Hat suggestions for European summer
I’m traveling to Europe this summer and want a hat to help with the sun. I’d like something straw or similar, but not a huge floppy brim hat. I do like those - but they tend to catch the breeze and they’re just not comfortable for all day. What styles should I look for? I just want something comfortable and unfussy, with a moderate brim. I’ll mostly be wearing it with linen outfits or casual dresses. My budget maxes out at about $50 usd, which I know isn’t enough for a Proper Hat, but again - this is for a vacation more than anything else. Thanks in advance!! submitted by /u/drowned_in_books to r/hats [link] [comments]

Community Favorite
After the recent update news, I’ve been seeing a lot more discussions from players getting ready by gathering community-recommended mods and rebuilding their load orders. Figured this would be a great time to ask the community for everyone’s all-time favorite mods across every category. I’m currently building a large, curated Fallout 4 Xbox pre load order and wanted to make a community-driven list of the best mods in each category. Whatever recommendations you drop, I’ll be adding them into this list and building it into a personal mod library/reference collection for future load orders. If you notice something that seems off, let’s discuss it, learn, and improve the load order together! I’ll be placing your recommendations using the Xbox Load Order Guide created by the amazing people in this community. Their guides and templates have helped newer modders like me understand proper mod placement, stability, and performance much better, so huge credit to the veterans here who put that work together. You can list: Your must-have mods Hidden gems Best performance-friendly options Mods you always build around Mods that never leave your load order Mods that pair especially well together Feel free to post multiple mods per category. ---------------------------- 1. Racial Coding in Omori
I've seen a lot of omori fans not know that omori is actually quite a diverse game with 5/6 of the main cast being majority POC. I've decided to share my thoughts on this as an Asian-American myself and how its quite harmful to whitewash a lot of the characters and also to discuss how there is actually a lot of diversity in faraway town as a whole since I've also seen people say omoris setting (faraway town) isn't really "diverse" which is just not true. Before I start I think its important to note the context of the creator Omocat herself, who is Asian-American (specifically Chinese-American). There's a character in Undertale called Woshua who was inspired by Omocat (Omocat and Toby Fox are good friends who have collaborated together lots of times). The character's name comes from wǒ shuā (我刷), which means "I brush". Omocat has also stated Faraway town is based off of her experiences growing up which could explain why so many of its residents are Asian (could be an Asian-Enclave?). Omocat also did a fundraiser with Bo En in 2021 for the stop Asian Hate Campaign (AAPI) as it was a personal cause for the team (since a lot of them are Asian). It's clear that Omocat cares about her community and I think its beautiful her game has an Asian American lead and also why its frustrating when people whitewash Sunny/Mari. https://preview.redd.it/04bw90kpwdug1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=495fbc0a8e4a3b28f2c2287a7d7522bea42a5a60 First off I'll start off with Sunny and Mari, probably the easiest ones to explain and if you couldn't already tell they're meant to be Asian-American, specifically Japanese American. Now there's people that say that this is just a headcanon because the game doesn't explicitly state it outright but fail to realize that things do not have to be outright said to be canon. Using implicit information from several details in the game (as well as outside the game in various art and projects by omocat) its pretty blatant what omocat envisioned their ethnicities to be. Starting with the name itself Omori is a shortened version of the Japanese word Hikikomori which means a person who has socially withdrew from society and stays inside their house for a long period of time (like sunny himself), and its also a Japanese last name. Mari's name can also be found in Japan and can be written in the Kanji 真理 which means truth, a nice subtle detail for the games themes. White tulips are also used to represent sunny, which in the Japanese language of flowers (Hanakotoba) means to "ask for forgiveness" which fits the plot and themes of the game very well. The white egret orchid, used in Mari's funeral casket and is also in multiple parts of the game also uses the meaning from the Japanese language of flowers. The flower is also native to East Asia, particularly Japan (and again, Sunny's family specifically used these flowers in their daughters casket). Mari also did flower arrangement classes with her mom, which is a common thing in East Asia and Japan specifically where its called Ikebana. Mari also wears a Seifuku in headspace, which is a Japanese school-girl uniform. Sunny's house also owns and uses chopsticks, as seen in the hikikomori route. A framed photo with candles can be seen throughout headspace, particularly in the neighbors room that resembles a Mitamaya, a Shinto memorial altar used to enshrine the spirits of dead ancestors and is seen in Japanese households (in the game its obviously about Mari, as the description is always "A photo of someone familiar" as omori tries to suppress the truth). Mari and Sunny also look Asian from their straight black hair and eyes. A version of HellMari in blackspace also looks like this, with Asian shaped eyes. https://preview.redd.it/wq5grdn81bug1.png?width=144&format=png&auto=webp&s=20c2b7b4bd8db11720e71715f57bd05a5dc8545b Omori also likes Onigiri, Japanese rice balls, and while Mari is mainly known for her cookies, omocat has also shown that Mari makes bento's, with ofc Japanese dishes in it. https://preview.redd.it/5dcsgjuh8bug1.png?width=735&format=png&auto=webp&s=1610c564f5dfac2290b92cccc0e7ca542c11e4d3 https://preview.redd.it/qohw3y9n8bug1.png?width=457&format=png&auto=webp&s=4ab809462a08d69e7959d098d63f2ace54c588a2 Omocat also did art of Mari referencing a famous Japanese album cover from the song "Plastic Love" by Mariya Takeuchi which released in 1984. https://preview.redd.it/w3t0xagxabug1.png?width=821&format=png&auto=webp&s=678a50ec7b56b08e011738fd5f49cc666e5b1375 https://preview.redd.it/6hn9lugzabug1.png?width=250&format=png&auto=webp&s=7a2fc9949619d304f33ad13af60f3322e8abfb2b I also believe that Mari's perfectionism is relatable for a lot of Asian kids growing up as its common for Asian parents to set high standards for their kids and Mari was a perfectionist who studied hard (took extra classes for college), was good at an instrument (piano) and also used to do sports (softball) before she had to stop due to her injured knee, showing she was overall a high achiever and had many talents across different areas. The something is also based on a Yōkai called an Ushirogami which translates to "behind spirit" as it appears behind people, often "cowardly" people. Hellmari is based on an Onryō which is based off of the ring and the grudge, two very famous Japanese horror movies. There is also of course Sunny and Mari's parents, who are both Asian. I've seen most people agree the dad is Asian but a few say the mom isn't because of her hair color and I'd just like to say as an Asian person myself that brown is the second most common hair color for Asians and is also a popular hair color that older women dye their hair to (a lot of my aunty's have dyed their hair brown atleast once in their lives and I also know a family friend who is Korean and has natural brown hair), therefore I fully believe they are both Asian. Their dad also has a bonsai plant in their house. https://preview.redd.it/8o6tr6xppdug1.png?width=640&format=png&auto=webp&s=818cae9988d4de4af7bb4e89eeb7c8180827e859 Next are Hero and Kel which are relatively easy. They are presumably Latino, specifically Mexican due to there being an Ofrenda in their house (derived from a blend of Indigenous Aztec traditions with Catholic beliefs such as all saints day). They also have a cross in their room which combined with the Ofrenda points to there family being Catholic, as the church in Faraway town is implied to be Catholic (Mikhaels family goes there and they have crosses and bibles in their house as well as a framed photo of 'The Divine Mercy' an artwork of Jesus created by a catholic and used commonly in Catholic media (My family is catholic and my mom has multiple of this artwork at home lol). Also in Mikhaels house (and probably the most blatant catholic evidence) is the framed art of Mary of Guadalupe which is an important artwork in Catholicism (my mom also has a lot of them around the house). So its safe to say Hero and Kel are Mexican, which makes it frustrating when the fandom tends to unanimously agree on this due to the ofrenda, but some people still deny Sunny and Mari's Asianness because its not explicitly stated anywhere (even though its technically the same case with Hero/Kel) despite all the signs and its kind of a double standard/hypocritical. Next is Basil who is just white. People speculate whether he's European or just American and we don't really have much to go off of so it could be either. It is said that Basils parents are away on trips to Europe a lot if that means anything. Lastly is Aubrey, who is probably the most interesting case as there's really not much to go off of. I personally believe she is Asian (or at least Half-Asian). She has straight black hair and eyes and is very close to Mari (which is probably due to them being the girls of the group but I also interpreted their dynamic as Aubrey looking up to Mari because she was someone who looks like her (Asian) and was very good at everything she did. I think this gives a deeper meaning to their friendship as growing up in that time period as an Asian-American myself there weren't a lot of Asian role models as the media was dominated by white people, so for Aubrey to have Mari is very significant for her especially as she comes from a poor and (arguably abusive) household. This is reflected on how much Aubrey wanted to be like Mari as she served as an inspiration for Aubrey (I'm not saying its all solely due to her race I'm saying the fact they share the same race would help Aubrey relate to her more as it was someone who looked like her who is successful and in her eyes "perfect". When Mari died Aubrey started becoming rebellious and used anger as a way to cope with her death and became the exact opposite of what Mari was, which shows a contrast between the two and in a way you could interpret this as Aubrey giving up on trying to be like Mari (good grades, kind, good at extracurriculars) after her role model was taken from her (as well as of course everything else like her friend group drifting away). Another thing I just wanted to share cause I thought it was cool was how Omocat got an Asian model to cosplay Aubrey for the Hooligans Bomber Jacket photos which in my head kinda solidified Asian Aubrey. I also just believe that having more representation is good and that in western media where there are already so many white characters, Aubrey being Asian just gives more diversity. https://preview.redd.it/uw5mg9wvpbug1.png?width=495&format=png&auto=webp&s=7ec6169f64a696fb56b4c0a6ab9e6b3c73b0767a https://preview.redd.it/1qmrk60zpbug1.png?width=495&format=png&auto=webp&s=1f3de0e1576a5722683c15109caf80dee9e655dd Aubrey when she was younger also really reminds me a lot of my younger Asian cousins too lol like they look very similar. Next up I'll discuss the diversity of faraway town, which is actually pretty diverse and is why i suspect it might be an Asian enclave (lots of Asian residents as well as lots of immigrants and people of color in general). I'll start with something that I've never seen anyone discuss which is how the game codes (racial coding, not computer code lol) many faraway town residents with more yellow-ish skin as Asian. As an Asian myself I was able to notice this as well as how a lot of people in faraway town are Asian. https://preview.redd.it/2wvclbkpdbug1.png?width=306&format=png&auto=webp&s=8c81e60c593163ae31ae02d3448357126fa2f9eb First off is this family. They have 2 kids, Micheal the older one and Joy the younger daughter is Joy. There's actually quite a bit of lore on them that can be relatable if your a child of immigrant parents (like me). First off the old lady is also known as the 'Othermart Lady' but in the game files she's called AYEE, which is a common way older women are addressed in China (阿姨 / ā yí) which makes sense as she speaks Chinese to Sunny in the game. She is the grandma of Joy and Micheal. (I've seen some people complain about her being a stereotype but I thought it was just a fun gag omocat put in as she's Chinese-American herself). If you pick up the blue flyer in faraway town you can go to Joy's house and help her with english tutoring. This is pretty relatable for an immigrant child (My cousins used to get english tutoring to help get better with grammar and reading as well) especially considering this game takes place in the late 90's-early 2000's, meaning there wasn't as much resources available like today where there are lots of stuff online in the internet. Micheal is actually the main inspiration for Gibs the stationary musician in the train station in headspace, and in faraway town he performs the same song as Gibs. Micheal says that he dreams of being a musician, but his father doesn't support his dreams so he's trying to raise money to cover moving to the city, which he does after you give him $30. Only Joy gives him encouragement to chase his dreams. If you tutor Joy for all 3 days a cutscene will play in her house where she lets it slip that Micheal is moving to the city, and their dad asks us to give him a lunchbox. When we give it to Micheal he tears up and gets emotional because it was an indirect way of his dad supporting him and asks us to give a letter to his dad for him. His dad is moved by the letter and says he's been too hard on him and that he hopes to see him again, maybe even on tv. He also says he should be less hard on Joy too and that she's been spending her summer cooped up in her room, due to her studying. Overall I think this is quite a beautiful depiction of a common situation in immigrant households where parents want what they think is best for their children which is to go to school and pursue a college degree (and get a "real" job) instead of something more 'risky' such as music or art. His father coming around in the end was very heartwarming and the fact Joy says later that evening that her father was taking her and her grandma to the beach the next day shows that he is beginning to change. https://preview.redd.it/8clhcl2zqbug1.png?width=146&format=png&auto=webp&s=7fa468d99e200c65204c47204011e85875dd3873 Then there's these 2 which share the same skin tone as the previous family and also have dark hair. The man is divorced from his wife so its a single parent household. The father needs help picking out a birthday gift for his son Jesse who loves video games and wont come out of his room. We help him and the next day we see a cutscene where we convince Jesse to get out of his room for the birthday cake his father prepared. Jesse was moved by the gift and reconnects with his father. Now nothing about the story inherently has anything to do with their race, but I will comment that there's situations in immigrant households where the fathers can be disconnected from their children due to being away working all the time, and Asian culture particularly has an element of stoicism for the father specifically which is why this scene kinda reminded me of my own dad. https://preview.redd.it/maylu0ofsbug1.png?width=222&format=png&auto=webp&s=e693794576a448b9714426dc65827ff89fac1a3f Then there's Mikhaels family who are just described as from "a land across the sea" or something like that I actually dont remember verbatim but I remember reading it somewhere (dont quote me on that) but they're clearly poc (maybe indian/middle eastern/Latino or Filipino?). Mikhael also wears a blonde wig just cause he's a weeb and wants to feel that mc energy lol. https://preview.redd.it/61dmylf8tdug1.png?width=236&format=png&auto=webp&s=9d0215b4829ab6f9734212fb245bf7906fd22944 Then there's Artist and Angel who are siblings. Artist is actually based on Omocat herself who also has a younger brother. Angel also seems to have a Japanese Pompadour as his hairstyle, which was popular with Japanese delinquents back in the 70-80's. He also has a yellower skin tone while Artist has a more pale one which actually mirrors Mari and Sunny's npc sprites too as East Asians can come in a range of shades and I myself have cousins who have a more yellow hue and others who are pale. You also see this thing a lot in anime characters. This also just seems to be a thing in Asian media where the guy has a slightly more darker/kinda yellow-ish? tone and the girl has a more pale tone like for example here in Hyouka https://preview.redd.it/26qhnxjxtdug1.png?width=650&format=png&auto=webp&s=1b807f1799c06f94250be4da47ed9f8e74035e77 https://preview.redd.it/aosz8xo7udug1.png?width=109&format=png&auto=webp&s=aed388b19ca6be1330a636bbb148d2a7ee6993bf There's also this couple who may be a mixed-race couple/interracial? The guy seems to be East Asian and the girl could be Southeast Asian or another brown ethnicity. https://preview.redd.it/l13quqxuudug1.png?width=218&format=png&auto=webp&s=31e112b9ce261240b577a62b5cd0b48025427ab6 There's also these two who have that same skin tone associated with the other Asian characters and their outfits seem to be inspired by Kawaii fashion from Japan (the pink twintails. colorful outfits and the "Cute Girl" NPC wearing a pink sailor uniform). https://preview.redd.it/q09yf7rpvdug1.png?width=61&format=png&auto=webp&s=60d36168ca44f71fff177c2a143dd9fc4b466028 Theres also this Black lady who gossips with the principal (also black). https://preview.redd.it/x3sjxqsvvdug1.png?width=173&format=png&auto=webp&s=80be0e1a1f628fc2b492258601b337123fbfba21 Here's this black family in the game, with the dad being a pharmacist, the mom being a principal and the son who is very smart. https://preview.redd.it/qkxax839wdug1.png?width=86&format=png&auto=webp&s=6c73be9007ccdb87ccce8a5f037045a3070a92cf There's also Mincy, who is based on one of the Illustrators and animators of the game Minced who's real name is Charlene Lu, an Asian American Artist who works in Omocats team. Now I can't add anymore images but there are more NPC's in faraway town such as the cashiers in Othermart who are poc-coded, which supports the theory that faraway town can be considered a poc enclave. In conclusion, I made this post as a semi-rant/informative post to hopefully educate some people on the diversity that can be found within the game. I'm not trying to start drama or be divisive I've just seen a lot of ignorant people online who don't seem to notice just how diverse faraway town really is and also the racial coding within the main characters. You don't have to agree with me on certain characters like Aubrey as she's a bit more ambiguous but to the people who still don't want to believe Sunny and Mari are Asian I recommend you to reflect on why you want to see them as white so much, when there's so many white characters in western media already I want you to consider why, with all the evidence of Mari and Sunny's Japanese coding and the game coming from an Asian-American creator do you still choose to mentally whitewash them? I also think headcanoning them as mixed-race is less bad than just whitewashing them but I don't believe there's a reason to believe that other than people thinking Asian women can't have brown hair (whether natural or dyed) and I've also seen some white people using the mixed hc to have some sort of "connection" that ties them to the character still, which i why I think its important to just acknowledge them as fully Asian as there isn't much Asian Rep in the west already (not trying to invalidate mixed Asians or say they don't count as rep, but there isn't enough full Asian rep). Again this post isn't made to attack anyone and also in case anyone comments on the skin tone thing being racist Omocat intentionally colored a lot of the Asian NPC's with the yellowish hue to separate them from just being read as "white" and as an Asian American myself i find it completely valid as it isn't done in a stereotyped/exaggerated/harmful way and is also an actual skin tone many Asian Americans have. Thank you to anyone who read this far and if I got you to reflect on anything I said in this post then I am satisfied! submitted by /u/Inevitable-Cress7484 to r/OMORI [link] [comments]

A closet full of classic basics = endless possibilities. Travel capsule wardrobe for Spring in Portugal
I made this post last summer for my capsule wardrobe for Spain and Portugal and everyone seemed to like it so I'm sharing this year's version for Portugal for a cooler time of year! The last capsule wardrobe worked beautifully so I'm opting for the same simple basics in a neutral color palette (a lot of black, pale blue, white and tan). When I focus on good basics like this I find the outfit possibilities are endless. I think this capsule could work anywhere in the world IMHO. This will be a very low-key trip, mostly working remotely from there (hence the two yoga pants), a lot of walking and exploring during the day, maybe a day of shopping, and a few dinners out. I realise most of this is from Chicos haha but don't sleep on them! I used to think it was frumpy grandma clothes but their basics are so great. I especially love their tees and tanks and some of the basics in their Travellers collection. Or maybe I'm just entering middle age? Who knows! They almost always have decent sales online too. Details and links where possible down below: Black and White tank tops - from Chicos (seriously the best ribbed tanks ever) Black long sleeve layering tee - from Chicos Stripe boat neck tee - from Chicos Stripe shirt - from Ralph Lauren Tan sweater - from Banana Republic Factory (I'm obsessed with these Forever Sweaters and have them in basically every neutral color. The absolute perfect weight for spring and fall. I always pick them up on Black Friday) Blue quarter zip - from Sweaty Betty Black and Navy yoga pants - from Lululemon (they are the Groove style in the short 30' length) Khaki linen pants - from Quince Blue and White jeans - from Chicos Black jumpsuit - from Chicos (part of their Travellers line so won't wrinkle) White sneakers - from Dr Scholls (seriously some of the most comfy sneakers ever. These babies handle 20k steps with ease) Blue scarf - from Fatface Leopard flats - from Rothys Padded jacket - from Massimo Dutti (TBD on whether I take this but the weather will be cold when leaving and arriving home) Denim jacket - Forgot to add this to the photos but it's a basic blue denim jacket from Tommy Hilfiger years ago Crossbody bag - from Tory Burch Tote bag - from Longchamp Suitcase - Travelpro Maxlite 5 in Compact size Image descriptions: Image 1: Travel capsule wardrobe featuring two black and white tank tops, a black long sleeve layering tee, a stripe boat neck tee, a blue and white stripe button-down shirt, a tan v-neck sweater, a pale blue quarter zip sweater, black and navy yoga pants, green linen pants, blue and white jeans, a black jumpsuit, white sneakers, leopard flats, a navy crossbody bag, a black tote bag, and a pale blue scarf. Breaking Down Bates
1.The Stewarts are heavily narrating a story of their undying love for each other. Odd that all of this lovey dovey is rolling out at the same time her sister’s husband, and Evan’s best buddy ever, is unmasked as a fib factory, but as long as it keeps the kids off camera, they can have at it. We learn that Evan’s surprise Valentine’s dinner at the new house is cooked and served by Zach. Since when is having your older brother show up on date night romantic? I guess Whitney was willing to sit at home alone on Valentine’s so that Zach could get that premium exposure on the Stewart’s channel. Sacrifices must be made! Of course the meal was the only thing Zach knows how to do…. A steak and it bled into the mashed potatoes but Evan says that’s just how he likes it. Evan shows more of the behind the scenes in the weekly vlog and there’s no way while he was hauling dining room chairs and plates and dishes out of their house that Carlin was oblivious. This is just more BS from these fools, and the biggest tell is the fact that she has to drive herself over to the new house, and drive herself home. *Swoon*. The rest of the week Carlin is busy selling random items, and finding new ways to exploit her children. Layla is 6 and Zade is almost 4, but they are strapped into a stroller for an afternoon walk. Navy has to put up with her mom constantly filming her feet and thighs and sharing them for free. Of course Layla is followed by mommy’s camera while at ballet, and all 3 kids have to perform for a new energy drink partnership. They film at the new house, and the kids have to pretend to help the contractors while Carlin casually walks around sipping on this beverage. The new house content ramps up this week and Carlin’s Nashville designers are in town. She tags and promotes them so I am sure there’s at least a discount involved, if the entire job isn’t comped. The interior decorator promotes herself as having a “European flair with a California Coastal Vibe”…. Doesn’t that sound perfect for middle Tennessee? They pick out marble slabs and Carlin shows her mood board which is the mood of…. Beige. Shocking, right? During all of this Navy is trapped in a baby carrier strapped to Carlin for hours with certain hip dysplasia on the way. Her followers scream at her to fit the carrier correctly, but she isn’t listening to all that. This baby is a prop, remember. Baby sister Addee turns 20 and Carlin and her sisters take her out to the Cheesecake Factory to celebrate. All of the local sisters are there except Tori, and they are all dressed in formal wear for no other reason except content. Can you imagine rolling up to that mall and seeing a pile of fundie chicks standing around in the parking lot dressed like it’s New Year’s Eve? This is the perfect opportunity for Carlin to trot out her $2800 Prada purse. Tell me again about Evan and his “investments”…Carlin calls Kelly Joe an icon, telling us all that she has no clue what that word means. Back at the home studio Carlin films Ellie, who has practically moved in, teaching Layla how to apply layers of makeup. I guess this is what they mean by “home school”. The vlog shows the family at a skating rink for Miles Balka’s 2nd birthday. This entire story was shared so that they could do 2 things….1. Have a ClickBates title for the vlog. Evan falls while skating and that turns into a “PAINFUL INJURY” and 2. Begin to rehab baby brother Warden’s image. After a month of him being dragged all across social media, and rumors that he is bedding down ladies in Carlin’s kid’s bedrooms…here he is front and center on the biggest vlog the family has to show off his “official girlfriend”. This poor chick looks shell shocked and obviously Warden just picked her up after her shift at The Buckle, but everyone can stop talking about him being an FBoy now bc looky looky, he has a girlfriend. Wonder how long until her TikTok premieres? 2.The rehabilitation of the Clark Family rolls on this week as Katie slowly returns to posting stories. Her world seems very flat and one dimensional because she is being uber careful to follow the plan and not show any truth whatsoever. We see Katie and Hailey putting on makeup, and Katie in the Jesus Gym surrounded by Carlin and Josie. Katie struggles to do a few sit ups and it’s pretty clear she isn’t a regular, even though back at home she body checks herself in the full length mirror while selling her exercise app. Katie reads a script about how sad she is that Hailey is turning 3, and then we see Travis helping her put the net on Hailey’s birthday trampoline. You know Uncle Warden was over earlier doing the heavy lifting of setting that thing up, and is just off camera waiting to finish the net when they are done pretending. The camera films them from far away but Katie is smiling and giggling with Travis, who is in a hoodie and sweats with a baseball hat pulled low. He still hasn’t had a haircut and couple that with his bland outfit and this costume is supposed to show how sad, forlorn and lost he is. Brooding, distant, dystopian daddy. Gross. That’s the only shot of Travis in any of the birthday content. He’s relegated to behind the lens to capture all of the shots of Katie prepping alone for the birthday morning. She goes way over the top to create the perfect TikTok aesthetic with paper chains, sherbet colors and balloon arches that garner her a million views in just a few hours. She is obviously still filtering comments and the #1 word on her no list is “Travis”. This means all you see is people falling all over themselves to praise her. Birthday content has to move over because momma is the only one making any money these days, and CVS wants their content. This time, Katie wants us to believe she planned a movie night for her 2 toddlers who have a combined attention span of about 13 minutes, and bought every thing needed from CVS. Has anyone been in a CVS lately? The half aisle of office supplies has a glue stick for $9 and there’s some freezer burned Dove ice cream bars behind the White Claw…her audience ain’t shopping there. While Katie reads what CVS is paying her to say, right behind her on the big screen is pictures of Travis and the family. It’s targeted advertising within advertising. This is what Currents Management Company is helping her with and we should all remember that there’s an entire pdf in someone’s inbox titled “Travis Clark Affair - Operation Oops, My Bad”. She shows up at the formal fast casual event for Addee’s birthday, and we see a quick clip of Hailey’s birthday party. It’s held at the Little Gym and the only guests seem to be Zach’s daughters, Josie’s daughters, and Layla. The influencer pack. That’s a good way to keep the family from having to interact, and keep questions at a minimum. 3.Kelton Balka and Tennessee Standard are officially putting out more content than his influencer wife these days… and maybe that was the plan all along. Kelton is the star of at least 3 reels and TikToks a day and his confidence is growing. Meanwhile, Josie is stuck in the little house at the bottom of a dead end road, business shuttered and 4 kids under her feet. Being a mommy vlogger means the same thing day after day, and this week for Josie, that means showing off the fam getting ready to head to church. She chooses just the right body con dress to keep KTron on the straight and narrow, and we see coffee, Bible Study, breakfast, babies… all the hits. Miles Balka turns 2 years old and he gets put to bed with a big bottle of milk and wakes up to a big bottle of milk every day. In between he sucks his paci and tries to root around for a spot on mom’s lap, poor little guy. His birthday party is at a skating rink… a totally logical choice for a young toddler to celebrate, right? Miles is strapped into a stroller while dad and all of his uncles fly around the rink in their tight jeans like roller derby ‘76. The rest of the week Josie hangs out with Lydia and their 6 under 6 and spends tons of time in that depressing garage where she says she’s having a hard time getting her groove back. Of course she has a protein powder sponsorship that’s going to help her…even though she never actually drinks it. 4.Alyssa Webster is down almost 10k followers since limiting social media, but she is still on a few brand mailing lists, and if she gets a PR package… she’s going to show it off. This week it was a Lisa Frank inspired Kitsch Company package of hairbows and socks. She updated her IG Bio to say “In love with my husband…coffee in one hand, chaos in the other”. Isn’t that SO cute? Meanwhile we all know the only chaos happening there is if she can get the chicken boiled in time for John to eat before heading out to another softball game. As Alyssa falls off, Ellie B is rising. This week she put it all out there, quite literally, by showing up to the Cheesecake Factory in a red bodycon dress that was sheer, sleeveless, snatched at the waist and left little to the imagination. Ellie Bates - Defrauding good little fundie boys all over the country and causing the TradWives to gasp and clutch their fresh water pearls. There’s so much hidden meaning to this one outfit, and quieter sister Addee was also in a somewhat steamy outfit of her own. Together they put the influencer 3 to shame and also put them on notice that a new generation has arrived. That’s why Carlin and Josie are on those exercise bicycles peddling like they are being chased by an astrology chart. Anyway, before she portrayed Jezebel, Ellie got permission from Carlin to film at her new house and set it up to surprise Addee with a movie night. Of course she filmed the process and had JebJud with her to help. Her reel with baby Miles has 14 million views, and she is pulling in bigger numbers than Lydia at this point. She shares her Amazon storefront, and Kelly Joe heaps the praise on her for always making sure Addee has a good birthday. Isn’t that your job Kelly? 5.While everyone expected Layla Rae Stewart to be the first to break into modeling or movies, Whitney Bates has quietly been making working away to promote her own girls. This week that paid off when Jadon, Khloe and Lilly were featured in a pajama brands St. Patrick’s Day ad campaign. They were on the brands social media, modeling, posing and playing together while showcasing the pajamas. Of course momma cross promoted it all, and we can only hope that they were paid in real money and not Skittles. Meanwhile Zach is busy selling hous…no scratch that, I mean, making pizza in that $500 pizza oven he desperately wants someone to buy. He makes a knock off dessert pizza from CiCi’s back in the 90s, and then films himself preparing more gross stuff from a meal delivery service that no one in that house will eat. Whitney lets the boys pick out a gift to give the girls for Valentine’s Day and this seems to be another fundie family that believes this holiday is only for females. Whitney is on an island as the only pregnant sister right now, but she shimmies into her tightest fit and makes an appearance for Addee’s birthday. She’s probably relieved to have a pass from the God Garage for a few months. The Bates kitchen does not post a new episode this week, even after promoting a question-and-answer session with Jackson. It is probably taking Zach hours and hours to edit and if he has to get Jackson’s approval, it may never air. Instead he fries boneless skinless chicken breasts that he has beaten to a pulp, slaps them on a roll, drowns them in mayonnaise and lies that it is the best chicken sandwich ever. 6.Lydia has been super quiet lately… Their yearly ski trip did not bring in the engagement she had hoped for, and it seems it is getting harder and harder to film in her little box. Trace has a new brand deal with a Christian golf accessory company - Golf clothes with big crosses embroidered on them and bags with scripture verses. It sounds like a company perfectly made for the Bates…. Performative Christianity. He promotes the clothes by… You guessed it… Playing golf. Snore. Lydia spends lots of time over at Josie‘s drinking coffee and wading through the mess six kids create. Trace had a birthday at the beginning of February and Kelly Joe posted a long post where she bragged about what a wonderful brother Trace was… It disappeared from her Instagram, but this past week she reposted it with some lame excuse that it had been stuck in her drafts. Tons of folks comment to tell her that is just not the case, but Kelly does not engage with her followers, so there is no further comment. Trace and Lydia don’t post a new Vlog but they do show up in the Stew Crew’s. After little Miles’ birthday party they head to Carlin and Evan’s. Trace is screaming from the window of his car “party party party”… Yeah, he’s such a frat boy and just what you think about when someone mentions Party. Lydia and Trace are there to help Warden rehab his image, and they pretend to like his flavor of the weak girlfriend. Lydia says she is working out five times a week and that garage seems to be her only outlet and escape from this sad reality. Ryker has no escape from being exploited and he shows up to help mom sell a stain remover… You can always count on the Bates for a little child endangerment and in this case, Ryker is playing with a long window treatment cord. The biggest mystery in this branch of the family right now is how Trace was able to afford to pay for most of the cabin rental during the Colorado trip. It was most likely a trade deal, either that, or he’s selling blood platelets at the clinic, but it earned him a shout out from Momma Bates, and that makes it all worthwhile. 7.Obviously Erin Paine forgot that she is supposed to be recovering from a life or death health situation, because she slipped into some bronze glitter hooker heels from the Goodwill, put on her fancy makeup and lined all 7 kids and Chad up to film them marching out of the front door headed to church. The kids give her varying faces of terror, but they know their assignment and march past the camera like good little soldiers for Christ. This reel marks Erin’s full return to social media content, and she isn’t slowing down. Carles stars in another reel that features him earnestly playing the piano. He hasn’t inherited mom’s hammer hands, yet and that lets folks know that someone other than Erin is teaching the kid to play. Erin adores Carles and he is above all others, even little Willy who takes a turn being exploited this week while Carles teaches him to pray. In the middle of the day on a Wednesday, when most people are working, Erin films Chad just hanging out in the yard, holding a baby. Why can’t this man work? I guess he is busy holding the camera for Erin to hawk her cow fat lotion and hard at work mixing up her newest creation… soothing lard lip balm. Zach uses this stuff to cook with, and Erin wants people to slather it on their lips. They could do a collab and make steak flavored tallow lip balm. Yum. Next up for exploitation is Holly Dolly. She is hard at work sister momming a wagon full of little siblings. Of course, Erin can’t help bc she has to film this “cuteness” and we watch Holly struggle to pull the loaded wagon while keeping a joyful countenance singing “this little light of mine” with all of the excitement of a chain gang member. Erin knows the age old influencer trick of showing glimpses of her kids to draw in followers, and then hit them with the grift and that’s just what she does… after asking for red light recommendations a few weeks ago, shocker… she is back with a red light of her very own and a discount code for you if you want in on this junk science. Ending the week on her typical light note, we see the baby sleeping beside her as she studies her Bible hard. She writes notes about pride, boastfulness, greed and money all being signs that the end times are near. Her words are like daggers and it’s not hard to figure out who she is aiming for. 8.Michael posts a carousel of pictures from the January snowstorm showing snow angels, snowmen, snow cream, snowsuits and snow boots, but no children of course. She also announces that she has restocked her Keilen’s Corner Shop with baby swaddles for the first time since last Summer. Chad sends her a PR package of beef fat and throws in a generic Washington DC mug because DC is MIchael’s personality since she got engaged there. We haven’t seen Brandon in a hot minute, but Michael gets all gussied up in a dress showing most of her arms and no modesty panel to go to dinner with the influencer crowd. Of course Kelly Joe is at the dinner in her own formal evening gown, and she’s once again actively losing weight… use your imagination to figure out how that is happening. She wants to be one of the girls so badly, and Gil is nowhere to be seen. She stays busy with birthday posts this week. She focuses on Bobby’s singing and piano playing for his 31st. She shares many clips of him singing at Bible Baptist, some even with his wife. Next up is Jackson and Addee. Addee is 20 and Jackson turns 24. He and his wife are back to posting to promote his JackBuilt construction business and he sends a special happy birthday to sister Addee. Hailey Clarke gets a grid post from Granny Bates and it is carefully worded to avoid her heathen daddy at all costs. By the time she makes it to Miles’ second birthday, the most she can say is that the kid smiles a lot. 9.Lawson and Tiffany are in California for another week. They’ve traded Warden for Callie and definitely got the bigger helper. Most of the week Tiffany and Callie are wandering around Old Town San Diego and the lack of Lawson terrifies me…. What if he’s off filming in some ghost town for another cowboy love song? Oh dear God, please no. When Tiffy and Lawson are together, they are back to filming their dumb couple content and Tiffy posts a reel celebrating her mother (and HER mother only)who stayed with her for 2 straight months after the birth of the second son. Their recent move to a management company has Tiffy shilling protein powders, vitamins and workout apps, just like the rest of the Bates women. While she’s busy slinging links, Lawson is able to cobble together another vlog full of old crap. Seriously, this stuff is from the week after Theo is born and has been shown to death previously. They have 2 photo shoots, yell Will’s name on a loop to get him to look at the cameras and smile, and Lawson totally traumatizes the gentle little boy by taking him to a Rocky Top Christmas gathering and throwing him in a bouncy house where he is nearly mauled by dozens of cousins. Will can only say one word “DUKE”… this is ironic bc that dog is not with them in Cali, and lives his life in a backyard pen. In true ClickBates fashion, Lawson uses Katie’s recent heartbreak to title this vlog in a way to make you think he’s going to talk about it…. “This Has Been Hard For All Of Us” But of course he doesn’t. They wrap the week up by scarring their new baby for life when they swaddle him and lay him on top of the guitar that Lawson strums while howling. I guess this is another thing he and Will can trauma bond over. At least dad kept his shirt on this time. Tiffy praises her parents again for cooking, cleaning and caring for them…. And she heaps praise on Callie too. She’s practically begging Callie to stay, and if Kelly Joe didn’t need her to get home to cook and clean for JebJud, I feel sure she would stay. 10.Bits and Bytes…. Addee topped her birthday night off by enjoying that great Duggar birthday treat, the Chocolate Mess. Just perfect for a formal event… Carlin slipped and showed that Navy Kate’s crib is back in her and Evan’s room. I guess Layla kicked her out…. Carlin also links a $17 SHEIN dress not thinking for a second that it’s the very reason her boutique went under…she also rolls out another scam giveaway where you need to follow 58 bot accounts for a chance to never ever win…Ellie spends the day babysitting for Zach and Whitney and shows off their side yard that is littered with garbage, trash, toys and cups…Everything Katie posts goes viral, including her movie night ad. CVS will single-handedly keep the lights on at the Clark home. Have a great week friends. It looks like the old groundhog was right and my flip flops are abandoned for another week! Rave Culture in Europe!
Going to Europe for the first time in the summer and will be attending multiple festivals and going to clubs. I Have only been to raves here in the US. I have this impression that Europeans abhor American rave culture. And if you’re not under a bridge next to 2 methheads and a loud speaker you’re not doing it right. My question is, what’s acceptable over there? Kandi? Trinkets? Pacifiers? Flashy revealing outfits? Would these things be judged or sharing some culture might be acceptable. Edit: going to the Netherlands and Germany. Berlin, Amaterdam, Rotterdam submitted by /u/Automatic_Flight8497 to r/aves [link] [comments]

I am watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer for the first time: done with S3 and reporting back!
Hey hey guys, I finished season 3 a few minutes ago and I'm here to report back with my comments and impressions :) For those who have missed the previous episodes of my commentary, you can find them here: S1E1-S1E7 S1E8-S2E10 S2E11-S3E2 Let's get right into it: man... Faith is very annoying and she's only been here for 5mins I wish Kendra had survived and moved to Sunnydale instead :( the concept of a Watchers' retreat in the Cotswolds is sending me 🤣 are all Watchers British? It would make perfect sense Willow, Xander and the others have been pissing me off for a couple of episodes now. I get that they didn't know Buffy killed Angel after the spell came into effect, but even without that piece of information, surely they must have realised that Buffy has been through a fucking lot? Don't tell my girl that the should be having fun... she's grieving and trying to get back to her "normal" life already. None of them would be as strong as she is, in her place my man Giles is the only one who gets it... he knew something was up and worked his way through getting Buffy to open up I know this episode is literally called The Beauty and the Beast, but to me it looks like Angel is more in his Tarzan era what are Xander and Willow doing. WHAT ARE THEY DOING the Slayerfest slaps!! Mr. Trick and his dapper suit are very cool! I hope he's this season's villain, though it looks like it might be the Mayor instead teenager Giles is unhinged, I'm dying I know Joyce and Giles getting together would be Buffy's worst nightmare lol I like that Giles defended Buffy in front of the others but then told her in private how disappointed he was in her after the Angel thing... this is how you do it Buffy telling Xander that he only wants Angel dead because he's jealous... music to my ears SPIIIIIIKEEE!!!!!!!! the Joyce and Spike saga continues, and I thank the gods for it Angel's face when he saw Spike inside Buffy's house LMFAOOO "I may be love's bitch, but at least I'm man enough to admit it." TELL THEM BABY. Spike is exactly how I like my men: down bad to the core CORDY!!! I had a heart attack, thought she'd died. She really didn't deserve any of this, and Oz didn't deserve it either Xander and Willow got on my nerves fuck this shit "We're not friends. We never were. And I can fool Giles, and I can fool my friends, but I can't fool myself. Or Spike, for some reason." I said oh I'm sure The Wish gave me anxiety. Buffy dying like that... it just doesn't feel right, don't put that kind of thought into the world although she looked amazing with that lip-scar and the whole outfit... wish she would slay me too Xander and Willow only make sense together as vampires, the writers could have stopped at that instead of ruining the relationships with Cordy and Oz (yes, I'm still salty) Giles and Angel's long awaited reunion, this hurts I love Oz... he's really great. I'm scared he will die a horrible death Angel is so dramatic, man, just get inside sigh Joyce. What the fuck are you doing not to sound like a 17th century European peasant, but witches are dangerous - I think compared to other humans with supernatural powers or even demons, they are more resourceful, they can use their power in many different ways and can potentially set off, well, anything for instance, I wonder if a spell would be able to make a vampire human again... or give Angel the opportunity to have sex without turning back into a psycho vampire lmfao in any case, very curious to see where this newfound power takes Willow I don't even know what an ice show is supposed to be but I sure as hell would have liked to see Buffy and Giles go together :( betrayal hurts x100 more when it comes from Giles 💔 HE GOT FIRED??? oh fuck off I mean the old guy said it himself, Giles loves Buffy like a father loves their child. my man is not going anywhere!! Xander and Faith???? Man what's going onnnn rectifying my earlier question. Are all Watchers attractive British men who will win: a 243yo vampire or a 18yo horny teenager GILES WITH A SWORD!! Xander and Cordelia are back to their pre-relationship banter btw. there's still hope #delulu I was warming up to her, but now I'm afraid Faith needs to go you know it's bad when Xander is 100% right and reasonable you know it's even worse when Angel has to chain you up and psychoanalyse you "she could have left me there to die, but she didn't" actually she was about to do exactly that, Buffy is way too nice to Faith rip Mr. Trick, I will miss your drip and your soothing voice every time Buffy cries I have to stare intently at the screen and hope I will get sucked into the story so that I may cradle her in my arms I LOVE VAMPIRE WILLOW they could have kept her, I mean she wasn't that bad, right :( she goes back to her world and gets instantly killed by Oz, this is no fun I've had enough, I'm gonna kill Faith myself something's not right here though, it feels like Angel is pretending to be Angelus (when he was tying Buffy up, he looked at her in an almost sweet way...?) AND I WAS RIGHT!! they were working together, oh I like this, I wish we had seen more of this the fact that Buffy hadn't realised before that Joyce and Giles did in fact have sex 😬 oh sweet summer child what's in the booooox Willow is a better person than me because I would have been on that plane to Oxford dear Buffy, what Angel was trying to say is that he's going to have his own spin-off and that's why he's leaving you out of the blue I think the writers were not great with break-ups this season... you can tell they'd dropped the ball on Buffy and Angel completely even before this ep, because that's a lame ass excuse for a break up lol after the whole Angelus thing, no way the "I'm immortal, you're not" shtick is going to sound believable. Also, I vehemently disagree with Angel: I think I've seen enough of Buffy to say that she wouldn't be happy in a "normal" relationship with a "normal" human being. My girl is freaky! that's a very sweet thing Xander did... and this is how he and Cordelia can still get back together, in this essay I will- BUFFY IS GETTING AN AWARD???!!! MY BUFFY! 🥹 Giles putting on his proudest smile for her... that whole sequence had me in tears Angel showed up... stupid 243 old boy, go and make Buffy happy even if only for one night. I need Buffy to have just one moment of happiness Buffy beating Faith to a pulp can be so personal (I'm sure she'll recover, come on) Angel feeding from Buffy!! Yeah boiii aaand he's back to tortured guy Xander leading the Battle of Blackwater let's fucking gooo why is it that every scene with Buffy and Giles this season was manufactured to make me cry RIP Snyder....... teach the Hellmouth how to bully teenagers submitted by /u/danie_iero to r/buffy [link] [comments]

“Euro Summer” outfit
My step-daughter is having her engagement party in August and the invitation asked us to wear our European summer themed outfits (they got engaged in Italy). I am not a big shopper and don’t know where to start. Can anyone recommend stores? Preferably not online because I hate returning things. I am in the GTA in Ontario, Canada. I have looked online at Zara and Anthropologie but not seeing anything. I need to wear a bra or have something with a bra built in or something that is structured. I also am not 100% sure what European summer means either. Help!! submitted by /u/Signal-Associate-476 to r/Midsizefashion [link] [comments]

Why don't German people wear a tie during graduation ceremony?
I recently graduated with a master's degree and had a graduation ceremony. During the ceremony, I was among a very few people who wore a tie to the event. It was more than 300 people in the event and we were all called on stage so I could check out everyone's outfit. I think only 7 of us were wearing a tie and I guess 4 were from Indian Subcontinent including me and other were also having an immigrant background. I saw 0 native Germans(Judging by their last names) wearing a tie to the event. Everyone was dressed in formal but just without the tie. I also saw previous year photos of the ceremony and all the German's were not wearing a tie. I don't think it's a European thing since in Wimbledon and Summer Test Cricket matches in England/Great Britain, almost everyone is wearing a tie when dressed in formal clothing. Is this a cultural thing or is it reserved for something more special like marriage? submitted by /u/unclebogdan10 to r/germany [link] [comments]

European starling changing his outfit
This handsome fellow seems to be a European starling in his winter polka dot outfit, but with a beak that is already shifting back to summer yellow - except the tip that is still back! He and his pals were hanging out with the grackles on the lawn today. First time seeing these so I'm not 100% sure on the ID, but it seems to match! submitted by /u/Miss_Jubilee to r/birding [link] [comments]

I Spent $1650 on Four Summer Walk Style Loafers and Here is What I Learned
Left to right: Loro Piana, Scarosso, Oliver Cabell, Charles Tyrwhitt I've been wanting these loafers for the longest time but held off partially because of the price and partially because more relaxed fit bottoms have been heavy in my rotation. Now, with "quiet-luxury" and "old-money aesthetic" being all that anyone is talking about and recently inspired by everyone wearing these on a trip to France, I figured it was the perfect time to pick some up, taking advantage of cheaper European retail prices while overseas. I didn't realize how hard they would be to get and ended up visiting 7 different stores until I finally found one that had them in stock on the last day of my trip. It may seem counterintuitive to feature these as the weather starts to cool down but that's typically the best time to score some deals on these. Video: As always, all the info you need is in this post but this is one of my best videos to date. I think it's worth the watch if you want more angles, outfit ideas, and to see the various loafers on feet. Hopefully you guys enjoy this write up just as much as the Sneakers, Suits, Cashmere Sweaters, Joggers, T-Shirt, Hoodies, and Polo ones I did a while back. Charles Tyrwhitt Slip On ($129): The Charles Trywhitt Slip On Loafers come in at $129 but they can be had much cheaper since Charles Trywhitt’s is always running promos. I was able to snag these for 20% off and free shipping so it’s definitely worth your time to ask for a code. Design Getting into the design, the Charles Thywritt loafers are chunkiest of the bunch and in turn more more structured. They feature a 100% pure European suede upper and are shown here in light grey colorway but also offered in a tan and royal blue. The soles are a stark opaque white compared to the the translucent off white color featured on the rest. The upper suede panel seems to be rolled over and then stitched to the bottom panel giving it a moccasin like look with a thicker roping compared to the rest of the loafers. It gives it the illusion of the upper being slight recessed compared to the rest of the shoes. The inner is fully lined in leather. It looks like a proper fusion of the classic american boat shoe and summer walk style loafer. Fit You typically want these style of loafers to fit slightly tight out of the box. Since most of these made from thin suede, they’re expected to stretch and mold to your feet as you rack up some miles. If they’re loose, or just right out of the box, they could be unwearable after they stretch and eat up the back of your heel if you’re planning on wearing these sockless as most people do. I’m typically a 9.5 or a EU 42 so opted for a size 9 since Charles Thywritt only makes them in full sizes. Out of the box, these were fairly loose with the left pair being looser than the right. The leather on these is thicker than the rest of the shoes here so I would assume they wouldn’t stretch as much but I’ll have to report back in the comments after a few more months of wear. Comfort wise, this stye of loafer are pretty comfortable by default so I’m definitely being picky here. With the shoe being a bit loose, I was expecting them to rub up on the back of the heels a lot and cause blisters but I was pleasantly surprised that this wasn’t the case. The sides of the shoe are the firmest of the batch so they may take slightly longer to break in. The inner sole is relatively plush which add to the level of comfort. Construction Construction wise they’re pretty solid especially for the price. They’re made in Portugal and are cemented together which means that the upper is glued to the soles. No fancy welting here but that’s to be expected with majority of these rubber soled shoes. The soles themselves are on the firmer end which makes sense since they are the heaviest shoes here. The upper is hand sewn and the inner sole is made from a combination of textile and leather. Thoughts: Overall, I think if you have wider feet, don’t mind the slightly chunkier look, and want to dip your feet into the old money trend, these are a great option especially for the price. Personally speaking, these aren’t my favorite pair solely due to the design, the toe box is not tapered and they don’t look as sleek as the others. This limits the versatility quite a bit and makes them look sloppier than the rest on feet. Growing up, my dad wore house slippers that looked awfully similar to these so I just can’t get that image out of my mind when I wear these out lol Oliver Cabell Ellis ($179): Originally, I wasn’t going to include these since I didn’t even know they existed but while I was doing some research for this video, these came up and looked promising at $179. These are mostly sold out for this season but should restock prior to next summer according to Oliver Cabell if you choose to pick them up. They normally have a promo code for $20 off for signing up for the newsletter so that should make these a bit more competitive. Design The design of these follow a more traditional route compared to the lines of Charles Thywritt. It features a very low cut silhouette with streamlined panels. Branding is limited to the inner sole and a blank fabric tab on each shoe. The overall shape of this shoe is wider, rounder, less tapered in the toe box compared to the likes of Scarosso and Loro Piana. While this may be a great thing for people with wider feet, it does take away from the aesthetic slightly. The suede is full-grain leather sourced from Italy and is finer and much less shaggy than the Charles Thywritt. The loafers are available in three colors, a chocolate as seen here, chestnut, and slate grey. Fit Getting into the fit, I went true to size with a size 42 and they fit like a glove out of the box. They have stretched a bit since then but in all the right ways to help these feel even more comfortable. There’s no heel slippage when walking and I’m sure the thinner less structured sides helped with the almost non-existent break in period for these loafers. Construction Construction wise, these are also cemented. The soles are more traditional for these types of shoes featuring a soft, italian made rubber outsole that are translucent but a bit cooler in color compared to the Scarosso and the Loro Piana. The shoes are made in Portugal and the overall the finishing is good. The inner is lined in Italian calfskin leather and the footbed is made from foam. They’re the second heaviest ones here. Thoughts: These are definitely a better entry level option compared to the Charles Tywritt, especially if you can grab them around the $150-160 mark. Aesthetically they’re significantly nicer than those and you’re getting great quality for the price. The chocolate color is very versatile and I find myself reaching for these more and more. Personally speaking, I'm very picky about the shape and silhouette for my "nicer/dressier" shoes so the rounder toe box was not something I was a fan of but if you don't mind them, these are a great value for what you're getting. Scarosso Ludovico ($340): The $300-400 price point is where your options really open up. I considered Scarosso, Aurelien, and Suit Supply for this price point. After handling the Aurelien loafers in-store, I found the texture and quality of the suede subpar. There were quite a few negative reviews of the brands customer service, so I decided against including them here. I actually liked the Suit Supply ones—they're practically dupes of the Loro Piana's in terms of design. However, the suede wasn't as soft and buttery, and they offer limited color options. Ultimately, I decided to try Scarosso for some variety. Scarosso is a quintessentially Italian brand, with all their shoes crafted in Italy using Italian materials. They're an "if you know, you know" brand—flying under the radar for the most part, yet frequently gracing red carpets and magazine covers once you start noticing. These are the Scarosso Ludavico in navy blue suede. These loafers retail for $340, though I've spotted them about $100 cheaper on online retailers like Cettire from time to time. Scarosso occasionally offers a 10% discount for email sign-ups, so it's worth checking their website before purchasing. Design The typical Italian design is evident in the Ludovicos. They feature a narrow shape overall and an aggressively tapered toe box, making them look effortlessly elegant and versatile. The silhouette most closely resembles Loro Piana's among all the options here. There's no external branding. I chose the navy blue color, which pairs well with lighter denim, but Scarosso offers 16 different colors ranging from neutrals to brighter, fun options. The suede looks and feels high-quality—even finer than Oliver Cabell's and with a softer, more buttery feel than the two previous pairs. The soles are similar in color to Loro Piana's and have a cool, grippy design. However, they lack the spot on the heel for writing your name that the others had. Fit I went true to size with these, opting for a size 42, which fit slightly tight—just as I wanted. While there isn't much heel slippage, the backs of my heels did get a bit irritated when I first wore them for an extended period. I suspect it's because the inner beige suede patch sits slightly higher than the navy suede outer, causing heel chafing. The other shoes are level throughout, which prevents this issue. Construction Construction-wise, there's limited information on the suede and sole origins, so I can't provide many details. When I reached out to Scarosso, they simply stated that the shoes are handmade entirely in Italy using "the finest and highest quality suede and rubber available". The loafers are fully lined inside, making them more structured than the Oliver Cabells but less so than the Charles Thrywitts. They retain their shape exceptionally well compared to the rest but are also the lightest of the bunch. Thoughts: I know $340 is still really pricey for these loafers, but they get you a well constructed Italian made shoe with 95% of the Loro Piana look, feel and vibe at almost a third less. The shape of the shoe is exactly what I look for in a loafer. Loro Piana Summer Walks ($980): The billionaires shoe aka THE Summer Walks. Loro Piana first introduced their iconic loafers in 2005 but they didn’t gain popularity until 2019 when they started marketing them as “quiet luxury”. It was once a shoe you could easily walk into a store and pick up on any given day, that’s no longer the case. These sell for over $1000 in the US after taxes, but I paid about $800 after the lower retail price in Europe and the VAT back. Design Ironically, these european classics were inspired by the american boat shoe. Imagine those Sperry boat shoes you probably owned in the early 2000s had a more posh and snooty cousin: the Summer Walks are those. They’re more refined than a sneaker but not quite a dress shoe. As all things Loro Piana makes, these are sleek with a minimalist design, but unlike all the other shoes we discussed, they feature a LP monogram on the heel. It’s subtle but quiet luxury aside at price I want people to know what brand I’m wearing haha They’re the narrowest of the four pairs, but by far the most comfortable and breathable because they’re made in Italy from 100% suede and completely unlined. This allows the shoe to mold to your feet as soon as you slip them on, kind of like a sock. It has a strong taper which gives the illusion of narrow feet without suffocating your feet. The toe isn’t too round or too pointy, I’d say it’s the perfect almond shape. I went for the light wood smoke color so that I could easily dress them up or down, but I don’t think you could go wrong with any of the colors Loro Piana offers. Their website currently has 21 colors listed, all within the realm of netruals and earthy tones making them extremely versatile. Fit Getting into the fit, I opted for my usual size 42 and I think that was the perfect choice. Every single Loro Piana sales associate I talked to said I could only truly know my size when I tried them on because they’re so unique, and the sizing also differs depending on what material your summer walks are made of. In addition to the classic suede, they offer linen, calfskin, deerskin, elk leather, and alligator leather to name a few. Right out of the box, these feel a little snug on the feel but have since loosened up with wear. Since they’re unlined, they’re going to stretch a lot more than the others; however after a lot of wear, they still hug the feet well and don’t cause any heel slippage while walking. They’re also the most comfortable pair due to their design and don’t feel heavy at all on the feet, which is expected since they’re the second lightest ones here. Construction Regarding the construction, they’re not much different then Oliver Cabell’s or Scarosso. They’re cemented together which isn’t surprising considering this is common practice with rubber soles loafers like these, but it’s just something to note that the construction doesn’t change dependent on the price. Loro Piana does materials well and this is no excepetion. This is by far the softest, most buttery suede I've ever felt — even more so than the suede on jackets and my wife's handbags. The suede comes with a treatment that makes them slightly waterproof and stain resistant, but nothing major that would protect your shoes from a ton of water. At this price, I don’t want to risk anything so I still gave them a good spray with that waterproofer I mentioned earlier. Created selfishly for the Loro Piana brothers’ passion for sailing, the white sole is made from gum rubber from rubber trees, carefully chosen to leave no scuffs on yacht decks. This obviously make them less durable then leather soles, but considering these shoes were made to lounge on beaches and boats, it makes sense. However, many people have reported that the soles will yellow over time and the suede can lose it’s shape giving these loafers a few year lifespan which is disappointing. Beige and brown-ish colors will obviously last a little longer because the yellow sole won’t be as stark of a contrast. The bright side to this is that although there have been reports of the soles yellowing over time, it is possible to get them replaced, which could get you a few more years of wear. A local cobbler should be able to handle this no problem. Thoughts Overall, as with most things with Loro Piana, quality and material are going to be among the best in the world which should be expected. However, it comes with an eye watering price tag. Yes they're expensive but thats on purpose. Loro Piana wants these to be exclusive and not easily accessible. It’s why they’ve increased the price of these gradually over the years with no improvement to the shoe itself. I do have to say though, these are the most comfortable of the four I mentioned and their sleek design makes them elevate any outfit you throw them on. TLDR: Best Overall (Not weighing price into account): Loro Piana Scarosso Oliver Cabell Charles Trywhitt Best Value for Money: Scarosso Oliver Cabell Loro Piana Charles Trywhitt Regarding the "these aren't frugal" comments that always come: I look at this from a cost per wear perspective so if something costs more but lasts longer and looks a lot better doing so, I'd rather save up for that than go with the more disposable option. https://imgur.com/a/qQxDUY4 submitted by /u/Aventador_22 to r/frugalmalefashion [link] [comments]

AITA for telling my friend we ARE tourists and we shouldn’t act like we’re not?
Throwaway for privacy. I’m 21F. As a post-graduation trip, me and my friends are going on a trip to France next summer. This is my first time going to Europe so I’m really excited, and we’re currently in the planning stage. This issue concerns one of my friends, Katie (also 21F). Katie has never been out of the country, and somehow she’s gotten it in her head that the worst thing someone can be in another country is a tourist. I think she’s read too many articles and watched too many tiktoks about how Europeans hate American tourists. Anyways, she’s now trying to change our trip to be as un-touristy as possible. For example, she’s sent the rest of the group pictures of French street fashion and is insisting that we can only pack outfits that look like it. When one person said she didn’t have clothes that looked like that, Katie just said “guess you’ll need to go shopping.” She also says that Europeans do not wear sneakers and will immediately label us as tourists if we’re seen wearing them, so we can’t bring them (even though we’ll be walking a lot). Additionally, when I tried to suggest places for us to visit (Eiffel Tower, Louvre, Versailles, etc), Katie immediately shot them down and said that those are too “touristy” and we should try and find other places to go. When I asked her what kinds of places, she pulled up some French residential neighborhoods and local shops and said we would be better off spending our time there since it’s more “authentic.” To be clear, she’s not concerned about avoiding pickpockets since we’ve already purchased pickpocket-proof pouches. It’s JUST about “looking like tourists.” In my view, there’s nothing wrong with being a tourist and doing touristy things as long as we’re respectful of the locals and French culture. Besides, if I’m only getting a limited time in France, I don’t want to be spending it all just walking around random people’s houses and looking at them like they’re zoo animals. I told this to Katie and she got upset and said I was the reason why Europeans hate tourists so much. I told her we ARE tourists, why try to hide it? I’m pretty sure French people would be MORE annoyed if we tried to act like locals instead of just being respectful visitors. Katie got even more upset and said that if I want to be disrespectful of French culture so bad, I can go to France on my own time. She then left our planning session. The rest of our group is kind of split on this issue. Most of them agree with me and think it’s a waste of time to walk around residential neighborhoods instead of seeing the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre, but they also are very afraid of being perceived as annoying Americans. So I’d like to get some more perspectives on if I’m TA here. submitted by /u/Unfair-Iron-4177 to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

Summer Fashion Trends: A European Style Affair
As the sun graces the skies and temperatures begin to rise, it's time to shed the layers and embrace the vibrant energy of summer. Across Europe, from the cobbled streets of Paris to the coastal towns of Italy, a tapestry of fashion trends emerges, reflecting the essence of the season. Let's delve into the sartorial delights that define summer fashion in Europe for the year ahead. **Effortless Elegance of Linen**: In the scorching heat of summer, lightweight and breathable fabrics reign supreme. Enter linen, the epitome of effortless elegance. From tailored suits to flowing dresses, linen exudes a relaxed sophistication that effortlessly transitions from day to night. In Europe, expect to see an abundance of linen ensembles in soft, muted tones, embodying the laid-back yet refined aesthetic synonymous with summer on the continent. **Romantic Ruffles and Feminine Florals**: Summer in Europe is a time for romance and whimsy, reflected in the prevalence of ruffles and floral prints. Whether adorning a billowy blouse or a flirty sundress, ruffles add a touch of playfulness and movement to summer silhouettes. Meanwhile, floral motifs evoke the beauty of blooming gardens, infusing garments with a sense of femininity and grace. Expect to see an array of floral prints in vibrant hues, from dainty daisies to bold botanicals, as Europe embraces the spirit of summer in full bloom. **Chic and Sustainable: Ethical Fashion Takes Center Stage**: With sustainability increasingly in focus, European fashionistas are turning to eco-friendly and ethically sourced clothing options. From organic cotton to recycled materials, sustainable fashion is not only a nod to environmental consciousness but also a celebration of style with a conscience. Look out for brands that prioritize ethical production practices and embrace the beauty of sustainable fashion, proving that eco-consciousness and elegance go hand in hand. **Nautical Nuances and Riviera Glamour**: Along Europe's picturesque coastlines, nautical-inspired attire reigns supreme during the summer months. Crisp stripes, sailor collars, and maritime motifs evoke the timeless charm of seaside living, channeling the elegance of Riviera glamour. Whether strolling along the promenade or lounging on a yacht, embrace the maritime aesthetic with classic navy and white ensembles, capturing the essence of summer by the sea. **Accessorize with Statement Sunglasses and Straw Hats**: No summer ensemble is complete without the perfect accessories to shield from the sun in style. In Europe, oversized sunglasses with bold frames are a must-have, adding a touch of glamour to any outfit while providing essential UV protection. Meanwhile, straw hats lend a chic and laid-back vibe, evoking images of leisurely days spent under the Mediterranean sun. From wide-brimmed boaters to floppy sun hats, embrace the art of accessorizing with statement headwear that exudes summer sophistication. Summer fashion in Europe could be a celebration of style, embracing a harmonious blend of elegance, romance, and sustainability. From the timeless allure of linen to the breezy charm of nautical motifs, each trend captures the essence of the season, inviting us to embrace the joys of summer in sartorial splendor. So, as the sun sets on another European summer, let your wardrobe reflect the beauty and vitality of the season, ensuring that style knows no bounds in the warm embrace of summertime in Europe. Football Fan ---> Swiftie Man Part 6: One Minute Past Midnight
Part 0 Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Tomorrow makes one week since I made my bet. And here we are, finishing the discography of one of the more prolific superstars of our generation. I don't know the actual numbers on where she stacks up in terms of published content for a multiplatinum artist, but I can say from personal experience that this woman has A LOT of songs. I've learned so much about a person who only days ago was just a one-dimensional caricature of vapid teen girls in my mind. Now I'm fascinated by her creative depth and enchanted by her wild smile. She's written some things that struck me in places I don't let people strike me. Yes, some of these songs have been a swift kick to the balls and I'm not sure I could have anticipated that. But I'm getting too mired in the moment here. It's hard to believe that after this post, I'll be done! ....you didn't actually believe that, did you? I'll see you tomorrow. This week-long series was always driving towards a Part 7 with all of you in the passenger's seat. Let's get started. Midnights (2022) Lavender Haze Oh, are we out of the indie folk phase? That's ok, it was nice that we got two albums of it. I wonder what she means that the haze is creeping up on her. I looked it up to make sure she was still with Joe here. Post-wiki: She certainly was with Joe, and had posted a video about how he inspired her to write this song. She has now taken it down. Oof. I don't know if I think Lavender Haze works for me as a way to describe the honeymoon phase of a new relationship, but I'm not a multi-platinum recording artist! All I could think about was that Lavender Haze is what happens when it's really humid, right before a Purple Rain. Music video: We're in our Windows 98 era now, people. What do I mean by that? Something about the art style of the clouds, the age of the TV, the smoke everywhere, the tambor of the music, Taylor in the purple water, the set dressing/apparel, and the general psychedelic nature of the video takes me straight to learning how to type on a clicky beige keyboard in a library computer center. I get that you could also read this as 50s but this is MY review, and I say that it's like an operating system and hardware set best known for looking like a nicotine stain. Maroon The rust that grew between telephones. I don't know what it means but it gets the people going. Is it bad to quote Kanye in a Taylor Swift review? We've got a color-saturated chorus here. Given that she has a whole album called Red, I'm sure there's plenty of color lore out there. Anti-Hero Oh, this is the I'm the problem song! Is she owning up to being an imperfect partner? That's refreshing, I know we've gotten pieces of it but to have a hit that focuses on it is, in my eyes, a sign of her being comfortable within herself. Lol, the idea of Taylor's daughter-in-law killing her for money is psychotic and pretty funny. The way she said everybody agrees was chilling. Post-wiki: "I just struggle with the idea of not feeling like a person." I think this is a statement that many people would identify with, especially those of us whose identities are built upon what value we generate for others. I'm a very insecure person, and the need for external validation drives my creativity. If I ever reached a point where just waking up in the morning was enough to draw effusive praise, that engine would break down and I'd lose my entire sense of self. I don't know if this is true for Taylor, but her art helped me talk about it, and for that I'm grateful. Anti-Hero is a great song for a lot of reasons, but this one is mine. Music video: I'm sorry but when she cut into that egg I wanted to punch my monitor. The concept here of Bad Taylor educating Good Taylor to pick up all these bad habits is great. I also like that her blood is purple and sparkly, it really fits the theme of the album. Beach house ---> Cat Sanctuary! This sketch is brilliant. Say what you will but I'd listen to Growing Up Swiftly. It has the Knives Out vibes. I like this song more after the video. I don't have time to talk about Giant Taylor right now. Snow on the Beach (feat. Lana Del Rey) Who is Lana Del Ray? She has a name that makes me envision an expensive restaurant where I probably can't get a table. I've seen snow on a beach, it is absolutely weird and beautiful. If this album is like snow on the beach, I'm going to be very happy with it. Oh we're still doing color, and I also just realized we're very clearly doing weather as well. If she gets in a car, we're going to need to scramble the jets. Post-wiki: Taylor is getting weirder. This is a good thing. Comparing two people simultaneously falling in love with snow on the beach is a stretch, and all I can say is keep stretching because you work best when you're limber. Cool that Taylor got to work with another musician that she loves! You’re on Your Own, Kid Sprinkler splashes --> fireplace ashes. I think I don't enjoy this song. It's a little bland, but I liked that line. If there was something meaningful here, I missed it. Apparently track 5s are important so I feel like I'm missing something. Post-wiki: I'm sorry, this is where the friendship bracelet thing comes from? It's this obscure and buried in a non-single? OK, I see that it's a track 5 and y'all do your thing or whatever but wow, Swifties are something else. Very cool. In BNL fandom, there's a tradition that when they sing If I Had A Million Dollars, when they say "we wouldn't have to eat kraft dinner" (mac and cheese), you through boxes of kraft mac and cheese onto the stage. This has led to a number of injuries. Moral of the story, don't throw things. Just generally. Also, no hitting. Midnight Rain Whatever this sound is, give me a whole bunch. These lyrics are dope. I broke his heart 'cause he was nice. You're awful. What an atmospheric jam. This album really has a specific vibe, huh? Question…? We've got some city pop creeping in here. Yes I know what that is. I've lived. I've seen pictures and videos in music videos of Taylor in Japan. I bet she likes the weird pop that came out of Japan in the 80s. I have been kissed in a crowded room and had people clap, and what I did after that was go and take the heaviest nap of my life because my new wife and I were EXHAUSTED. I did not, in fact, leave her house in the middle of the night. We were not property owners. There was a nugget in that chorus that ties back to the middle of the night theme of this album, I know I got distracted but I am in fact listening. Vigilante Shit This is not the first song about being a vigilante that I've heard from Taylor. I don't remember where the other one was. When someone says they're bumping some music, I picture something that sounds like this. Brrt. Bwumwum, chkchkchkchk. He was doing lines? That shit will explode your heart and we will not be able to help you. Dressing for revenge is some Kill Bill energy and I'm all about it. Bejeweled (Music Video) OK, so Swifties in the game thread say that Travis Kelce lets Taylor bejeweled. I FINALLY get it. She gets to go out and wear the stuff and be seen. Good for her. Good for them. I hope they work out, it would be a lot of fun to see her cheering him on for the rest of his career. He's going to retire in a year or two, so we wouldn't get a lot, but it would be fun while it lasted. This song is almost chiptune-y, which is an easy way to get me to like it. I'm a child of the SNES. This album has been pretty varied with it's sound, which I appreciate because I'm getting oversaturated with the standard Swiftian melody. At the same time, these songs seem a little shorter than usual which also helps. Music video: Yes, mommy. Having learned that Taylor directs her own music videos these days, I can tell her film will have a clear vision. A lot can go wrong in such a large project but I'm looking forward to her visual storytelling in a longer runtime. "Nice!" Those interjections in these songs, like "Go! Fight! Win!" Are my favorite thing about the whole discography and I have no idea why. It instantly makes a song one of my favorites. I like how she's integrating these mid-century aesthetics with the hyper modern synth sounds in the music. It's a surprisingly slick combo. Yeah, this music video was excellent. Labyrinth Ooh, I like a song that says oh no when she's falling in love. It gives it urgency and mystery. It helps that we've got some mystery music playing. We're in our Scooby Doo era, where's the lover in this Labyrinth. Sorry, that last joke went a little overboard. This track sounds a little like those songs from Big Red Mystery Machi---jinkies, I've got Scoob on the brain. Was that low voice hers, using a pitch changer? Karma Karma is my boyfriend, too, Taylor, and we're breaking up cuz clearly you vibe with him better. Well hold on now she's dating Spider-Man. Haha, I can't believe she wrote "aren't you envious that for you it's not?" To her point though, she got through a bullshit viral Anti-Taylor movement and came out the other side an even bigger mega-star, so go off girl. Karma is a relaxing thought for her, and that's gotta feel good. I'm convinced this song is about Kanye's downhill slide though, which has been kind of sad to watch at the human level. He's not well. Sweet Nothing The picture she's painting here is very pleasant. And the clavicle---what is that thing called? Hold on. Clavichord! This isn't a clavichord. It's some kind of keyboard synth instrument that made me feel like ice skating. I know music words but I use them wrong. You've read this far, you surely know that about me. Speaking of which, I love the rhythmatics of her vocalism here. It's something she does more often in these later albums and I find it really fun to listen to, fitting a lot of words into a small space. I feel like this song is about Joe and it makes me sad. It sounds like they were comfortable. Mastermind Oh my, we're going to space. Hey she said planets! Haha, well the intro sound got it across. C'mon Taylor, make it weird. I'm a rocket man, I can handle it. If Taylor told me she was a mastermind and that she captured me like a bug in a net, I'd ask her to humanize me a little more and suggest that maybe a relationship doesn't have to becomposed of a hunter and a hunted. I feel like she wrote a song about that, named after the guy who voices Bob's Burgers. The Great War This is about surviving a fight in a relationship. Yes, I know I've gotten quite good at plucking the meaning from these tunes. No other observations. Bigger Than the Whole Sky Atmospheric is the word of the album. Echoes of an acoustic guitar, played through a sepia-tone barn window. I like it. Do I love it? Maybe not, it's a little static, but at this point I'm convinced we're getting another 20 albums from this woman in the next 10 years so if she wants to do one that feels like this, I'm just gonna pay her the money. Paris This is a song written by Celebrity Taylor. Ooh la la, or something. I actually like when she plays at doing the celeb schtick. Did you see the photos? No, but thanks. Oh, so the story is about sitting in an alley drinking cheap champagne and pretending you're in Paris. Sometimes she likes to build a moment and then pull back the curtain and it's fun. High Infidelity Everybody say welcome back to the beeps and boops music. It's a fun way to layer a song, makes it feel light without sacrificing dimension. Ok, I'll bite. Where was she April 29th? I'm going to bet that this song is about Scarf Guy and she got stood up on April 29th at that party. It makes sense, she's saying he killed her by not loving her enough and now he regrets meeting her because she's written songs about him. Well, Scarf Guy, you signed that work order for your own damn self. What was he keeping count of? Glitch Blood moonlit glitch, she's clearly singing about Castlevania speedruns. 2,190 days since what? I'm not gonna be able to guess that one, unless it's also referring to April 29th. Man, I thought I'd get more out of this song but it played it safe. Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve People have mentioned this track to me in anticipation. Oh Christ, is this about Scarf Guy again? Grown man, encouraged developing a relationship but treated her like a paint splatter? She's 19, yeah this is Scarf Guy or John Mayer. Actually, I'm sure it's John Mayer cuz dancing with the devil fits much more. She had big feelings for the Scarf Guy, but this is just regretting being with a bad person, which is John Mayer. "Give me back my girlhood, it was mine first." :O That was a grenade of a lyric. And the next song is called Dear Reader instead of Dear John. I pick up what you're putting down, you clever, clever girl. Dear Reader I feel obligated to say that burning all your files is not only against the retention policy, but could land us in pretty deep water with regulatory authorities. When you aim at the devil, make sure you don't miss? Yeah I don't think you missed Taylor, that line about giving back your girlhood was an absolute strike. I can't believe we're dealing with this stuff all the way in 2022. Good that we are, but I'm surprised it wasn't in Lover. Maybe it just wasn't time yet. Hits Different OK, I hate to admit it but the visual of leaving a club and throwing up on the street takes me back to College a little bit, and it indeed hits different nowadays. Hey, asshole outlaw! I saw that in the 'say two words, guess the song' thread the other day. If I was aiming to write a thesis about all this, I'd line up her outlaw references and her vigilante references and draw some conclusions between any shared context or meaning in the songs. That's free analysis bait for anybody that wants it. Antithetical dream girl gives Alternative Girlfriend vibes and I'm here for it. Snow on the Beach (feat. More Lana Del Rey) I can get behind a pluckier version of Snow on the Beach, sure! Lana Del Ray searching "aurora borealis green" like a mid-40s power mom picking out paint samples for the she-shed vision board. You deserve your own dedicated space, queen. What does it mean to be for someone like Janet? Karma (feat. Ice Spice)) Grah! That's the sound I make when I go to drink something but there's spice on the ice. Who put fucking cardamom on top of my damn julep. I think this song is the most 'painting fingernails emoji' song on the album. Is she saying she's draggin that wagon because she has an XL booty? Music video: GRAH. Mary Tyler Moore. That's who reincarnated as Taylor Swift. Yes, I know MTM only died a few years ago. Still, though. If Taylor 'retires' from her release schedule in the future, she'd be a slam dunk for a once weekly night show. I have no idea what I'm talking about, by the way. Whoever this lady is from the music video hanging out with Taylor has the wagon! You’re Losing Me The vocal effects here are glitzy. Feels like Lover. "I know my pain is such an imposition." That feels. Hmm, there was another song where Taylor sang about how a guy was losing her. Final Thoughts on Midnights: I like the sound. It isn't going to make my top 3 for her albums, but that doesn't mean it's bad. I almost feel like this one should be a vacation album. I could imagine myself in an alternate future, listening to this while waiting for traffic to clear in some history-rich middle-European city, as I head to a spot I've heard about that has the good bread. Do other people come up with dumb fantasies like this? Sometimes I feel like I have an illness. Favorite songs were Karma, Bejeweled, Question, and antihero. I feel bad putting the hits on here but they were what I liked. Non-Album Songs The Alcott (The National feat. Taylor Swift) Barn me, music video. Thank you, I'm ready to start now. The lead singer of The National has resting muppet face and it makes me want to hug him. Look it up, I'll be over here sharpening my next confusingly accurate pseudo-complement. Man, I love this song. I hope people like it. "Read my sentence out loud, cuz I love this curse on our house." Can Taylor write my eulogy? I have terminal vibe poisoning and it feels like a warm blanket choking me out, slowly, gently. Anti-Hero (feat. Bleachers) The intended head bob frequency is actually double the BPM. Give that a try, but sit down because I got dizzy when I did it. Man, that line about a famous baby and 90s guilt is just a string of hyper-meaningful nonsense. I don't know how it echoes through my millennial soul, but it sure does. Hey there's some saxophone! They snuck it in like a clever metaphor into a music review. Three Sad Virgins Please Don't Destroy is a cool name. Hey, isn't that Pete Davidson? How does he always look like he just woke up after passing out in the gutter? He looks like he smells like used chap stick. Oh fuck, Ben's dea--oh no actually he's fine. One question, where's Taylor? Oh, there she is, lol. What if I told you this whole bit would've been better if you just had Taylor do Pete Davidson's part? Speak Now (Taylor's Version) IDK you guys, a careless man's careful daughter? Did you see how she drove that lambo in the rep music video? She wasn't even looking at the road, like, at all. "Alex, this is Teen Taylor, she doesn't even have a license yet." Well, we need to make sure she respects her learner's permit because once she graduates from passenger to driver, shit could go sideways. One of the benefits of doing the Taylor's Versions separately is that I get to experience the album for a second time within the confines of the experiment, and after having listened to her full narrative arc up to the current release. Knowing what I know today, this album is absolutely freckled with lore seeds, just waiting to be sprinkled with life water and tucked into some time soil. Country Taylor is also a lot easier to vibe with now that I know it's not all she's got. Actually, that's a bigger point than I made it out to be. The fact she's hopped through four distinct genres now (at minimum) completely changes how I listen to this: "Here she is, Taylor with the cowboy hat on, boy isn't she just cute as a button? Did you see her rhinestone cowboy boots? Did you see her curly hair?" Yeah, I did! And I'm having fun with this Taylor. And later, I'm going to have fun with this other Taylor, you should come see her, too. Electric Touch (feat. Fall Out Boy) Eyes emoji? Is this alt rock? Well, not exactly. She flirted with it but it still sounds like Speak Now. That's the point, I know, it's a vault track on this album. But to have Fall Out Boy lean into her sound, instead of her lean into theirs, is a waste. Hey, at least the chorus gets going a little. It is kind of funny listening to Pete Wentz sing some very Taylor lyrics. Can I request a Bullet for my Valentine collab at some point? When Emma Falls in Love I have a niece named Emma. She's eleven. I think. I wonder if she's enchanted by Taylor Swift music. This song is cute and carries that classic sound from this era. "If Cleopatra grew up in a small town." I almost wanted to tease about the smaller population sizes in ancient times, but did you know AT LEAST 400,000 people lived in Alexandria when Cleopatra was alive? Bonkers. The mouth of the river Nile is a hell of a drug. Good song, good contept, not anything exciting though. Next! I Can See You I just said the last song wasn't exciting, but this one might be. It's trying some things that sound unique. Minor key maybe? I'm not good at diagnosing that. Would it be weird to say this sounds like rep, but played through Speak Now equipment? Yeah actually I'm standing by it. This song has the rep voice and attitude, but the instrumentation of Speak Now! This is great! The bridge borrows melodies from You Belong With Me and Love Story almost verbatim, which is sneaky. I can hear the melody of "he's cheer captain and I'm on the bleachers" and also "the one you're looking for has been here the whole time," with startling clarity. Music video: Is this Mission Impossible or Mr. Robot? I feel like I recognize these women but I couldn't tell you who they are. OK hold up I recognize that werewolf! How cool that they are on good terms. Are they stealing her album art? HAH. I'm going to be selfish and root for Taylor to have a fight scene in her movie whenever it happens. She's had some great ones in music videos. Castles Crumbling (feat. Hayley Williams) Castles crumbling is a phrase we've heard probably four or five times from Ms. Taylor Swift. I'm not about to break down what she means by it at large, but I'll take a quick stab at it - castles are a romantic, fantastical structure that fit her whimsical imagination at this age. They're a perceived sturdy thing, so when they're crumbling it can be very frightening and make you question yourself. Also, in real life, castles are constantly trying to fall down. The reason they're so expensive is because upkeep is unbelievably burdensome. Foolish One This song is friends with tolerate it and other songs about Taylor, or her character, being in love with someone who just...doesn't care. Does anyone else think about how Taylor either 1. gets shot or stabbed, or 2. is preparing to get shot or stabbed in a lot of songs? Not a majority of them anyway, but I'd guess it happens in as much as 7% of her songs, which at this volume is quite a lot. As standard as this song is, it's still kind of catchy. Timeless We're going hard into the story right away, this is a great sign. Taylor's describing herself finding some antique photos of a couple, and seeing herself and her lover in them. This is very on brand for our girl, especially in this era. She sees something romantic and imagines what it would be like for her. Instead of stopping there though, we're continuing the story, broadening the scope. Now we're on to a romance book. Once upon a time, these two concepts would be two separate songs. But now Taylor's stacking blocks higher. If you were looking for it, this is it in my opinion - her best country song. 1989 (Taylor's Version) This is it. We've reached the most recent release. I can't believe this came out right before I started this process. I've been excited about this one the whole time because it's the album art I've been seeing since the start. My wife and I remarked that Taylor's hair never looks like anybody did anything to it, and how it lets her stay looking like a normal, relatable girl still. That was true in the eras movie, and it's true on this album cover. She lets her hair be messy and I appreciate it. If I remember correctly, there was even a whole thing about how Voldemort tried to get her to straighten her hair, and while she's definitely altered her hair in interesting ways for certain projects, it feels like her normal hair is kind of a statement. IDK, you tell me. So I thought Welcome To New York was a slightly-less-boring sitcom opening credits song before. I like it a little better on the second pass. It still has no complexity to it but it's exciting. Blank Space is that song that I always forget about and then when I hear it I'm like, oh yeah this one is really good. It's one that's starting to sound like rep, but still has the bright sound of pre-rep. Call me crazy but I think if she put Blank Space (remix) on reputation (Taylor's Version) as a vault track, with a facelift and maybe an extra bridge, it would do numbers. Alright, alright. I'm starting to think 1989 was already heading toward the reputation sound before all the stuff happened. Style also has that city grime synth and the more dangerous smile that her rep songs have, she just hasn't followed it to the conclusion yet. This relisten has me thinking that 1989 is one of my top 3 albums. Oh crap, yeah it is. I love the music, I love what she's doing with the smokier voice, I love the stories she's telling. I'm looking down this tracklist and thinking, yep yep yep that one's a winner, that one, that one, ooh definitely that one...This is the album where I don't get to a track and think, nah I'd skip this one if it was allowed. There's something really special about realizing these things in real time with you, by pushing them through my keyboard. It's different than listening with someone next to you. It's like writing letters. It lets me feel what I'm feeling, then feel the excitement and anticipation of seeing your reaction later on. What a fun accident this whole thing ended up being. Kismet. I have a spotify account that acts like a mausoleum for my old music, and I've added 1989 TV, Folklore, Evermore, Lover, and reputation to it. That's my Mount Rushmore for this adventure. You'll have to wait for the final ranking order for the albums. And the tracks. And the lyrics. MY EX MAN BROUGHT HIS NEW GIRLFRIEND-- Apple Music was throwing a fit so I switched to the lyric video for I Wish You Would. If you haven't seen it, and you're a car lore-ist, go check it out. Man, I haven't been meh about a single song on this album. “Slut!” I've been looking forward to this song because I've seen promo art or something for it, and I was like, I be that'll be a fun song. Turns out, it's more of a mellow thinker of a track instead of a song to dance to. She's saying that even if it makes the media slander her, she thinks it's worth it for the guy. And if she's going to be drunk to deal with all the noise of the world, she might as well do it while in love. Sad. Cool. Say Don’t Go These vault tracks have been methodical so far. I probably shouldn't be expecting an anthem or anything upbeat. The back half of this album is more reserved to begin with. Well, it picked up! My mistake. Trust is hard. Now That We Don’t Talk This album is better than all of the other ones. Have you heard this song? Have you heard this album? She just can't MISS. Suburban Legends I'm a suburban legend too. Look: My friends all have cool nicknames - they call me on a landline they all want to chase their fame I just want to hang your picture frames I don't want to fan their flames - the burbs are where I choose spend my time, with you I'm embarrassed to post that but it's what came into my head while I was listening to it so I'm obligated. Roasts go down below. Did she just say tick tock on the clock?? "I broke my own heart because you were too polite to do it" yeah alright I'll leave the songwriting to her I think. Is It Over Now? Red blood, white snow, blue dress on a boat. Color lore crumbs are gonna have to stay lying there, I just don't have the energy to collect and connect them. Man, these vault tracks are totally processing how she feels about hiding from the media while the people she sang about don't, and the toll it's taking on her mental health. And they're all bangers. Bad Blood (feat. Kendrick Lamar) I hear that Kendrick Lamar is very important and good, but when Bad Blood started and he started going "UHH! UHH!" I wigged out a little bit. His verse was good, and the new bass line for this chorus is adding a really cool dimension. STOP GOING UHH! He's good with his word economy, a lot of what he wrote carried meaning without wasting anything. That's kind of the opposite of my thing. I build meaning by tripling the recipe and then adding extra spice to balance it, back and forth until it the last bite tastes right. Amateur cook vs professional chef I think. Non-album songs: Sweeter Than Fiction Taylor looks think as hell on this album art, but I love her outfit. Your eyes wider than distance? What in the world do you mean? Is she describing Anya Taylor-Joy? HAHAHA oof that was mean. She's very talented and beautiful. And you could park a double wide trailer between her eyes. SORRY. I haven't heard of the movie this is from, but the song is fine. It's a standard-issue Taylor piece. Well, folks, that brings us to the end of Taylor's discography. Did you read it all? Did you listen to any of it along with me, while I tried to ruin it for you? We heard a lot of stuff, and I said a lot of things. Taylor became something, then something else, than a third thing, and she just kept trying on new outfits. She looked good in pretty much every single one. I feel you panicking that I'm about to wrap up, but we have things to do so strap in one last time and let's review.... The Eras Tour Movie Film For Theaters Welcome to my blog you guys! Today I went to the M O V I E S. With my wife! As a teen, a few of my friends worked at the local movie theater so I would go almost every day. I'm talking five, six times a week. I'd see everything that was showing multiple times, even if it was total garbage. I'd hit matinees after school, pay for a single ticket, and hop theaters like a fucking delinquent, but nobody bothered me because I bought concessions between movies. They were getting their money. Don't feel sympathy for the Cinemark corporation, it's a bad look. I've done basically everything you can do in a movie theater, except for the things Lauren Boebert does. I've snuck in pizzas through the faulty emergency exit, enough for the small group of people watching Fury Road in nowhere Kansas at 3pm on a Tuesday, and left a tip for the teenagers who'd have to clean it up. I've done my homework by the light of a Nokia flip phone in the back row. I've danced in the aisles, held a girl's hand, held my wife's hand, laughed, cried, nearly peed my pants trying to hold it until the end, had a panic attack, tripped, fallen, laid down, and fallen asleep. Today, I paid $40 dollars to go to the scariest looking AMC I've ever pulled up to. We were the only ones in the theater. It was 4pm in rural Virginia, for a movie that was exiting theaters in two days, and it's what I wanted because I was going to be taking notes on my phone the whole time, so it worked out great. I haven't been in a theater since 2019 and if you told me that my return would be for a Taylor Swift concert film...honestly I'd believe you, I'll see anything. The trailers played for a couple pixar nothings, a follow-up to Mean Girls, a prequel for Willy Wonka, another Hunger Games thing, and some other event movie. Hollywood is truly alive with creative energy. This performance is at SoFi in L.A.! This stadium was a big deal when it was being built, they couldn't stop talking about it on football broadcasts. It delivered, the place is amazing and I hope to be there in person in a few years for the Olympics, one of the only things in life that I care more about than football or breathing. I'm going to hit my highlights and give you my overall impression: The opening of this set was so overwhelming that I'm not kidding that I didn't write down what the first song was and I don't remember anything about it. I was just experience the come-up of the sensory overload and being generally dazzled. I'm sure it was great. Cruel Summer was super fun, and I was reflecting on the outrageous story of Swifties collectively deciding it would hit #1 to give her the seven consecutive that she deserves. I know she pushed it forward with promo, but it would never have happened without this crazy mass of loving and devoted fans she's accumulated. It flowed into The Man, which was almost as fun. I really enjoyed watching her posture shift into the masculine character, and seeing her hang out on America's most professional looking fire escape. We ran straight into You Need to Calm Down, and I saw the dollhouse from one of her music videos appear on the enormous screens. Every time Taylor goes for a walk down the stage with a group behind her, it looks so badass. I also love that each dress she wears has a matching pouch for the mic box. I picture her crew pulling that box and plopping it into the next pouch as she has clothes running on and off of her. As a theater person, this was fun to think about. There's nothing quite like the energy of keeping a performance on track and the physical work that flies by. It's the same energy as a football game or playing a concert. I love game day. It was about at this point that I stopped taking notes. Sorry, the movie was good and I was bad. We'll see how my memory does for us. I think we'll be fine. I got the chance for the first time in my life to sing along with my wife to the hits from Fearless. It helped that there were no other people in there. I caught myself giving her commentary on the backgrounds for each song, telling her the things I learned from the wiki and the comments of my blurbs. I recalled the favorite lines I'd written to her, and she patiently reminded me each time that she had, in fact, read them. This commentary thing would run the entire 2.5 hours of the movie, and my wife deserves a mountain of credit for letting me tell her so many things. When Willow hit, I felt like someone had stolen my dog and dyed it key lime green. The witchy atmosphere, the sheer October of it, was breathtaking. It also helps that Willow is an absolute gem. Marjorie followed it, and right before it began they showed a close up of Taylor. I'm going to assume it was sweat, but she had a single bead of something running down her cheek. I'm sure it wasn't a tear, there's no way she wouldn't stop to compose herself if it were. I don't know if her grandmother is still alive. A lot of time was spent in the Evermore material, which is totally understandable given that it hadn't gotten a tour. I expected the same from Lover. I'd lie if I said I wasn't wondering if reputation would hit mid-show or close it. I figured she'd close with Midnights, and I was delighted when the lights dimmed on Evermore and the stage was overrun by that signature snake. It wasn't the same level of mind grenade as the rep movie, but the reputation era still delivered a hell of a set. I was saying things like, c'mon, do Don't Blame Me! Do Look What You Made Me Do! The only one I didn't get was This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things. My favorite thing was all the Taylors in boxes. Two of the performers had really interesting and fun interactions with her through the glass that made me laugh. This was also, I think, the portion where she stomped on the set to shatter it like glass. That was a very impressive bit of theater. I actually sang WANEGBT out loud. A little bit. It's not my anthem but my wife was really into it so I joined in and made her laugh. Worth it. All Too Well came on and my wife ran to the restroom. I told her that it was probably the best time, since this was a ten minute song. Her eyes almost bugged out of her head when she heard how long it was. She got back just in time for the cabin to appear on stage. The Folklore set was one of the best. Maybe I just love the aesthetic in general, but the cabin looked so good and the stories she told were so magnetic. Taylor was great at introducing the different songs. One of the things I've failed to talk about up to this point is just how happy she looked. I know she's doing her job with specific expressions and characters she's projecting out to the crowd, but those moments where you can tell she's just SO, HAPPY, to be touring again, it's so hard not to soften your heart towards her. What a girl. Folklore got what I think was the most screentime of the whole show, and while I appreciated it, I think I wanted a little more rep. Am I crazy or is Blank Space one of the better songs with one of the worse performances during the eras tour movie? It was really simple and kind of leaned on the music video, instead of doing something new. She did that for a couple songs but this one was worse for it while the others were better for it. I think I might've just wanted more from it than it gave. Shake it Off is such a slam dunk of a concert song. Everybody gets into it. Same with Bad Blood. My wife asked me if she'd be doing anything from her first album, and I told her she wouldn't leave it out Sure enough, she hit a few of those oldies and it left my wife feeling satisfied. As I expected, Midnights rounded us out. It's a unique mood that feels informed by, but never standing upon, her other stuff. Big Taylor destroyed some buildings. I thought of Travis Kelce letting her Bejeweled. The whole thing felt like it was coming to a close as she controlled her dancers' movements during Mastermind. I really like how much room she gives her dancers to play and have their personalities. They aren't faceless people, I felt like I was getting to know them throughout the show. She closed on Karma, a song I find totally captivating and also a little sad when I think about what happened to that guy. I left the theater with my miniature tour poster held carefully so that it could make it up on my office wall safely. Yes, it'll go into my office as a memory of this adventurous week. FINAL THOUGHTS I've spent all of my Saturday writing and relistening to the discography. Not everything, of course. I have my preferences now, and I wanted to use what time I have left to enjoy those. I'm going to post this without any final thoughts, it will feel more final to have for tomorrow. AITA for not wanting to "twin" all my outfits with my sister?
My (26F) sister (24) told us 5 months ago that she's trans (MtF). She got hugs and support from me and mum, dad was "shocked and disgusted", but came around when he saw how much happier his child is as a woman. We both had to move back into our childhood bedrooms within 2 months of each other last year (bad breakup & redundancy), it was actually kind of nice. Until Christmas. We always got perfume/cologne from mum. So this year she asked if Jess wanted specific perfume. Jess said she'd think about it. Later she asked what perfume I wore. I told her my favourites, let her try some. she gave mum a list of the perfumes she'd tried. only those. Fair enough, it's a bad time to touch the same tester bottles as everyone else. So you'd pick something you've tried. And same when she did it with my makeup. She wanted to buy my favourites, but okay, they're my favourites for a reason. less okay when she started borrowing my clothes. I wear a 12, but the few clothes she's bought have been 18-20. She's 5'10, I'm 5'2. So clothes fit differently. I said so when she took my jeans (without asking), came into the living room in tears because they're small. She called me an arse, that I was saying she's "manly" and "fat". She ripped the zipper when she took them off. They were £75 jeans, I yelled at her. Dad told us to stop arguing, we could each have £100 to buy new clothes, that i should show Jess where I like to buy stuff. Cool. Free money, new clothes. Jess said it would be fun to do thesame sites at the same time so it would feel more like a shopping trip. I went to the petite section. Thats what fits. "The whole point is that we use the same page. Go to regular stuff." Fine. I find a top I like, it has an option for a size that fits, I add it to the cart. Jess adds the same one, in her size. Item 2, same thing. I jokingly tell her she's allowed to pick what she likes... and she blows up again. Dad asks what all the shouting is about, Jess says that I don't really see her as a sister, that I'm disgusted at the thought of "wearing the same clothes as a tranny" (again, never thought that and would never call her that!), but I don't get a chance to speak before Dad tells me he's disappointed in me. this morning and she tells me she has a surprise. Not only has she ordered her stuff, she added my sizes to the order too. Oh, and a handful of stuff that I already own, in her size. And not "white t-shirt, dark jeans", she went on Ebay and found an Arctic Monkeys t-shirt I bought in 2013, where I did, and put 2 pins where I have 2 pins. She doesn't like Arctic Monkeys. "I just thought, it be great to be twins? You have such great style, it's a compliment." I told her we're not 10. A couple things sure, but not everything. Dad agrees with Jess, that I'm being petty.Mum says Dad feels bad about how he reacted when Jess came out, he's being unfair. AITA for wanting my own style? Edit 1: I'd misgendered her at the start of the post in an attempt to explain that she's come out recently. I've reworded that on advice that there are easier ways. It's all quite choppy because of word count. Also an IRL friend has suggested a clothes swap and already has 5 people who are up for it if Jess wants, including one who is her size and leaving the country soon, so she's happy to give her 90% of her wardrobe, without it being too impersonal (still a curated wardrobe in a similar style to me and Jess). I've had suggestions to do a "just for you" shopping day, where I add what I would want to her cart, but only in her size, and tell her exactly why I like it. She's out for a walk with my dad now, but I'll update again tonight or tomorrow with her thoughts. Thank you for all the insightful comments, including (and perhaps espexially) the YTA And NAH comments, its helped me find better ways to approach this with her. Edit 2: so there's been a lot this evening, pretty much all good. Dad and Jess were gone for ages, and spent that time having a long talk about everything. Lots of stuff that isn't mine to tell, but the general stuff is that Jess finally called him out for how awful he acted and he's finally apologised properly. While they were out my friend who's moving soon came by and dropped off two suitcases worth of mostly summer clothes she won't be able to wear before leaving. She promised there's even more and apologised for not having much that can be worn now, but she'll go through stuff in the next week and bring warmer things. Which is so sweet. She told us to wash it all before going through it, just in case (germs, plus it's all been in bins under her bed for over a year), but we waited till Jess got home so she could at least look at it briefly. She was SO EXCITED, it was honestly the cutest thing. Our washing machine is the standard tiny European thing that doubles as a dryer, so we couldn't do everything tonight, but we found the warmer looking stuff and a few tops Jess recognised from the friend wearing them, and that went in first. Dinner was still kind of quiet and awkward, just the thump of the washing machine and mum trying to make small talk every few minutes, but after dinner Jess asked if I still wanted my makeup done (she's got so good at doing Makeup, and offered to do mine for a Zoom date I'd scheduled). I told her I'd cancelled my plans because I really wasn't in the mood, and she suddenly looked so broken, like she realised just how upset this is all making me. She asked if it was her fault, and I told her it wasn't, that I'm stressed in general and this is just contributing (true, I have a stupid amount of work to do and my new boss enjoys impossible deadlines). I asked her if we could talk, and tried to explain why I don't want her to wear the exact same thing as me. She actually listened. Looked like she was going to interrupt to tell me why I'm wrong a couple times, but didn't. She apologised for ruining my clothes order and my jeans, and told me she'd pay for it when she can. I suggested we put that money toward the personal shopper idea instead, and explained that idea, along with the clothes swap with the other girls, and subscription boxes a few other people mentioned. She didn't like the idea of an in person swap too much, and admitted that she feels like our friends are just being polite but don't want to be around her anymore. She says they've done absolutely nothing to suggest that, but because she hasn't been able to see half of them in person since coming out, it feels like a personal snub, no matter how irrational. Some more talking later, that's been somewhat resolved by asking the girls if they wanted to do weekly zoom hangouts that eventually turn into in person stuff every week. Not everyone's responded yet, but it generally seems to be posite answers or "my schedule is hectic but ill try to make it most of the time", which I've reminded Jess is normal, if anything they're more committed to this than past plans. When the conversation kind of naturally ended she said she was exhausted and wanted to nap, but I told her it was too late for that (it was like 8, she can't get to sleep if she naps after 5), and suggested we watch a movie until her clothes were dry. So we did that, then she tried on the clothes, and almost all of it actually fits really well! Some of it is too big or small, and a few things were hilariously dated (turns out our friend is a bit of a hoarder. We found some of those weird skirt trousers that were last cool 10 years ago that we're pretty sure she wore the whole summer before she went to uni), but overall 90% of it is genuinely really nice, and Jess says she'd wear most of it and feel comfortable. So that was really fun, but it's been a long day for everyone, and about an hour ago mum said she'd had enough and was going to bed, and told us to be quiet or sleep. So Jess said she'd go to bed too, I've been sat with dad watching the news and thought I'd update. There's not much more to say... A few people asked about Therapy: she's on a waiting list, but they've said probably not until April. She's also really not looking forward to it, because she had a psych evaluation before they agreed to give her HRT, and she felt they were quite mean and didn't listen, wanted to wear her down until she decided against HRT..I wasn't there so I don't know if it was really that bad or if they're just required to ask really tough stuff, it didn't seem like my place to tell her she's being dramatic or whatever, if she's uncomfortable that's valid. But we can't afford private therapy anyway, so she has a little while to get used to it. She's already asked mum to go with her to at least the first session and mum promised she'll be there if it's allowed, so that's good. Other people have pointed out that a lot of her behaviour was probably due to the mood swings and basically second puberty that come with HRT, and yeah, that all sounds pretty accurate. I didn't bring that up today because there was enough to chat about on top of that, but I'll definitely keep it in mind when I'm frustrated that she's done something seemingly just to annoy me. I think I was being quite patient if this was just a case of "your siblings is being weird" but probably quite cold for "Jennifer has no idea how to do any of this and has just come to terms with a lot of this stuff in the middle of an unusually awful year, so there's a lot she can't do that would normally make this easier". So I'm.going to make an effort to remember that she's an adult woman is a body she has to fight to keep female, and side effets include acting like a preteen. There's not much else to say, thank you to people for the little award things, but I don't plan to use this account for anything else, and there probably won't be anything else to update, so I don't really need more of them. Thanks everyone for the advice! submitted by /u/dicecat2 to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]
