Nespresso is lovely, what am I missing?!
I’m new to coffee in general, and recently bought a Nespresso Original machine after being recommended it by a friend of mine who is a coffee nerd stating that it’s a good starter machine. I have to say, I’ve really come to enjoy the Colombian coffee capsules I get from my local grocery store. So now I’m wondering, why do coffee nerds not rave about this? Why is this only a starter machine? Granted I don’t drink coffee at cafes, but this stuff is lovely, what am I missing? I’m also wondering why isn’t Nespresso more popular in the US? If you’re wondering how I make mine, I find the small espresso to be strong, so I use the large button. That with a few sweetener tablets and I’m in heaven. Not impressed with Nespresso
Let me preface this by saying I readily indulge in "bad coffee" occasionally, especially Timmy Ho's and Nescafe 3-in-1, and I actually enjoy those as a dirty treat now and again. That said, I'm lucky enough to drink high-end pour-overs at home on the regular, and that's where I feel the deep love for coffee: single-origin light roasts. There's a Nespresso disc machine at work, and holy smokes that stuff is not my jam at all. It all tastes vaguely synthetic, harsh, burnt, and very unpleasant to drink black. I also find it weird that there's a pretty broad selection of "flavours" and there is not much difference between any of them. Has anyone else tried this stuff? Officially done with Nespresso
I’ve had my Nespresso since November of ‘22 and thought it was the best invention ever. Far superior to Keurig. Until Saturday, when I went over to a friends and had an espresso she made for me. Freshly ground beans makes a world of difference and I didn’t appreciate that until now. Now when I drink my pods (trying to finish them off before my espresso machine comes in) they just taste so bitter afterwards. I’m curious to see if anyone else has had the same bitter aftertaste? submitted by /u/Pure_Marsupial_3889 to r/nespresso [link] [comments]

Guide to how I refill my Nespresso pods.
I asked here what brands of coffee you guys use to refill your virtuo pods- and got lots of questions on how I refill mine- so here is what I do! Step 1: grab your pod and cut around the foil lid. I like one of these little package openers with the razor blade. Step 2: dump the contents and give the pod a little rinse and dry. Step 3: grab your refill equipment. I have tried the reusable lids before but I like the foil stickers best. I use the Nessu brand on Amazon but really any refill kit will work so long as it comes with a pod holder, top part to seal it, brush, and foil lid sticker. You’ll also need a ground coffee of your choice. Cafe Bustelo has always been pretty foolproof for me. Because the Nespresso reads the little lines under the lid for information on how to brew, I’ve found that in general most of the flavored (like vanilla, hazelnut, etc) pods seem to have the right directions to make cafe bustelo come out pretty great. Step 4: Place the pod in the holder, fill, tamp down (lightly- you don’t want it super forced in there, but you want it even so you know there isn’t a big divot in the center) but leave a bit of space and don’t overfill. Use the brush to clean up any grounds. Step 5: grab one of your little foil stickers. Step 6: peel the backing off. Step 7: place it on the pod as centered as you can. (If it has a little tab, make sure the tab doesn’t overlap with the raised lip of the holder.) Step 8: grab the top part, put them together, and twist to seal the foil sticker to the pod. Step 9: remove the pod from the holder and press the foil seal under anywhere that it didn’t stick very well. Step 10: place in your machine, brew, and enjoy! Hope this helps someone (especially my fellow Americans trying to save a few bucks right now!) submitted by /u/MizGinger to r/nespresso [link] [comments]

Who else thinks Nespresso is getting to be too much money.
Their coffees have slowly become more expensive and it’s getting hard to justify spending 80-100 everytime I refill me coffee when I can just make a pot of fresh brew if i give myself that extra 4 mins in the morning at a cost of about .50 cents a pot. And I don’t really see any 3rd party companies making vertuo pods. Honestly I prefer a cup of fresh brew anyways. submitted by /u/Ajdelay13 to r/nespresso [link] [comments]

My friend's "artisan" coffee shop is just a £99 Nespresso machine (making £15k/month)
So my mate opened what was supposed to be a bakery about 8 months ago. Decent pastries, cakes and stuff, nothing special and just about breaking even. Then she pivoted hard into the "coffee shop" vibe and renamed it something pretentious with "& Co." at the end. She's charging £3.80 for a flat white and £4.20 for a cappuccino. Premium prices for the area. The coffee is made with a Nespresso Vertuo Pop she got for £99 from Argos and pods that cost about 38p each when bought in bulk. No barista skills needed, just stick in a pod and press a button. She's making £3+ profit per cup after the pod cost. The irony is she first saw this machine when she came to my house. I've had this machine for yonks and I know that if you stick with the safe options like Costa Rica, El Salvador, Colombia, Mexico and those kind of pods, you just can't go wrong and nobody gonna have a clue. There's a proper £2k+ commercial espresso machine in the corner, the kind you'd expect in a specialty coffee shop. Customers can barely see it unless they're really looking or go out of their way to look behind the counter. She bought it broken on purpose. Found it on Facebook Marketplace for dirt cheap and it's purely for aesthetics. It's never worked, it's literally just a prop. Behind that machine is the Nespresso machine doing all the actual work. From what she's told me she's selling 170+ cups a day on average. Rough maths says that's £500+ in daily coffee revenue alone (not counting pastries) which is approx ~£15k a month just from coffee. The customers seem to be raving about it on Google reviews. Part of me thinks this is genius cos she's created an environment people want to be in and they're happy to pay premium prices. She laughs it off saying "restaurants mark up wine 300%, nobody bats an eye". Is this just smart business? She's asking me to join her and double down. submitted by /u/Y0gl3ts to r/EntrepreneurRideAlong [link] [comments]

Confessions of an Ex-Nespresso Employee
As a Canadian Ex-Nespresso Employee I thought it might be fun to list some answers to questions I've been asked by customers over the years as well as things I thought was just interesting. Also if you have any other questions just leave them below and I'll answer them if I can. Just a heads up since most Nespresso operates very differently countries and even within the same country different managers can make a huge impact on how a boutique not everything I say might match up with where you're from. I'll start off with something light, as an ex-CS consistently I constantly get asked about the wait time in boutiques and trust me when I say we hate it as much as you do. We actually have more than enough staff to keep everything moving efficiently, but their wage to sales ratios works out a lot closer to their target of 7% if they sacrifice some of the sales by paying less people. Also I know that the person greeting in front of the store isn't always doing anything, but they do help a lot to support us as a team by controlling the flow inside the store and helping with various other tasks. Part of their job is also to filter out aggressive customers or at least take on the anger of customers waiting in line so they're not as angry when they finally get helped by someone on till. Going back to angry customers we do leave notes on your account if you act inappropriately towards workers in the store, and while it doesn't happen but if severe incidents occur we are able to completely blacklist you from Nespresso boutiques in general. We fully understand just how much of a pain it is to call the hotline, trust me we don't have insider access so whenever we need help we have to deal with them as well. Unfortunately they're not often on the same page as the people in boutiques. So every now and then they will tell you to do something in store that we physically can't do. They actually have more power than we do in boutiques and can make exceptions that we're not allowed to, and kind of forget about that sometimes. Something customers ask us about is if we're on commission, and at least for Canadian boutiques we're technically not. We do get quarterly bonuses but it's based on total store sales (which is never as high as the goal), new member acquisition nationwide (which we also never hit), a bit of it is also based on "mystery shoppers" that nespresso sends in to grade us on our customer service skills (so if you wonder why we always go through the full script this is why), the final part that we can actually control and the main part is the average dollar value of every single one of your transactions. As you can probably guess the reason our limited editions are limited editions is because FOMO is a great influencer and it's just more profitable to have them around part time. On that note the infinitely line of Christmas coffees from last year may or may not be launching again in January. Ending off with something I'm surprised that customers dont ask about more often but our limited edition Eperenza de Colombia is actually grown in collaboration with the FARC. Since the farmers we source to coffee beans grow them in FARC controlled regions they also have to grow coca for them to supply their drug trade or risk losing their farms. submitted by /u/Rude_Vacation_140 to r/nespresso [link] [comments]

Tips from an ex-employee
Hi everyone! Here are a few answers to the questions I got asked most as an employee, plus some other things you may find interesting: PLEASE descale your machine every few months even if the lights don’t come on (this will keep it healthy, but don’t descale too often) Always rinse your Aeroccino with water straight after use, otherwise the milk will dry permanently on the bottom and burn when you next use it If you have a subscription with Nespresso and changed your card, phone up customer services or your account will be blocked and you won’t be able to access your credit Only buy aluminum pods, for the sake of your machine (I’m not currently sure about the Nespresso compostable pods, but the plastic ones have broken many machines) If you want a Creatista machine, buy the Plus if you want value for money (Pro literally only has a second boiler and touch screen, Uno is just too basic for the price) If you’re buying a Vertuo machine, buy the Plus or the Vertuo (we called it the original Vertuo, but it’s basically the first of them to come out). These are the most reliable machines. I hated selling the Next. No, they are not phasing out the original capsules. Please seal your recycling bags. I’ve never met a Nespresso employee who remotely likes or would recommend Solelio (Edit: most customers buy this as they believe the intensity correlates with the amount of caffeine in a capsule) [EDIT] It’s been amazing speaking to you all and hearing all your questions!! If you want to ask anything, go ahead and I’ll try my best to help! Just for ref. I really do love Nespresso and even though I don’t work for them anymore, I have no hate for them or Nestle. I will not share any information about upcoming products as well as where I specifically worked to maintain anonymity, as I’ve served people on this thread irl submitted by /u/Disastrous_Group592 to r/nespresso [link] [comments]

Generally curious, why do baristas and the typical coffee “snob” hate Nespresso so much?
Nestle hate aside, I don’t see what’s wrong with the coffee itself. Nespresso taught me about tasting notes. I didn’t know coffee was more than just coffee until Nespresso came until my life. Pod coffee in general is convenient and imo tastes pretty good. Maybe it doesn’t make as good of an espresso shot but when paired with milk it tastes pretty nice and I can personally taste all the notes. So what’s the deal? EDIT: some amendments. I’m strictly talking another the Original Line, not Vertuo. I typically avoid Nespresso pods and I much prefer capsules that you get in the supermarket from distributors like Lavazza, L’or and local roasters like Campos. I don’t like black coffee so the “realness” of the espresso isn’t a factor for me. submitted by /u/TheMusicEvangelist to r/barista [link] [comments]
