Well 2 days ago I was enjoying my second ride of the year, and the first on my old Blade having rebuilt the brakes over winter. I even got away with just summer gloves and heated hand grips. I don’t know how I waited so long to get one! I have turned down my heat more than 5 degrees and I’m still warm and cozy on the couch or in bed and when I’m walking around doing chores the colder temp doesn’t bother me. I got my first utility bill after switching and the blanket has already paid for itself twice over. Don’t sleep (pun intended) or the “warm yourself not the room” hype. It’s real. It works. My toes are so happy and I’m getting my mom one for Mother’s Day. All the wool sweaters, socks, and down comforters I piled on myself are nothing compared to this blanket. So i usually like to go to sleep on a chill room with a regular blanket on. I like my room at 68 when im sleeping and 70 when im awake. to save on my electric bill, i bought a heater with exact temperature controls that turns off when it reaches the temp i want, then just turns on spodradically to maintain that temp. so, i was thinking, what if i purchase a heated blanket with temperature control. i could set the blanket to be at 68, while the heater can be set to 64. hopefully saving me some money on my bill since the heater is more expensive to run. has anyone tried this? edit: for the people who hadnt thought about this and are reading this. and are interested, here is one extra tip. no matter what temp i set my heater at before, i would always wake up feeling really cold, and i would procrastinate getting up. and i started sleeping with these cheap jackets from amazon. and i feel like, because of the inner texture, they retain my body heat very well, so i never feel cold in the mornings anymore, allowing me to set the heater at a lower temp and saving some money in the long term. I also dont feel the temperature change as much when i go into the rest of the appartment , so i can confortably walk around the house without feeling too cold even though the rest of the house is about 5 degrees colder. I had a 10 year old queen sized heated blanket that finally stopped working. I loved it because the heating wires went all the way to the edges of the blanket. I can’t seem to find one of equivalent size where it heats all the way to the edges. Does anyone know of something out there that meets this criteria? Hi! So, I've done all my Christmas shopping this year except for my mom! She's unfortunately kind of hard to shop for because she doesn't have many hobbies besides tik tok and the occasional movie. But earlier this year she mentioned that she was considering purchasing a heated blanket since she gets so cold at night (she always uses a blow dryer to warm up her blankets). I was thinking of getting her one (probably a throw blanket she can put over or under her covers, because I don't want to choose a comforter she doesn't like). Does anyone know any decent heated blankets? I'm worried about the blanket only lasting a short period before it has to be replaced, so if anyone has or knows someone with a heated blanket that's lasted at least 2 or 3 years, I'd love to know the brand! It'd be even better if it has a timer for the heat, because I'm worried she'll accidentally fall asleep with it on. every winter i tell myself i’m gonna finally get a decent heated blanket, and every winter i end up scrolling reviews and procrastinate. some say life-changing, others say caught on fire, and somewhere in between are 300 people arguing about which one shuts off too early. i don’t need anything fancy, just something reliable that doesn’t turn into e-waste by february, so pls genuine recoms only. i’m mostly trying to make my room less freezing at night without blasting the heater all the time (my electric bill already hates me). stuff that actually matters to me: * even heating, no random cold spots halfway across the blanket quiet controller that doesn’t click or buzz while running machine washable without destroying the wiring decent fabric that still feels nice without the heat on long cord so i’m not rearranging my room around one outlet (preferable but not deal breaker obv) i’ve seen biddeford, sunbeam, and pure enrichment come up, but reviews are all over the place, half love them, half say they die after a month. not sure if the smaller heated throw type ones last longer than full bed-sized ones either. if anyone’s found a heated blanket that’s actually held up for more than a season (and didn’t turn sketchy after a few washes), please drop the name. would love to avoid buying another glorified nightlight this year. Hello! England here. My HMO landlord controls the heating on his phone which means it’s never on. I reported it to my local council a few months ago and he fixed it before they visited (after I asked the agency repeatedly prior) - But now he’s turned it back to control on his devices (I handed in my month’s notice 3 days ago). It frustrates me so much knowing that in my council that isn’t allowed and it’s causing me sleepless nights. Around the time I first reported it I grabbed an electric blanket I had at my parent’s for in case I needed it - and I’m thinking to use it now - despite it being a clause to not use electric heaters in my contract. (Context in case it’s a devolved issue: in my council it is against a hmo license to not allow tenants control of the heating) Can I do that? Surely them breaking their hmo licence justifies me breaking my lease if he refuses to turn the heating on. So, I have an 8 year old cousin, who we'll call Katie for the sake of the story. For my 16th birthday, my best friend Jasper gave me a heated blanket because I mentioned how my room can get freezing whenever it wants. It basically a red blanket that plugs in, you pick one of four settings and it auto shuts off after 3 hours so its not a fire hazard. Safe to say, I love this thing. I'm actually using it right now lol So two days ago, my aunt and uncle and Katie came over for dinner. I asked Katie if she wanted to play a game on our switch, she excitedly said yes so we went up to my room and set it up to my TV. Just my luck, my room was freezing cold, so I set up my heated blanket for Katie and I while my heater slowly heats up the room. When they were about to leave, Katie came running to me with the blanket, asking if she could take it home. The thing is, they have two dogs who ruin stuff in 2 seconds, while she doesnt take the best care of her stuff either (understantable since shes 8). I took nicely took it from her and said no in the nicest way possible. I told her that it was a birthday gift that Jasper gave to me. She looked disappointed but smiled. She's met Jasper, and aside from her parents and I, he's gotta be her favourite person, and he absolutely adores her. (She's told Jasper and I that we need to get together and get married so that she can see him more often lol). She ran to her parents and got her stuff on, and my aunt and uncle asked why I couldn't just give it to her. I said again that it was a birthday gift from Jasper. They just said that I could've given it to her and Jasper or I could get another one. I don't wanna give it away since it was a birthday gift from my best friend, and he had a hilariously hard time getting it. (He paid for it, but he had to ask his mother to order it, and tried his best to not mention that it was a gift for a girl, since you can probably tell how shed respond lol). I stood my ground and told them that I would not be giving it to them, and they just huffed and left. Later they texted me saying that I was an AH and I should've just given it to her. I was older, and I should've been the bigger person. The thing is, Katie had literally no problem with me saying no, so I have no idea what their problem was, but the way AH was thrown around it reminded me of this place.
