink Mini, and I'm really considering this as an option for some of our road trips. It seems like that's easy to power it off the truck. When we go fishing, I was also considering mounting it on the boat. Long story short, last year I had a family member have a medical emergency. iPhone Satellite was amazing - but it was painstaking waiting for updates and keeping the phone connected. A call would have been so much easier. I was thinking this could be an option to keep us connected. The boat does not provide 120v power, but it does have a 12v "cigarette plug" style outlet. I have never used the "cigarette plug" on the boat before - but I would want to be SUPER careful to not drain the motor's main battery, as that would be bad - stranded an hour away from civilization bad. But, I was looking at the DeWalt adaptors and it seems like we could get 2-3 hours off my 6ah 20/60v flexvolt batteries. If I can be assured the draw wouldn't impact the starter batteries, I could consider an inverter off the cigarette plug, or hardwired to the batteries. I also have to ask, how "water resistant" is all the StarLink equipment? What needs to be protected versus potentially being exposed to the elements? Did a Starlink install recently in about −1°F weather and figured I’d share some notes from the low-voltage side in case it helps someone else. This was a new build where the exterior mount had already been installed by the builder, but once we got on the lift it became obvious the standoff wasn’t far enough off the house to fully clear the eave. Builder ended up extending the mount outward so the dish had proper clearance. CAT cable entry was already stubbed into the attic, but the termination location wasn’t ideal, so a new run had to be pulled down into a closet where the router and backup WAN equipment lived. All cabling was tested before final termination. Starlink is the primary WAN, with a Cradlepoint configured as failover. If Starlink drops, traffic automatically rolls over to the cradle point connection. EDIT: 50m cable. Not 150m cable as title says. The separation of the three dishes are fine. — While running speed tests on all 3, simultaneously, it benches over 1.2-1.5Gbps+. Each utilizing Starlink OEM 50m cable to the top floor electrical room. The electrical room has a UPS (2U 1500VA) with a dedicated 120VAC/20A circuit. I had been researching different ways people mount their starlink. I worried about something I would have to take down and put up each time I stopped. Worried about while it’s out there if someone might snatch it. Did some research and found that starlink had almost no data loss through fiberglass. I mounted mine on top of this cabinet using child safety latches and honestly it works great. Went through parts of Idaho this week where I had zero cell reception but was still listening to my streamers and could use internet functions when stopped. Just thought I would share for other people driving a Tupperware truck that this is a pretty simple solution that you really don’t have to mess with. In light of the unprovoked and unnecessary tariffs imposed by United States on Canada, would there be any support in banning Elon Musk's products in Canada entirely, or at least organizing a boycott? I'm worried about what this might mean for the future of democracy in the US. Some people are saying that the time to do something was at the polls, but even if not enough people voted, ~74 million people (edit: ~75 million) voted for Harris while ~77 million people voted for Trump. It's not right to act as if no one or only few people voted and give up saying non-Republicans had their chance to prevent what will unfold. Time: 01/04/2025 2318Z Location: 20 miles NE of Williamsport Airport(KIPT) @ 30,000ft I've been flying corporate aviation the better part of 16 years. Flown all over the world and many of my hours have been at night, I'm accustomed to seeing how things are supposed to look. Never seen anything unexplained in all my career, the wildest would be a newly launched Starlink chain and some rocket launches.. Last year I invested in a very high spec pair of NVG goggles, mainly to look at the stars from home and to hike around in the woods with at night. I like bringing them on flights at night to look at the stars. This particular trip we were heading to Newark NJ (KEWR) from the Western US. Having been following the "drone" situation out there and this being a night flight I was looking forward to bringing my NVGs on this particular flight. We were cruising at 45,000 ft Eastbound and the sun began to set. We started our descent around 300 miles from our destination. It was dark enough around 250 miles out that I could start using my goggles. At 250 miles away the entire area around NY, NJ & PA looked like the cameras on the red carpet at the Oscars from all the strobe lights on aircraft over the East Coast. You could see plenty of stars, satellites & even watched the ISS overhead. Upon descending through around 33,000 ft, and with my naked eye and that of my co-pilot, we saw an incredibly bright bluish light, approximately our altitude, and roughly 10 miles away at my 11 0'clock.(I was in the left seat flying). Distances can be deceiving at night and I came up with that distance based on the size of the light, it was rather large. I should also point out we had nothing on our TCAS(a traffic collision avoidance system using transponders of aircraft), nor anything on Foreflight using ADS-B. The light was getting larger and heading directly at us at approximately our altitude(at this point we were reaching 28,000 ft). I looked through my goggles to get a different view and zero strobe lights or a beacon flashing were showing. Just a round single point of light. The point of light shifted from heading directly towards us to moving past our left wing. It passed within I would approximate 3 miles, staying incredibly bright past my 10'o'clock, 9 o'clock, & upon reaching my 8 o'clock position the light shut off, and a single flashing red light appeared. Throughout this event I switched between looking at it with my naked eye and back to the goggles. I got a very clear view of it directly off my left side through the goggles. It was an oblong sort of circle with a single point of very bright light shining straight at us, like a car in headlights. Its speed was not anything unusual and was about the speed of a normal aircraft passing by. I tried running through a series things to disprove what I saw. Normally climbing through 18,000ft you turn off your landing lights and are left with just your strobes and a beacon lights. Okay so maybe they forgot to turn them off all the way up to 28,000ft and also forgot to turn their strobe and beacon on, which is highly unlikely but possible. The really weird thing is that as it passed my and went to my 8 o'clock position the landing lights face forward, these would not have looked like a spotlight shining at me. My next thought was maybe they had the wing light on(this illuminates the leading edge of the wing to look for ice). If this were the case it was slightly above my altitude and still would not have looked as bright or direct as this did(even with the naked eye it was incredibly bright. The the fact the light simply turned off and a blinking red light appeared(which I saw through the goggles and my naked eye), was very strange. Also, had we been down at a much lower altitude I would have chocked it up to a helicopter with a rotating spotlight mounted on it, but I've never seen a helicopter up at 33,000ft. Also ATC would have informed us of aircraft at that location and altitude, and our TCAS would have shown an aircraft. My one regret was not calling ATC to ask if an aircraft was at that location, even though it did not look like one. Also I did not bother with a video because they never show up correctly at night and I didn't want my attention diverted away from simply observing what I was seeing. No clue what that was but it was strange. I've included a screenshot of us on ADS-B, no aircraft meeting that location, altitude or description. The one 737 to the almost 6 o'clock position in the screengrab was at 38,000 feet and not in the correct location or direction of travel from what I observed. My aircraft is the blue one lowest in the image.
