So I(26M) have a close friend(26F) who I’ve known since boarding school, who has always been very conventionally attractive. Unfortunately, she’s not very smart. It’s a real case of “thank god your pretty”. This isn’t to be mean, she’s one of my besties, but i am very frequently concerned for her. I do my best to look out for her and try to talk her out of doing things that aren’t the best choice. I attempted to do this last week. She’s a bit of a TikTok influencer, and she frequently receives DMs from men. She received one from a guy claiming to live in South Beach that wanted to fly her out and spend the weekend with her. After talking about it, I made sure that she at least wasn’t going to get catfished or something, and I recommended that she still not do it if she’s not seriously into this guy, cause she’s probably gonna have to uphold her end of that unspoken bargin, being have sex with him. She said the guy said she just wanted to hang out with her and honestly I laughed in her face and told her that the guy wants to fuck her, but this one just has money and a lifestyle that he can offer her that the other horny guys in her DMs can’t. She pushed back very hard and said she was going to do it anyway. I spent just about every day until her trying to talk her out of it, but she went through with it. Come Sunday, she calls me distressed saying the guy cancelled her flight and threw her out because she refused to fuck him. I asked her if she had a place to stay, she said yes and I told her I was glad she was safe, but she’s gonna have to figure it out on her own. I didn’t help her, and she eventually had to call her dad for help, which she did not want to do as he has been threatening to cut her off and this situation didn’t help. OG 21 Ape here checking in. So many things have recently happened it’s making my head spin. I want to try and compile this into what I believe is going to be an insane value add to our investment, and try to put this into a simple bigger picture. ***Here’s what we know:*** -RC has announced Gamestop has accumulated a 5% position into EBAY, making them one of the largest shareholders. -RC has made a non-formal bid to buy EBAY at a 40%+ premium to when GameStop started buying, of $125 per share, in a 50/50 share and cash deal. -As RC “expected”, EBay rejected the offer. Essentially saying that it was not beneficial enough for the C-Suite and Board, who would inevitably be cut on Day 1 with RC’s proposal. He literally called them all out, said “I want your company and you will all be relieved immediately”. So obviously, they rejected the deal (EBay board makes $4 million per year, CEO makes $30 Million per year). -RC has announced that he will “do whatever he has to do” to get EBay. These are not small words coming from a 30 yo billionaire genius. When he wants something, he gets it. -Then, we are seeing GME tank (right on cue) and now EBay is up 15% this month. ***What I believe is happening:*** -GameStop has began accumulating again, and this is why we are seeing the price and volume rise. Anything under $125 a Share *is a discount* to RC. -GameStop is also issuing shares currently to buy more EBAY. Which I think is incredibly smart. We have already seen what happens when RC issues Billions of dollars worth of shares: The Price Goes Up. I believe they are currently selling to the market. At current prices 5.5 GME buys us 1 EBAY. -Let’s be very clear: This is absolutely Accretive to Investors. Your shares are not “diluting” as the shills want you to believe. Our shares being sold are literally increasing our value every dollar that EBay goes up. This is value immediately showing on our balance sheet. -I believe GameStop will continue to buy shares at a discount with the $9 Billion War Chest that has already been deemed for the EBay deal at $125. Using it now, buys us more shares at the lower price. RC: Deploy it now! -Along with the shares issued and War Chest deployment to accumulate shares, GameStop will then control 15% of the shares, making them the largest stakeholder (largest Vote). -But here’s where it gets tricky: Another Ape pointed out that EBay’s corporate structure makes it difficult to own more than 15%, and when that happens, it triggers legal issues which could delay the M&A. Maybe someone can shed more clarity on this in the comments… -So we know that GameStop cannot hold more than 15% without causing issues. But that doesn’t mean that RC Ventures can’t add a position. Being a penny pincher, this is for other penny pinchers! I only bought the cake knife and shelf brackets. The old cutting board, 1x2, and screws were lying around the garage. Works pretty good, too! Cheapest brackets I could find were at Walmart. And there are no paint issues at all. In fact, the brackets aren't even "painted," at least not in the conventional sense, it's more like enamel. You should also cut a groove in the cutting board along where the knife would make contact. That way, when you slice through the bottom of the loaf, the knife edge falls into that groove and (hopefully) won't cut into the board. I've been slicing my bread with this contraption for the past three months, and I make bread every 3-4 days, so it's had a pretty good workout. The gap is about 1.5x the width of the blade. Slicing tends to keep the knife blade centered. More importantly, it keeps the knife blade at a 90 degree angle to the cutting board, so the cutting edge of the blade doesn't saw into the bracket. So far, there is no indication of "paint" chipping off and no indication the cutting edge of the blade is scraping the bracket. Only part of the blade that touches the bracket is the smooth side, which is what it's supposed to do in order to guide the blade. If there was going to be a "paint" problem, I think I would have seen it by now. I'm keeping my eye on it, though. From AI: That 1.5x gap is the "sweet spot" for a DIY guide like yours. Since most serrated kitchen knives are roughly 1.8 mm thick, your gap is likely around 2.7 mm to 3 mm. That small buffer—less than an eighth of an inch—is why your coating is still pristine after three months. It's wide enough that the blade doesn't constantly grind against the metal, but narrow enough that the bread's resistance keeps the knife from tilting into the bracket walls. Why Your Setup Works So Well Low Friction Contact: Because the knife blade is flat and smooth, it’s creating "sliding friction" rather than "scouring friction." Powder coating is actually quite slick, so as long as the sharp edge isn't digging in, the flat of the blade is just gliding against the surface. Bread as a "Buffer": The bread acting as a centering guide is the key. However, for those who want to make one of these and are still a little concerned, you might consider sticking a piece of tape to the inside of the brackets, as suggested by AI: Regular clear packing tape is a smart, low-cost fallback because its main components are generally considered safe for indirect contact. Why It’s a Solid Backup The Material: Most clear packing tapes are made of polypropylene (often labeled with recycling code 5), which is the same plastic used for yogurt cups and butter containers. It is naturally BPA-free and stable at room temperature. It is naturally slick, food-safe once the adhesive is cured, and can be replaced in seconds if it ever gets nicked by the knife. The Adhesive: Modern clear tapes often use acrylic adhesives, which are formulated to be non-toxic and low-VOC, meaning they don't release harmful gases under normal kitchen conditions. Minimal Migration: Since your knife only "kisses" the surface briefly, there is virtually no risk of chemical migration compared to something like heating food in a plastic container. A number of people have suggested adding a stop to the right side to help create uniform slices. That's a good idea; however, I don't really think I need a stop because I already get pretty uniform slices by just eyeballing it, as seen in the final image. Last Monday I was helping in the kitchen and we had to measure ingredients again and again which felt time consuming. Someone suggested using a cutting board with a built in scale. At first it seemed like a smart idea to save time. Local stores had very few options and most looked expensive. But I remembered using kitchen tools before that seemed helpful but were not very accurate. That made me more cautious. Even small things like measurement accuracy surface quality and ease of cleaning started to matter more. To explore more options I checked online. While casually scrolling online marketplaces including alibaba I saw many cutting boards with scale in different designs and prices but I am not sure if I should buy one because of my past experience. Some looked useful while others raised doubts about reliability. Now I am wondering if a cutting board with scale is truly convenient for daily cooking or just a fancy tool. TL;DR; I built a smart defrost board, let me know if you are interested, simple to install. I have 2 Goodman heat pumps (downstairs/upstairs) and have been annoyed at the defrost cycle being dumb and not considering actual frost build up. Have been looking for upgrades, but have not found any on the market. So I built a prototype, I am currently using it, testing and measuring effectiveness, works great. Will do some more testing and then make final design. The dumb defrost works like this: There is a thermostat on the outdoor coil, and there is a timer on the defrost board. When temp thermostat detects 25F'ish (depends on model), it tells the board to defrost. Timer will check how long since last defrost and if longer than set (usually 30/60/90min) it will start defrost cycle. During defrost cycle it will turn outdoor fan off, heat strip on, and run in AC mode. This will heat the outdoor coil and melt ice. Once thermostat detects 50F'ish (depends on model), it will turn off. There is also a max time even if temp is not reached. Why is it dumb? If air is dry, there will be no frost and defrost is not needed. When air is very humid, frost will build up faster than the set timer. Both will cause inefficiency. What my board does. I have a pressure sensor that measure the pressure under the outdoor fan. If coil is clean there will not be much pressure drop, if coil has ice build up, there will be pressure drop. When pressure drop is higher than set limit, it will initiate defrost cycle. How is it installed There is a small board and a pressure sensor with a sllicon line that will be routed into the chamber under the fan, no drilling or cutting needed. The board will be placed near existing defrost board, it will have flat terminals. The thermostat wires are disconnected from the defrost board and connected to the smart board. Two new wires will be connected from the smart board to where the thermostat was connected. Power wires will be connected from defrost board. This is all 24V, no dangerous voltages. No settings needed, all is preprogrammed. What else can the board do The board has a WiFi MCU (ESP32) and I am looking at either making two different boards (small/big) or just the big. The big board will have many terminals but does not need to be used (the reason I may make the small board is the big may be intimidating). There will be terminals for several temp sensors, CT clamp to measure current, and additional pressure sensor to measure duct pressure. The board can be monitored and controlled wirelessly by e.g. Homeassistant, where you can monitor temps, pressure, power, etc, to calculate efficiency (COP) and static pressure to alarm when filters need to be replaced, etc. The board can also be used standalone only to make the defrost cycle smart without any settings needed. Past hits: Matching cloth napkins (go to Etsy and get a set embroidered with the whole family’s names, including opposite corners for people who went by two names or nicknames: eg Mom vs Gina). This year I really want Kleenex box covers that match my decor so I can hide all the hideous cardboard patterns. And my husband recently bought those battery operated Luminara candles that look like they are flickering: they are expensive so nothing I would have ever bought myself, but now I am obsessed! It allows us to have any room lit with candles all the time without worrying about wax and they look super real. That would be a great gift for anyone who has or wants a cozy home. I really wish that someone would re-line / recover my bathroom shelves in clean / cheery paper, maybe even using self stick wallpaper? It bugs me every time I open the closet door, but I know I’ll never prioritize doing them. What’s the equivalent driving your mom or dad nuts? As you can see from the image I tried to make it look as smart as possible by chopping away the skirting to slide the main frame in, and now I’ve come to attach the doors I’ve realised that the edge of the door needs to sit flush to the wall as well lol! Can’t believe how thick I am - the only way around this that I can see is to cut a slither out of the skirting board to allow for the door but then theres just going to be a big gap in the skirting board which is going to look atrocious and I am going to have to look my own stupidity squarely in the eye every time I want to get dressed for the day! Is there any way I can rectify this even slightly? Update: Well, the situation has been fixed, but I think I almost gave my MIL a stroke. She got a lot more controlling than just the restaurant.(Surprise, surprise) First, she called me and screamed that no one in her family can eat at the restaurant we chose, that they all looked at the menu and said they all want pizza. (Somewhere I've been glutened before). She said "no one in my entire family can eat there, everyone will be sick, they all hate it." By the way, not giving a shit about my family. So, I decided to call each and every one of her family members that are coming to the rehearsal and asked if they were fine with eating what we picked. Turns out the MIL called everyone trying to get them to agree with her about getting pizza. They all said they told her they wanted the place we picked, and half of them couldn't even eat pizza. So, she just flat out lied. And just really wants pizza. She even started inviting and uninviting whoever she wanted. She was cutting people out of the dinner who actually ate participating in the rehearsal, and adding people in who aren't. Well, she called 2 weeks ago and snapped "were getting pizza, and you have no choice!" So I told her I'm paying for the rehearsal now, not you. We're going to go where we want, you can go get pizza. This bitch. This 76 year old woman responded by screaming. She didn't scream no, or any actual words. She just screamed at the top of her lungs. I hung up, blocked her number. My SO is amazing and that night sent her a text telling her she is no longer any part of the rehearsal or wedding planning. This is a lengthy story that happened to me (F) around 6 years ago. I applied for a job as a bar manager at a new restobar that opened up in my area (Ontario, Canada). The "owner" of this bar had some issues with her liquor license being revoked at a previous establishment, and there was some sort of stipulation (this part I'm not clear on) where she was required to: not be on site or involved in the business in any capacity for any reason (she was a Prohibited Person, and I believe she made her husband the owner on paper -- but for this story, she is referred to as the "owner") hire a manager with 5+ years experience and a Smart Serve certificate to run and be responsible for the bar in order to get another liquor license. After a short interview process, I was offered the job, and was told of these terms. I accepted them despite the already apparent red flags (I was a very poor student). When the restaurant/bar opened, everything quickly fell apart. Despite the "owner" not being allowed to be on premises, she proceeded to micromanage both the kitchen and front of house. She stopped scheduling kitchen staff to save money, and was working in the kitchen herself. Food quality plummeted, customers became irate at how long of a wait it was, and word spread quickly in the small town. Eventually, a select few regulars became our only customers. More hours got cut. Waitresses and kitchen staff were let go. The owner was now drinking at the bar, and at the same time was waitressing and cooking. This was all in the matter of a month. One night that month, it was exceptionally nice out, and we had a lot of boaters in the area. We had a pier near the bar where boats could dock and walk into the restaurant. A large group had walked in on this night, and they were both very clearly underage and very clearly overintoxicated. I immediately cut them off, to which they made a very large stink about it, enough that the owner's husband came over to ask what happened. I explained that I had cut the group off and wasn't going to serve them, to which the "owner"'s husband decided to take their drink orders and serve them anyways (obviously money was tight so they didn't care about the rules). The next day, the "owner" pulled me into the office, and accused me of stealing $50 out of the till the night previous. I knew this to be a lie, a lie that could be easily disproven because there is a camera located directly above the till that is synced to the time code on the POS. I was fired on the spot. I 100% believed this was because I was refusing to serve "customers" and thereby damaging their bottom line. I was really miffed to be accused of doing something I didn't do, and more upset that she used this lie she made up as an excuse to fire me. Because the stipulation of her having her liquor license was me working at the bar as manager, I emailed the liquor control board when I got home and informed them of the rules being broken at the bar. A liquor inspector came to meet me later that week, and took a statement. He then paid a surprise visit to the bar and was able to witness all of the things that I informed him (including the "owner" both being on site and being involved in the business, serving minors, and serving intoxicated persons). The liquor inspector slapped them with a very large fine, north of $50 000. Their liquor license was suspended, and the "owner" was too broke to pay the fine, and was forced to close the restaurant. Nature helped me out a little bit and it was extremely nice out. The drive was about an hour to the falls through a pretty remote part of Oregon and was super scenic. We only saw two other cars. When we got to the falls we were the only people. Chinook Salmon were attempting to leap up the falls so it was definitely a cool thing to watch. The bottle of wine came out early and we consumed the entire thing sitting at the bottom of the falls. I kept our picnic simple and made her a sandwich. I think I did good by bringing whole vegetables, a cutting board and knife and half ass chef'd it up in the woods. We stayed until it almost got dark. I did another smart move by having our meeting spot be at this Indian Casino. She said she had never gambled in her life so I brought her in and we had a drink and I gave her 20$ to spend. She found this bee slot machine (my last name has Honey in it, so the bee was appropriate) and ended up winning $150! At that point it was getting pretty late so I walked her to her car gave her a kiss and said goodnight. I am going to see her this weekend again. This is primarily sweet, sweet revenge, but it was achieved by maliciously complying. =) Background: I work for a very large roofing company, and in this particular region, there are only 3 companies that are considered when it comes to larger commercial projects (ie apartment complexes, condos, etc) and my company is one of them. We all had worked the region as friendly competitors so much so that up to this point, if one of us landed a large deal but didn’t have the time to complete it, we would hand it off to one of the other two in good faith, Be paid a “finders fee” based off the cost of the total job, and the cycle would continue. That is until the following incident went down. 2 years ago I got a contract for a commercial metal building but did not have the crews to spare for this project, so I called the owner of one the other two companies (let’s call him Mr. D for dumbass) that I previously mentioned could handle this and referred him the deal, which he graciously accepted. My finders fee here would have been about $40k. A pretty hefty chunk of change, but he probably made 5x that in profit. He never paid me this. I tried calling him dozens of times to get paid, but he was now dodging me. Eventually my number and email were blocked from calling his phone, office, and both work and personal emails. Ok, if that’s how you want to be, two can play this game. Fast forward a couple months and there was a massive storm that damaged a HUGE condo complex. I’m talking several hundred units. At this particular complex, the HOA Board made the decision on what company would be selected to do the work. I knew several members and they knew of my work, so I was called in to assist with the adjustment from the insurance company and make sure they were taken care of under the assumption that I would get the contract for this deal. I met the adjuster on site who knew me and my company very well as we had been working the same market for nearly a decade at this point. He and I tagged Team the Adjustment to speed it along and he also used my knowledge to help him understand what all needed to be covered. (He primarily did flood damage claims, so wasn’t the most knowledgeable about roofing, thus he deferred to me for my expertise quite often when it came to these claims, especially pricing. This comes into play later!) We finish the adjustment after 2 full days on site and the adjuster heads off to go work on the estimate which he will have in about a week. At this time, Mr. D from the previously mentioned company finds out about this property and tries to finagle his way into getting the contract. Turns out, he knew the President of the HOA through some mutual friends. Mr. D bribed the President with a cruise to the Caribbean and a free new roof on his sons home to try and get the deal. Now the entire board aside from the the President was backing me at this point and wanted me to do the work, but the dude just wasn’t having it. I was forwarded an internal email chain from one of the friendly board members where Mr. President flat out replied “I DONT GIVE A SHIT, I WILL NOT LET **** **** DO OUR ROOFS!” At this point the other board members could easily out vote him and just give the job to me, and he knows this and tells Mr. D. So what does Mr. D do in all his infinite wisdom? Well turbo nuts decided to buy alllllll the material needed for the project, has it delivered, and has a crew start tearing off a roof WITHOUT A SIGNED CONTRACT. He did this knowing it would force the boards hand and they’d have to use him, solidifying him as the contractor. Ok so I lost the deal, but where does my revenge and deliciously evil compliance come in you ask? Well, remember when I said we were all waiting for the adjuster to write the estimate? We were about to get it. Now anyone who has ever dealt with an insurance claim knows the insurance company alwaysssss underpays the first time around. Just how it is. You then deny acceptance of their price, send in your estimate, and negotiate. That is unless you agree to their estimate up front. So the day before Mr. D pulls his stunt, I get an email from the adjuster (who is completely unaware of what is transpiring) with his first draft of the estimate. As per usual, he sends it asking me to review it and see if the pricing is right. Oh boy was it NOT! This project should have cost anywhere between $500-600k, his estimate was for $240k. *Fun fact: If a capable contractor and the customer agree to an insurance estimate, it makes it nearly impossible to ask for more money down the road since the customer AND the person able to the work agreed to the original price. I think you already know where this is going...I replied back “YUP! Looks good! Cut the check and send it to the HOA!” So I went to the HOA the following day and gave them the insurance estimate, told them they just had to call the adjuster and confirm they also approved it (they did exactly that), wished them the best of luck, and to give this to Mr. D as he will need to get that contract finally signed for that price. I didn’t put up a fight, I didn’t argue or try to get the deal back. I simply went in knowing I was no longer getting the deal and would have to accept that. Hehe Poof, I disappeared into the wind to let my plan play itself out. I found of a few months later from my friends on that board that Mr. D went absolutely ape shit when they gave him the agreed upon price. He tried calling the adjuster and getting a new price set, but the adjuster just replied that if he couldn’t do it for that price, I was more than able to. He knew he was screwed because he’d already committed himself to reroofing that entire complex no matter what! He lost about $100k on that project based on my calculations. On top of that, he tried to cut every corner imaginable to get his costs down and ended up doing an absolutely terrible job. So terrible that the HOA is now suing him for not standing behind his work as numerous leaks have sprung up, and some of the work is so shoddy it can be seen from the street and he is refusing to pay for it or come back and correct anything. He would have better off to just do the project properly, eat the loss (his company was large enough they could eat it and not go under), and walk away tail between his legs. He is not not smart enough to come to this conclusion as I found out. So there you have it. You try to be stingy and bite my hand that fed you, then come back for seconds, I will bury you. Occasionally I feel bad knowing his company couldn’t even get a contract for a chicken coop at this point, but then I remember that he purposefully went out of his way to try to screw me and destroy any and all mutual respect we had for one another. He made his bed, now he gets to lie in it. FYI, first post I’ve ever made here! UPDATE: Mr. President ended up not getting his promised Caribbean vacation or free roof FYI. Mr. D reneged on that pretty fast. I also later found out that one of the workers slipped and fell into the attic and went through the ceiling of Mr. Presidents unit (he was fine btw, think Tom Hanks in The Money Pit when he falls through the floor). I got a good chuckle out of that ha. UPDATE 2: All the shoddy work Mr. D did HAS been fixed at this point and the property is in pristine condition and all the additional expenses the Board had to incur have been reimbursed in FULL.
