magnesium citrate vs stimulant laxatives
Hello. I have suffered from constipation and bloating for the past 2 yrs after anorexia, and have been prescribed 3x 5mg bisacodyl and 2x senna max strength per day, split between the evening and morning, however i still find i dont fully empty and am still constipated. I've tried psylium husk but have stopped as i think if i'm not properly going to the toilet/emptying it will just make my constipation worse? With my current stimulants i find i have multiple eg 8 rounds of small diarreah per day but can never a full empty. Is it worth switching to magnesium citrate instead, maybe 1x 350mg in the evening, or maybe try something else? (My dr is away for a few weeks so i cannot see them till they return and am beginning to get very desperate!) Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks! submitted by /u/witty_kitty88 to r/Constipation [link] [comments]

Magnesium Citrate Blessed Me
M20 have been feeling more and more bloated over the past week or so, last normal bowel movement being 8 days ago. Tried an enema and took Miralax, neither helped much. Woke up with back pain today and decided to get a bottle of magnesium citrate from Walgreens after work. Holy shit. Had small movement 30 minutes later but the 2 hour mark was when it started gushing out. Definitely planning on upping my daily fiber and water intake going forward and will try to go for a walk after every meal. submitted by /u/Appropriate-Fig-1317 to r/Constipation [link] [comments]

Magnesium citrate helped one issue but created another. Anyone else?
I added magnesium citrate to my routine mainly for muscle tension and sleep. I actually noticed improvements there, especially with nighttime restlessness. What I didn’t expect was how strong the digestive effect would be. It’s not necessarily bad, just something I definitely had to adjust to. Now I’m experimenting with lower doses and spacing it out instead of taking it daily. For those who take magnesium citrate long-term: How did you dial in your dose? Did your body eventually adapt? Did you stick with citrate or switch to another form? submitted by /u/Guscioni-Mibida to r/magnesium [link] [comments]

Companies can't even give us proper Magnesium Citrate!!
1) First one is Nutrija's Magnesium Citrate. It says 500 mg Magnesium in each capsule. There is 11.2% elemental Magnesium in magnesium citrate, or 16.2% in trimagnesium dicitrate (which may also labeled as magnesium citrate). So, on a minimum side, there has to be 3 grams in each capsule!!! Impossible! Brand don't even know what they are selling! 2) Second one is Biotrex, claiming 35% Magnesium. Again impossible, as pointed out above, there can be 11.2% elemental Magnesium in magnesium citrate, or 16.2% in trimagnesium dicitrate. Other brands are like Carbamide Forte, Healthy Hey, Himalayan Organics etc, which I don't even care to check, would stay away from them forever. And then there is Tata 1mg, which has magnesium oxide in magnesium supplement 🤦🏾. (Magnesium Citrate is next best after Magnesium Glycinate. And it's market is already messed up by buffered or fake ones.) submitted by /u/Ambitionless_Nihil to r/Fitness_India [link] [comments]

I hate Magnesium Citrate
5 days ago, I was constipated. It seemed as though anything I had tried wasn't working, until my aunt informed me to try Magnesium Citrate. She warned me to "be careful because it'll really make you poop." Dear reader, that was the understatement of the century. I took 4 Fl Oz, just under the daily recommend dose for an adult. After 30 minutes, my bowels started moving again. Horray, right? No. No, that was the start of my agony. For the past 29 hours, I have constantly had to run to the bathroom to relieve myself, almost every 20 minutes. This is what I expect my personal Hell is like, to be condemed to forever sit upon a cold, porcelain throne while life goes on around me. I'm scared to eat, I can barely sleep, and doing most daily tasks is difficult. "Luckily" it seems to be easing up, but I'm constantly dogged by what one post about it taught me: "You don't get to decide when you're done with Magnesium Citrate. IT decides when it's done with YOU" Tl;dr: if you wanna RP the God Emperor of Mankind, but on a toilet instead of a golden throne, take some Magnesium Citrate! submitted by /u/Pokewho to r/Vent [link] [comments]

took magnesium citrate at 1pm. i’m terrified.
hello. i’m gonna cut to the chase. i suffer from chronic constipation. not really sure why, especially seeing as how i’m a vegetarian. anyway, not the point. it started getting really bad again a few weeks ago, and this week was my final straw. i made the (probably bad) decision to surf reddit and all the stories people have posted about their experiences with magnesium citrate and how they practically blew up their house. so, i had my boyfriend go to the store and at 1pm i drank approximately 8oz. of the bottle (per my doctor’s recommendation). it’s currently 2:26 and just felt the first rumble. probably will keep everyone updated on how i’m handling it all, maybe i won’t be able to. we’ll see. keep me in your thoughts. -severely constipated girl update: 3:13pm- yoooo😭😭😭 that’s all i have to say. submitted by /u/spritualstoner to r/Constipation [link] [comments]

How bad is magnesium citrate?
How bad is magnesium citrate? Does it cause diarrhea to everyone? Does it affect the poor of everyone? Are the majority of people with normal poop after taking it or it always have laxative effect? Would 1250mg magnesium citrate from which 200mg are magnesium cause me to have bad poop or that dose is too low to affect my poop at all? What food can I eat that will just give me explosive diarrhea?
I haven’t had a normal shit in like 3 weeks and I’m bloated and just not feeling great. Everytime I have to shit almost nothing comes out. It looks like the shit of a 10 pound cat. For context I’m 24, I work out everyday, drink plenty of water, and eat a relatively healthy diet. I’ve tried laxatives and they didn’t work so I’m hoping there is some magical fruit or plant out there that will make me empty the 10 pounds in my bowels. Thanks UPDATE: I called my Dr. a few hours before I made this post. He surprisingly called me back about 45 minutes ago and told me to go get 4 bottles of magnesium citrate and drink one every hour or until something happens. And if nothing happens then to call him in the morning. That’s what I am going to do so you guys can stop spamming the comments telling me to go to the ER right now. Thank you for all the recommendations. Tonight I drank pickle juice, had magnesium citrate, ate Taco Bell for dinner, ate sugar free candy, took a fiber supplement, and have drank lots and lots of water. I’m currently preparing myself to inevitably break the world record for largest shit ever. Cheers UPDATE 2: 06:13 am PST. Holy fucking shit. I went to sleep depressed last night thinking I would never enjoy taking a shit again but boy was I wrong. I’ve been awake for two hours now and I’ve just been making back and forth trips to the bathroom to piss out of my ass. Like seriously you would have guessed that I ate diarrhea for dinner last night. I think it was the magnesium citrate that finally did the trick but I’m sure everything else I tried played just as an important role. Sadly I do not have a scale so I was unable to get a before and after weight like many of you asked but I look smaller and my bloating has gone down a significant amount. I’m hoping I have a few more bathroom trips to look forward to in the next few hours but thanks everyone for all your suggestions and for coming along for this wild ride with me. submitted by /u/Responsible-Unit1475 to r/TooAfraidToAsk [link] [comments]

TIFU by drinking magnesium citrate and accidentally opening the gates of anal hell
I 16m have had anxiety induced stomach problems my whole live and frequent bouts of continuation. Over the last 5 months following a med change I have had a number of GI problems so my doctor suggested I try magnesium citrate before considering lab tests. For those who don’t know magnesium citrate is a high strength laxative that is used to clear you out prior to colonoscopies or a number of medical procedures. Well I didn’t consider the downsides of this and slammed a bottle at 10 o clock this morning. Starting at noon my body, shortly after making noise that sounds like a ferry boats horn and terrible stomach cramps proceeded to have on and off vertical spray of fire. It’s been 8 hours and as typing this my ass is raw and probably bleeding, and my stomach is gurgling which has me scared there may be another round of dragons fire. Tl;dr slammed a bottle of magnesium citrate and have now lost a day of my life to molten fire ass, and it isn’t over yet. Edit: morning after and the lava has stopped flowing but I have an insane amount of gas submitted by /u/Ephru_ to r/tifu [link] [comments]

Magnesium Citrate - My Story
First off, this unassuming bottle should come with a Black Label Warning. And everything that follows, I would do again to get things moving. If you’re stopped up, magnesium citrate just be right for you. My bowels have been blocked up like a buffet after church let’s out in the Southeastern United States. Nothing had moved in a day or so. Needing to feel the sweet relief of defecation, I decided that the best thing I could do would to chug a bottle of Cherry flavored Magnesium Citrate (Thanks for the tip, fellow Redditors.) The flavor wasn’t awful, but it was clear that this wasn’t going to be fun from the first sip. After downing ONLY HALF of the Magnesium Citrate and then chasing it with a full bottle of water, I waited. I knew it would take 30 minutes or so, so I started to clean up the house. 90 minutes in, the bubble guts started. I sounded like my diet consisted of beans and cabbage. The sounds coming from my rectum emulated an old dirtbike. The pressure was starting to subside and I thought maybe it was just gas. Never think “it’s just gas” with MagCit. It NOT “just gas” with this stuff. About 2 hours after taking it, I went to let out what I believed was a well-built butt rumble, and ended up needing new pants… and socks… and dignity. For the next 4 hours, I couldn’t leave the immediate vicinity of my porcelain throne. About every 5-10 minutes, the urge to push came on hard and fast. I could barely get myself seated when the plug was pulled and waterfalls of rancid poopwater poured from my butt. The force at which this liquid fire came out of me would be impressive to every maker of pressure washer. It. Was. Never. Ending. I pooped the sandwich I had yesterday, the steak I had last week, and the burrito I had when I was 10 along with everything else I have ever eaten. Im pretty sure I’ve pooped everything my parents and grandparents ever ate as well. It won’t stop. It burns. The toilet paper feels like I’m using a slice of Carolina Reaper on my ring-of-fire. Every squirt feels like liquid Hot Sauce passing through. I’m shaking. I’m sweating. I want to curl up in the fetal position but fear that would send explosive colon-spray all over the walls at speeds unattainable by NASA. It’s been 12 hours and I don’t have anything left to give. Or so I thought. And after the last few days, I wouldn’t change a thing and I do not regret using this bottle of poo-inducer. submitted by /u/BigKSizz to r/Constipation [link] [comments]

TIFU by Not Realizing I Had an Extreme Magnesium Deficiency for 5 Years.
Over the past few years, I haven’t been able to focus. I had resigned that there was something wrong with me: probably an old head injury, cancer, new onset of autism, too much tiktok, unchecked ADHD or some other mental illness that would never get fixed. About 5 years ago, I was prescribed amphetamines and even went to a therapist that treated the issue as anxiety and learning to live with what I was experiencing through mindfulness. It has only been getting worse after 5 years, so I just resigned myself that I was going to die soon and learned to live like this for years while just coping the best I can. This got even worse just recently when I had a seizure while I was waking up in the morning. My focus been gradually going to shit with me lacking even the most basic ability to follow movies or what people were saying to me in conversation. I even worked with someone that would once told me “I don’t know if there’s something in your head that the words don’t catch...” but she was right. I couldn’t even follow the most basic ability to listen to others or read paragraphs from a page while retaining the main idea. The other day, during my morning coffee routine, I decided to take a magnesium citrate vitamin that I found in the medicine cabinet just for fun since it mentioned nervous system support on the bottle. I cannot begin to tell you the un-fucking-believable difference that happened in under 6 hours. It felt like someone rewired my brain into functioning again. 5 years of brain fog is nearly completely gone. I can follow conversations and follow what is being written down like I did 5 years ago. I did the same thing again today and I feel mentally healthier than I’ve been in over half a decade. I have a new outlook on life just because I curiously rummaged through the pill cabinet. TL;DR: Resigned myself to dying young, but then I fixed 5 years worth of worsening focus with a magnesium citrate vitamin. *EDIT: please consult a doctor first if you think you are going through something similar. There are many possible reasons for poor focus. Also, magnesium overdosing is a thing, so don’t rush to the drugstore to down a bottle. *EDIT2: Here is what I swallowed for anyone wondering. and the front page? Hi mom! *EDIT3: (UPDATE: 24 days after this post). I’ve been taking magnesium, vitamin D, D3, and a daily men’s multivitamin intermittently over the last 24 days. After a screening, it turns out that the only outstanding issue presently identified clinically was a Vitamin B12 deficiency, surprisingly. I could have potentially fixed a magnesium deficiency since I felt so much better after taking the vitamins over the last 24 days, but I will never know for sure since I was supplementing while I had to wait 3+ weeks to get tested. It seems more likely that the initial magnesium dose I took in this post had other psychological effects or was entirely placebo to begin with. I have to go and supplement B12 for a while before I update this thread again with more tests in 3+ months. submitted by /u/DontWreckYosef to r/tifu [link] [comments]
