For many years I was in charge of the time and attendance system, and other IT systems, in my workplace of 1500 employees. ​ I developed a small intranet app to make it easy for everyone to see who was clocked in, out, out on business, vacation, etc. That info was available in the main system but it was a pain to access from there, so everyone relied on my system instead. ​ What they didn't know is that I placed some code in the system, to always show me clocked out after 4pm. I'd go home at 4 every day, complete a 60 minute commute, then actually clock out from there. This gave me 5 extra hours each week. ​ If someone had checked I'd have been fired, but I figured people are lazy and tend to trust what they see on screens like that. ​ I ran that scam for about 8 years. i’ve been told i should post this here because it’s quite a rare story! this is mittens. we got her when i was about 10 years old (i’m now 23), she was my best friend. we had to give her away about 8 years ago and it was absolutely heartbreaking, i didnt get a choice, my mum didn’t want to give her away either but she was blinded in a toxic relationship, he didn’t want her. i never thought id see her again. then a few weeks ago, a day before my mums birthday, my mum got a call from the vets. a couple had brought her in because they were worried for her, they had been feeding her for at least 3 months. she was a stray, and still had my mums details on her microchip. we don’t know how long she was a stray. my mum called me instantly, and brought her to her home. thank god i was already coming to visit for her birthday. i decided as soon as i heard she was back that she was coming home with me (i live a 6 hour drive from my mum) it wasn’t even a question. my partner, a cat lover, was fully on board. already contacted the vet to get consent from the people who found her to get their contact info (to get more information, and send them a huge gift of course!) we’ve found out she’s 14 years old, what a survivor. underweight, dental infection, covered in flea dust and dirt, lump on her left side, she’s been through a lot. people were calling her ‘bella,’ as soon as my mum called her mittens she responded and recognised us both instantly. i focused on getting her healthier for her journey home, she handled the 3 hour train and 3 hour car ride like a champ, and she’s settled in amazingly. we blend her food to help with her dental pain, we help her clean herself as she struggles to with her mouth. she refuses to hurt me, even when she’s uncomfortable (she’d take swipes at my partner and mum, but would meow and run away/turn her head so she doesn’t hurt me), it absolutely melts my heart. she’s craving love so desperately after not having it for so long. she’s had her blood taken and she’s a true fighter, no issues with her organs. she has a hernia that we will be monitoring closely, and she has a dental appointment next week. she’s not expressing too much pain, but i want to do everything to make her feel more comfortable. even if we don’t have much time with her, we’re not giving up, and we’re going to spoil her rotten. she’s such a fighter, my best friend, and i still can’t believe i got her back. 8 years later and she’s fighting through. there’s been many tears, there’ll be many more, but i’m so happy to have her home again. first 3 pics are from when i was reunited with her, next 5 are from when we brought her home, last 2 are from when i had her as a child :’) UPDATE: i am overwhelmed and blessed with how much love we have received! im so glad to have made people happy in sharing my story, i never predicted it to reach so wide! i’m also so glad ive given some people hope to find their lost kitties, it still feels surreal to me and i can’t believe i got this lucky. update post of mittens coming shortly. thank you guys for making me smile and happy cry, i have given mittens many pets and treats on behalf of you all submitted by

im 20, from the US, we have been to the Emergency vets twice in the last 72 hours already. im starting to lose my funds for the vet bills at this point. around Sunday night (6 days ago) my 8 month old female kitten (spayed) started yowling and wandering around the AirBnB and became more affectionate, and didnt want to play. i chalked this up to stress as shes done it before. the next day she was acting the same, but she peed on a friend, which is completely unusual for her - shes met many of my friends recently and shes very good at using her litterbox. on Tuesday (4 days ago) we were getting ready to check out of the BnB and she peed on the floor again, i tapped her butt to get her to quit and she FREAKED out at me, ran to the bathroom and started lashing around on the floor when i came up to her. she scratched the hell out of my hands and i eventually had to throw towels on her to contain her. she was still yowling at this point and moving around just fine when we got to the new BnB Wednesday, she starts limping and walking a lot slower, slowly eating, not jumping up anywhere, i made a vet appointment that day for the next day, but ultimately ended up bringing her into the ER around 11pm-12 when she peed on the couch because it seemed like she couldnt/didnt want to get up. after 1k bill they chalked it up to “her hind quarters just seem to be in pain” cause her bloodwork and xrays were “fine” meanwhile they ignored her full bladder and the fact she had delayed reaction. they prescribed her 50mg of Gabapentin and Onsior for the “pain” Thursday we try to thug it out, maybe its just pains, i try to trust the vet. so she was drugged up all thursday and didnt really do anything at all . Friday, we went on a walk , she was laying in her backpack and i felt her squirming so i stopped to check on her and saw she threw up ! but she threw up a piece churu wrapper that i completely forgot about so never mentioned to vets. she immediately perked up, walked around and even had some water! thinking this was the start of her feeling better. we got to current bnb, and she just completely stopped moving, didnt want to eat or drink, just seems paralyzed. so i brought her into the ER again which was a long 2 hour drive , just for another 1k bill and a referral to another vet. they think shes neurological and needs an MRI. she ended up pooping after we got back from the ER, and i noticed more possible wrapper in her that didnt make it out. her new xrays also showed a shiny piece of something in her . but did the churu wrapper make her neurological as well ? i really dont want to lose her or have to give her up because i cant afford her. ive applied for care credit and pet insurance now. shes my bestfriend and we have been on a roadtrip since early march, we still have 2000+ miles until we reach “home”. im losing my sanity. I’m 20 years old and have been working for this janitorial company since July of last year. The pay is $14/hr for 3 hour shifts, 15 hrs/week. I’m a full time student so this worked perfect with my schedule. About 4 months ago, I transferred to a new location. Right away, I’m the one cleaning two OR’s and then cleaning the sterile processing and decon rooms. This is twice the work of my other coworker. We get two more coworkers as time goes on, and once again, i’m doing twice the work (and still having 30 mins of free time). I come in early and wait until everyone is finished so we all leave together. I have a condition called R-CPD, where I will get chest tightness and pain if I go too long without laying down or sitting forwards. So, after I finish each OR, I would either sit in the storage room or nurses lounge for a few minutes to prevent pain before going back to work. Keep in mind, I finish an entire hour ahead of my coworkers, and my breaks are minimal. Here’s where the trouble starts: My supervisor came up to me and said my coworker stated I would ‘disappear’ during my shift. I explained my situation to her and she seemed to understand. My coworkers spend the first 30 minutes of every shift talking and on their phones while I begin work, so surely my minute breaks while i’m already ahead of them won’t matter. The person who trained me also said I should feel free to take breaks in between each room. I’d already had previous trouble with my supervisor after asking for vacation time off in March. She said no because my coworker would be gone the same time. I told her it was a non-refundable trip, and she got one of our drifters to come in. Yesterday, I asked for time off (8 work days, 10 days total) to go to Italy with my family. She again said no, this was too much time off, and I explained that I would be losing hundreds of dollars cancelling this trip. These are my only two trips this year, totaling 15 vacation days for the entire year. She then brought up the fact that i’m ‘unreliable’ for taking breaks, and my coworkers have seen me on my phone in the OR. She also states that my ‘new condition’ made me not a right fit for this location. I explained that my condition did not impact my work, and taking short breaks was normal. Another huge detail is the fact that my coworkers are CONSTANTLY on their phones, every time I see them. I don’t understand why one went to my supervisor to state I disappear or sit on my phone, because they are far worse about this issue. I do twice the work for the same pay, and my supervisor somehow sees me as unreliable. I’ve never taken a sick day, come in late, or been uncooperative, which all three of my coworkers have multiple times. I’m posting on a throwaway as my wife is a frequent Reddit user and commonly surfs this sub. I know this title alone might raise some red flags, after all you’re not supposed to comment on a woman’s eating habits at all apparently. But I’m starting to become genuinely concerned my wife has parasites. Why you may ask? She eats like a wolf and doesn’t gain weight. She also complains about being in ACTUAL pain from being hungry. But the main point of this story was a comment I made about how it’s “Not natural how much she eats without gaining weight anywhere”. Which apparently came off as the most offensive thing ever said. I’m seriously not trying to call her out or exaggerate her eating habits. This is everything she ate just today for example: 3 eggs, 12-20 mini hashbrowns, juice AND a smoothie, 4 sausages, a miniature steak (roughly the size of half your palm) for breakfast (but partially spaced out over about an hour) half a poutine, 3 cake pops, another juice box, 6 chicken strips for lunch, snacks were half a platter of shrimp, 8(?) snow crab legs with garlic butter, 2 bowls of Mr. Noodles, 2 small pieces of cheesecake, a cup of hot cocoa, a salad with chicken, 3 bowls of carrots and broccoli, then for dinner she had 10 chicken nuggets, a mcchicken, another bowl of ramen, a chocolate bar and a soda. Now I’m seriously not trying to judge and say shes eating to much in a negative way but she often says when she’s hungry her stomach hurts more then just a little hunger pain. The problem is, when I brought up the health concerns I said “Nobody can eat THAT much and not gain weight clearly it’s something wrong” and she took that as “Wow you eat way to much food fatty” or something??? But I don’t feel like I’m wrong. In all the time I’ve been with her she’s gained 25 pounds TOPS, most of which she gained when she started a medication years prior. She’s 140 pounds, that’s not fat. I don’t understand how she took it as me calling her fat in a bad way. I truly genuinely believe it’s not humanly possible to eat that much without gaining weight, I didn’t mean it in a mean way at all I just truly think somethings eating whatever enters her stomach or SOMETHING. So that being said am I truly the asshole? I’ve apoligized if she took it the wrong way but I said I’m not sorry for being concerned and brining up valid points. Am I the asshole? 97 year old man, wife died 3 months ago, and had a fall while walking his dog. Hip is broken. Family requested him on ibuprofen only because "addiction runs in the family" (HE has never been addicted and is, again, 97). Doctor complied. He was on gabapentin and Tegretol. Doctor took him off the tegretol and put him on Keppra. Gabapentin was increased for nerve pain, but then dropped from 800 mg 3x daily to 600 3x daily. Family said it made him too sleepy so they lowered it to 300 mg 3 times a day. He couldn't sleep at night with 6 mg of melatonin so they gave him 15 mg of Remeron RIGHT off the bat. Had another fall in the hospital, knee is shattered now. His daughter lowered all the bed side rails and turned off his bed alarm because she was scared of him moving too much and it going off and scaring her. Still on ibuprofen and also tylenol. Multiple CT scans with contrast. Two surgeries now. Multiple rectal laxatives because of constipation. Rectal Tylenol for some reason??? Foley + no brief policy hospital. Patient reports he wished he died because he hates life. Now on Lexapro with a sitter. All personal belongings removed from room, constantly watched by a 19 year old CNA, and cannot have visitors now because of hospital policy. TV in room is broken. Family can't find glasses so wearing a pair from Walmart. No physical aggression, just cursing at and refusing care. Staff reports he goes from fine to snapping at sitter, crying, and bouts of silliness. Last night me and my roommate left the bar around 1:30 AM and decided to see who could walk the furthest without giving up. After about 10 miles we realized we were way too far from home and no one was awake to drive us back so we just went for a full marathon. We got back around 10:20 AM after walking for 8 hours and 23 minutes straight. We’re both college students and only really run 2 to 3 miles a week so we were not prepared for this at all. We were wearing jeans and sweatshirts with Converse and New Balances which made it miserable once it started raining. It poured for about three hours starting around 4 AM and it was around 45 degrees out. Our shoes were killing our feet and our soaked jeans and sweatshirts made every step harder. Somehow we didn’t need a single sip of water the entire time which still makes no sense to me. Once we sobered up it was just straight pain and trying to prove we could finish. We thought it would be easy at first but it humbled us quick. The last few miles were brutal. Our legs hips and the bottoms of our feet were aching so bad we almost couldn’t finish. It honestly might be the hardest mental thing I’ve ever done. Me and my roommate don’t regret it but we’ll never do something like that again. Now both of us can barely walk and I’m not sure if I can even make it to class tomorrow. I'm a 29 year old female who started experiencing wrist pain early September along with a reoccurrence of sciatica so I made an appointment with my PCP. A couple days before my appointment with my PCP, I got full body aches. Everything hurt from my shoulders to my feet. It literally felt as though I had the flu without being sick. I went to PCP and he ordered blood work. He did a full physical exam and referred me to rheumatology for arthritis symptoms. Here's where the trouble began: I received a Methylprednisolone shot for my sciatica. PCP said my blood work showed minor inflammation, but a negative RF test and prescribed me Sulindac. I'm currently enrolled in a HMO Marketplace insurance plan that only 3 rhuematologist within an hour drive accept. Needless to say, I've had difficulty getting an appointment so I'm switching to a PPO plan; however, that coverage won't begin until January. Since September, I've had an increase in symptoms. I experience joint stiffness in the morning and usually takes me an hour after my Sulindac dose (highest I can take, 2x a day) to feel any relief. My wrists, ankles and knees ache. I wear a brace on my right ankle and right wrist throughout the day. My hands are always swollen but recently I've developed a burning sensation in my trigger finger. Also, I have a sharp, thumbtack-like pain in my wrists and ankles at the end of the day. I've started to develop fatigue as well. Feeling sleepy and absent minded a lot at work. I currently take Sulindac twice a day, 650 mg of Tylenol joint and arthritis 8 hour (twice a day), ice packs, braces and wraps throughout the day and night as needed. I'm worried about disease progression before I can get into a rheumatologist for an official diagnosis. Any other tips on what to do in the meantime or anyone experience disease progression while waiting on rhuematologist? Thanks in advance. I know that I only need to take what I’m going to need for my stay (7 days) and looked through the sites about prohibited medicines in Japan. I wasn’t able to find an actual list of what medicine is prohibited, only substances. So I was wondering if any of you could tell me if any of the following medication is prohibited? As described above, I'm amazed at how great the NHS is, particularly in the middle of a global pandemic. Everyone was super nice and helpful. The Doctor at the local hospital was great with my son and we didn't have to pay for the prescription as he is under 18. Amazing. Yesterday after some contemplation and a failed IUD attempt, my doctor placed my Mirena! I am 15 weeks postpartum, delivered a C-Section baby with complications & knew I didn’t want to try again anytime soon. I had an appointment last month for Mirena insertion. My doctor informed me that because I had a c-section, and the placement of my uterus, it may be a difficult insertion. I was pretty worked up, and he offered for me to come back a few weeks later. He prescribed a pill called “Cytotec” which thins and softens your cervix for easier insertion. (if you have never been pregnant or are a c-section mom, ask about this! You take it the night before and morning of placement.) The night before: I took my cytotec as prescribed. The morning of: I took my cytotec again, along with 650 mg Tylenol Arthritis. 30 minutes before: I took 250mg more of Tylenol. The process: It was fairly simple. My OBGYN inserted a speculum (instrument used during Pap-smears to see your cervix/vaginal canal/uterus.) he then used a solution to clean and prep my cervix. Getting to your cervix seems to be the hardest/most uncomfortable part. It’s just a lot of tugging and stretching, but to me, no actual pain! After cervical prep, he inserted the Mirena which felt like a light period cramp, not painful at all. I was done! All over! Aftermath: So far, I have had no pain and no spotting. I will update if that changes. I felt some minor discomfort for maybe 6-8 hours post-insertion but no pain. Mostly just felt like very mild cramps. In summary: so far so good.
