Does a self‑cleaning litter box actually save time and smell?
My cat’s litter situation has been driving me nuts lately. Between work and errands I barely have time to scoop every day, and half the time I get home and the litter box already smells before I even walk in. I’ve tried different litters and liners, but it still feels like a chore I can’t catch up with. While browsing online I saw a smart self‑cleaning cat litter box from FinestItemsNook shop, which also has automatic UV sterilization. The idea of not having to scoop every day and cutting down on smell sounds amazing, but I’ve also tried smart pet gadgets before that ended up just collecting dust. For anyone who actually uses one of these at home: does it really make life easier? Is the smell noticeably better, and does the UV sterilization actually help with cleanliness? Or is it one of those gadgets that looks convenient but ends up being a pain to maintain? I’m thinking of upgrading, but I’d love to hear real experiences before deciding. submitted by /u/KhabibNurmagomedov_ to r/Catownerhacks [link] [comments]

Luma Litter Box
I had the Luma for about a week now. Im highly impressed by its cleaning capabilities and features that come with the Litter box. I upgraded from a ELS litter box which served me well for three years. Never hurt my cats or anything. The sensors on this Luma is HIGHLY sensitive. I walk by it during a cleaning cycle and it instantly stops. I have looked high and low for the safety concern videos and i have found none. I think ELS would of been worse for my cat than this high tech giant. I am deeply confused why im seeing so many Litter Robot fans, Stans, and bots commenting so much under these posts. They are not helping me understand why the Luma is extremely dangerous but making me suspicious of the competition that comes with the LR. If i have this litter box off of automatic clean it shouldn’t be a worry about my cat getting hurt. Idk i like the litter box and its serving me well so far. submitted by /u/Weird_Honeydew7542 to r/Petlibro [link] [comments]

Great litter box just not great for all cats
I have owned the LUMA litter box for just about three weeks and for it being their first automatic litter box I am impressed. I really do think it is a great litter box. No issues with safety, inaccurate sensor readings or inaccurate pet detection I would keep this litter box if it wasn’t for one issue that issue being it only works for 2/3 of my cats. Alice, my eldest Cat is a great example of what type of cat this litter box does not work for. She is what I call a low effort litter box user she is partially blind, and when using the litter box goes directly on the edge, she does not go further, then the very front of the box this litter box has been excellent for my two other cats who go fully into the box and squat to pee that being said, unfortunately I can’t have my cat peeing on the floor every day and at the moment they do not make anything to prevent this issue. I am sad to say I will be returning this product, but I think it has a lot of potential and would be a great Sherway for cats without litter box issues.. submitted by /u/kat000406 to r/Petlibro [link] [comments]

Why do architects forget that pets exist? Dealing with the "litter box in the laundry room" fail.
I’m currently mid-renovation on my guest bath/laundry combo and the layout is a nightmare. I have exactly 24 inches of clearance under the vanity, and I refuse to have a plastic eyesore sitting in the middle of the hallway. I’ve spent way too long looking for a litter box for small space integration that doesn't require me to saw a hole in my custom cabinetry. Most "furniture" options are made of cheap MDF that swells the second it gets damp. I’ve shifted my search toward finding a high-performance litter box for small space that actually has a vertical footprint instead of horizontal. It’s wild that we talk about smart fridges and hidden pantries but "where to put the cat" is always an afterthought in home design. Has anyone successfully built a dedicated nook for a modern unit, or am I better off just sacrificing the bottom of my linen closet? submitted by /u/8Nakul to r/HomeImprovement [link] [comments]

How to completely get rid of litter box smell!
As someone with three cats, my house always seemed to smell like a litter box no matter what I tried. I attempted different placements, added extra litter boxes, tested multiple litters, but nothing would work. I finally decided to try an automatic litter box, and honestly, it made a much bigger difference than I expected. The smell is noticeably better, and maintenance is way easier compared to daily scooping (sometimes twice a day). Now I mostly just empty the waste drawer. I’m using the PetSafe ScoopFree SmartSpin litter box, but this reviews quite a few other good options out there. If you want no more litter box smell, it might be worth considering! submitted by /u/ChadxSam to r/Catownerhacks [link] [comments]

What type of litter are you using for your Luma litter box?
I understand some people in this community are against the Luma, but please also understand we don't all feel that way and this post is just for litter advice. Before Luma, I have always had a ModKat litter XL box and used Pretty Litter. I LOVE both products, but I wanted to see if I could modernize my setup. One of my cats has a GI tract disease, so if I dont immediately scoop his stool it can make an entire level of the house smell pretty gross (yes I have air purifiers and yes he is seeing a GI specialist and on proper care meds). Anyway, I'd really like to find the best litter for this setup since Pretty Litter isn't compatible from what I read. Aside compatibility, I'd like to find something with minimal tracking above all else since the Luma has done a great job with smell and maintenance. I have a large mat but man litter gets everywhere. Are tofu and mixed litter good options here? Thanks all! update: bonus if the litter option has health tracking like pretty litter, but not required. submitted by /u/level30something to r/Petlibro [link] [comments]

Unpopular opinion: I like the Luma Smart Litter Box
So I’ve seen a lot of posts talking about Petlibro and how they’re not a reliable brand as far as their products not working properly. I just wanted to make this post in case anyone’s looking for an automatic litter box but is terrified of decapitation. First, I have the petlibro dockstream 2 and I love it, super easy to clean and I’ve never had an issue with it. I don’t have a feeder because I really don’t have a use for it, but my brother loves it and so does my boyfriend. Now I was looking at automatic litters for a while. My one issue is that I’ve never liked the idea of it being fully automatic cause obviously I don’t want to come home to find my child decapitated. Because of this, I was looking at options that let me turn off the self cleaning so that I can just go in and manually set it to clean and I can have peace of mind knowing my cat is no where near it when I set it to clean. So my issue with the LR5 (based on different posts I’ve seen) is that you can’t fully turn off the self-cleaning. Same with all LR models (again, from what I’ve read I believe it’s only for a certain period of time or something like that). Then I saw the Luma and saw that it actually recommends turning off the self clean for nursing/pregnant cats or kittens under 6 months/2.2 lbs. I decided to try it out after confirming that you can for sure turn off the self clean. Here’s my thoughts — It doesn’t smell. Before this, I used a stainless steel litter box and scooped daily into the litter genie because I’m extremely sensitive to smells. I’ve had the Luma for about a week and a half (I know, a little too early to tell), but I’ve had no problems with smell so far. I love the camera. It sends me an alert when my cat gets near me and another one when my cat leaves. It records the whole process so I can see if there’s something wrong. It detects up to 10 cats (I only have one so I couldn’t test this, but it does great recognizing my cat). It also detects waste and the weight of your kitten. That being said, I know the LR does these things, but definitely at a much higher cost. From what I can tell, it cleans pretty well. When I go to clean it, I take my cat out of the room so she doesn’t set off any sensors and press the clean button on the app and let it do its thing. I do this every night. The only issue I’ve had so far was that I’d set it to clean and it would stop saying it detected my cats weight even though there’s no cat in the room. Since then, I learned that it can’t be directly next to anything because it’ll set off the weight sensors which to me isn’t really a big deal. It’s extremely easy to remove the basin and clean it. You just select empty all in the app to drain all the litter into the drawer. The sides pop out and you just carry it out to clean it. submitted by /u/Itchy-Self-1588 to r/Petlibro [link] [comments]

Does a smart litter box that doesn't require a cloud service exist?
I'd cough up the dough for a Litter Robot 5, but spending $800 on a device I won't own sounds insane to me. Are there any alternatives that don't phone home? I'm starting to think I'll just buy a dumb litter robot, put it on a smart scale, and write my own simple algorithm to weigh the cat and waste to get most of the smart functionality. submitted by /u/joelk111 to r/homeassistant [link] [comments]

Goodbye to my Brother
Today my mother called me with the horrible news. While fighting against a severe kidney and liver disease, he passed away in our house. He powered through today just enough to come home and pass away peacefully, in silence. He was my brother. He was so smart, knowing how to open doors and drawers, asking for treats, and telling us to change his litter box. He was only five, this shouldn’t have happened to him. It all happened too fast. I remember the day my father finally let us keep him. He always snuck away from our neighbor and came to be with us. We always said, we didn’t choose him, he chose us, because he knew he’d live a great life with us. He didn’t deserve this. I feel so sorry that we let him down like this. We were already starting the treatment and yet… Goodbye my lovely brother. My Ödön. submitted by /u/XxKamillaxX to r/cats [link] [comments]

Well team the new Luna Smart Litter Box is here
(I know its Luma Smart Litter Box but I can't edit the title) Let’s find out together if it’s safe or not. I’m going to be running a suite of tests before letting my cats touch this thing. If you have any questions or tests you want ran let me know! Update 1: I'll try to keep this imgur album updated: https://imgur.com/a/CoUIhDw (updated) Video showing a cleaning cycle: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P-tRcwy7uG0 My first thoughts are that it seems fairly well made. It has three main sensors (Camera, Weight, Motion) which if I (or a cat) walks in front of it, inside of it or is spotted on the camera it stops cleaning. My current concern (and ill do more testing) is when I put a stuffed animal in between the inner ball and the outer shell (getting it stuck while cleaning) the cleaning cycle did stop, but it wasn't very interested in canceling the cleaning session as much as it just stopped and waited. I don't think the motor has a sensor in it to detect if something is stuck in it but more testing is needed. Final update: Sorry guys, I don't think this machine is safe enough to continue testing. I've asked for a refund. It just makes me too uncomfortable to have around my cats. submitted by /u/Automatic-Ocelot4606 to r/Petlibro [link] [comments]

How is Litter Robot vs PetLibro Luma smart litter box?
Just found out about this because I own their automatic feeder. But it looks like a worthy contender to challenge the king of litterboxes. The opening is bigger so the cats probably rub their bodies on the walls less. Considering this vs LR5 or LR4. Make your “dumb” litter box smart!
I had automated boxes in the past, but at the behest of my very picky cat, they had to be switched out for two concrete mixing tubs. But I really liked having my litter boxes connected to HA, so this is the new setup! Camera aimed at the boxes with motion detection. When the camera detects motion, home assistant uses Bluetooth trackers worn by the cats to identify which cat is in the room and therefore which cat is using the box. This information is logged into a calendar. Then, it adds 1 to a counter helper, which will notify me when box usage is above a certain number so I know to clean the box. 5 minutes after a cat has used the bathroom, the air purifier turns on for 30 minutes. The robot vacuum is sent as well during this time to pick up any stray litter particles (also the reason why the air purifier is on a little corner shelf). Switch by the door to the room. When I go to scoop the boxes, I push the switch which does a few things: turns on the air purifier so any dust I create while scooping doesn’t irritate me, pauses the motion detection so it doesn’t log me thinking I’m a cat using the box, and also pauses the robot vacuum if it’s running so it doesn’t get in my way while I’m scooping. When I leave the room, push the switch which will reenable motion detection and unpause the vacuum (if it was paused in the first part), and of course reset the counter helper to zero. I’m so happy with my setup finally!! Anything that I’m missing?! submitted by /u/Sonnet34 to r/homeassistant [link] [comments]

My cat randomly started peeing in the toilet?!
So last night my cat randomly started peeing in my toilet and has been doing it since. She still uses her litter box too though I’m very confused. Her pee is normal I’m pretty sure. My guess is that she has been seeing me do it and so she decided to try? She is very smart she even learned how to open my bathroom door lol. Is she okay though? What would you do if these two showed up on your doorstep? Can they be trained to use the litter box?
The lighter one showed up when she was about 9 months old. I promptly took her to the TNR clinic and got her spayed and vaccinated. She kept coming around, and I named her Loretta. I was planning on keeping her, but I was told she was nursing so I released her. I was hoping she’d bring me her kittens, but she never did. About 3 months later, she started bringing the dark one with her. I am assuming they are littermates. I named her Leona, and I also got her spayed and vaccinated. They survived the winter mostly outdoors. (I bought them a “house” and put it on the porch.) I finally got them to come inside for feedings, but they didn’t want to stay inside, even when it was freezing outside. I had two other senior cats in the house at that time, so I couldn’t give them free rein. Earlier this year, I had to put both of my senior cats down. I’m hoping these girls will come inside this winter. I just don’t know if they will use a litter box. When I got Leona spayed and kept her crated overnight, she slept in the litter box instead of peeing in it. Then when I finally released her, she peed on the rug. (She is not as smart as Loretta by a long shot.) For those of you who have taken in strays, how has litter box training gone down? They are not feral because they let me pet them and pick them up. They constantly talk to me and rub up on me. They are more and more comfortable coming inside. I’m just can’t relax yet because I’m afraid they will covertly pee inside. submitted by /u/LoLo-n-LeLe to r/CatDistributionSystem [link] [comments]

Does anyone have an automatic litter box and actually think it was worth it?
Literally just as the title says, I have been looking at different automated litter boxes some of them are really expensive but I don't want to spend the money if its not worth it. Looking at reviews the majority can be positive but a lot of the negatives are with products that seem like they have crappy quality control as sensors and such failing to start or failing shortly after receiving the box. I would not be replacing a regular box because I currently don't have experience with them to trust them that much. I have adhd and forget to clean the box sometimes it does get cleaned every week or every few days. Does anyone have any good experiences with any models? submitted by /u/colormek8 to r/CatAdvice [link] [comments]

When my wife gets a Wi-Fi enabled automatic litter box for the cats and leaves me unattended with it, bad things happen...
That's right. The cat box has been connected to our home automation system and has been dubbed the Critter Shitter... Now, whenever the cats use it, it will automatically cycle, and once the waste container fills up an email will be sent out with the subject line of "Shitter's full!" and the message "The Critter Shitter is full! Clean the poop box you heathen!" I have integrated it into SmartThings so that it can trigger lighting alerts, and I've added it to WebCoRE as well for automated Alexa voice notifications... Now she'll yell "The Shitter's full!" When a cat steps into it, it kicks off a timer in WebCoRE and then announces "Yay! Somebody pooped!" on several Echo units in the house. I set this up without my wife knowing, so it should be a funny surprise for her. I'm also tempted to set up SMS alerts so that every time it gets used between certain hours of the day she'll get a text... I know she'll kill me for it, but I'll go out laughing. Up next, connecting it to Twitter to tweet whenever the cats use it. Who knew that playing with poop could be so much fun?! Edit: This is the one we got. It is super-expensive, but will pay for itself in the first year with litter savings by reducing the active number of litter boxes we currently have. www.litter-robot.com submitted by /u/Synssins to r/homeautomation [link] [comments]
