Wanted to test a Tesla Supercharger before heading out to our cabin, and it was also my first time using the official VW adapter. No issues at all. Plugged in, it just worked. Since the only fast charger near the cabin right now is a Supercharger until I get one installed up there, this was a big confidence boost. Long story, I will try to make this as short as possible but I’m sure I’ll leave out some details. I just purchased a new 2025 Model 3 Highland, and installed this level 1 charger on the ceiling (only outlet I have in the shared garage). I live in a condo on the top floor, and have a neighbor that lives below me. My garage parking spot is directly underneath where her bedroom is. I’ve been receiving constant complaints from her ever since I bought the car/put the charger in, that the charger makes loud humming and vibrating noises that keep her from sleeping. I plug it in every night, but on an average might it only charges about 6% to max out at 80%. So it’s only charging from 10PM-2AM on the lowest amperage. I’ve gone down to listen for the noise she’s hearing but have not been able to hear it. I’ve asked her to send me a video of it on her phone and she doesn’t know how. She harassed the HOA enough to the point the hired an electrician to come out and put a piece of plywood and rubber behind the charger to eliminate the noise, which apparently has not helped. Does anyone have any tips or advice to help fix this situation? She is blowing up my phone every day saying she can’t sleep and saying I installed the charger wrong. Edit: C’mon people, read past the title before rushing to downvote because “tEsLA bAd, wHy yoU usE?!!” . The short cable thing (when they opened up the charging network and absolutely positively knew this was going to be a problem) is just such a ridiculous fail on behalf of Tesla. I am currently in a fairly rural area with limited fast chargers, the only hundred kilowatt option being occupied by a Silverado EV that advised he was going to be there for several hours, so off to the local Tesla supercharger location I went out of desperation basically..as it’s certainly not a network I would normally use. Long story short, due to the cable length issue there was not a single stall that would actually work. Had to sit and wait close to half an hour before I could finally get in to a charger that worked. Hey r/TeslaModelY, Long-time lurker here, first time posting. Just a quick PSA for other owners - this happened a few days ago in Woodbridge, VA (Rippon Landing area). On Thursday, August 28 around 11:45 AM, a guy pulled up in a dark gray RAM 1500 crew cab, got out with a sawzall, and cut straight through my Tesla charging setup. He walked off with the cast iron stand, the black cover, and the wall mount. He actually tossed the plug back on the ground after cutting it. I just ordered my first Tesla and I'm debating between the mobile charger and the level 2 wall charger. I'm going to gave to pay an electrician to get something installed into our car port. Our neighborhood is pretty decent, but if I just got the mobile charger, I'm thinking I'd have to unplug it and replug it a couple of times a week to charge my car so no one can just steal it off the wall. This isnt the end of the world, but it would be easier for the wall mount to just be permanently there. Any other factors I should weigh? I know the wall charger unit and installation would be more expensive. The charging speed shouldn't be an issue. On Monday my 2026 Y will come home. Never owned an electric vehicle. I solicited 4 quotes for a home charger install. The first quote was $3500. The second one $4800. The third $8700. The fourth guy never showed up once he knew I had other quotes. All were from the Tesla certified list. A few things to note: My house is a corner house with a detached garage and driveway behind our back yard off the side street the makes up the corner lot. The electric panel is at front of the house. A trench must be dug from the front of the house to the garage about 75 feet away. So at least half of the cost is probably subcontracting a trenching landscaping company. PSEG in NJ is currently offering $1500 credit for a home charger install so the prices may be artificially inflated. I am not a daily driver and only use the car a couple times a week so initially I will be getting by with the mobile charger plugging into a normal household outlet in the garage. There is an unused 240v outlet in my basement. I am thinking about drilling a hole in the wall and running an extension cord but that won't make it to the driveway. Has anyone else had a large trenching install in a high labor cost area like the suburbs of NYC and how much did it cost? So I live in a wonderful mixed use building, and it’s been great. Lovely amenities and decent tenants and even free electric car charging! This was simple and easy for the last two years and out of nowhere more and more Tesla people moved in, bringing their swasticars with them. And it’s like oh okay, it’s like 20 EV’s sharing four chargers, no biggie, cuz most tenants respect the building’s 4-hour limit rule, which should bother no rational person that understands not everything is about them. However Tesla drivers are a different breed, and a few of them think that those rules don’t apply to them, whether it’s because they have a bigger car or they have kids or whatever excuse they have for hogging the chargers day and night whenever they can. Yeah yeah they have bigger batteries and need longer charging…but 4hr limit is 4hr limit. It wouldn’t be fair if someone in an on-site laundromat hogged all the washers and dryers all day long, would it? Who gives a shit their reasons for hogging the chargers. But wait this gets interesting. So recently the guest level parking charger stopped working. Something wrong nobody can get it to work. Now we’re down to the one downstairs and that’s it. Remember each charger has two points so it’s now two charging cables for over 20 EV’s, and some malicious Tesla drivers among them. I decide to leave a note one night on the charger itself because of said malicious Tesla driver decided to charge both their cars the entire afternoon into the evening taking up all the chargers, which others of need to use to get to our jobs and whatnot. It simply said the 4 hour limit applies to everyone. However the next morning I went to charge and found the note ripped up with a portion left with a reply written: “SAY IT TO MY FACE”. And since then it’s just been a race to the chargers before 4pm to avoid the greedy Teslas who come and take them the whole afternoon and night. Sometimes they win, sometimes the rest of us do. More recently someone else left a note as well addressing their behavior saying “please consider other drivers need to use these too” and the reply left on it was “I saw you on my cameras lmao I won’t consider shit!” So I took this up to the top. I took that note, and the photos of my ripped up note, and sent them not only to the property manager, but to the regional manager for the property management company itself, who have many more buildings throughout the country. They got back to me and I informed them that not only was this charger not working and this hogging was happening, which was of mild concern, but then I decided to use my nuclear option and told them that their EV chargers hadn’t been charging anyone any money. This really got their attention and I find out that they are about to replace these chargers entirely with new updated ChargePoint Chargers that will start charging tenants money after four hours. Even it’s the customary $3-4 per hour, this will add up for the teslas hogging the chargers all day and overnight. Now you might be thinking this will affect me too, but my partner and I are DINKs first of all, but also, my EV doesn’t take long, it’s tiny. I only need at most like 3.5 hours to charge to full usually. Basically unless I’m an inconsiderate asshole, I won’t get charged ever. Hi Orlando - just got a new Tesla and need an electrician to install a Tesla charger in my garage. Should be a simple installation, looking to hardwire it pretty close to my subpanel which is in the garage. Should be about a 4-5 ft run, I have plenty of space for the new breaker in my electrical panel. Can anybody recommend an electrician or experienced handyman that has experience with installing EV chargers? If you could please include their contact info or company.
