Caffeine alters the human brain’s electrical braking system: Consuming an amount of caffeine equivalent to two cups of coffee enhances the brain’s ability to temporarily quiet its own motor signals in response to sensory input.

Caffeine appears to do the opposite of what you might think when it comes to the heart. Scientists have found that a cup of coffee a day actually protects the heart from atrial fibrillation – a condition that can lead to stroke and heart failure.

TIL In 2006, Midas ran an "America's Longest Commute" award, won by electrical engineer Dave Givens. His commute was 186 miles each way, and he'd drink 30 cups of coffee per day. He was willing to make this long commute so that he could live in a scenic horse ranch.

we need to normalize bringing reusable cups to coffee/boba shops
Saw this trash can at my local outlet mall :-( I don't think there's anything wrong with getting coffee/boba/fun drinks out. I personally find it very fun and a rewarding little treat for myself. However I find the use of disposable plastic cups to be so incredibly wasteful. Let's please normalize asking baristas if they can make our drinks in a metal coffee thermos we bring from home! I know due to company policies not every coffee place will allow customers to do this but I think there is no harm in asking. Plastic cups are seriously so wasteful, accumulate easily and end up in the streets/sewers. submitted by /u/trap_queen_aya13 to r/Anticonsumption [link] [comments]

Mother insists on using a new cup everytime she wants a cup of coffee. She refuses to reuse a cup and also doesn't do the dishes. I did the dishes 6 days ago and it's already like this.
I've offered to buy her a designated coffee cup or 3 because the dishes are 90% her cups. She doesn't even rinse out the cups so after awhile the coffe starts to mold and smell. submitted by /u/Wentleworth to r/mildlyinfuriating [link] [comments]

buying disposable plastic cups for coffee made at home…
people are buying disposable plastic cups for their coffee THAT THEY MADE AT HOME to look like they bought coffee and because “coffee tastes better in a plastic cup”. i don’t get it, just use a reusable coffee tumbler? they make clear plastic ones if you like that aesthetic. submitted by /u/excitingaffair39 to r/Anticonsumption [link] [comments]

Which coffee mugs/cups do you use and recommend?
I am following the discussions here in /Coffee for a while now. In general it is really interesting to read about coffee and experiences of the people here. But at the end of the day here and in other forums it almost always comes down to the grinder you are using. Assume the following: you have a good grinder, using your French Press and Aero Press for years. You have good beans and find the taste of the coffee you enjoy pretty damn good and you are drinking the coffee black without milk and sugar. I have a theory for years know: that depending on the coffee cup/mug you are using your tasting experience is different. I have done some reading and I found four (relevant) sources which kind of confirms my subjective tasting experience. But they are referring especially to coffee and milk drinks. There are so many different types of coffee cups/mugs out there and I am really interested in your coffee cups. Which one do you prefer and maybe even why? I am looking for new coffee mugs I can try with black coffee from the French Press oder so V60. I think that could be relevant to a lot of people because I assume you can get an even better experience m/taste without investing to much money. The four sources I mentioned in the text above: 1. https://cognitiontoday.com/2017/09/food-psychology-coffee-does-taste-different-from-different-cups/ https://ora.ox.ac.uk/objects/uuid:49d474d4-19c9-49c9-9429-570c026816cf/download_file?safe_filename=Does%2Bthe%2Bshape%2Bof%2Ba%2Bcup%2Binfluence%2Bcoffee%2Btaste%2Bexpectations%253B%2BA%2Bcross-cultural%252C%2Bonline%2Bstudy.pdf&file_format=application%2Fpdf&type_of_work=Journal+article https://flavourjournal.biomedcentral.com/track/pdf/10.1186/2044-7248-3-10 https://www.wakacoffee.com/blogs/coffeelifeblog/what-mug-to-drink-with-what-coffee-types submitted by /u/default-player01 to r/Coffee [link] [comments]

So, just how much coffee (per day) is "too much"?
I drink, on average 3-4 cups a day, maybe 5 on the weekends. My (now ex) gf always asserted this was "too much" coffee, and that I should drink less. Now, contrast this to when I was in the Navy, and I was drinking probably 8-9 cups a day or more when at sea. So, I realize you guys may be a bit biased, but I'm asking anyway: How much, is too much? submitted by /u/HardwareLust to r/Coffee [link] [comments]
