Stanford Just Discovered a “Natural Ozempic” Molecule That Cuts Appetite By 50% With None Of The Side Effects. And AI Found It By Scanning All 20,000 Human Genes 🦠
Stanford Medicine researchers published a study in Nature identifying a naturally occurring 12-amino-acid peptide called BRP that mimics Ozempic’s appetite-suppressing effects through an entirely different biological pathway. In animal studies, a single injection reduced food intake by up to 50% within one hour. Over 14 days of daily injections in diet-induced obese mice, treated animals lost an average of 3 grams of fat while untreated mice gained 3 grams during the same period, with accompanying improvements in glucose and insulin tolerance. Results were also replicated in minipigs, a model considered more predictive of human metabolic response than rodents, with no adverse effects observed. The reason BRP avoids side effects common to semaglutide is architectural. Semaglutide’s GLP-1 receptors are distributed across the gut, pancreas, and multiple other tissues, producing bodywide effects beyond appetite suppression. BRP appears to act specifically in the hypothalamus, the brain region responsible for appetite and metabolic regulation, meaning its signal stays targeted rather than broadcasting system-wide. The molecule produced a tenfold stronger neuron activation response in lab-grown brain cells compared to GLP-1, suggesting it may be a more potent signal within its specific pathway even at a fraction of the molecular size. The discovery was made possible by an AI tool the team built called Peptide Predictor. Traditional lab methods cannot efficiently distinguish rare signaling peptides from the thousands of inactive protein fragments produced during normal cellular activity. Peptide Predictor scanned all 20,000 human protein-coding genes, identified 2,683 candidate peptides, and narrowed the field to 100 for lab testing, with BRP emerging as the standout signal. Lead author Katrin Svensson has co-founded Merrifield Therapeutics to advance BRP toward human clinical trials, though no timeline has been confirmed and no human safety data yet exists. submitted by /u/InterstellarKinetics to r/InterstellarKinetics [link] [comments]

New studies show the digestive system can naturally do what Ozempic does
Researchers shows the body has a natural way to do what Ozempic, does. Scientists discovered a natural alternative to Ozempic, and it's made inside of your body, right in your gut, with the help of certain bacteria and what you eat. Two new studies suggest that your digestive system might be able to do what weight-loss drugs like Ozempic do, without any injections or prescriptions. Researchers found that when specific gut bacteria get the right fuel, they can help the body release a hormone that controls blood sugar and hunger. One study showed that eating foods rich in an amino acid called tryptophan, which is found in things like eggs, cheese, and turkey, can help spark a process in the gut that leads to more of this hunger-controlling hormone being made. This could be a big deal, especially for people who struggle with weight or diabetes, because their bodies often don’t produce enough of it on their own. In another study, scientists focused on a certain type of gut bacteria that seemed to quiet sugar cravings and improve blood sugar levels in mice. When this bacteria was increased, the mice craved less sugar and showed signs of better metabolism. The same bacteria also seemed to send signals to the body to make helpful hormones that naturally keep appetite and blood sugar in check. In people, early signs suggest that those with lower levels of this bacteria or certain gut-related genes may crave more sugar and have a higher risk of diabetes. The idea is that if scientists can figure out how to boost these bacteria and the good stuff they produce, through food, supplements, or probiotics, it might be possible to mimic the effects of Ozempic in a completely natural way. submitted by /u/soulpost to r/HotScienceNews [link] [comments]

Anyone have any natural alternatives to Ozempic/Wegovvy?
I'm very close to hopping on the semaglutide train, but I'm hesitant because (and this is no shade to anyone on it, I thin it's great there's hope) I love that it seems to get rid of "food noise" which is something I struggle with. a) I prefer to not be on a medications that I "don't need" (aka I'm not even pre diabetic, and 60 lbs overweight) b) I don't entirely trust the FDA approvals of the meds just because I prefer to take meds that have 15-20 years of longterm study behind it. My main issue in putting away calories is not only weekend splurges to Taco Bell, but almost every night I have an urge to binge. Through the day, it's not really ever an issue, but when I'm home from work or relaxing...I crave a lot of refined carbs or junk. I already drink coffee...I take fiber....but they don't seem to do it. I prefer to be meat free as well.
