If you've ever been cheated on this revenge story is for ALL OF US. About a year into dating my (ex) boyfriend, I met his family for the first time during Thanksgiving and stayed overnight at their house. Dinner went well, and everyone was warm and welcoming. The next morning is where shit hit the fan. While he was in the shower, his phone kept buzzing with calls and texts. I glanced at the screen and saw a message that said, “Babe, I miss you,” from an unsaved number. I called the number from my phone, and the woman who answered told me everything about their relationship. They met at their work and he presented himself as single and pursued her around the same time we started dating. I was obviously devasted but more so disgusted by this discovery and immediately went into revenge mode. When my boyfriend came out of the shower, I acted normal. We went downstairs to greet his family for breakfast and I discreetly brought my bags down with me. I announced to his family, “I just found out your son has been cheating on me, so I won’t be staying for breakfast or any future meals.” They were stunned, and he looked terrified. Luckily, we had driven separately, so I immediately left and started driving home. On the way, I got angrier and decided on one last petty move. Months earlier, I had gifted him a living and dining room set that I got for free from a friend who was moving out of state. I called a pal who has a pickup truck and asked her to meet me at his apartment. Using the key he had given me, we went inside and took back everything I had gifted him, dining table, chairs, couch, coffee table, side tables, leaving the room completely empty. I think it’s even more beautiful than I had imagined after seeing it in my dining room. The only listing for the chairs I could find online was a set of 6 selling for $4.8k. We got 8, and I like the orange upholstery of ours much better than the ones listed online. And the table seems to be listed for upwards of $3k online without the custom glass top we got with our set. Altogether I paid $3k and that feels very reasonable to me. Just got off the maiden voyage and our table mates, who are pearl, talked about not eating in the main dining rooms anymore (mostly on the wish as they’ve sailed that one a lot) because they are tired of those three restaurants. I didn’t ask what they do in regards to tipping because I didn’t think of it at the time and etiquette. Anyway, if you decided to avoid the main dining rooms and only ate on deck, room service (where you’d tip) or a night in Palo (again tipping here), would you still tip the main dining staff or have the tips removed by guest services for the team that you never had seen or been served by? Curious as to what people would do and why. Am curious also to what the non American passengers also think as tipping is not so in your face for every single thing like here in the states. Edit: before people come at me, I still eat in the main dining rooms because I enjoy them, so the non tipping doesn’t apply to me. I mean, it won't happen tomorrow, but if it happened eventually, they wouldn't be the first huge company to disappear. Update: I now know that if you call out McDonald's in a social media post that gets three quarters of a million views in 12 hours, and if your post has details they can match up to an online complaint form, you will get a personal phone call. 🤣 I'm not gonna turn down a free meal, but it's unlikely to affect my overall assessment, nor to increase the chances of me going there in the future. 🤷‍♂️ Now back to my original rant..... It's like they're trying to drive away their customers. You pay a premium to order from a real person. To get a decent price you have to order through an app that is tedious to use. They actively discourage anyone from using their dining room. And don't even get me started on what has happened to their food. But back to the customer experience, the last time I went to McDonald's I ordered through the app as was my usual routine. I went inside to pick up my food, because I've found that this is usually much faster. They gave me my food. No drink, and no cup to get it myself. I asked for a cup, and they said they couldn't give me one. Why not? The soda fountain in the dining room "doesn't work anymore" (their exact words). What does "anymore" mean? Has McDonald's stopped letting customers get their own drinks? I never did find out what that meant [Edit: I have since learned that they are indeed phasing out self-serve refills in the US], but I explained that I'd ordered a meal and it was supposed to come with a drink. They said they were "working on it." Three employees were just standing around doing nothing. I begged for my drink. They just shrugged. Eventually, I decided that if this was the way it was going to be, I would leave without it and never set foot in a McDonald's again. And so that's what I did. To me, things like this are signs of a deeply troubled company. Before I sat down to tackle this I thought it would be a 2 day job. I proved myself wrong. I just kept grabbing and shoving into trash bags and grabbing and shoving and suddenly I have 9 bags full of garbage and a clear pathway between the kitchen and living room. I know the area by the living room archway is still a little narrow because of the boxes, but those will be dealt with later. And for everyone who asks why I have to go through everything and why I can’t just get a shovel and put everything into a garbage can without looking at it: I found 3 sets of printed photos, with their film negatives (like what you get from Costco) of family members and friends from when I was little. All shockingly completely intact with no mouse or water or food damage. That’s why I go through everything. Nearly everything has beeb thrifted, dumpstered, or yard saled over the past 25 years. The only “new” furniture here are the shelves and rug… even the couch was free. Most of my stuff has been in storage in another state for the past 4 years. It’s exciting to see it again along with all the new stuff I have accumulated since I unexpectedly moved cross country. The art prints of Elizabeth Taylor came from the artist directly after I got one of her original paintings for free on Craigslist. It was very valuable and I gave it back to her for free many years later. The original was 6’x4’. I have a vintage lamp problem. I have about 20 more that I have not yet found a place for. I have a thing for very boring commemorative plates. The 3d astronaut prints came from an eccentric street vendor in nyc who had bought the original 1960s stereo cameras and negative. I bought them in 2001. They are probably the things I have had the longest in this room. Little Miss No Name got a foot injury during her cross country trek. I’m very sad about it. Even the plants were free and mostly came from cuttings. The lightbulbs for the Sputnik chandelier cost more than the fixture itself. I built one of Jory Brighams Hank chairs with the plans from the Wood Whisperer and my wife loved the design but wanted it narrower are less like a lounge chair for the table. So I thinned the dimensions and made a set of three. All were made with number two common black walnut and classic tobacco leather for the seats. Hi all. I live and work in Huntington, WV. The city has been putting in more cycling infrastructure and recently got a B rating from People For Bikes. I semi-frequently bike into work since it’s only 3.5 miles away. Today, I headed out a few hours before I need to be at work so I could take my time, beat the heat, and grab some breakfast before settling down to read on the college campus where I work. There’s a Wendy’s half a mile down the road and I like their breakfast deal, so I pull up front and lock my bike to the fence on their outdoor seating area. Side note: I’ve mentioned that a bike rack would be really nice to have, but have been told that having a bike rack at Wendy’s is against corporate policy (yeah, okay). I had put in a mobile order for carryout as I was doing this, and when I go around the corner to enter the store I see a sign. “Dining room closed due to maintenance issues. All mobile orders and delivery orders use the drive-thru is open [sic]. Thank you”. Well, I guess I don’t have a choice. I go and unlock my bike and thankfully there isn’t any traffic for people getting breakfast orders because I am between traffic rushes. I know as soon as I go around the corner to the drive-through there’s gonna be an issue because I see that they likely have a set up that needs the weight of a vehicle to trigger the drive-through. I wait for a minute or two and nothing happens so I pull up to the windows to see if I can catch somebody’s eye. I can’t see anybody in this restaurant. I am convinced that it is deserted. I see a vehicle pulling up to the speaker so I circle back around and get behind them. They put in their order without any problems and as they are pulling away before they get off of the pressure sensor, I try to interject and get the attention of the person in the drive-through via the speaker. That doesn’t work. Another car pulls up behind me. I try sitting at the speaker again and the person at the payment window makes eye contact with me as I’m sitting at the speaker. I see that they have the drive-through headset on but nothing happens. The car in front of me pulls up to the pick up window and I pull up to the payment window. The worker takes the order of the person in the car behind me and then starts to walk away from the window. I will admit that I immediately felt like I got struck by some Karen lightning… because what the fuck. I knock on the window. They turn and look at me and open the window and say “I can’t serve you if you aren’t in a car”. That would be mostly fine with me except that there are literally zero other options and I can no longer cancel this order. You could say that I could let it go and just call it a loss at $3.21 but this is kind of ridiculous. The only option that you have to access this particular Wendy’s in this moment is if you have a car. You can see this Wendy’s from the college campus that is half a mile down the road with students frequently walking here. It’s just bad business sense. I look at this worker who I totally recognize is underpaid and doesn’t want to deal with this bullshit, but I decide to go further and say “the sign says that all delivery and carry out orders should come to the drive-through. I’m just following directions”. “You need to come back in a car” So at this point the Karen has fully taken me over and I asked to see a manager. I explained that I have a carry out order and that I’m just wanting to pick it up since it’s already paid for and that the sign on the door says to come through the drive-through , I can see them battling with the need-a-car-policy in their head but ultimately decide that it’s not worth it and tell me to go up to the pick up window where she says my food is already waiting. The aforementioned maintenance issues looks like a car partially drove through part of the building that is on the side of the drive-through and damaged part of the wall and broke three of the windows; my guess is that it’s from someone backing up from the parking spots and not paying attention. This is on the far side of the dining room away from the ordering counter and many of the tables. This problem was started because of a car, and the only way to interact with this particular place of business at this time is in a car.
