The best thing about bringing waterproofs and boots is that if they stay in your suitcase, you've been lucky enough to have great weather. As they say in Scotland, there's no such thing as bad weather, just having the wrong clothes. If I was tight on luggage space I would happily wear boots and a rainproof jacket on a flight.

This is why I have a couple of eating shirts that are only worn when I eat. They have a ton of stains but I don't care since they're my eating shirts. When I'm out at a restaurant, I change into my eating shirt and jeans in the restroom, and when I'm done eating I put my suit/nice clothes back on.
