BREAKING: Russia’s FSB Linked Hackers Just Used A Leaked iPhone Exploit Kit Called DarkSword, And Apple Is Now Sending Emergency Lock Screen Warnings To All iPhone Users 🤯
Cybersecurity firms Proofpoint and Malfors disclosed on March 28, 2026 that the Russian state-sponsored hacking group TA446, also known as Callisto, COLDRIVER, and Star Blizzard and assessed to be operated by Russia’s Federal Security Service, ran a spear-phishing campaign on March 26 using fake discussion invitation emails spoofing the Atlantic Council to deliver GHOSTBLADE dataminer malware and the MAYBEROBOT backdoor onto iPhones via the recently leaked DarkSword iOS exploit kit. Among the confirmed targets was Leonid Volkov, the political director of Alexei Navalny’s Anti-Corruption Foundation and a prominent Russian opposition figure, with the broader target list spanning government agencies, think tanks, universities, financial institutions, and legal entities in a scope Proofpoint described as significantly wider than the group’s typical operations. The DarkSword kit includes an initial redirector, exploit loader, remote code execution capability, and a Pointer Authentication Code bypass component, with TA446 using server-side filtering to ensure the exploit only activated when an actual iPhone browser clicked the link rather than a security sandbox. The campaign marks a significant tactical shift for TA446, which had never previously targeted Apple devices or iCloud accounts before acquiring DarkSword capabilities. A DarkSword loader uploaded to VirusTotal was found referencing a second-stage domain directly attributed to TA446, and a urlscan.io result confirmed the group’s controlled infrastructure was actively serving every component of the exploit kit. Proofpoint noted that email volume from TA446 has been significantly higher in the past two weeks, suggesting the group is treating the newly available iOS attack surface as an opportunity for an expanded, opportunistic collection campaign rather than a narrowly targeted operation. Apple responded by pushing unusual Lock Screen notifications directly to iPhones and iPads running older iOS versions warning users of active web-based attacks and urging immediate software updates, a step the company rarely takes and which signals it is treating DarkSword as a broad consumer-level threat rather than a limited nation-state tool. A new version of DarkSword was simultaneously leaked on GitHub, and Lookout principal researcher Justin Albrecht warned that the plug-and-play nature of the leaked kit allows even technically unskilled threat actors to deploy what was previously a nation-state-exclusive espionage tool, effectively turning advanced iOS exploits into commodity malware accessible to anyone. Albrecht added that DarkSword directly challenges the widely held belief that iPhones are immune to cyberattacks and that sophisticated mobile exploits are reserved only for campaigns against heads of state or senior government officials. submitted by /u/InterstellarKinetics to r/InterstellarKinetics [link] [comments]

Why aren't flare guns a common prepper/bugout/emergency item in most people's kits?
I have 2 of these Orion flare guns. One from over 20 years ago that cost like $5.99 that still freaking works, and one from maybe 5 years ago that cost maybe $20. 99% of gear videos never feature them, but have a god damn orange square cloth for some reason. you really think your signal patch is gonna garner more attention than 4x 30 seconds of ridiculously bright 200ft vertical illumination? you could be entirely surrounded by forest and this thing will punch thru the canopy and a chopper can directly pinpoint your location. and the powder can be used for emergency fire stuffs as well. all around a good investment in any emergency kit, no matter the cost today. submitted by /u/Behold_My_Stuff to r/prepping [link] [comments]

Thoughts about urban emergency kit for 72h blackout
Hi, After receiving recommendations from the Dutch government to have a 72-hour emergency kit, which should include flashlights, I became interested in this topic. After reading this subreddit, here is what I came up with for a family of two living in an urban area in the Netherlands. I would appreciate your thoughts and recommendations on what I should change or improve. Primary flashlights: - 2× Wurkkos FC11C with Nichia 519A LED - 4× Panasonic and 4× Samsung 18650 batteries, charged to 3.9 V - 2× diffusers for lantern-like use Secondary flashlights: - 2× Fenix E12 V3 Headlamps: - 2× Fenix HM23 V2 Batteries for primary and secondary lights: - 12× AA Panasonic Eneloop 2000 mAh - 12× AA IKEA LADDA 2450 mAh - Batteries of last resort: 10× Energizer Ultimate Lithium Lantern: - Sofirn LT1 Charger: - Nitecore i4 with a USB-C to 12v cable, so I can use it with a power bank or a laptop charger My plan is to refresh all NiMH and 18650 batteries once per year. I normally use a SkyRC MC3000 charger; the Nitecore i4 is just a backup charger, as it is small and fits easily in this case. I decided to stick with AA batteries because of the low self-discharge of modern NiMH cells and their availability in regular stores, as well as the very long shelf life of primary lithium batteries, which can be stored for 10–20 years. The 18650 batteries are an addition for situations where I need a more powerful flashlight. They are also standardized across my emergency radio and the Sofirn LT1 lantern, so I can interchange them if needed. I'm doing my best to not buy more flashlights than necessary but it is very hard to resist with things like Wurkkos ts27. Before starting this kit I had only one Fenix e03 and it was enough for my lifestyle. Update 1: This is blackout emergency kit to cover multi-day grid outage like in Spain last year or in Berlin this year. I'm not going to carry this box with me. This is not war emergency kit nor evacuation emergency kit, just a nice box for storage. submitted by /u/Dependent_Attempt_41 to r/flashlight [link] [comments]

Feedback on my emergency prep kit?
full checklist I assembled a kit a few years ago, relying mostly on Wirecutter's recommendations for an emergency prep, bug-out bags, roadside emergencies, and earthquakes. Well, Wirecutter updated their article recently, so I figured it's time to review and update my kit too. About me: My SO and I live in an apartment in San Francisco, CA. We're indoorsy people, not sporty or outdoorsy people. Skills: Minimal medical / BLS skills. Zero wilderness skills; never been camping. Risk factors: earthquakes and wildfire smoke. What am I prepping for: We can't prepare for a zombie apocalypse. Instead, I'm preparing to make a bad situation a little bit better. If disaster struck, I imagine that we'd either shelter in place or evacuate to a local friend/family member's house, or a motel. Emergency kit organization: 3 travel backpacks, 1 tote bag in the car, and stuff at home (1) Osprey 36L Farpoint wheeled backpack: I think this is the best of both worlds As a carry-on: The area is mostly paved roads, so it will be easier to roll most of the time. As a backpack: If wheels aren't viable, then the backpack is fine. My SO will likely be the person carrying the 36L Farpoint. In addition, the Osprey 36L can clip onto an Osprey 15L Daypack if needed. (2) My backpack: Osprey 15L Daypack (3) SO's backpack: Osprey 15L Daypack Car: tote bag Home: Stuff that will only be at home. Obviously, anything in the backpacks will likely also be available at home. Questions: Any general feedback about my emergency kit? Anything to add or remove? Everything is already so heavy! - the laptops, first-aid kit, clothes, water bottles, etc. If I add anything, I'd prefer to remove something else at the same time. How much cash should I keep? Water: I could add a 2nd Costco case of water bottles to keep at home. Communication: I don't think I need to buy a weather radio? It's an an urban area, I get Google alerts on my phone, and I will notice through my window if people are fleeing 😕. And the weather radios seem bulky and pricey. Food: I didn't pack any food in the 3 backpacks because of the weight, but maybe I should put the CLIF bars in the backpacks. Health and hygiene: A good first-aid kit is decently sized, whereas I don't think a tiny boo-boo kit is worthwhile anyway. What is your tradeoff? Car: I think we should add extra prescriptions, extra water (although storing plastic water bottles in the car isn't great), and maybe snacks submitted by /u/SpinWave0704 to r/bugoutbags [link] [comments]

Everyone said my "emergency survival kit" is a stupid idea, but I find it genius
I'm starting my internship soon and then I'll finally get my degree (yay). But I will have full time work hours and working with public all day, so I think is natural to feel absolutely panicked, right? To feel some sort of control over this and to anticipate any possible meltdown, I made a small "survival kit" with stuff I will probably need and will regret not having at hand, so I can throw it in my back-pack and forget about it until needed. Right now I have Sugar Instant coffee My favorite tea bags, Sweets, Tissues, Bandaids, Headache medicine Propolis spray in case my voice decides to stop working. Extra hair bands Fidgets Hand sanitizer. I kill two birds with one stone: On one hand, I feel more in control and prepared, so I feel less anxious. On the other, having this 'just in case' will probably help my future me and future me will be pleased to have thought ahead. I don't know why people think this idea is stupid. What should I actually keep in my car? What roadside emergencies should I actually be able to handle?
I'm trying to make sure I have the right gear to handle emergencies, winter weather, road trips across the U.S. with friends and family in all seasons. The two main questions I have are: - What emergencies should I actually be prepared to handle? - What equipment is it actually helpful to have? Bonus questions: what have you used the most from your emergency kit? What have you been relieved to have? What have you never touched but still keep? What do you think doesn't belong even though people recommend it? Things like a spare change of clothes, fire extinguisher, or tire pressure gauge made me think "oh that's so smart" but things like candles and seatbelt cutters and extra fuses I wonder what circumstances I'd actually use them submitted by /u/scarcelyberries to r/askcarguys [link] [comments]

Emergency kits for every budget: Preparedness without the overwhelm
Let’s face it—preparing for emergencies can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re not sure what you need or how much to spend. But the good news is, you can build an emergency kit that works for your life and budget. Here’s a breakdown to get you started. You don’t need to spend a fortune to feel prepared. Start small and focus on what matters most: 1. Water: A pack of water purification tablets or a small portable filter (around $10–$20). Power: Grab a hand-crank flashlight/radio combo ($15) to cover light and updates. First Aid: Basic first-aid kits can be found for $10–$15. Add items you already have, like painkillers or band-aids. Snacks: Stock up on protein bars or canned goods from your pantry. Tip: Use a backpack or sturdy tote you already own for storage. No need to get fancy—just get started. If you want to cover every base, here’s how to build a kit that handles it all: Water: Get an advanced filtration system like Grayl ($80) or a larger portable water tank for storage. Power: Invest in a higher-capacity power station (~$150) that can charge small appliances. First Aid: Tailor a kit to your household’s needs. Include prescriptions, EpiPens, or any essential health supplies (~$50–$100). Tools & Extras: Add durable gear like a multitool ($60), fire starter, and survival blankets. Store everything in a rugged, waterproof bag. Your life isn’t one-size-fits-all, so your emergency kit shouldn’t be either. A kit for someone living in a flood zone looks very different from one for someone preparing for winter power outages. Take stock of where you live, your family’s needs, and the emergencies you’re most likely to face. submitted by /u/DrTrauman to r/prepping [link] [comments]

Emergency car kit essentials from actual people and not buzz feed bullshit
I want to learn from the perspective of actual people that have lived in this fucking endless winter, previous russia, ass state. Mostly things that will be applicable in an emergency situation and not the fluff suggestions you get from those who consider themselves 'I moved to Alaska, and these are the top ten things (insert shit here)'. What do I actually need in my emergency car kit, as a person who is in constant custody of my 1 year old? What should I really invest in and what items work just as well as their inexpensive counterparts? Before y'all come for me, I didn't want to move here, but I respect that the difficulty level is set to expert mode vs the FL beginners level. submitted by /u/Weird-Impression9956 to r/alaska [link] [comments]

Am I wrong for putting together an emergency menstruation kit for my daughter (I'm the dad)?
Been divorced for 3 years and am a single dad. Last year my daughter started middle school, so I thought it would be a good idea to have an emergency kit incase she started her period. She started it yesterday. She told her mom and her mom asked if she had pads. Daughter told her "Dad had a pack ready for me in my school bag". This morning I got a long text about how she still has a mom to help her with this, and that it's inappropriate, and weird that I would do this. I text her back saying that as a single dad I'm always gonna make sure that she is taken care of when in my care and is prepared. But a small part of me is wondering if I did something wrong. thank you everyone for the supportive words and encouragement. I feel much better knowing that I didn't cross any type of lines. And all of your comments have made me much more confident when it comes to how I parent my daughter. Love and respect to you all submitted by /u/kapowshablam to r/amiwrong [link] [comments]

People who actually had to break out their "go bag" or their 72-hr emergency kit, how much of a difference did it make? Have you replaced it? Made changes?
I tried to ask this in /r/askreddit but it was too open-ended. submitted by /u/pakled_guy to r/preppers [link] [comments]

LPT Keep an emergency sanitary kit in your car for the lady in your life
If you have a lady in your life keep a couple of tampons, sanitary pads and a spare pair of underwear in a sandwich bag and put it in your glove box. That way you're always ready if she is caught short when out and about Edit: I think something has gotten lost in translation here. 'lady in your life' refers typically to girlfriend/wife' so we're not talking about giving random strangers random underwear here. submitted by /u/chalky87 to r/LifeProTips [link] [comments]
