The jury returned the verdict for Chikei Rick Chow. Chow, 61, who is Asian, shot Cyrus Carmack-Belton in the back after chasing him from his convenience store in Columbia, but maintained he acted to defend his son. The killing sent waves of anguish and grief through the African American community in Richland County, where nearly half the population is Black. After the verdict was read, sobs and cries of distress could be heard coming from Carmack-Belton’s family seated in the gallery. Chow sat silently frozen before slowly bowing his head onto his interlocked hands. Prosecutors and a defense lawyer in closing arguments painted different pictures of the 2023 shooting. Prosecutors said Chow acted in anger because he wrongly thought the teen had stolen four bottles of water from the store. My son brought this to me after he strained it and said it was at the bottom of his water bottle. It looks like a gel cap and when I squeezed it, liquid came out. It looks like it was sliced open. Update: I found the markings on the bottle that everyone was asking about. After calling the number, I found out they’re closed this weekend but I’ll call first thing Monday morning. Update 2: I finally called. They sent me an email to send them pictures, took down my info of where I purchased it, markings on the bottle and when it was purchased. They gave me a case number as reference and I’m awaiting a contact from a “consumer specialist”. Hellooo!! I need to find a new water bottle as mine is getting quite old. I’ve always had trouble with drinking enough water cuz i just forget about i so i thought changing my bottle was a good start. The old one was a metallic water bottle with a way too big opening, it was really uncomfortable to drink with. Hi! I’ve used so many different water bottles over the years but I always seem to gravitate to another one after a while for one reason or another. Currently I really love a few different ones but would love some recommendations and suggestions based on your experiences. Owala FreeSip Stanley Tumbler Nalgene Widemouth HydroFlask I’d love to find a reasonably sized bottle. I’ve found that 40oz is a bit too heavy to take on the go like on a walk, but anything smaller than 24oz is just too small. Ideally the bottle would be able to fit into standard cup holders and be insulated. I would also love to find one without a billion pieces to clean. I find that my Stanley is a bit of work to clean since there’s so many little gaskets (I have two leak resistant gaskets on the lid). I love straws but it isn’t a dealbreaker per se. Hopefully that’s not an unreasonable list. I know it might not be possible to find one that fits all of the criteria, which is fine. Ordered this Yeti around the holidays and it never showed up, which seemed weird. I forgot about it for a while until the snow finally melted, and sure enough there it was, tossed into a flower garden 20+ feet from any door. Should be an advertisement for Yeti. I’ve been looking into getting a better water bottle lately and, honestly, the more I look, the more overwhelmed I get. There are so many options out there, and everyone seems to have a different favorite. What I’m looking for is something durable, leak-proof, and easy to clean. Ideally, it should keep drinks cold or hot, fit in a cup holder or backpack, and not have that weird plastic taste. I’m open to stainless steel, glass, or BPA-free plastic whatever actually works best for daily use. For context, I’ve tried a few cheap ones from big box stores, but they either leaked, cracked, or just didn’t hold up well over time. So I'm wanting to purchase a new water bottle. I always would buy cheap ones say like Hydrapeak ones from like TJ Maxx or Ross. However I'm needing a very good water bottle that will keep water cold (40oz or higher) and that it won't have these little plastic thingies that most water bottles have on the inside. The reason being it's so annoying to clean/hand wash them and they mold at times (though I do my best to wash my bottle everyday). But the other issue is I just struggle to remove the plastic/silicone and then put it back on. My other thing is I hate straws. So a Stanley is an absolute no. (Also not a fan of the handle).
