Did they trim my Japanese maple too much? Before & after pics
Just had my laceleaf Japanese maple trimmed and I’m not sure if they went too far with it. The “before” photo was very full and low to the ground, and now after trimming it’s raised up a lot and looks much thinner underneath. I know these trees can handle pruning, but I’m worried they may have removed too much canopy at once or changed the shape too aggressively. Will it fill back in over time, or did they overdo it? Would appreciate opinions from anyone experienced with Japanese maples or ornamental tree pruning. submitted by /u/Therealbrie to r/landscaping [link] [comments]

Have a very large Japanese maple, looking for advice.
Hi arborists, looking for some guidance here, we bought this place in 2019 and it had some pre existing landscaping. All of it very poorly maintained. Not to say I’m the greenest thumb out there, but I do what I can. That said, this thing is huge, probably 10-12’ diameter, a big lad. My wife would like to get rid of it, I don’t want to do that if it’s a capital sin. I want to know what the prospects of transplanting it would be, and how we can best maintain or cut it back. Essentially it blocks off a lot of the house view to the street and it’s a little too in the way at this point. Anyhow I’m rambling, any thoughts here arborists? submitted by /u/blakemaurer to r/arborists [link] [comments]

Grandma finished her Japanese Maple Tree
My grandmother has been around myself and her 2 great grandkids and decided she wanted to try one and she’s always loved Bonsai-like trees but think she’d kill a real one, so this was the next best thing. She kept putting it off but with some pushing she finished it and she’s absolutely loving it! She stood and admired it for 3 straight minutes when finished and I love her joy! This has been a fun watching her with only minor help (She had some issues with the bases corners). She now looks to it on her coffee table and smiles and will be here centerpiece for thanksgiving! submitted by /u/PrinceGK to r/lego [link] [comments]

Japanese maple got butchered. Is there any hope for it?
My sister had a family friend come over to do a bunch of yard work. This is what he did to the Japanese maple and she is absolutely distraught. A lot of other things were discussed but doing this was absolutely not. No clue what he was thinking, my sister is in tears and so upset and he is just saying that it will grow back. Do you think it ever will? I feel so bad. It definitely needed a trim but he absolutely butchered it. I hate Japanese Maples and I'm going to rant about it
Probably unpopular opinion and very ranty, but... I don't understand the love for Japanese Maples. They're an ecologically useless, non-native tree that is planted by the billions. They can look decent, but I've never been struck by the beauty of one. So many of us advocate for ecologically important natives, but I feel like I'm the only Japanese Maple hater. Seems like everyone just turns a blind eye to them. I roll my eyes at every single one of the thousand Japanese Maple posts I see daily. I just don't get it. I feel the same about foreign ornamental cherries, Kousa Dogwoods and crabapples too. Someone just explain it to me. Why is everyone in the world just absolutely clamoring to get their hands on a Japanese Maple?! Plant a plum, a serviceberry, a native crabapple, SOMETHING other than YET ANOTHER red Japanese Maple. Am I alone?! I know I need to calm tf down lol submitted by /u/Glispie to r/marijuanaenthusiasts [link] [comments]

Neighbor put in a new fence and cut down two of my trees as well as ripped out the plants surrounding it in the process. One was a 15-17 ft dogwood, the other was a 4ft dwarf Japanese maple. How to proceed? Surveyor confirmed it was my land. Several hydrangeas and hostas gone too. Livid.

What type of Japanese maple is this?
So I’m considering removing this tree. It’s beautiful but I’ve had it trimmed twice in the last 7 years but it just takes up the entirety of our house. I’ve been told it’s worth a lot if I had a buyer. Talked to 1 tree farm nearby and said 25k+ but wouldn’t buy it unless they had a buyer lined up as the digging out process is very labor intensive. So. Thoughts? Best way to sell or get rid or it or am I crazy? submitted by /u/Burrito2525 to r/arborists [link] [comments]

Thinking about removing this Japanese maple
As title says. Previous owners told me they moved it around a few times and it’s worth “thousands of dollars”. My understanding is that at this point I won’t be able to relocate it again. It is large and blocks our view of the yard and surrounding woods. My thought is to put a fire pit in its place. My family would enjoy sitting around a fire more and we’d have a better view of the expand of our yard. Am I crazy? Is this really a special tree? submitted by /u/whysayitagain to r/arborists [link] [comments]

What to do with this Japanese Maple against the house?
I bought this house a couple of years ago and it has this beautiful Japanese Maple tree which unfortunately has overgrown it's space. I've only trimmed a little bit in fear of accidentally taking too much off, but it still pokes out over the sidewalk and hits the house. I'm also somewhat worried about the roots damaging the foundation of the garage which is less than 2 feet away. I'm looking for suggestions on the best course of action, since I like the tree and so does everyone that sees it, but I'm starting to get tired of having to lean out of the way every time I enter or exit the front door. submitted by /u/presidentofmax to r/landscaping [link] [comments]
