1
Enhanced Softness
Fabric softeners coat the fibers of fabrics, making them feel softer and more comfortable against the skin, which is particularly appealing for clothing and bedding.
2
Static Reduction
One of the primary benefits of fabric softener is its ability to reduce static electricity in clothes, which can be especially useful in dryer cycles, preventing clothes from clinging together.
3
Pleasant Fragrance
Many fabric softeners are infused with fragrances that leave clothes smelling fresh and clean, enhancing the overall laundry experience.
4
Wrinkle Reduction
Fabric softeners can help reduce wrinkles in clothes, making them easier to iron or wear straight from the dryer, which saves time and effort for consumers.
5
Increased Longevity of Fabrics
By reducing friction between fibers, fabric softeners can help extend the life of clothing and linens, making them less prone to wear and tear.
6
Growing Awareness of Home Care Products
As consumers become more aware of the importance of home care products, fabric softeners are gaining popularity as part of a comprehensive laundry routine that enhances the quality of life.

I use fabulosa laundry cleanser in the fabric softener drawer for towels and bedding if they've been washed at 40. But I'm sure detergent itself is enough. I just add the fabulosa for extra fragrance as the fabric conditioner i use isn't as strong.

If I absolutely have to use fabric softener...
I'm going insane over crunchy clothes. We air dry and don't have a dryer so it feels like our clothes are going to be hard no matter what. My washing machine has a steam setting which helps somewhat but only if you do it once the clothes have dried, then you need to hang them up again because they get damp from the steam, and it's just too much work. We have soft water where we live, we did citric acid rinses but I didn't notice a difference, and we are careful with dosing detergent. I really need our clothes to be soft because i don't want my 4 mo old wearing scratchy clothes and it's a big sensory issue for me too. So, unless there's some other trick for softer clothes we haven't tried, is there an acceptable approach for using fabric softener? What characteristics should i look for in a product? we are in Australia. How much more frequently should we clean our washing machine to prevent build up? Same goes for maybe doing a regular citric acid treatment on clothing? Grateful for any advice! submitted by /u/Emergency_Survey129 to r/laundry [link] [comments]

Fabric Softener (it’s a bit lengthy, but I’m asking in all honesty)
After having a read a few other posts related to this subject, I understand that the community in general does not recommend the use of fabric softeners for reasons including; bad for the environment, bad for the fabric, and bad for your plumbing to name a few. That said I would like to test the honesty of this sub because one thing that I found commonly being said here that is very controversial, is that fabric softener does not work to make the fabric any softer. First, if it was actually true that fabric softener does not make fabric any softer, there would be a viral class action lawsuit against every company that makes fabric softener for false advertising, and we would see them taken down from the shelves. And that’s just from a logical standpoint. From an anecdotal standpoint what I’ve experienced in my life, completely contradict the ocean the fabric softener doesn’t work, I will explain: … when I was in my 20s, early 20s right after I got off of college, I stayed with a friend in his parents house for a few months before I got a job and got on my feet and got my own place. That said his mom would often do laundry, and she did me the favor of doing mine and one thing I noticed when I got all of my clothes back after being washed was that my sweat clothes parentheses sweatpants, sweatshirts, hoodies, etc.) were shockingly softer than I’ve ever felt them out of a wash that I’ve ever done or that my mom or anyone else I’ve known has ever done in my life at that point . I was so shocked, I had to hunt her down and ask her specifically what she did to make the sweat clothes feel like they had never been washed because I always felt like sweatpants are great upon first wear, but once you wash them, they lose their magic, but sure enough, she told me she used fabric softener and that’s what does it, also keep in mind that my friends parents own and run multiple dry cleaning facilities, and laundromats around the local county, so they deal with clothes and cleaning and chemicals all day every day. So I’d like to re-ask this community, do you still stand by the notion that fabric softeners do not make fabric any softer or are you willing to concede that they do but you still don’t like them due to the many reasons you’ve already stated? If you agreed to the ladder, I would find this community to be much more credible and reasonable than from some of the responses I’ve seen so far and I don’t mean any offense by that. submitted by /u/GTBase2 to r/laundry [link] [comments]

Washed a whole unopened box of fabric softener sheets
The laundromat owner watched me pluck all the sheets out of my laundry before putting it in the dryer, he approaches me and asks "did you wash your fabric sheets?" I sighed, I said "yes the whole damn box, I forgot it was in my bag of laundry when I dumped it in. I didn't even notice until I pulled it out." He started laughing at me 😅😭 Oh well at least it was only $10 but it adds up when you spend so much money just doing laundry. submitted by /u/Avenged_Spence to r/Wellthatsucks [link] [comments]

Boomer threw temper tantrum at the store because he couldn't tell the difference between detergent and fabric softener.
Boomer asks one of the workers where he can find fabric softener and he gets pointed to where they are, this happens just as a I pass by. A few minutes later I hear him yelling from across the store "THIS is detergent and THIS IS ALSO DETERGENT?" and I look over (it's a small store) and he is holding two bottles of detergent up in the air while talking to one of the workers. My guess is that he grabbed something random off the shelves and went to ask if the thing he grabbed was fabric softener and when he was told no he started to yell. He then yells out "You want to make sales but you are not willing to help people out" while stomping his legs during the "not willing to help out" part of his sentence. I finish shopping and I go to checkout and I see him in front and he only had 1 bottle of laundry detergent in his basket and no fabric softener lmao. submitted by /u/adorkablegiant to r/BoomersBeingFools [link] [comments]

I recently found out downy uses a plastic film called vinyl homo polymer salt in the fragrance to make it have the perfume capsule technology and it has really bad health effects and the only product I found without it was the downy cool cotton and now I am stuck with it and I was wondering if there where any other recommendations. What do you use instead of fabric softener?
I've heard a bunch of negative things about fabric softener, I'd honestly love to stop using it as it would save me money. I heard about using the wool balls but I've never used them before so I'm just wondering how the process goes? My washer is a regular basin with no seperate compartments for detergent or softener. I usually just put the detergent into the basin and then my clothes, do I add the wool balls too or do those go in the dryer? I know this is a silly question but please help me out, thank you! EDIT: omg guys I did not expect this many responses I will look at all of them thank you everyone!!! EDIT: After reading all the replies, I will be trying vinegar and wool balls in my dryer :) I'm gonna wash my clothes today and will provide an update! submitted by /u/confusedaurora to r/CleaningTips [link] [comments]

Settle the fabric softener debate
Generally, people have said fabric softener is bad for clothes and washers because it creates a waxy film buildup on clothes that over times makes the garment harder to actually clean. On the other hand people have said it’s actually good for the clothes because that waxy film protects the clothes from pilling and abrasion during the agitation phase of the wash cycle. And of course it makes clothes smell better. Do you use fabric softener? Why or why not? submitted by /u/Throwaway1988424 to r/laundry [link] [comments]

PSA: Please Stop Using Fabric Softener!
So if you’re part of this sub-Reddit you probably also know just how bad fabric softener is; not only for your appliance but for your clothes! Fabric softener ruins machines with tons of build up overtime, it can create huge mold and mildew problems in front loaders, and almost all the fabric softeners on the market are made with some type of synthetic wax/fat or animal fat. And… it’s not even good or beneficial to any type of fabric! Some people argue that they have hard water so they need to use fabric softener. But there are plenty of alternatives available versus fabric spftener. Downy even makes a fabric softener alternative “Rinse and Refresh” that’s basically a fabric softener without the nasty residue (Although I also believe it’s a waste of money since it’s mostly just fragrance) or just use regular vinegar! submitted by /u/zachty22 to r/CleaningTips [link] [comments]

LPT: Learn which fabrics should and shouldn't be washed with fabric softener
Towels have been posted here before, because fabric softener ruins their absorption, but it also makes your bedsheets a lot less breathable. Also, anything that's flame retardant or moisture wicking cannot maintain those qualities if you use fabric softener. If you're spending good money on high quality underwear or Under Armor type apparel, and constantly sweat more in them, that's why. If you have young kids that wear pajamas, check the tags, they'll likely say no fabric softener. Wash them separately! submitted by /u/DanOfAllTrades80 to r/LifeProTips [link] [comments]

That’s all I got, I ain’t no scientist Edit: For those worried about clothes coming out static-y, the culprit might be that you’re putting your clothes in the dryer for too long or too high of heat. Try less heat or less time:) Editedit: Don’t use fabric softener. submitted by /u/MountWang to r/LifeProTips [link] [comments]

LPT: Refrain from using fabric softener on your socks; it lessens the absorption causing them to wear out at a much faster rate. Same goes for towels! Thanks Mom!
