TRIGGER WARNING: piss jar Original Post March 14, 2013 I've been with my boyfriend for 2 years and we've been living together for the past few months. Now, generally I've come to accept him for being a 'guy' and not cleaning up after himself. He has got a lot better at it though so I'll give him that. Anyway, this morning I went downstairs as usual to clean up a bit and when I went to pick up the remote off the floor I noticed a white mcdonalds cup sitting next to the chair. Thinking it was just a left over drink I went to go dump it in the sink only to realize that there was piss in the cup. I'm not sure how long it was sitting behind the chair but it smelled REALLY bad. It was pretty much full with ashes at the bottom of it [he smokes]. I don't really know how to go about talking to him about this or how to even bring it up. Advice anyone? tl;dr Found boyfriends piss cup behind a chair in the living room. Cigarettes will leave a clear liquid yellow, and it would definitely smell bad. Are you sure that he urinated in it and it wasn't just his ashtray? Update - rareddit March 15, 2013 (Next Day) So an update from my [original post]( First I just want to say thank you for all the helpful responses that I received yesterday. I've never in my life had to deal with a situation like this. I also hope it is the last time as well. As soon as he got home from work this morning I told him that we needed to have a serious conversation. We both sat down and I told him that I found the cup he had been pissing in behind the chair. That it was the most disgusting thing I had ever seen and I was repulsed that he would actually do something like that when we have a perfectly working bathroom upstairs. He started to actually DEFEND himself as to why he was using it! I tried to stay calm but I couldn't anymore and eventually it turned into a heated argument. He stated that the cup was easier to use than going upstairs to use our bathroom which is seriously 30 ft away!! And he usually dumps it in the KITCHEN SINK when he's finished.. W.T.F. That right there was a deal breaker for me. This has been going on for quite some time. Upon further inspection where I originally found the cup I could clearly see urine stains on the floor. How I didn't know about this sooner I don't know. But I'm really glad that I do now. I can't continue to live with this sick fuck any longer. I'll be moving my things out today and will be staying with a friend for the time being. TL;DR Boyfriend defended himself about using his piss cup instead of going to the bathroom like a normal person. He had been doing it for some time now. We broke up and I'm moving out. We just got settled into our new house, luckily we didn't have to buy anything new for the living room, yet something doesn't feel right. My theory is that the chairs are the problem. I plan on reupholstering the white chair and ottoman. Is it that chair making the room feel wrong or is it something else? What color and type of fabric would you use for the white chair? If something else looks off what is it? I do know the pillows and blankets aren't great and can edit those but they don't feel like the main problem. Edit: Thank you all for your thoughts. I’m sorry I can no longer keep up with replying to everyone. Here are my take aways so far. - The grey rug is pretty unpopular. It’s one of the items I’m trying not to replace just because it will cost more. - Lack of texture and warmth. I will work on accent pillows, throws, incorporating more wood tones, change lamp shades or the lamps all together. - More color and personalization, this will be hard because we like grey and black lol - Considering art pieces above fireplace or glass sliding doors -The coffee table is too small for the space. It does appear that way, part of the problem is I pulled the chairs further away to get them more off the rug since I have a dog that was peeing on them. I would love to replace the coffee table with an large leather ottoman/ table thing I’ll continue to read your feedback and eventually update with new pictures of changes. However long that takes me. We moved into a new home recently and I am really not happy with how our living room looks. It feels bland, outdated and unfinished. The sofa is a light green but I feel like the coolness of the color with the overhead lights makes it look gray which I hate. The other areas of our house have warmer colors with brass hardware and and green accents and this feels out of place. My thoughts on what might help so far are: -Lamps, but I have been looking for months and can’t decide. -New accent chairs that are curved / round to soften the space, preferably in a darker colour (we have a small child). Maybe in a caramel or rich brown? -Blanket and new throw pillows. -New pot for the snake plant or move the whole thing. -New dining room table, but not sure what would look good. -New art for above the fireplace, but not sure what would look good. The art on the frametv is easy to swap. Unfortunately we don’t have the budget to do renovations right now so we are probably limited to changing up the decor. My Lundby is full, and I don't have another dollhouse yet, so I displayed some of my 1:12 MCM minis on my bookshelf. As I was arranging this yesterday, I dropped one of the tulip chairs, and it snapped at the base. 😭😭 Praying to the cyanoacrylate gods that I can glue it back together. The books are all real life titles. Hey all! I’ve finally hung art in my living room, and figured it was time to get some feedback. I don’t feel nearly done, but I do feel good about the vibe in general. This is the first time I’ve lived alone (I’m 37). My previous roommate (male) was all about that pristine MCM life, whereas I like more of a ‘70s kitsch maximalist look. In short, after years of Eames chairs and Op Art, I pretty much went insane once I realized I could do literally anything I wanted. And so I did, no holds barred. Half of the furniture is from Amazon, because I’m broke, and everything else is thrifted, gifted, and/or found over these past couple decades. I recently moved to a small town in the PNW from Brooklyn, and gotta say, I’m pretty addicted to all of the weird thrifting one can do out here in these cute little seaside towns. I’m 100% open to feedback! Except about the fruit lamp. I’m very, very aware that it is revolting (and yes, I DIY’d that lampshade as the effed up pièce de résistance), but it belonged to my faux-fruit-obsessed grandmother, and it makes me smile every time I look at it. I (21NB) live with my mom and stepfather. My room is messy, largely because I lack proper storage for my books and belongings. I also keep my door open for my cat, Boris, as his food, water, and litter box are in my room. The issue is my stepsister’s visits with her 1-year-old daughter, Allie (fake name). Allie loves Boris, but he is clearly uncomfortable with her loud, eager approaches and always runs away. Since he retreats to my room, she follows him in there. Allie touches everything, grabbing trinkets, going for my plushies (many are expensive, limited edition, or deeply sentimental), and risking damage to my school laptop or textbooks. I’m worried she’ll break something or choke. I’ve repeatedly told my family I don’t want Allie in my room. My mom dismisses me, saying I should just clean my room, which is difficult without proper storage. There’s hypocrisy, too; she warns me to keep Allie away from Boris’ blankets due to cat hair, but has no issue with her rolling on my fur-covered bed. Once, I closed my door to create a safe space for Boris and protect my things. Allie cried because she couldn’t get to the cat, and my mom acted like I was being cruel. The final straw was a mealtime incident. Allie constantly tests boundaries by putting her feet on the table. I calmly told her if she did it again, I’d move her chair. She did, so I followed through, pulling her high chair back so her feet couldn’t reach. She cried. Later, my mom criticized my “attitude,” saying I should have “at least smiled” to make it seem nicer. I disagree; I believe discipline should be calm and consistent, not turned into a game. Now I’m being painted as the bad guy for setting boundaries. I don’t hate Allie; I just want to protect my cat and my possessions. Am I the asshole for trying to set a boundary? Edit: I should probably clarify that my room is messy in the sense that my things are untidy on my desk, and bedside tables. The floor is mostly clean as I do vaccum clean it to try and not build up litter that Boris spreads, and the bedsheets are changed every two weeks. I am 21 and still in high school, yes, I got held back and changed courses a few times, this is my last year of high school (it's also common for young legal adults to be still taking classes/finishing their studies in high school) After getting paid from my internship I will look into shelves and ways to properly store my things. Edit 2: I should probably clarify that Allie isn't just one year old, really closer to two at the time I posted this.
