I (27F) rent a house with 2 other girls Tessa (26F) and Charlie (31F). It’s a 5 bed 3 bath with a finished basement, it’s in a pretty nice neighborhood and we got it for a steal so we’ve been here a couple years. Onto the issue, I work from home and Tessa has a hybrid schedule. When we all moved in Charlie wanted us to pay more rent since we would be setting up offices in the 2 spare rooms. The basement is finished so we offered for her to set up a space just for her down there, but she didn’t like the idea of being banished to the basement (her words). So Tessa and I both agreed to pay a little more rent. However, my condition was my office was not to be a shared space. Tessa didnt care about if other people use her room, but this pissed off Charlie. Charlie started arguing with me about what if she has guests and what if she needs to use an office space for something. Tessa tried to diffuse and said her office could be a mixed use room but that wasn’t good enough for Charlie. After a little back and forth she agreed to the terms and it wasn’t really brought up again for over a year. Well Charlie now has 2 friends coming in from Europe to stay for a couple weeks. She gave Tessa and me a heads up the other morning, fine with us we love having people come stay at the house sometimes too. She then slipped in that they’ll need to stay in both our offices since she doesn’t want them to have to put up with staying in the same room. I reminded her of my conditions of paying the extra rent and all hell broke loose. She called me self centered and a possessive weirdo and stormed off huffing. Even without the boundary, I can’t just give up my office for a couple weeks. I would have to move my whole set up to my bedroom, and I have a job that requires me to have multiple screens going with the type of work I do. Tessa is wanting to keep the peace and offered to help me set up something in my bedroom and that maybe I should just drop it. This is really the only issue we’ve ever had, it’s been a great roommate experience otherwise. That has me wondering if maybe I’m not being adaptable enough? So, AITA? Edit: okay I really didn’t think this was gonna be a popular post since it’s just a roommate squabble. Im seeing a lot of the same questions so: Total rent is 1800, Charlie pays 500, Tessa and I each pay 650. We split all utilities 3 ways except internet, Tessa and I split that since we need it to be high speed. The house is about 1600 sq ft without the basement, i cant remember the exact square footage of the basement. The offices are the smallest rooms, and I could technically move my desk into my bedroom. However moving my setup to the basement would take extra work as my desk wouldn’t fit down the stairs. Finally finished setting up this corner workspace. I wanted something warm and comfortable instead of bright RGB, so I used soft lights, plants, and a simple white desk to make the setup feel more relaxing. The corner layout helped me use the space better, and the shelves made the wall look full without making the desk messy. At night the warm lighting makes the whole setup feel really calm, which is exactly what I wanted. Still changing small things, but this might be my favorite version so far. I don’t want to leave this community but every time I’m on here it’s “why does no one like black people” “why is my hair ugly” “is this white man playing me” “am I ugly” like damn. I’m 31, I’m confused as to what the age range is in this community? A lot of the problems in here I see are (for lack of a better word) immature. Finally finished setting up this workspace. I wanted to go for a clean all-white look with soft lighting and a minimal layout, so I kept everything simple and tried to hide as many cables as possible. The triple monitor setup makes multitasking much easier, and the wall light panels added a nice glow without making the desk feel too bright. Tried to balance aesthetics and productivity so the setup looks good but is still comfortable to use every day. Still tweaking small details, but this is probably my favorite setup so far. We finally moved in to our house, and now we have a decent space to do whatever we want! I had to start with the desks as I work from home, and came up with this dual Karlby standing desk setup for me and my wife. I made a major upgrade to my desk setup near the end of 2025, going into 2026, with a new adjustable 4-leg frame and a custom maple wood top. The lumber warehouse and carpenters I worked with did a wonderful job and the top is absolutely gorgeous, the photos don't even do it justice. Probably my cleanest cable management to date as well! Currently searching for some wall art or decoration and a nice floor lamp for the room to bring it all together with some more personality. After several weeks of searching for the ideal place, I finally moved 🤍 This time the change was bigger, I didn’t just update my setup, I changed my entire space. Hey everyone, I'm redoing my work & casual gaming setup and could use some advice on a few things. Planning to get a new sit-stand desk and just update the whole setup. Any advice is welcome! Desk Size: The space for my desk is 209 cm wide. My current desk is 140x60 cm, between the desk and the closet in the picture is 40cm. I want to go bigger for more space, especially since I often work with my laptop. I'm deciding between a 180 cm or a full 200 cm wide desk. How do you think each would look in the space? I'd also like a deeper top, but I'm worried it might look too bulky compared to my closet. Any thoughts? Desk Colour: I'm looking at a sit-stand desk with a little darker wood top and a black frame. Do you think I can make this color combo work in my room. Wall Decoration: This is a work in progress. Hi All - I wasn't going to post another update (at least not this soon), but have gotten dozens of DMs/messages asking if I am okay and how things are going - so this is specifically in response to those who were checking in on me. To recap my story, I first posted a couple weeks ago that my husband accused me of financial infidelity after I spent $5K of my own "fun money" allotment on a gaming computer, desk and chair, even though my spending was within our agreed-upon rules; he subsequently "admitted" that he wasn't really upset about the gaming setup, but about what he perceived as a lack of professional ambition (I'm a senior software dev and we make the same salary at the moment), plus he wanted me to cook more elaborate meals, put more effort into home decor, and dress up more for him. Finally, about a week later he accused me of being "low value" due to not being a virgin when we met (at age 21 - neither was he - and he never once previously criticized that in our 12 years together) and told me he was having an affair with a younger coworker who had been a virgin (gross, I know). Then he moved out (and in with her). Folks have been asking me this week how things went with him picking up his stuff, meeting with my lawyer, etc. so wanted to share those updates for anyone interested. So, he was supposed to come get his stuff on Tuesday evening, a couple days ago, but told me at the last minute he couldn't because "Amy" (his girlfriend) wasn't feeling well. Some people called in the comments, but yes, she's pregnant apparently. He told me this on text so I have proof of the affair in writing now, it's not just his word against mine. Anyway I didn't want him to keep jerking me around on the schedule, for whatever reason, so I told him I'd pack his stuff for him and arrange for movers. I think it's better that way, I really didn't want him/them in the house. I already had arranged for a friend to come over on Tuesday when he and Amy were supposed to come by so the two of us spent the evening packing his clothes and other personal effects. The movers came yesterday and got the boxes and the furniture items he wanted. He didn't want much, just the stuff from his home office and his dresser, as apparently Amy's apartment is small. I provided a detailed inventory and photos of everything, which he approved, so he can't say that I broke or otherwise ruined his stuff. After that yesterday I went to the clinic to get STD tests (won't have the results for a week or so, but thankfully I haven't had any symptoms) and met with my lawyer, who said I had a good case for grounds of adultery and mental cruelty if I want/need to go that route (at a minimum it's leverage to get him to settle quickly and quietly). Also locked down all the finances within the parameters provided by the lawyer so that he can't empty our joint funds or take anything that belongs to me, changed account beneficiaries and all that fun stuff. Changed the locks to the house too. I decided to take the advice of some of the commenters and am getting rid of the bed and other bedroom furniture I shared with him (I'm donating it, someone is coming this afternoon to haul it all off) and am going to completely redecorate the bedroom to my own taste (that will take a bit, staying in one of the guest rooms in the meantime). I'm also taking a spa weekend away, leaving tomorrow morning and back Sunday night, just to get a change of scenery before I have to go back to work next week. And yes, even after buying the gaming setup, I have plenty of "fun money" left in my account to afford my lawyer's retainer and redoing the bedroom as well as my getaway, with plenty left over - here's to frugality when it counts! Those are the main updates for the moment. I'm doing better than expected, I think, and realizing more day by day that it really wasn't a good marriage, at least not for the last couple years when he started expecting me to do everything around the house, and all the other emotional labor of running our lives outside of work, with no help and little to no gratitude. Amy sure is going to have her hands full. EDIT: Once again, I cannot thank everyone here enough! I need to get ready for my spa weekend away :) so apologies if advance if I have not responded to your comment or DM, but I am really grateful for all the support and encouragement. When I was 15 years old I decided that having a normal PC would be too boring and designed and built this PC desk all by myself. Now the desk itself is already over 5 years old and still running fine. I added more and more monitors and upgraded the decoration from time to time but the desk is still the original version. The PC is completely water cooled, the mic interface was recently integrated in the slope of the desk and the decoration was improved with the Tesla decanter, Gigabeer and cyber whistle.
