Hi, I’m gonna get my new German car (Slavia) soon in Hyderabad. This is my second car, had Baleno Manual previously for 8 years, completely stock. Recently purchased a BYD Atto 3 Premium. Was wondering which coating option would be best to protect the car paint from minor scratches Heat dissipation Read online that others combine PPF and ceramic coating, PPF first. OP update here from previous post, for all the folks who didn’t believe in clogged ceramic coatings I believe I understand why. I was washing my car biweekly with ph neutral soap for the full 1.5 years the car had been coated with Adam’s graphene ceramic coating. The door panels started sheeting and I couldn’t figure out why. Today, I restored the hydrophobic properties by using acidic cleaning products. I guess most people would just call that a dirty car and some call it clogged. But I: ⁠Fully rinsed the car ⁠Foam cannon with Adam strip wash, let dwell for 3 minutes, agitated door panels, and rinsed ⁠Iron remover in the door panels and rear of the car, dwell for 3 minutes and rinsed thoroughly ⁠Foam cannon with Adams car shampoo (ph neutral) and fully washed the entire car This restored hydrophobic properties but I then decided to Use adams graphene detail spray as a drying aide and towel dried the car. I have a new car that I'll be doing a full compound, polish and ceramic coating on. I've used Adam's Graphene Ceramic Coating Advanced 3 times now on black cars. I found it difficult to get apply and get no high spots. The end results looked great and I had no issues with the performance of the coating, but I'm looking for something easier. Adam's seems to be rated highly in some online tests, which is one of the reasons I went with it, but I'm open to other options now. I don't need a 10 year coating. Realistically I'd probably end up doing some sort of maintenance polish every 2-3 years anyways. Self explanatory title, I just wanted to share it with some people who might appreciate it. Pre wash, wash, rinse, iron decontamination, rinse, clay mitt, rinse, dry, 1-step polish, wiped excess polish with a prep solution, ceramic coated with Adam’s advanced graphene ceramic coating. Every step was pretty much brand new except for the wash, it was completely clean to the touch before the ceramic and everything past the wash was done inside in a 60ish degree garage. I got into detailing 25+ years ago when I got my first car, back when it was hand applied wax and sealants. I took a ~10 hiatus from detailing due to time and energy being needed elsewhere (i.e. family/kids/career), but a couple of years ago I got back into keeping my cars detailed, spurred by trading the 'ol dad-mobile for something fun again. The game had changed while I was away, everything became sprays and ceramic coatings, wax is apparently dead, convienience and longevity trump deep gloss, glassy looking ceramics are in vogue, and LSPs are seemingly judged soley by how tight they bead water. I bought in and started using ceramic spray sealants first, and hated them. Convienient, but the spray mist irritated my nose and eyes, and they didn't look like I remembered a fresh coat of WOWO wax or sealant looking. And the potential streaking, overspray on glass, among other things. So I did the proper decon and polishing to apply a ceramic coating. Functionally great, but looked too glassy, like it's just reflecting light off the surface. It was harsh looking to my eye, for lack of a better word. I was never happy with it, but it performed great so lived with it for about a year. I couldn't live with it anymore though. I wash every week and enjoy experimenting with different products anyways, so multi-year longevity held little to no draw for me. I did the decon and clay steps again, then polished off my ceramic coating and applied a sealant old-school style with an applicator, waited for the haze, and wiped off, with the intention of putting a layer of carnauba on top, like back in the day. The first time I pulled my car out of the garage after a day of that was nostolgic, there it was again, the deep glossy look I remembered, not the glass looking coating it was wearing. light was in the paint not reflecting off the surface, the mica pearl was popping through, not hidden behind glass-like reflectivity. And the slickness is unreal, something not many coatings can match. Slippery slick. Looked so good I haven't bothered topping it with wax yet, still will eventually though. Most of the day was spent on decon and re-polishing, the liquid sealant was easy to apply and easier to wipe off, no big deal, easy enough I won't mind doing that part 3 times a year if necessary. I used McKee's Graphene Deep Gloss Ceramic Sealant to be specific. Claims 12 months, but I'll legit be happy with 4. It's got the graphine and ceramic buzzwords, but whatever, I just wanted the liquid sealant look, so if that extra stuff adds longevity I don't know yet. I garage park at home and at work, so my car stays out of the elements for the most part, getting useful longevity should be easy in my situation. We'll see if a year's experience living with the low maintenace of a ceramic coating spoiled me when the sealant needs reapplied, and if I regret it or not, but probably not. I can always recoat. I bought some Collinite 915 for when I decide to top the sealant with wax, and already tested it on my wife's car, it looks great, really great. Can't beat the look of wax. I see that get debated here, but to my eye on my paint (or my wife's paint in this case), there's a world of difference in the look. I tried to enjoy my ceramic coating, but in the end it wasn't worth the tradeoffs. A year ago I washed, decon’d, one step polish and applied Adam’s Advanced Graphene ceramic (little glass bottle) on this BMW 430i. The mfg states this is a “9 year” coating. I haven’t seen this car in a year. The owner does his own at home maintenance washing with the rare tunnel wash. He brought it to me as he’s been driving a lot recently and needed a good wash. This video is BEFORE I washed it. So it has some dirt/ grime on it. IMO the coating has held up really well. Beading is still super tight. What are your thoughts? Hi everyone! I thought I would do an update on my P1S that I ceramic coated a while ago. To give a bit of context, I decided to ceramic coat the glass of my P1S after seeing that I still had a bunch of leftovers after detailing my car. My initial hope for this was that it would make the glass a lot easier to clean after printing with ASA. In case you don’t know, printing with ASA tends to leave this oily, hazy styrene residue on the inside of your printer, including the glass. And since I print with ASA quite a bit, the glass of my printer will just constantly fog up even with a filter running inside. Now at first I didn’t think that the coating would do much other than make the residue wipe off easier, but oh boy was I wrong. Not only was the glass really easy clean (just blast with some water and dry off with a microfiber), but it also seems to stop collecting residue altogether! I went through an entire roll of ASA and two rolls of PLA after I coated it, and even then the glass remained clear and barely needed any cleaning outside of dust and some cat hair. Normally, without the coating, the glass would’ve been opaque white at this point. But the coating seems to have prevented that from happening. If you print with materials that fumes a lot and fog up your glass, I strongly recommend this treatment since it’s really easy to apply and lasts a good while too. And plus I think the results speak for themselves: In the first two pics, the glass had the coating. It was taken after 1 entire roll of ASA and 2 rolls of PLA. In the last pic, the glass didn’t have the coating. It was taken after just 2 prints of ASA. If anyone is interested, I used the Adam’s graphene ceramic glass coating (not the normal stuff). It’s wipe-on, wipe-off, relatively cheap, and you can apply it to literally everything made of glass. What was originally supposed to be a fun weekend project quickly turned into a nightmare. I started Saturday and finished late last night. Overall, I'm very happy with the results. However, I did see 2 small high spots this morning that I will need to polish off at some point. Not bad for a newbie though. I think what made this process longer than what it should've been was my own OCD. I wanted everything to be perfect and I believed if I took my time I could get the results similarly to a professional (I perform fabrication on aircraft for work so surface prep,sanding, and applying coatings, etc. is not uncharted territory for me). Everything was going fine until I got the the polishing stage. I did NOT expect it to take me so damn long and I did NOT expect my new 2025 ctr to be riddled with swirls in the clear coat. Not even a 1 step correction could get all the scratches out, although I did get most of them out and my car does look alot better. When I first started, I wanted perfection. It wasn't until 4-5 hours into it, I realized my expectations were unrealistic unless I were to do a 2 step correction, which I had zero desire to take off that much clear coat on a new car. So after awhile a few scratches here and there stopped bothering me. The difference between a hobbyist and a professional is time. A pro could easily get this done in a day. Whereas it took me 4 days to complete the job. 4 fucking days. I had to take PTO Monday. And Tuesday I was able to get a ride to work but only slept 3 hours since I was up all night trying to get this done. I was no longer having a good time. Polishing is a pain in the fucking ass and is nightmare fuel if you have OCD. Oh, and it didnt help that my brand new Griots G9 random DA polisher died after only a couple hours of use. I changed the brushes and tried everything else I could to troubleshoot it. But no avail. So beware of their polishers. They stop working for no reason and are overpriced. I went to Harbor Freight and their polisher worked like a damn charm for almost 1/3 of the price. I used adams advanced graphene ceramic coating which is TRICKY to work with at first. I didn't realize until I already started that it's not recommended for beginners. I had to redo the entire hood and roof because there were high spots everywhere that I didn't see until I took it out in the sun for better lighting. My advice is to absolutely make sure your overlaps are 50% and apply little to no pressure during the coating process. If you read this far, thank you. After how frustrating these past few days have been, this post is therapy for me right now. Would I do this again? Fuck no. Well, not for at least a couple grand lol. I get now why a ceramic coat is so expensive. Salute to all the detailers out there who do this for a living. It took me well over 14 hours to do the complete interior and exterior detail on it especially with the amount of dust and dirt that was caked onto the carpets and dashes. And it was worth it! Only been about 3 weeks since I applied Adams Advanced Graphene Advanced (from the tiny bottle, not the spray). It took way longer than I anticipated with the strip wash, clay bar, surface prep, then ceramic coat. I was satisfied with my paint so I didn’t polish. Overall it was fairly easy. The ceramic is impossible to see flash or rainbow on the white paint, so I went by feel. I probably didn’t level it enough but who knows. It looks perfect in all kinds of light. The UV light helped when I missed a spot or had a high spot. I did the glass 7 months ago with their glass ceramic. Not super impressed with the glass tbh. Debris still really sticks to it. If I could do it over, I would level with the suede towel and then go over it again with the white plush towel that comes with the kit. Hopefully it’ll last a while. Edit: 300+ comments and not one person has provided a link that proves ceramics are better than a $20 bottle of Sealant. Just saying. Hey guys, I'm not sure if this is even allowed, but I see people getting ripped off and I want to save you some $. Teslas are expesive, so most owners have some money, and I see a lot of unscrupulous detailers charging Tesla owners $1200-2500 on “ceramic coatings” with “nano technology” and all sorts of other marketing buzzwords, and they justify this by wanting to ‘protect their investment’. I want you to protect your investment too, and if you already paid for one of these services, fine, your car is very protected…. But….. it’s not ceramic. It’s not nano technology. It’s not even a new product. It’s SEALANT. Sealant is not expensive. It is far superior to wax, but it's not hard to do yourself and it's extremely cheap. It chemically bonds to the paint. If you’ve ever used Rain-X, that is a sealant. You apply it with a microfiber, wait for it to haze, then buff it off. The liquid forms a chemical bond with the glass. Wax does not. Wax is a layer on top of your paint. It does not last long, and sap/bird droppings/crap will attack it/dissolve it. Instead of spending $1500 on a coating, just spend $20 on a bottle of Klasse. Klasse is a sealant what was originally intended for the aviation market, and it came out in the late 70s/early 80s. You apply it just like rain-x. Make sure your car is clean, throw a dap of klasse on a microfiber, buff into the paint, wait for it to haze, then use a slightly damp rag to polish out. No residue like wax, it’s a LOT like applying Rain-x. You can layer it as well; I have 5 coats on my cars, and it holds up incredibly well. I did my Audi 4 years ago, and the water still runs right off/beads up like it’s freshly waxed. If the shine isn’t enough for you, you can even wax OVER the sealant. One bottle of Klasse will do about 6-10 cars. If anybody has PROOF that these ceramic coatings are any different than a sealant, please post it. Then, once we have actual data to compare the sealants, people could decide if spending the additional $1480 is worth it to get that fancy coating, vs a $20 bottle of Klasse Sealant. It was starting to lose some of it's protection around this time and now, 36 months after I did it, it is failing on some of the horizontal surfaces.
