I made a $500 MCG purchase with $7.95 fee on Tuesday. The 2.5% for CVS just posted overnight. $12.70 The math works out to $29.83 net (5.97%). 5% on $500 = $25 1% on $7.95 = $0.0795 2.5% on $507.95 = $12.70 - $7.95 activation fee CVS has a overreach practice of scanning back of DL for gift card purchases of amounts like this.

RE:Rewarding Moments: Small Redemptions, Big Joy!
I was in line to check out at CVS and the lady that was in front of me was short $3.27 on her purchase and was upset. The clerk was obviously agitated over the situation so I just stepped up and handed her my $5.00 AARP rewards gift card to complete her purchase. The little value of that gift card resulted in a very enormous thank you.

Gift card fraud?
I need outside opinions because this situation feels really strange to me. About a month ago, I bought a Visa gift card at CVS for my daughter’s birthday. My mom was with me when I purchased it, and the package was sealed and activated at the register. I mailed it inside a birthday card. My daughter is currently in foster care, so the foster mother received/opened the mail with her. Yesterday, the foster mother told me that when she opened the sealed gift card package, the actual card inside was supposedly “cut in half,” missing the swipe strip, and only half the card was there. She says the birthday card envelope itself was also still sealed when it arrived. She keeps insisting it was some kind of “malfunction with the card itself,” not tampering. But I’ve honestly never heard of a Visa gift card physically arriving as half a card inside sealed packaging. What’s throwing me off: - The card was supposedly sealed when opened - The envelope was supposedly sealed too - She says only half the card existed - She also said “you can’t even activate it because the strip part is missing,” but I’m pretty sure those cards are activated at checkout when purchased I still have the purchase receipt, and she says she still has the damaged packaging/card pieces. Has anyone ever seen anything like this happen legitimately? Could this actually happen from manufacturing/shipping, or does this sound more like tampering/scamming? I’m trying to stay calm and factual because my daughter is involved, but my gut says something isn’t right. submitted by /u/Some_Piano_8295 to r/CVS [link] [comments]

Stop buying Gift Cards here!
Stop buying gift cards at CVS. They are actively being tampered with and CVS has no accountability about getting you your money back. Staff cannot tell from the front which ones are tampered cause they are getting good at fixing them and they have to be on the sales floor per corporate. Just send money or an email gift card. submitted by /u/notesofadyinggirl to r/CVS [link] [comments]

The gift cards are extremely useful. I had $60 in my piggy bank and got six $10 CVS gift cards. The gift cards arrived in my email in less than one minute.
I went to my local CVS and bought six little pieces of candy that costs 0.39 cents each. My grand total was $57.66. Basically, I simply paid $2.34 to receive that $57.66. I’m no longer irritated or upset about the PayPal issue. Cashing out $10 gift cards at CVS works perfectly for me…it’s no problem for me whatsoever submitted by /u/MrTruth45 to r/QMEE [link] [comments]

Another gift card scam post
I’m visiting the US to visit family and my MIL VERY generously purchased a $50 Sephora gift card from CVS on 23 December for me for Christmas. On Monday night, I had my cart ready to go and - sure enough - after scratching off the strip on the back, I learned that the balance was $0. I called Sephora Gift Card Services this morning and it turns out that the card had been used twice, first for $30 then for $20. Having previously worked in customer service roles, I have a lot of empathy for people working on the front lines of speaking to the general public, but I was genuinely taken aback by the total apathy of the person on the other end of the phone. I had to press her for more information and she reluctantly told me that the card was used in Florida - when I told her I’m in Pennsylvania, there was just total silence. A familiar story for many, I’m sure, but the only advice they could give was for my MIL to contact her bank and dispute the charge. Unfortunately, the representative told me that “Sephora’s systems won’t allow” for any kind of written communication, so my MIL can’t go to her bank with any kind of proof that this conversation took place. Which, of course, isn’t going to fly with a bank. It just feels so… wrong, and unfair. $50 is nothing to this company but my in-laws work hard and it’s a significant chunk of change to them. I feel gross and upset on their behalf, and also surprised at the total lack of care on the part of Sephora. Coming from Australia where our choices for beauty are limited (the Mecca/Sephora duopoly is shameful), I’m a little starry-eyed at the choices here. By that, I mean that every experience I’ve had at Ulta has been nothing short of delightful and every brand I love is available there, or available at home. So, unfortunately Sephora, I think we might be breaking up. Lesson learned on gift cards, I suppose. Thanks for letting me rant. 🩷 submitted by /u/purpleowls89 to r/Sephora [link] [comments]

[US] How do gift card scammers steal the scratch off code from physical gift cards?
I got a dillards gift card from my dad that he purchased at cvs. When i went to dillards to use it i took the card out of the cardboard sleeve and scratched off the card to reveal the code which was a combination of 16 numbers and letters. Then once the dillards associate tried using it, their system said it had a zero balance and they were able to see it had been used on an online purchase in a whole different state just two days after it was purchased. I’m just so confused how the scammers can figure out all of the numbers and characters needed to use the card. Are they hacking cvs systems or dillards? submitted by /u/MediocreTomatillo8 to r/Scams [link] [comments]

Where are we getting our greeting cards? I’ve tried CVS, Target, multiple bookstores, museum gift shops, and cannot find a decent selection. I’m on the UES.
Hey BWT - I’ve googled to no avail, it just suggests everywhere I’ve been on the UES. I’m looking for Papryus level quality, and although they say they have them at Target, it’s only a few. Places I’ve been: - Guggenheim gift store - The MET gift store - CVS - Target - EAT Gifts - The Little Book Shop - Paper Source - Barnes and Noble They all seem to stock the exact same basics; cheap or New York Times or too much specificity like for dad, or it’s all writing. Would love some solid recommendations of amazing card shops, and at this rate, I’m willing to travel downtown if necessary. Thanks! EDIT UPDATE: wow thanks everyone!! I should have asked before the weekend ended cause now I have so many amazing spots to hit up! Thank you! submitted by /u/CostanzaBlonde to r/NYCbitcheswithtaste [link] [comments]

How to stop gift card scammers?
So my blood is boiling. A colleague got scammed via an electric company scenario. She was solicited to change her electric service when she decided to cancel she got sucked into believing that she had to pay a penalty. They eventually freaked her out to the point where she purchased $900 in gift cards and gave them the codes, etc. she purchased these in our local CVS having to stay on the phone the entire time. I happened to call her for a business related matter, and she told me the story, saying that she did speak with national grid who was her original electric company and they were going to reimburse her. I told her it was all a scam, no business would take payment via gift card to not take their calls anymore and to block their numbers. The next morning, I thought to myself “I wonder if she really spoke with national grid or did the scammers pretend connect her in some way?” so I called her again, and of course she was not the one who called national grid, they had called them allegedly. At that point, she tells me that they called her back and told her they were going to turn off her electric service, had her again so freaked out that she went to a Target in our neighboring community and purchased another $2000 in gift cards and did the whole fiasco over again They had spoofed the number for national grid. So I’ve been ruminating about this, I called a local police officer who is a good friend of mine to discuss what steps can be taken to prevent (at least try to) this type of scam going forward. What pressure can be put on CVS Walgreens, grocery stores, Target and other businesses who make money by selling these gift cards? Should the gift cards be locked up? Should only a manager be able to access them? if somebody is on a phone call and looks distressed when trying to purchase gift cards, can they be refused? Should there be a dollar limit on the number of gift cards that can be purchased at one time? So, thoughts? EDIT LOOKS LIKE I’M NOT ALONE submitted by /u/camlaw63 to r/Scams [link] [comments]

Generous stranger gives my wife a 100 dollar gift card after defending her from CVS Karen
My wife works for Walgreens in an affluent part of St. Louis and it has been rough lately due to understaffing and just awful, entitled assholes blaming workers for the dumbest shit. Laat night she and the pharmacist were the only people in the whole store from 3-11 so they were really busy and a woman came in and was just being unpleasant and had been from the get go. She's making a big show of having to wait in an (admittedly) long line. She makes it up to my wife's counter and she's just fucking awful- sniping at my wife and the pharmacist when she would try to help, resolve the situation, accusing them of ringing up things at inflated prices, telling then they're lying when she has to pay 9 bucks for Virginia Slims. Like a nightmare. My wife moves her to the side and rings up the guy behind her who apologies for Karen, tells K that they don't make enough to be treated the way they she was treating them, etc. She starts to yell and the guy just rolls his eyes and gets checked out. He looks over at Karen and throws 2 gift cards to my wife and the pharmacist, 50 bucks a pop. Just gave them to them and told them to consider it hazard pay/ asshole tax. Sometimes people suck but the really nice ones almost make up for the shitty people. submitted by /u/witkneec to r/FuckYouKaren [link] [comments]

The Avalanche of Gift Cards Incident
So this didn't happen much at a hotel, but a restaurant I used to work at inside an amusement park back in Florida. One day like normal, this nice elderly lady came to the register and asked me if she's allowed to pay for her food with a gift card. I told her yes, she can purchase the food with it, and if there's any left on the card I can tell you if, also the remaining balance can be paid with either cash or credit. So she proceeded to order about $100 worth of food (she was with the family). Now... after what happens next I should have said no in the first place... why? She then proceeded to open up her purse and took out a HUGE stack of gift cards, like for some reason she had around 100 gifts cards of this company in her purse. She told me that she buys the cards for her grandkids, and when the kids think they are done with it, they return the card to her. And she didn't know if the cards had money in them, so before she was going to discard them she wanted me to process it to see if there's something in the cards, so it can be used to pay the order. So me since I told her yes, she started to give me the cards, one by one. Some hard just a few cents, some had a few dollars, some didn't had nothing at all. So after processing around 50 (more or less) gift cards, she managed to pay for the whole thing with the leftover of all of those cards. Now the funny thing happens next... The computer / register thinks that EVERY, SINGLE, CARD, has a different owner, therefore it printed the same receipt around 50 times. The receipt that came out for each card, would made the ones we get from going to CVS go to shame( or at least go toe to toe ). Each receipt had all of her food, but also all of the deduction / transaction of every single gift card used in the order. The receipts came out, one by one, after like the 10th one out, the lady stood in shock on how many receipts are there. The printer kept puking out more and more, to the point I was about to get covered with receipts, if it wasn't for my supervisor and boss luckily show up and see me trying to handle this predicament. They stood there with me, and like 5 min into this thing, and the printer still giving more receipts. Then whole roll of receipt paper ran out, and asked for more paper since it still needed to print more. We replaced it, and it kept giving us more and more. Another few minutes it FINALLY STOPPED. So after this thing finished I finally could get the next customer ( luckily we have more than 1 register, so there was no down time ) But now it gets even funnier... When I took the next customer, and I went to open the menu button to input the customers order, the computer/register decided to die.... it just turned off, it didn't want to turn on... I checked everything, my supervisor and boss also did, and we couldn't find nothing wrong. The register just went kaput... or decided it needs a break... But later on in the day, we managed to get it up and proceeded the day as normal. So yeah, this is one of the funniest incidents that happened to me when I worked at a restaurant. submitted by /u/LeStachyPoro to r/TalesFromTheFrontDesk [link] [comments]
