Tide actually works on stains. That part is true. But the smell is completely gone by next morning. Gain smells incredible in the store. Get it home, run a load, smell is just gone. No idea where it goes?? Arm and Hammer is fine. Just fine. Nothing more to say. Seventh Generation slowly turned all the whites gray. Might take months to notice. But you won’t unsee it after you do. Store brand left this weird residue on dark clothes. Still not sure I found the ‘one’. Heard about laundry stripping. Thought it was a tiktok thing for people with too much time. It's not. You fill a bathtub with hot water, add borax, washing soda and powdered detergent. Let your towels and sheets soak for four hours. The water turns brown. Like actually brown. From laundry you thought was clean. Towels came out softer than they've been in years. No stiffness or weird smell. Started wondering after if the detergent you use day to day affects how much builds up in the first place. Like if you're using a detergent that doesn't fully rinse clean, it just sits in the fabric until you strip it out. Is that why the water was that color. I’m on a mission to find a laundry detergent that actually cleans but is still non-toxic/clean because my skin is super sensitive. So far I’ve tried Molly’s Suds, ECOS, Tide (definitely reacted to that), adding vinegar to the rinse cycle, borax, etc. I’m not a stinky person and I even wash my clothes separately from my boyfriend’s work clothes (and regular clothes) to avoid odor transfer, but somehow my clothes still smell exactly like they did before washing?? Like they were never cleaned. Powders don’t seem to work well for me (I’m guessing they lack enzymes to break down oils?), but the “cleaner” liquid detergents I’ve tried don’t actually remove smells or buildup either. I also have a ridiculously strong sense of smell, so I notice everything. At this point I’m super discouraged and would love recommendations— even enzyme boosters I could add. No, you did not accidentally click on r/bicyclingcirclejerk. Me and the boys set out to do a century this weekend. 5 miles in and it started to pour rain. Soon after, my buddy tells me that I was "foaming". I wondered if this was some cycling term I was unaware of. Nope, I was literally foaming. Apparently one Tide Pod on a gentle cycle is too much soap. These are Assos bibs with a very thick pad that essentially acted as a sponge. For the first 50 miles soap continued to pour out. At one point I became legitimately concerned that I'd get soap on my disc breaks. There were some pretty good downhills on this ride and it was very wet. Fortunately, the bathroom at the gas station at the 50 mile mark was the kind where the whole room locks. Here I am, naked in a gas station bathroom wringing out my cycling bibs in the sink and contemplating all of my previous life choices up to this point. I'm still in disbelief about how much soap I could squeeze out of the bibs before the water ran clear. We set back out and the final 50 miles were uneventful. Not so much brand, but type. There's liquid, there's powder, and pods, and sheets, tablets... is there a kind that yields best results while also being the least expensive or cost effective? Does it even matter that much? I have a family of 4 (2 young kids) and have been using liquid for a while but considering what to buy next. Convenience is also a factor. I saw Episode 1 in theaters 3 times, I was enthralled, I had an almost complete set that was mint. It was sitting under a jug of unopened laundry detergent that apparently had a small crack in it and leaked directly into this container over a period of weeks. My childhood took a big loss today. My fiancé and I recently bought a house together, we got basic things from his family, as house warming gifts. His grandmother gifted us a huge package of laundry detergent. Now here is where the problem starts: I am and I used to be highly allergic against most laundry detergents. I am not talking about some uncomfortable itchieness or whatever, but vomiting, diarrhea, losing my eyesight temporarily and at the end my consciousness. I have been hospitalized for this multiple times already. We are using 2 brands, I am not allergic against. He keeps complaining, that they don't smell that good. Which might be true, they aren't really fragrant and I know he used to drown his clothes in fabric softener, to make them smell nice. I offered to slowly start trying new laundry detergents, because he keeps complaining and those two aren't easily accessible in his home country, but definitely not in the foreseeable future, as I am 8 months pregnant and very afraid of the possible consequences. (We still have more than enough, of the safe ones.) He agreed and I thought the topic was done, but then his brother gifted us babyclothes, my fiancé kept commenting how good they smelled and how badly he wants our clothes to smell like this. I sorted through them and after I was around halfway done, I noticed, that I felt kinda off, my hands felt weird, my body felt wrong, so I washed every bodypart that touched those clothes and refused to touch them without gloves. (My fiancé bought them for me!!!) So he definitely knows, that I am still allergic against some detergents. Well, he still decided to use the gifted laundry detergent on our towels, I didn't notice until I started folding them and putting them away. My hands started to get hot and kind of numb/itchy. At first I was afraid that I am now allergic against one of the safe ones, until I noticed the gifted one was opened and kind of shoved into a corner. Our other two are also opened and readily available, I just don't get it. I texted him and asked, if he used the gifted laundry detergent for anything. He said "yes, what's the big deal?" I told him that that's not funny and he is potentially playing with the life of our unborn son and mine and why he thought, that now of all times, is the right time to test my allergy again. He called me a drama queen and ignored me after. So I changed my will. My fiancé gets nothing now, neither my part of the house nor my other assets. Everything goes to my son, with my family as trustees, until he is of age. If something were to happen to both my son and me, my cousins will be the sole inheritors. My fiancé was originally meant to be the trustee, with different guidelines, to make my sons life and his pretty comfortable. I trashed the old will, sent the new version to my lawyer, to make him look over it and plan to get it to a notary as soon as possible.
