So people want the North border of GTA 6's map to just look like this and go on forever instead of the traditional island design huh?
idk bout that Chief. I personally like the island design. There'll be lots of underwater secrets and mysteries to explore, rather than endlessly procedurally generated swathes of landscape. Both are "unimmersive", so to speak, but the endless waters allows for Rockstar to add cool underwater content, which offers the player more unique content than just a bland terrain. submitted by /u/RogerRoger63358 to r/GTA6 [link] [comments]

This is a French drain, named not after landscaping in France but because the design was first created by US man whose last name was French. Is there a similarly seemingly-foreign-but-not thing in your country?
French drains consist of a shallow trench lined with gravel or rocks. They're used for the purpose of directing water away from building foundations. Henry Flagg French, who first devised this type of drain, was President of Massachusetts Agricultural College. There's been no way of crediting him without creating the impression they originate from France. Curious whether there's something which creates a similar confusion in your country (without being some company's marketing gimmick). submitted by /u/doublestitch to r/AskTheWorld [link] [comments]

New AI Landscape Design tool. Would love your honest feedback.
I run a real-life landscape design company, and noticed over the past 3 years that most consumers could no longer afford our services. Between material and insurance inflation, most homeowners were being priced out of professional landscape design. As AI started improving I figured there would be a ton of AI landscape design tools that would fill this need. But most AI tools did not account for a users hardiness zone, sunlight conditions, or recommend local native plants. About a year ago I began working on this app, and it is now finally ready to be shared with the world. As more users subscribe I aim to increase the number of generations in the free tier, but there is still lots a free user can do with the add plants and magic erase tools. Would appreciate feedback, especially negative feedback, to keep improving this tool and make landscape design more accessible to everyone. submitted by /u/GreenGardenGremlin to r/landscaping [link] [comments]

My progress as a landscape designer
I graduated (arch BA) one year ago and started working as the only designer at a full service landscape firm. Here’s some of my progress since then :) With all the time that went into refined boards and esthetic presentation during architecture school, I hoped to bring some depth to our drawings - the company previously used autoCAD with some hatching. I did research on different landscape software and RhinoLands seemed to be the closest to what I had in mind. After using it for a few projects, I found I did most of the rendering for plans/elevations via Rhino(patch a polyline>decal>insert Pinterest watercolor/texture photos). Some of the RhinoLand features haven’t been as smooth as advertised so I’m thinking of sticking with a mixture of autoCAD, Rhino, and Illustrator. AutoCAD has been the only reliable program for construction plans so it stays and the main thing RhinoLands contributed were plant decals and elevation foliage, which I can make in Rhino and start a personal library :) If anyone’s had any luck with RhinoLands or another secret landscape software pls let me in lol I still have much learning to do and ideas for future drawings but I’m loving the shift to textures v hatches and overall detail! (Also the first photo is a first draft design so any critics are much appreciated - designing both courtyard and pool house) submitted by

The house of a dreams!
Located in the hills of #Heraklion, #Crete, this project, designed by @mykonosarchitects, harmonizes with its olive tree-covered surroundings, using the site’s natural slope and slim shape as design guides. A 15-meter setback regulation and the elongated plot inspired a slender, wedge-shaped structure that integrates into the terrain. The design features three walls following the land’s contours, enclosing living spaces and pathways. A staircase leads below ground to living areas, while an external staircase connects sleeping quarters to an open space with a pool at the structure’s tip, serving as its focal point. Large openings frame views, provide ventilation, and connect indoor and outdoor spaces, while shading ensures comfort. Constructed with sustainable, on-site rammed earth, the building minimizes environmental impact, regulates indoor temperatures, and blends naturally with the landscape, ensuring durability and low maintenance. submitted by /u/CG_17_LIFE to r/BeAmazed [link] [comments]

Is $2k too much to pay for a landscape design plan?
We live on a .3 acre lot. It is fully landscaped, but we want to add a small pool, a fence, new plants, remove some grass and convert to garden bed, flip our park strip from grass to plants, etc. A designer/horticulturist quoted $2000 for a plan. There are some other companies that are around $500-$1000, but I think the process is a bit quicker with them and they may not pay as much attention to which plants do well in which spaces, etc. I'm just wondering if $2k seems like way too much for what I'm wanting since I don't need to add any retaining walls or structures other than the pool. submitted by /u/Cablab123 to r/landscaping [link] [comments]

Contractor is saying I cant photograph a yard I designed as a landscape architect or he will sue me
A landscape contractor brought me onto a project. This contractor had the design and build contract with the client. He paid me as the landscape architect to do the design. I have 10-20 emails of me to him sending him the designs that have my company name, logo and a note that says designed by: myname. Well I found out the contractor has been removing my logo and my name from my designs and presenting the designs as his own work to clients. Although he missed a few and the client does have copies of the design with my name and logo on it. I explained this to one of the clients, and he said I could come photograph the yard as I should be able to show off my work. While I was photographing the yard, the contractor happend to drive by the house and saw my truck. He entered the property without permission and proceeded to scream at me while we were photographing the yard. He said If I post the photos on my website or social media he will sue me to take them down and for "damages", whatever that means. He said because he had the design and build contract with the client, he would win in court. Even though I have all these emails showing its my design, and the client allowed me into the yard to photograph the yard for my website. I'm a younger landscape architect and these photos would really help my portfolio. submitted by /u/CheddarCheesasaurus to r/legaladvice [link] [comments]

First time designing/landscaping. Any glaring issues?
Bought our first house and redid everything. While I’m familiar with some interior design, I’d never tried my hand at landscape design. In an attempt to reduce the amount of water usage (that’s Southern California living for you), I ended up coming up with this idea of splitting the yard by the path to create a drought tolerant/low maintenance side. I wanted to get rid of the old panel design underneath the windows but couldn’t find new siding to match the original (it was a weird shape/cut), so I added stacked stone there and we created a planter box around the whole front of the house. Added the fencing (was recommended red balau from a lumber guy) to help keep the kids somewhat contained, and went crazy trying to research what kind of plants and how many/where to plant. I’ve always wanted a willow but found out they’re super invasive, EXCEPT for Australian willows so I went with that. Can’t wait for that to grow into a big tree (in 5 years). Also ended up redoing the porch with black limestone and grabbed an antique double rocker to finish it out (also replaced the front door and siding of course). My wife loves it but I’m always second guessing myself and open to learning/getting better. Any glaring issues you experts see? (I’ll say in hindsight I wish we went with a darker red paver for the path and that the stacked stone was a little less warm). Either way, relieved and grateful it’s done! submitted by /u/kindacool22 to r/landscaping [link] [comments]

Is paying a landscape designer worth it?
I had a free hour consultation Saturday with a landscaping company. This involved the owner walking with me around my front and back yard talking about various options, most of which I already had in mind. She finished by showing me a portfolio of landscaping projects that are likely well out of my price range. She said she could write up all of the plans and give me all the info I need for the project for $850. Being that I’m on a tight budget for this, and will likely be doing most of the work myself, I’m trying to decide whether a layout/landscaping plan is worth the money or not. This seemed like it was more useful if I was contracting the work out? Thanks for the help submitted by /u/HighSierraGuy to r/landscaping [link] [comments]
