Home Depot R2D2 - on-demand dome movement & blinky lights & beeps - WITHOUT being in step mode - Droid Caller with remote relay
Home Depot R2D2 - on-demand dome movement & blinky lights & beeps - WITHOUT being in step mode - using JunkDroids Droid Caller with remote relay - Star Wars - droids Figured out how to simply setup my home depot R2D2 droid for on-demand dome movement with blinky lights & beeps - WITHOUT being in the try-me step mode. It was simple: disconnect the relay from the 3.5mm jack on the controller box and then instead connect to the 3-pin JST SM connection for the front sensor. I also have this connected to a push button on the restraining bolt - therefore have this on-demand capability via a direct press on the restraining bolt push button & remotely via the droid caller (aka droid controller). To also still use the front sensor, had to use a splitter cable - THE SENSOR WAS WORKING - but I somehow zapped the sensor & therefore now waiting for a new replacement sensor from SVI. So this is still a work in progress. THE SENSOR WAS WORKING. I was trying to see if I can still plug into the 3.5mm jack if i want to switch to step mode. NOW I would say NO. Just unplug from the 3.5mm jack. BTW this is on my homedepot motorized disco-dancing R2D2 which has become my adventurous R2 droid for experimenting on. TO BE CONTINUED.... P.S. MSE-6 Mouse Droids finished. Converted from disney popcorn buckets to motorized mouse droids with beeps. All painted & done. Made one for myself & one for neighbor who really wanted his own mouse droid ("I want one"). And I want to make another one - but kinda like a police mouse droid with the red lights on top similar to those mouse droids ganging up on R5 in The Mandalorian season 3 episode 8. Cardboard C3PO talks & eyes light up - and Home Depot R2D2 get inner support rings - Droids
Cardboard Standup #C3PO talks & eyes light up - and #HomeDepot #R2D2 get inner support rings - #Droids - #Droid - #StarWars You can find the cardboard C3PO available on amazon, ebay, etsy for like $50+ -- but me got my Cardboard Standup Cutout Standee C3PO on sale for $45 on amazon. So now have a threepio to go along with my artoo detoo droids. But this C3PO is a cardboard droid & not the homedepot animatronic C3PO that lots of people hope will be available for Xmas 2026. Of course, had to install mods on this C3PO to make him talk & have his eyes light up. Currently only have one C3PO dialog sample on the microsd card for the motion-activated mp3 player. So me have to go through the movies to get scene edits of C3PO & convert them to mp3 files to put more C3PO talking dialogs on the microsd card. Anyways me happy with these two simple mods for my cardboard C3PO. Kinda like an overgrown birthday card that talks & lights up. Also added a simple install of a magnetic restraining bolt (from Junkdroids on Etsy) - but me thinking needs a smaller restraining bolt because of how C3PO is positioned on the cardboard standup. Meanwhile installed support rings (from AstroCoreDepot on Etsy) on both of my home depot R2D2s for both the dome & the main body. Installing the support ring on the dome is easy. But installing the support ring for the main barrel body required a bit of tweaking to the rings to accommodate both the cable for the disco lights on both of my R2s in the large data port & the inner junkdroids shoulder supports on my motorized disco-dancing R2 to strengthen R2 for motorizing. All doable but still have to force the ring to fit in the main barrel body. submitted by /u/me0ww00f to r/starwarscollecting [link] [comments]

Home Depot R2D2 - Disco Test Drive - Dome shined up with Graphite Powder - Droid - Motor - Wheels
#HomeDepot #R2D2 - #Disco #Test #Drive - Dome shined up with Graphite Powder - #Pinstriped around Dome's Blue Panels using NIB Marker - #Droid - #Motor - #Wheels - #StarWars . Just test drive spinning R2D2. Did some tweaks to the dome - such as painted silver panels on back of dome as well as shine up the dome using graphite powder - although did NOT paint the dome's blue panels but pinstriped around the dome's panels using a black NIB marker. . NOW waiting for internal support rings for dome & body from AstroCoreDepot on Etsy & FB to install on both this disco-dancing stunt-double home depot R2D2 and also on my other display-model caster-wheels-only homedepot R2D2. . Home Depot R2D2 - Twins Demo - Try Me Button & Droid Caller - Motorized Disco Dance - Recharging
#HomeDepot #R2D2 - #Twins #Comparison #Demo - #TryMe #Button & #JunkDroids #DroidCaller - #Motorized #Wheels #Disco #Music #Dance #Spinning - #Recharging This was going to be a longer three-minute video short - but this has a bit of star wars disco cantina music in it and youtube tends to block video shorts longer than 60sec if there is any copyright music. So chopped this into a fun minute-long (57sec) video short. Anyways had to cut out a bunch of video segments showing parts comparison differences between the two R2 units. I'll have to make separate video(s) with like an inventory of parts for each R2 as well as a cost breakdown. FYI: Almost all done with both R2s - just little things to do like getting at least a new restraining bolt for the motorized stunt-double R2 - had to finagle a temporary D-I-Y restraining bolt to be able put a "try me" step button in the bolt because the Junkdroid restraining bolt that I got for the second R2 would not let me drill a hole thru its magnetic metal middle - the restraining bolt from Gages3DCreations on my first display-model R2 was easier to drill thru its magnetic middle for inserting a "try me" step button. So i have to order that bolt. But it was fun to setup the Junkdroids DROID CALLER to remotely wake up both R2 units - just have to set the new relay circuit board for the second motorized stunt-double R2D2 to learn & pair to my existing remote for the first pretty display-model R2D2. Also may gloss paint the motorized R2's dome? Or maybe instead just only shine the dome with graphite powder? And should I paint the dome's blue panels? But I want to paint the silver back panels on the dome? Oh, and for the first R2, may redo the FLD with a new reticulate LED strip but install a new very nice deeper FLD frame from LayerPrinter. BTW: The LayerPrinter RLD which I have on the motorized R2 is also very nice with its deep inset as well as its end-to-end rows - but instead of astropixels I'm actually using a couple simple cheap 3V filament LED string pieces on that RLD to piggyback off R2's default FLD 3V electrical connection to make for nice cheap simple static RLD lighting which turns on/off at the same time as the other default dome lights on the motorized R2. Will have to show that off in a future inventory video. submitted by /u/me0ww00f to r/starwarscollecting [link] [comments]

Home Depot R2D2 gets COIN SLOT LIGHTS to go along with DISCO LIGHTS - Star Wars - Droid - Astromech
Home Depot R2D2 gets Coin Slot Lights to go along with Disco Lights - Star Wars - Droid - Astromech Prettying up my homedepot motorized stunt-double R2D2. Previously intended to maybe only pinstripe my second R2 unit to sorta match my first pretty display-model caster-wheels-only homedepot R2D2 - but I'm ending up installing disco lights & disco music + coin slot lights - and also adding 3V LEDs to the front & back default original holoprojectors. Also adding a bunch of junkdroid (and also from other etsy vendor 3D-printed) parts & therefore my second R2 will kinda at least match & in some ways more than match my first display-model R2 - BUT the the second R2 will retain the original default holos & default FLD lights & will have static 3V RLD lights which will piggyback off the FLD 3V connection to be able turn ALL of the dome lights on/off at the same time. Still waiting for a new RLD part from LayerPrinter on Etsy. And since I have a lot of extra parts, I'll most likely wire up the restraining bolt as a "try-me" step button on the second R2 just like on the first R2 - and will most likely also wire it for the remote droid controller. Anyways, I've installed the Coin Slots part from JunkDroids. There is someone else on Etsy who sells a coin slots part for the homedepot R2D2 - but I think the junkdroids version is more accurate looking & yes its coin slots are actual OPEN slots to shine the lights through. Me say you can light up these coin slots. FYI: I'm finding if you pretty up one R2D2, then you can pretty up your next R2 in the same way or better.... submitted by /u/me0ww00f to r/starwarscollecting [link] [comments]

Home Depot R2D2 - motorizing & wheels progress - strengthen shoulders & legs - more to do - RC DROID
Getting closer to motorizing my homedepot stunt-double R2D2 - NEXT: to secure the axle supports to inside R2's foot to hold motor & wheel in place - (NOTE: axle supports cut from gocart frame; see my earlier videos to see gocart) - I'm thinking screwing/bolting each axle support to the inside bottom of foot with wood spacer with screw/bolt going thru hole from bottom of foot thru wood spacer into axle bar support Still want/need to strengthen the ankle area by either screwing in a wood spacer or filling with caulking or plastic wood FYI: I've found that using a cheap "hot knife" (which is really a soldering iron with a blade) is easy to use to cut into the R2 plastic (but I found it best to drill a hole first as to where to start cutting) - I did NOT want to buy an expensive ultrasonic cutter (aka sonic knife) like others are suggesting - because a "hot knife" is just as good & cheaper - previously used the "hot knife" to cut out the default flat fake octagon on my first homedepot R2D2 to put in a more accurate octagon port - and the "hot knife" now does the job cutting up an extra wider hole in the inside side of the foot to fit where the motor will stick into the battery pack & then later will cut the hole in the bottom of the foot for the wheel Another FYI: using a Home Depot medium-size moving box is great for holding up the homedepot R2D2 main body while the side legs are unattached Also waiting for 3D-printed parts from JunkDroids (on Etsy) including the shoulder stabilizers which have to go in first before I can close up R2's legs - NOTE: the JunkDroids Shoulder Supports are IMHO a MUST-GET for strengthening the homedepot R2D2 shoulders & legs if you plan to #motorize your R2 or if you find your R2's shoulders & legs are splaying apart (inadvertantly spreading outwards sideways) submitted by /u/me0ww00f to r/starwarscollecting [link] [comments]

BIG & SMALL R2-D2 - R2 Family Portrait - Home Depot R2D2 gets Shoulder Supports (to next be motorized)
BIG & SMALL R2-D2 - R2 Family Portrait - Home Depot R2D2 gets Shoulder Supports (to next be motorized) FYI: The JunkDroids Shoulder Supports are excellent to help prevent R2's legs from splaying (separating) apart outwards. Of course, if you keep your homedepot R2D2 on its base, then you may not notice this possible issue. BUT if motorizing, you definitely need to strengthen R2's shoulders & legs. The Home Depot R2D2 is said to be made from cheap recycled plastic & therefore R2's construction is kinda weak. My first R2 had one bad shoulder that splayed a bit - also I later stripped one shoulder bolt by overtightening & therefore the splaying got worse. So I used double-sided mounting tape to strengthen both shoulders on my first R2 to eliminate the splaying issue & to make my first R2's shoulders stronger. The second R2 had a bad splaying issue straight outta the box - but now benefited greatly from the JunkDroids Shoulder Supports to eliminate the splaying & of course strengthening the shoulders for the motor/wheels conversion. So if motorizing, get shoulder supports like from JunkDroids on Etsy. But if not motorizing, then you can simply use double-sided mounting tape like from Home Depot - you can cut the mounting tape in pieces to fully fit/cover to adhere the R2 leg's round shoulder where the leg's shoulder meets R2's main body. Next to further strengthen the legs and cut into the feet to fit & install the motors & wheels etc. submitted by /u/me0ww00f to r/starwarscollecting [link] [comments]

Home Depot R2D2 - DONE w/ new holoprojector light + new caster wheels etc - and to motorize new R2D2
So me thinks all done-complete-finished (?) with this home depot R2D2 - with a bunch of tweaks & mods including some not mentioned before in previous videos BUT NOW ended up getting yet ANOTHER homedepot R2D2 to actually begin to work on motorizing Based on my experience, here's a PRO TIP: MOTORIZE FIRST (or at least early on) before doing all the pretty R2D2 mods tweaks addons - because you will NOT want to remove all the pretty stuff when you actually get around to begin motorizing So now have the Pretty Home Depot R2D2 and to begin working on the Stunt Double Motorized Home Depot R2D2 - I don't think I'll pretty up the motorized R2 too much - but maybe just enuf to sorta match afterwards Waiting on the JunkDroids shoulder supports & servo stabilizer for the second R2D2 - probably get soon-ish like this week to really strengthen the legs connecting to the main R2 body at the shoulder points - certainly have to strengthen the shoulders if want to motorize - the R2 plastic construction is really weak and is prone to splaying legs and particularly if the shoulder bolt connections get messed up - don't overtighten the bolts or will strip the threads which is what happened on my first R2 & ended up using double-sided mounting tape to securely hold the legs together at the shoulders on the first R2 - but that was a good excuse for me to finally securely glue on various leg pieces like the ankle bracelets & the foot silver plates as well as put the chrome tape on the inner shoulders on my first R2D2 Anyways ... Home Depot R2D2 - new Radar Eye + Smartcam installed - droidcam - videocam - remote cam - Star Wars
Home Depot R2D2 - new Radar Eye + Smartcam installed - droidcam - videocam - remote cam - #StarWars Our Home Depot R2D2 is officially now a smartcam for our home. We have a bunch of smartcams at our main house & at our mom's house. And therefore I really wanted to put a smartcam in our homedepot R2D2. Home Depot R2D2 - new Radar Eye SmartCam testing - Droid - Star Wars - duct-tape testing videocam
Home Depot R2D2 - new Radar Eye SmartCam testing - Droid - Star Wars - duct-tape testing videocam Our Home Depot R2D2 is to become yet another smartcam (LOL a glorified smartcam) for our home. We have a bunch of smartcams at our main house as well as at our mom's house. And therefore, yes, I have been really wanting to put a smartcam in R2D2. Was going to put in a wyze cam because we have mostly wyze cams at our homes - and wanted to put in a battery cam - BUT the wyze battery cam turned out to be a bit too clumbersome (i.e., too big) to somehow finagle into the radar eye. So instead found a perfect fitting VidCastive Mini Cam on Amazon. This cam has a long 100 day standby battery life. So our R2D2 will be on duty watching the house with the smartcam always on even when R2 is turned off. And this cam can also fortunately be plugged into a usb to charge while still turned ON working at the same time (note: seems that a lot of other mini cams have to be turned off in order to recharge). And also got the really nice Radar Eye housing mount-frame as 3D-printed by LegacyPropShop on Etsy (aka @TektonProps on instagram) - and using a clear eye (really a cut piece from a half round clear ornament for a xmas tree) with the smartcam inserted inside & to have a dark/black backing board - plus with a USB-C cable stringing out to plug into a usb port on R2D2's internal powerbank. So this proof of concept appears to work with the smartcam temporarily duct-taped in place. And now time to paint the radareye & construct the back board for the clear eye piece to hold the smartcam. Home Depot R2D2 using Hey Google Verbal Command with SwitchBot to Turn On R2D2 - Power Bank - Droid
FYI: Hey Google automation scripts work better to automate multiple commands in a single automation script when using two SwitchBots . In comparison, Amazon Alexa routines scripts could not handle more than one switchbot - even if specify two separate switchbots in the routine - the Alexa routine script would only command one (same) switchbot to therefore press the same button - where the only solution, if you have to use alexa with multiple switchbots, is to individually say separate alexa verbal commands - see my other video: https://www.reddit.com/r/starwarscollecting/s/0cL8flC30e . Also another problem with amazon alexa is if you have an Amazon Fire TV Cube which has alexa voice command - the alexa on FireTV may not accept your verbal alexa routine command to turn on/off your R2D2 because alexa may instead ask you to select a R2D2 video or may offer a R2D2 quiz game . Anyways me say forget alexa & go with google. This combination of SwitchBot & Hey Google works great with my Google Nest Mini (aka Google Home Mini) - BUT you have to carefully say R-2-D-2 for google to recognize that is what you are saying - otherwise google may tell you that your light or your thermostat is not set up submitted by /u/me0ww00f to r/starwarscollecting [link] [comments]

Home Depot R2D2 - ongoing tweaks & mods
HD R2D2 gets more tweaks & mods -- including how Power Bank gets recharging port (replacing xmas lights plug-in) on R2's rear power coupling port which now becomes, um, like, a REAL power coupling port - plus LEDs TEST to eventually light up the rear logic display - and poor Artoo finds out he eventually getting surgery to get wheels & motor - and waiting for more parts etc for more ongoing tweaks on our R2 unit submitted by /u/me0ww00f to r/starwarscollecting [link] [comments]

Home Depot R2D2 is home
Received our R2D2 from Home Depot today via Ontrac shipping. Ordered yesterday after getting trackalacker alert. Luckily received undamaged - all in very good shape. Easy to assemble. And now to do some tweaks - like at least add the etsy/junkdroids servo plate mod to get rid of the minor no-no shakes (if they don't just go away?) plus maybe do some other cosmetic tweaks. Maybe would like to add wheels & get of the base? But otherwise very happy with this R2D2 as it is. submitted by /u/me0ww00f to r/starwarscollecting [link] [comments]

I have a Stern Star Wars home edition table and an R2D2 animatronic from Home Depot. Would it be safe to wire the “Try Me” button port on the R2 to the “Start” button on the pinball machine, so R2 comes alive when a game starts and the button is bridged/pressed?
The “Try Me” button port is just a stereo 3.5mm mini jack that starts the animatronic up when it’s bridged—just like an arcade button. submitted by /u/ShavedNeckbeard to r/pinball [link] [comments]

Home Depot R2D2 secured
The Home Depot R2D2 is nothing short of awesome. Exceeds the hype. It is larger than I expected and you’ll need a bit of floor space for it due to the base. But it looks sweet right out of the box. I used the Trackalacker inventory tracker to get notified it was in stock. Home Depot does not send out notices it is in stock so you can’t rely on their notification process. You’ll need to act fast once you get the Trackalacker notification because these sell out within a couple minutes each time. But Home Depot delivered this next day and it’s easy to assemble. Best of luck to you all to those that are trying to get one. submitted by /u/adlove216 to r/starwarscollecting [link] [comments]
