My coolest find of all time, lack of space in the car couldn’t stop me.
Went to goodwill to help my buddy look for a bedside table and went to the checkout immediately after finding this. In my excitement I mis-measured, and it didn’t fit in the outback. So, I rug-tied it to the roof and drove home slowly, holding it through the open sunroof. I painstakingly vacuumed it after I got home because it made my allergies go crazy, but I’ve finally gotten it set up in my room. $34.99 well spent. I’ve done my best to look for info online about the piece, but to no avail. No information on the back either. Regardless of where it’s from, I adore it. Bonus, I got the lamp + media console + child with injured foot thing the same day, those were all 50% off red tags. And cinderblocks are only $1.78 at Home Depot. Audiotechnica LP120 on the way (from marketplace), don’t worry. submitted by /u/Henrique_Lucas to r/ThriftStoreHauls [link] [comments]

AITA for installing a camera in my room to see if my mom is lying to me?
I (19M) and my mom (49F) have had numerous fights the past few weeks. Most of which are on the same topic. That being her going into my room and looking around without me knowing. Basically, every time I would leave the house for work or anything else, I would always leave my door fully closed, but would come back to it open. Also, I would be incredibly positive that certain things had been moved around or straight up gone. So naturally, I’d ask my mom if she had gone into my room. She would always say no. Now, maybe the first couple times I could play it off and me forgetting to close my bedroom door. But once it stated happening multiple times a week, I knew that wasn’t the case. So, yesterday I went out and bought one of those Bluetooth surveillance cameras. At this point, I was positive she was going in my room behind my back and then lying about it. I just say wanted proof, because I knew this would just continue happening otherwise. This morning, before I left for work, I made sure the camera was working, closed my bedroom door completely, then headed out. At around midday, I got a notification on my phone that the camera had detected some motion. So I pulled it up to view the recording. Wouldn’t you know it, there was my mom going threw my drawers, closet, and desk. She was even grabbing certain things and tossing them out into the hallway. I closed the video feed seething, making sure I saved it first, and planned to confront her first thing when I was done my shift. When I got home, I immediately asked her if she had gone into my room. She said no. I responded by pulling up the video and holding my phone in front of me so she could see it. Instead of apologizing, she exploded. She screamed at me for installing a camera in her house without her permission. I responded by demanding an explanation for her going in my room. She insisted that she had a right to as my mother. She began questioning certain things in my room, to which I said it’s none of her business. At this point I was done. I stormed off and went to my room. Within the hour, my phone started blowing up with messages from family, all siding with my mom, telling me I’m insane for putting up a camera. I kid you not, the entire family is on my moms side, except my dad. Unfortunately my dad can’t stop this himself, as my parents split up a yeas ago and he isn’t allowed in my moms house. I swear I’m doing nothing wrong here. Like, it’s my only space in the house where I keep my things, relax, and do my own stuff. Or am I just completely out of my mind? AITA? Extra Information: I have never stolen anything. Not from stores or other family members. I have never had a history of drugs or smoking/vaping. The things I saw from the video of her taking from my room have been these: A notebook, a pair of sneakers from my collection, a few pairs of my paints, some plastic cloths hangers, my second bedside lamp, and old pay-checks from my work. I also don’t pay rent. Update: Over the course of the week, I’m going to start moving things to my dads place. I’m also not telling my mom about it until everything is gone. I appreciate you all making me realize my mom was overstepping a lot. Update 2: I did what many of you suggested and checked my credit to make sure no money went magically disappearing. I’m pleased to see that nothing was gone, but that still didn’t stop me from locking it. As for as I know she doesn’t have any information on it, as the paystubs don’t actually have my card number or any information for my account, just the money I was payed over a certain period. Again, thanks to all of you who replied! I greatly appreciate all of you! Update 3: Moved my first couple things over to my dads. Lucky my mom wasn’t home when I did that, so it was really easy. I will continue to do this throughout the week. Update 4: I can no longer view the video feed from the camera. I just get a “unable to connect” pop-up. I don’t think I need to be Sherlock Holmes to figure this out, although I won’t know for sure until I go back tomorrow to grab more stuff. It was still in its normal spot earlier today when I went to grab stuff. Update 5: Sorry for the long wait on the next update. I wanted to stay away from the post for a bit just to clear my head. I have moved over a lot more things to my dads. Also, I have decided that I’m not going to move everything. Some things just aren’t worth moving. My dad said he’d help me buy some of the things I won’t move over. Oh yeah, and the camera is gone. Not in the trash, like straight up disappeared. I’ll just let y’all thoughts run wild on that. I’ll only update one last time, which is when I’m officially at my dads. Again, I greatly appreciate every single one of your support. submitted by /u/King_Jake200 to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

My (38M) girlfriend (33F) is angry that she's set herself up to fail and I am entirely unsympathetic
I (38M) am a self-employed building surveyor. A week before Christmas, a client got in touch and asked if I could facilitate an urgent job between Christmas and New Year. Having no kids and very little else to do in that period, and with the money being offered being substantial for the rush job, I agreed to 2 days work, today and tomorrow (29th/30th December). The client is great, the money is great, and I had no other plans. The work is in London, I live in the north of England, so it's hotel stays for me as is the norm for my business, staying Sunday night til Tuesday night and travelling back on Wednesday (New Years Eve) to enjoy the festivities. I told my girlfriend (33F) about this work I'd taken on and she immediately wanted to come with me. I asked why and she said we could have a nice break in the capital and spend some time together. I told her that this isn't a holiday, it's work, and that she's welcome to join me if she can entertain herself but I'm working so she better not moan about me getting up at 6am. She said this was fine, she could see some friends and go to the markets, the shops, tourist stuff etc so I added her name to the hotel room and booked her a train ticket (central London, I'm not paying a fortune to park 45 mins away from site). We travelled yesterday afternoon and got to the hotel, where the first issue arose. It's a budget hotel, part of a large chain that I regularly use, with very basic facilities. She didn't think it was nice enough for a "romantic break". I reminded her this is NOT a romantic break and I'm not spending business income on anything I don't need, like a swanky hotel room, and the room was booked before she asked to join. She pulled her face a bit but didn't say anything else about it. I got to my usual work routine, unpacking clothing, putting tools on to charge, then went to scout the property and nearby amenities. I told her I was off to do this, checked if she needed anything from the shops and headed out, with her just getting into the shower as I left. I returned about an hour later with my usual haul of bottled water, protein bars and bananas which sees me through the working day 'til I find usually a kebab house or similar for a hot evening meal. I'm not poor by any means, but whatever is spent when away still comes out of my profits so I try to stay reasonably cheap. When I returned, around 6pm by this time, she was dressed up in a nice outfit and part way through putting her makeup on. I assumed she'd made plans with a friend so asked her where she was going. She got quite angry at this and snapped at me to put my "nice clothes" on so we could go out. I pointed out that I had not brought any nice clothes, and that I wasn't going out as I had work the next morning. This went down like a lead balloon. She immediately started crying and saying I'd ruined her plans for a nice meal at some restaurant she'd apparently made a reservation for. I again reminded her that I'm not on holiday, I'm up at 6am and I was doing nothing more than eating, sleeping and playing on my Switch 2, which aggravated her more; cue more tears and another complaint about the hotel not being nice enough. I told her she's upset entirely due to her own actions and refusal to listen to me and that I was not sympathetic to her tears when she unilaterally decided my work trip was our romantic getaway. She locked herself in the bathroom so I went out and got us some food. By the time I returned, she seemed to have reflected upon everything and apologised to me. She'd gotten changed into her comfies. We ate, chilled out for a bit doomscrolling then watched a film before bed. I set my alarm for the morning and reminded her I was up at 6, then got in bed whilst she was finishing up in the bathroom. As she comes out of the bathroom, she makes a big thing about looking at her. As I had literally just got my head on the pillow I told her whatever it was could wait to tomorrow and to get in bed. She shouted at me "I've put in all this effort and you're not even going to look?!" so I reluctantly roll over, grab my glasses, flick the bedside lamp on and look over to see her in a very sexy maid's outfit with all the trimmings. She climbed onto the bed and immediately started trying to initiate sex, but I stopped her, told her yes she looked amazing but it's nearly midnight, I'm up in a few hours and need to get some rest. She shouted "well fuck you" and locked herself in the bathroom again. I took my glasses off, flicked the light off and rolled back over to sleep. I'm not sure exactly how long afterwards (I was in a semi-sleep state) she got into bed, gave me a hug and said she's sorry for shouting. I get up the next morning, got showered and dressed quietly then gave her a quick kiss on the forehead, said I love her, was off to work and left. It was a pretty normal working day, nothing of note, and I left around 6pm getting back to the hotel just before half past. She was in the room when I got back and asked if she'd had a good day, she said she'd been shopping as was evidenced by the various bags scattered around the place. I go get in the shower and when I come out she tells me she's laid clothes out for me. I look on the bed to find a whole brand new outfit, shirt, trousers and shoes. I told her thanks but I was getting onto my comfy gear since I'd been in work gear all day and she snapped "you're not going out in your scruffs!" which caught me off guard, so I asked "why not?" which led to her informing me we were going for food and drinks with a friend of hers and the friends husband. I lost my shit at this point. This was the 3rd time in about 24 hours I'd reminded her I'm here for work, not whatever stupid ideas she had in her head. She got upset at me calling her ideas stupid, but I countered with the fact that unilaterally planning romantic ideas on a "working fucking trip" was "incredibly fucking stupid", which caused her to start crying. I told her I'm not interested in her crocodile tears, she's a full grown woman who has elected to ignore everything she's been told, make plans for others they've no interest nor capability in undertaking, and she's now upset because she isn't getting what she wanted. She said I didn't care about her which I flipped right back, pointing out she'd literally decided to ignore everything I'd told her repeatedly, and so she could sulk from now until 2036 if she wants but she's entirely at fault for this and I'm taking no responsibility for her being upset as it's wholly self-inflicted. She was bawling her eyes out at this point so I got dressed and went out to get food, texting her to let me know if she wanted anything. She immediately replied saying she's going home (open return train ticket thankfully). I got back to the hotel about 30 minutes ago and she has indeed packed up her stuff and left. I'm now sat alone in my hotel room, picking at the food I got for her, struggling with one simple question: how could I have made it any clearer that my work trip is not our romantic getaway? submitted by /u/NewKingMorons to r/relationship_advice [link] [comments]

AITA for refusing to let my girlfriend bring her dead dog’s ashes on vacation?
For those of you that had asked, this is the urn. Update below On mobile. Sorry if there are formatting errors. My girlfriend (29F) and I (28M) have been together for four months. She had a dog that died a few months before we met. I have only ever spent the night at her place (I live with my sister and her two kids, so it’s a little chaotic at my place). Gf has a small (2-3 inches tall) urn on her bedside table with the dog’s ashes. Before she turns off her lamp to go to sleep, she always gives it a little tap on the top and says “Goodnight”, as though she is talking to the dog. I think it’s weird, but I have never said anything. We were supposed to go away for the weekend. On Friday, I was watching her pack, and noticed she took the urn and put it in the top pocket of her backpack. I asked what she was doing. She said she didn’t want to “leave the dog behind”. I told her she was not allowed to bring the urn as it made me very uncomfortable. I didn’t want to see it anytime we returned to our hotel room. I didn’t want her talking to her dead dog after we’ve had sex (ie: before we go to sleep). It’s weird, and frankly, she’s been mourning this dog for too long. She didn’t argue. She simply started to unpack her bag. She told me to have fun on the weekend getaway, as she would not be coming. I asked if she was seriously choosing a dog’s ashes over me. She said she was choosing herself over me, as I could have spoken to her with kindness and empathy, but didn’t. She also said that I didn’t get to dictate how long she’s allowed to grieve. Then she asked me to leave. She hasn’t replied to my texts. I think she’s overreacting. My sister said she can see both of our sides. Am I an asshole for thinking my gf is weird for being so attached to her dead dog’s ashes? Edit 1: the hotel was non-refundable and only a three hour drive, so I went on the trip without her. Edit 2: she started seeing a psychologist around the same time we started dating; she hasn’t told me any specifics, but she said the trauma of suddenly losing her dog brought to the surface other trauma in her past. This is why I think she has been mourning for too long. She is still attached to the dog, even after seeing a professional on a regular basis for several months. Update (and I’m sure this will make a lot of you happy): I get it. I’m an asshole. I texted my gf to say I’m sorry for how I spoke to her and for dismissing her feelings. It was wrong. I also said I would like to apologize in person, and offered to bring over her favorite take out. She said “all good. dont worry about an in-person apology. i gathered the things you’ve left at my house. let me know when you would like to come pick them up”. I’m hoping she will still hear me out when I go to her place. Edit 3: To those of you dm’ing me who think I’m NTA, but won’t post a public comment due to the risk of being downvoted, please stop. That is cowardly. To those saying my girlfriend is a lunatic, a sociopath, unhinged, a trauma dumper, has endless emotional baggage, in need of a mental institution, etc, please stop that, too. While myself and others may not understand what she is going through, that doesn’t automatically make her mentally unstable. She has a good heart and a good head on her shoulders. Name calling is unnecessary and borderline crueler than I was. Final update: I shared this post with her, thinking it might help her see that I was wrong and am owning it, and maybe it would open the door to a discussion. That blew up in my face. I probably should have deleted some of the questionable comments i made in this thread. She texted to say: “your things are now in a garbage bag on the porch. pick them up sooner than later so they aren’t stolen. goodbye [my name]. please respect my wishes and don’t text me anymore.” submitted by /u/Overall_Tomato_6664 to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

AITAH for refusing to wake my girlfriend up for work, which led to her getting fired?
I [26m] have been in a relationship with my girlfriend, Jess [28f] for three years. Jess and I live together. Jess is not a morning person. This is primarily due to the fact that she’s up until 2 or 3am every day on her phone despite having to wake up at 8am. I’ve tried to get her to start going to bed earlier so she could wake up on time, but she says that would leave her no time to do her own things. Seeing as she only works until 4pm, this is patently false, but I decided not to press the issue. Generally, I have to wake Jess up. I wake up at 5:00, run for an hour, get home at 6:00, shower, eat breakfast, and use my computer a bit. I’ll start waking Jess up at around 7:30. I fully understand it’s ridiculous to have to wake a 28-year-old woman up, but I honestly don’t mind, or at least I wouldn’t mind if it weren’t for the fact that waking Jess up is a nightmare. I start by gradually turning on the lights at around 7:30, starting with the bedside lamp. Then I begin gently trying to wake her up. If she gets up around this time, she’ll go to the bathroom, and then I’ll go back to the room to find her asleep again. The worst part about waking her up is she’s so ornery in the morning. She’ll use expletives directed at me, insult me, and then later when I bring up her words, she’ll just say “I was sleepy and out of it. What do you want me to do?” Well, last Friday she pushed things a bit too far. I was waking Jess up as usual, and when she walked past me to go to the bathroom, she made this exaggerated dry-heaving sound at me. Then she said, “You fucking smell. Take a shower.” I had already taken a shower and always keep good hygiene. That evening I told her that our deal with me waking her up every day was done. I was done with her tantrums, done with her insults, and done with her frankly stupid facial expressions with how out of it she was. I told her that I’m not moving a finger to make sure she gets up for work on time. She was naturally upset about this, but I said she could wake herself up. Today was Monday, and lo and behold, she overslept and was over an hour late. Since she had already been written up twice during her probationary period for her job, this was an automatic firing. Around noon she called me incoherently yelling about how I got her fired. I had to hang up on her to get back to work. When I got home, she immediately started shrieking at me more, and then demanded half my salary until she found a better job. I feel like making her go cold turkey on waking up might have been too sudden, and apparently she really liked the job she had. Should I have at least tried to wake her up? submitted by /u/ForsakenFigure6334 to r/AITAH [link] [comments]

Literally in tears from exhaustion. Cat will not let us sleep. Please help. Serious replies, I’m begging.
I’m at my wits end. I don’t know what else to do. This is Jack, he’s a bit over a year old, and he will not let us sleep. He’s not looking for attention because once one of us gets up, he just fucks off to do whatever and reappears the second we try and fall asleep on the couch or go back to bed. We have an automatic feeder that goes off twice overnight. He has two sisters and countless toys to play with. We’ve tried keeping him up during the day, doesn’t work. Tried tiring him out before bed. Doesn’t work. Been to the vet (as recently as three weeks ago), no issues. Ignoring him doesn’t work. He just yells and yells, then starts doing things we can’t ignore like knocking over bedside lamps, messing with the expensive shades (came with the house, we aren’t masochists) and jumping on top of the mounted TV. Squirt bottle chases him away but he comes right back. Locking him out of the bedroom results in him howling and scratching at the door all night. Literally. He doesn’t give up after any length of time, we’ve tried waiting him out. I don’t know what else to do. It’s severely affecting my quality of life, I need sleep. Sometimes it’s not until 4:30 but lately it’s been nearly all night after 2am. Hence me posting this at 3:30am. There has to be something else we can do. Please for the love of god let there be something. I am so tired. submitted by /u/romanticheart to r/cats [link] [comments]
