Another vote for DD. They've really done the testing and math for barrel length and port size as two components to the formula. Have a MK 18 clone and a regular old 16" middy both with DD barrels. Not exactly the same but when I got my little para carry c6.45 lda extractor was broke and is why I got it dirt cheap. Wilson bulletproof extractor fixed me right up with very little tuning and it runs like a sewing machine now. And no more then they cost definitely worth changing it out either way.

Which sewing machine to choose?
I have zero experience with sewing but would definitely love to try. While scrolling through facebook, I saw a great deal where someone is selling these machinese for 12 dollars each. They all belonged to her grandma who owned a sewing shop but is retiring. I want to ask opinions on which ones are the best (or if I should buy any at all). These pictures are from the seller. Any advice is appreciated! submitted by /u/CloudWeaver039 to r/SewingForBeginners [link] [comments]

Looking for a sewing machine that will last forever
I sew everything at home - from delicate silk to thick denim and leather. My old machine is barely holding up, and I want something that will last for decades. Any advice on a true BIFL sewing machine? Seriously, you do not need a $2500 sewing machine. Or even a $1500 sewing machine. Like, for real.
A post in some millennial quilting group just made me shake my fist at the sky and roll my eyes all the way to the back of my head. Poster: I have $1500 to spend on a new sewing machine but all the dealers tell me the next step up from my current perfectly functioning sewing machine is $2500. Oh, and all I do is sew straight lines and I’d like a little extra throat space. Chorus of Commenters: get a stupid expensive juki! Now, for all the necessary disclaimers. I have no issue with people spending money on their hobbies. I have no issue with having the tools you want to make the things you want. But sometimes. Sometimes the level of conspicuous consumption in the sewing world, particularly in quilting, really grosses me out. I’ve been sewing most of my life, and started making quilts 25 years ago. But I was never part of the quilting cult that seems to be really focused on spending a lot of money on materials and machines and all the *stuff. I’ve just been quietly making quilts alone in my house, learning from thrift store and library books. And yes, I have a whole lot of fabric and multiple sewing machines and other sewing tools and supplies that I have gathered over a lifetime of sewing both as a hobby and for many years off and on professionally. But I want to shake them and be like, if you are just sewing straight lines, you do not need a f*cking $1500 sewing machine. You don’t even need a $500 machine to do that. Like lady, I’ve been sewing at a really high level and a high volume for something like 40 years and the fanciest and newest sewing machine I have is a 25 year old Bernina Activa 125. And it’s still my “new machine.” I think this all feels especially icky to me because I come from many generations of seamstresses and Appalachian quilters. While I know quilting was/is a thing everywhere, it feels a little more personal in some way that I can’t explain. The whole point of patchwork quilting was to avoid waste: to use and reuse every single tiny scrap because all bits of fabric were precious. And then to make something beautiful, functional, and life sustaining from trash is transcendent. My people have been making quilts (and everything else) on simple, workhorse sewing machines, and before that by hand, because that’s what they had. I don’t have any beefs with sewing quilts on machines or quilting by machine. But if all you are doing is sewing straight lines, and you don’t need an industrial machine, spending that kind of money on a sewing machine is just about straight up consumption and status. Which to me, is antithetical to the tradition and spirit of quilting and I am 100% judging you. Also, my side quest rant: I saw some quilting-related ad that was like, ohhh, isn’t it cool that you can make quilts from scraps? Yes, mother-f*ckers. That is exactly what people have been making quilts out of for the thousands of years that humans have been making quilts. It’s only in the last several decades that we’ve been like, let’s take a big piece of fabric, cut it into a bunch of little pieces of fabric, then sew them together into another big piece of fabric. And yes, I have done that plenty and I will do it again, but don’t act like it’s the norm. I’m just so sick of everything being turned into an opportunity (that is often presented as a command) for wasteful and mindless consumption. Thank you all for attending to this matter. submitted by /u/Excellent-Witness187 to r/BitchEatingCrafters [link] [comments]

What's the Best sewing machine for beginners right now? (Easy to use under $300)
https://preview.redd.it/mqvxea8jcqcg1.jpg?width=2000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c5eefbaed04306772c65484fc8f2fb4c91ecc146 Hey everyone, I posted this question 4 months ago and got some really helpful replies, so I figured it was time to come back and update this thread with everything I've learned since including from people who actually replied here and from testing a few machines myself. If you're new here: I was a complete beginner trying to find the best beginner sewing machine under $300 that could handle everyday clothes, repairs, and occasionally something thick like denim without breaking down every 20 minutes. EDIT: Here's what I found out: The two machines everyone mentions (and what nobody tells you about them) The Brother CS7000X and the Singer Heavy Duty come up in literally every thread. But here's the real difference nobody spells out clearly: Brother CS7000X is computerized, has 70 built-in stitches, an LCD display, and a wide quilting table. It's great if you want variety and don't plan to regularly sew through super thick stuff. Super beginner-friendly controls, and it's genuinely feature-rich for the price still under $300. Singer Heavy Duty has a motor that's about 60% stronger than a standard sewing machine. It'll punch through denim, multiple fabric layers, even vinyl. It's mechanical (no screens, no fuss), which some people actually prefer. Only 23 stitches though, so it's less versatile creatively. So the real question is: do you want creative flexibility, or raw power? For most beginners doing clothing and light repairs the Brother wins. If you're already thinking denim jackets and canvas bags go Singer. Quick breakdown of machines worth looking at under $300 in 2026: Brother GX37: This is probably the best budget pick if you're genuinely starting from zero. Super simple, jam-resistant bobbin, automatic threader. Around $60–80. Don't overthink it if budget is tight. Brother XM2701: Lightweight, easy to thread, great for learning. Handles basic clothing projects really well. The auto buttonholer is a nice touch. Good choice if you want something reliable without spending much. Singer Heavy Duty 4423: Already talked about this above. Go for this if you know you'll be working with thicker fabrics regularly. Not just "occasionally" regularly. Brother CS7000X: Feature-rich and still under $300. More stitches, a wider table, and it handles quilting decently. If you want to grow into your machine rather than outgrow it in 6 months, this is worth the extra spend. SINGER Quantum Stylist 9960: Honestly this is more of a "premium beginner" pick. 600 stitch options (yes, 600), extension table, automatic needle threader. It can feel overwhelming at first but if you're someone who learns fast and wants room to grow, it's a solid investment. What I'd actually buy if I started today: For someone who just wants to learn, fix clothes, and maybe make a few things Brother XM2701 or CS7000X, depending on your budget. Both are easy to set up, the learning curve is gentle, and they won't leave you frustrated in week one. If you're the type who already knows you'll be sewing denim or making bags get the Singer and don't look back. One thing almost no one talks about: Long-term durability. The Brother machines are great but they're not built like tanks. The Singer 4423's metal frame genuinely holds up better over years of regular use. If you're buying one machine and keeping it for 5+ years, factor that in. submitted by /u/wajid123_ to r/SewingForBeginners [link] [comments]

I was told to post this here. I wanted a fall quilt for my bed, so I bought an antique handcrank machine this summer and taught myself to sew. Should I buy this sewing machine?
Hello guys, really need some help here. I've been sewing for about 7 years but have never bought a machine before. This one keeps getting reccomended to me and I absolutely love how it looks, but the price is throwing me off. My mother's machine is about 2k and I love it, mine is about $500 and I hate it (It's a janome if anyone is wondering). So the extremely low price for a machine promising to be heavy duty is scaring me. Additionally, I have heard some people say Singer is no good, and I don't want invest in a junk machine even if it is really cheap. But I'm in love with the color, and I can feel that overriding my common sense. Is this machine worth it? Or does anyone have any higher quality suggestions in this beautiful pink? Sewing Machine Recommendations
Hi there! While this is not necessarily the right forum for this question, I couldn’t think of a more apt community to help me out! I am working on my PhD in soft robotics wherein I am making fabric actuators. They are complex in shape (see pic) and made of tpu coated nylon (riverseal 811). I use polyester thread and a thick needle but my current Singer Promise is STRUGGLING. I need help finding a sewing machine available in the uk for £200-600 (as available lab budget) that can both handle these complex and stiff shapes as well as be useful for some basic sewing (we make sleeves sometimes for the rehabilitation wearables we make). What are your recommendations? submitted by /u/OptimisticDoorstep to r/myog [link] [comments]

Touched a sewing machine for the first time two weeks ago. How did I do?
I remember watching the Mai Ardour graduation dress two years ago and had always wanted to make it, but I didn’t know how to sew. About two weeks ago, I pulled my grandma’s old Singer out from the garage and decided to teach myself. I practiced on some scraps to get the hang of the machine and then went to Hobby Lobby and bought fabric and bias tape for $11. This piece took me about 7-8 hours over two days. I am quite happy with how it turned out. I can’t wait to try more fabric types and colors. The only question I have is about the seams around my hips. They seem to be bunching up and creating bumps. Is it because I stretched the fabric while sewing or because I angled it incorrectly? I used zig zag stitches and cotton thread. submitted by /u/Rough_Shallot_5189 to r/sewing [link] [comments]
