Birthday Haul + Reviews
Hello dear r/Perfumes ! I have been into this delightful hobby for only about 6 months but have been enjoying learning from you all. For my birthday I ordered a full-size cheapie and a bunch of samples, and I figured this sub might appreciate some mini reviews. There are seven randos I was interested in plus I ordered Montale's best sellers sample set. Since this post got way too long, I am going to post the seven randos first and put the Montale set in another post. Let me know what you think of these fragrances! Do you have any recommendations for me? Tache de Café by Le Monde Gourmand: you sit at a musky wooden desk; in the distance a barista makes a bittersweet mocha. 5/5 Notes: saffron and pepper, skin musk, amber, photorealistic coffee, dark rich cocoa, understated vanilla sweetness Performance: 3/3 long lasting but not overwhelming Thoughts: I hated French Coffee, way too plasticy and sweet. This is what I was looking for! Unisex, intriguing, comforting. Extremely wearable and great lasting power. The sweeter notes are balanced nicely by the spices and musk, making it a good everyday choice. Gris Charnel by BDK Perfums: coconut milk rice pudding served with a chunk of sandalwood. 3/5 🥥🍚 Notes: coconut milk, sandalwood, cardamom, tea, tonka Performance: 3/3 moderate lasting power, strong Thoughts: Creamy, fruity, and borderline gourmand, but not sweet. Yummy, cozy, and relaxing, but I feel underwhelmed. Perfectly unisex. I'll have to revisit this in the cooler months. I don't get any fig? Molecule 05 by Escentric Molecules: applying powder in a forest while wearing flannel. 4/5 🪵🌲 Notes: powder, damp downed trees, a touch of soap, vetiver, moss, tonka?, and something animalic... how is a single molecule fragrance this multifaceted? Performance: 2/3 long lasting, subtle Thoughts: THIS is cashmeran?! Bath and Body Works has me conditioned that when I see cashmere as a note I expect warm ambery vanilla, and this is NOT that! If BBW's "cashmere" is warm-cozy, then cashmeran is cool-cozy. Much more green than I expected. Although I think this is unisex, it might be too masculine for me personally. This is a clean scent that will not offend anyone. I will really enjoy layering this. Molecule 01 + Iris by Escentric Molecules: soft earthy powder and musk, 4/5 🐇🪵 Notes: buttery, starchy orris, unscented powder, and a squeeze of lemon at the very top. pu'er tea and tissue paper. Performance: 2/3 lasts forever but the scent is very subtle Thoughts: This is more orris than true powder, but there is no touch of floral. I feel like a sexy chinchilla in a high-end dust bath. Weird, modern, unisex, and I love it. I wish it was stronger so I could just be blasted with it all day. Sweet Leaf by Room 1015: NOT cannabis, but wonderful anyway, 5/5 🍃🌿 Notes: EUCALYPTUS and then citrus, pine, patchouli Performance: 2/3 good Thoughts: To me, this does not smell at all like cannabis but it is herbal, medicinal, refreshing, and grounding all at the same time. It has the ~vibes~ of cannabis but no one will think you smell like it, which is perfect for me! It has a burst of herbal mintyness at the top, not in a toothpaste way but in a eucalyptus essential oil way. Not a "dirty hippy" perfume like I imagined, but modern and "clean" despite the patchouli note. This is the perfect Sunday scent and I may have to get a full bottle of this. Steamed Rainbow by D.S. & Durga: a magnolia blossom fallen in the dewy grass, 2/5 🌧🌈 Notes: lemon, honeysuckle, water, humidity, grass, green tea Performance: 1/3 not worth wearing Thoughts: Beautiful photorealistic water smell chased by soft magnolia and citrus. I can barely smell it an hour after applying and the water accord faded on me within 10 minutes. It is a gorgeous scent during application. Heartbreaking. This is a fancier, watered-down version of BBW's Tropidelic. I would suggest that over Steamed Rainbow. Pistachio by D.S. & Durga: ren faire perfume booth but make it elegant, 3/5 🍯🍂 Notes: licorice at the start, something animalic and incensey, brown sugar, vanilla creme, leather Performance: 2/3 good Thoughts: It has something funky in it other than the patchouli, and it really caught me off guard but I like it. This one was sent as an extra from the store I ordered the samples from, and it isn't something I would have picked for myself, but I was pleasantly surprised. I was expecting something much more edible and instead it is just a nice, spicy amber. It is much better on my skin than in the bottle, which mostly smells like anise to me. Nice but not unique. submitted by /u/realcoolkatz to r/Perfumes [link] [comments]
