This is a seasonal trend that peaks every November. The seasonal demand is forecasted to decline over the next year.

Why is Electric Fireplace trending?

1
Convenience and Ease of Use
Electric fireplaces are incredibly convenient and easy to use. They can be turned on and off with a simple switch or remote control, allowing users to quickly adjust the heat and flame settings to their desired level without the hassle of starting and maintaining a real fire.
2
No Need for Ventilation
Unlike traditional fireplaces, electric fireplaces do not require a chimney or ventilation system. They do not produce smoke, soot, or harmful fumes, making them a safe and clean option for indoor heating. This also means they can be installed in a wider range of locations, including apartments and condos.
3
Energy Efficiency
Electric fireplaces are generally more energy-efficient than traditional fireplaces. They convert a higher percentage of the electricity they consume into heat, resulting in less wasted energy. Additionally, many models offer programmable timers and thermostats, allowing users to control when and how much heat is generated, further optimizing energy usage.
4
Versatility in Design
Electric fireplaces come in a variety of designs, sizes, and styles, making them versatile and suitable for any home decor. They can be wall-mounted, built into existing structures, or freestanding, allowing homeowners to choose the option that best fits their space and aesthetic preferences.
5
Safety Features
Electric fireplaces are equipped with various safety features to prevent accidents and ensure user safety. These features may include cool-touch exteriors, automatic shut-off mechanisms, and overheating protection. They eliminate the risks associated with open flames, such as burns and accidental fires.

Treasure under a drop ceiling
My wife and I closed on a 1915 row home earlier this month. We fell in love with the great square footage and the fact that it hasn’t been renovated since the ‘60s. (Soooo many gaudy flips in the area) Last weekend, we decided to peek under the drop ceiling in the living room, figuring it was hiding a cracked plaster ceiling above and wanting to assess what needed done. To our infinite surprise and delight, we discovered some lovely crown molding above the fireplace, which continued on around the entire perimeter of the room! The original medallion is intact as well. Lots of little repairs to do (and honestly, we’ve discussed leaving some of the little imperfections alone), but we’re totally jazzed to find these original details intact! Also: this isn’t the flair, but has any one attempted plaster repair like this? Do you have any advice on procedure/materials? I have my own ideas, but value experienced insight. Edit: Finally got to my lappy to edit and answer a lot of the FAQ's. First off, yes there is water damage, but no there is no mold. One of the second floor radiators must have leaked decades ago. There are a lot of cracks, but I'm guessing that it's due to the age of the plaster. The second floor above it is stable, no creaks or movement. Thank you for all of the tips and advice on dealing with the chips in the mouldings themselves. Special shout out to the Redditor who gave me some local recommendations for artisans who work in plaster. As far as the electric that's running hither and yon on the ceiling, there very clearly used to be an entry hallway (the green ceiling in the 4th picture). I'm going to fur that out and drywall to the bottom edge of the crown and create a chase to hide all of that. There's a lot of electrical shenanigans going on that need to be addressed before any plaster work begins. And yes, my wife and I are SUPER thrilled to find some of the original character of the home. We both grew up in century homes and have a sickness for DIYing. I love tearing things apart and putting them back together, as well as gaining new skills - and tools - along the way. Lastly, as the mice skeletons and poison were raining down on us during tile removal, some of the glue traps were labeled "delicious banana flavor". I immediately said, "It was one of our more ethical creations, I don't understand why it wasn't more popular." and didn't have anyone around to appreciate the reference. Double lastly, anything uncovered is underneath. I have spoken. submitted by /u/mijolnirmkiv to r/centuryhomes [link] [comments]

This is your sign to buy a scope camera!
Story time about our 1892 Victorian! We’re first time homeowners and have been here since October. A few weeks ago, we bought a borescope off Amazon to try to answer some questions about where our knob-and-tube runs without putting too many holes in the plaster. A side effect of owning one of these is that I’ve of course been sticking it anywhere it will fit, whether it’s relevant to the electrical or not. We have four fireplaces and one of the mantels doesn’t have any kind of “backstop” - the horizontal surface of the mantel just meets the plaster wall at a 90 degree angle and there’s a little gap there. Last week, I pried it away just enough to fit the camera down (the scope we bought has a 5.5mm diameter) and we hit the jackpot. Clearly people have been losing things behind this mantelpiece for basically 130 years. We used a couple of crowbars and some determination to carefully pry the wooden mantel away from the tile surround and were able to fish everything free! Some of what we found: - plenty of photographs. Many from the most recent owners (who were here for 32 years), but plenty older. Only one has a partial name on the back, but we’re hoping we’ll be able to identify some of the others. - 14k necklace the previous owner’s youngest daughter lost 25+ years ago - two 1920s report cards from the second owner’s children, one still in the envelope addressed to the house! - wallpaper fragments! I’ve been geeking out for the six months we’ve been here, getting in touch with as many of the previous owners or their families as possible. The report cards were very special to find - I have been emailing the granddaughters of the second owners, both in their eighties now. Being able to send them pictures of their mother’s second grade report card was very cool! She was really bad at math. Anyway, the borescope has already more than repaid its $100 price tag. Highly recommend getting one and seeing what you find! submitted by /u/BitchExWife to r/centuryhomes [link] [comments]

Don't get stuck on that whole 'Realistic Flames' thing!
We recently went through the process of researching and then buying an electric fireplace insert. I read lots of comments in this subReddit talking about and comparing how realistic the flames are on various models of fireplaces, and so I came to believe that we should also look for the most realistic. We visited three different fireplace showrooms in our area, one of them twice, and saw several different makes and models, and frankly none of them looked especially realistic in terms of the flames, although you could see that manufacturers are trying and improving. We didn’t see either of the super high end and supposedly most ‘realistic’ models - the Dimplex Optymist or Regency Ei ranges. We focused on the Modern Flames Redstone and Simplifire models as being in our price range. The first time we went around the showrooms it was a warm sunny day so the rooms were quite bright and our eyes were adjusted to the brightness. None of the fireplaces impressed us, The second time was a cool cloudy day - a day when you feel like you want a fireplace - and when we walked into the showroom the Simplifire stood out as being the obvious choice for us. It gave the most pleasing sense of warmth, and looked far more satisfying than the Redstone, so we ordered the 25” Simplifire. It took me just a couple of hours to unpack, put it together with the larger surround we ordered with it, and get it set up in our fireplace. We were immediately delighted with it, and continue to be so over a week later. My wife LOVES it, and she was the one really pushing for a fireplace. Visitors have loved it and commented on the pleasing aesthetic of the design. I'm including a short video here for the visual. What we realized, and what I want to convey here, is that ‘the most realistic flame’ is not the key factor, at least not for us. We were never going to sit in front of of one of these fires and stare into it like a camp fire. I think if we did that even the most sophisticated electric fireplace would probably fail the test. The key is that we wanted a FEELING OF WARMTH in the room, and not just in a temperature sense, but in the ambient sense of the room having a warm hearth center. I think that the Simplifire's fake hot embers are pretty realistic and radiate a sense of heat more then the flames which honestly are not that realistic, but convincing enough when they're just seen out of the corner of your eye, which they are most of the time. Now, whether we’re sitting reading, watching TV or eating dinner, the warmth of the hearth is a presence in the room, and exudes a cozy feeling, even though it’s not giving out any heat (we haven’t used the actual heater part yet, and don’t really plan to). It changes the feel of the room. It’s psychological really, but important to understand and consider when you’re looking for an electric fireplace in my/our opinion. Don't get stuck on that 'realistic flame' thing! submitted by /u/Cali-Jiva to r/electricfireplaces [link] [comments]

Are there no realistic electric fireplaces??
I’m buying a new home and would like a fireplace. I want to get a gas fireplace but cannot put one in without voiding my home warranty which leaves me with electric or ethanol, I guess. None of the electric fireplaces look even remotely realistic that I’ve seen. The ethanol ones haven’t been highly recommended. How cheesy are stand alone electric fireplaces?
I need an electric space heater in our small family room. It's an addition that was added and it just doesn't retain heat, and the only thing in the budget to warm this room up when we're in it is a space heater. I'm afraid a stand along fireplace heater will look cheesy, but the tower space heaters are ugly too. Not sure which route to go. Do you walk into someone's house with a fake electric fireplace and secretly snicker? Do you walk into someone's house with a space heater on the floor and feel like you're in a trailer park? Electric Fireplace switch works no matter what breakers are flipped
I need to replace the switch on my gas fireplace. It is the style attached and doesn’t stay flipped “on” anymore which I have been told means the switch is going bad. I am trying to turn power off to the switch, but no matter what breakers I turn off it will still power the fire on. I turned the whole house breaker off and tried just to be sure.
