AITAH for calling my girlfriend weird over her John F. Kennedy obsession?
I am not The OOP, OOP is u/Former_Ad8217 AITAH for calling my girlfriend weird over her John F. Kennedy obsession? Originally posted to r/AITAH Thanks to a longtime lurker for suggesting this BoRU TRIGGER WARNING: Controlling behavior, ableism, theft Original Post Feb 18, 2026 Throwaway account because my girlfriend surfs Reddit often. So my girlfriend, 19F, is a high-functioning autistic and tends to obsess over things more than the average person. Ever since I met her, she's always been a huge history buff and is now getting a bachelor's in American History and an associate's in Political Science. She is very politically driven and fixates a lot on political history. Ever since high school, she's had a deep fascination with the Kennedy family, but more specifically, John F. Kennedy and Bobby Kennedy. She can name their birthdays and death dates and times off the top of her head, she can name all of the children Bobby had, she knows every single executive order President Kennedy has made in his years in office. It's not just John and Bobby, but the rest of the Kenndy siblings as well. I was never judgy about it, but I've always thought it was a little strange. We recently moved in together, and I now realize how intense this obsession is. I knew she had some memorabilia, like old newspapers and campaign pins, but I had no idea that it was more extreme than that. She has posters, statues, books, article clippings, and an Ita Bag. Yeah, my girlfriend has a JFK Ita Bag. She also has almost every copy of George Magazine (JFK Jr.'s Magazine), she recently bought like $100 worth of Jack Schlossberg's campaign merch and will vote for him when mid-terms come around, she has Jackie's White House tour on VHS, the whole thing. She collects anything and everything Kennedy related, and will talk my ear off about them for hours. It started to become very off-putting for me, seeing her obsess over real people who are now dead. Last night, we were eating dinner when the topic of Carolyn Bessette came up. As she was talking about Carolyn's relationship with JFK Jr., I explained to her that she was really weird and it was strange that she just knew everything about these people. I said that it's okay to have special interests but it gets to a point. She didn't take it very well and left to go stay at her best friend's house for the night. I think she's overreacting, but I do feel a little bad, so am I the asshole? EDIT: My girlfriend has always had a past with severe bullying, especially on her interests. I've never poked fun at them, so she knows that my response was not bullying. RELEVANT COMMENTS larachaes i'm not the biggest history nerd but i think knowing that much about history and politics is fucking awesome and tells me that she's a smart person. i'm assuming she's not dry humping a body pillow of jfk every night, so i don't know what your issue is. you knew she liked these things before y'all got together and now you're complaining when it's in your face. yta absolutely OOP I knew but not the extent and based off how big she loves JFK she might as well own a body pillow. A lot of people like football, and yes sometimes people can take it to the extreme but I find that football is more reasonable than the Kennedys. ~ WarmFaithlessness162 Yes YTA. Just because you might not be into it doesn’t mean it’s weird, also as you mentioned she’s autistic spoiler alert it’s most likely her “special interest” which means yes she’s gonna talk about it repeatedly and be knowledgeable about the topic. Have you told her how you feel since it’s obviously such an issue to you? Or did you just run to Reddit to try to shame her for her interests just because they don’t align with yours? OOP I never thought it was an issue before so I never felt the need to talk to her about it. I came here because I just thought it was weird that she likes these things so much and I wanted to know if I was the only one who saw it that way Update Apr 8, 2026 (2 months later) So it's been a few months since I last posted. First off, yes I saw that everyone called me an asshole. I still think some of you were overreacting, but whatever. My girlfriend stayed at her friend’s place for three days. She barely responded to my texts except to say she needed space. When she finally came back, she didn’t yell or anything, which honestly made it more uncomfortable. She just sat me down and tried to explain, again, that her interest in history and specifically the Kennedys is something that brings her comfort and structure, especially because of her autism and past bullying. She said me calling her weird hit a nerve. I told her I understood, but I also said I still think the level she takes it to is excessive and borderline unhealthy. I thought I was being reasonable by not backing down completely. She told me that if I really thought it was that weird, then I probably had no idea how much of her collection I had actually been interacting with on a daily basis. I asked what that meant and she just kind of looked at me and said “you really don’t notice anything, do you?” Apparently, and I swear I am not making this up, a lot of the stuff in our apartment that I thought was just “normal decor” is actually Kennedy related. The framed black and white city photo in the hallway is from the day of JFK’s inauguration. The dishes we use are replicas from a White House set. The throw blanket on the couch has some kind of subtle pattern tied to Jackie Kennedy’s fashion line or something like that IDFK. Even the stupid coasters have little embossed dates on them that correspond to important moments like his assassination, JFK and Jackie's marriage, Bobby's assassination, and so on. I told her that kind of proves my point, that it’s too much if she’s literally building her entire environment around this family. She got really quiet again and said she didn’t think it was a problem because it makes her feel happy and safe. While she was out again the next day, I decided to help. I packed up a bunch of what I thought were the things like the its bag, some of the statues, and a stack of magazines, and I took them to a storage unit my cousin has. My thinking was that if it wasn’t constantly in her face, she might tone it down a bit and we could have a more normal living space. I didn’t tell her beforehand because I knew she would say no and she'd probably blow up in my face. She came home, immediately noticed things were missing, and completely lost it. I have never seen her like that. Not yelling, but like full shutdown panic. She started going through every room, opening drawers, checking closets, asking me where everything was. I told her I just moved some stuff out for now and she started crying and said I had no right. Her best friend showed up with her mom. Apparently my girlfriend had called them in a panic thinking someone had broken in and stolen her things. Her mom was furious at me and basically said I crossed a major boundary and that this wasn’t about clutter, it was about me trying to control something that is important to her. I tried to explain that I was just trying to make things healthier, but nobody was on my side. Her mom literally told me to give everything back immediately or they would come with her to get the rest of her stuff and she would be moving out. She is currently staying with her mom again. I had to go back to the storage unit and bring everything back, and she came by with her friend to collect not just the items I moved but also a bunch of her other stuff that I didn’t even touch. Before she left, she told me that what I did felt worse than the bullying she dealt with before, because at least those people weren’t pretending to care about her. I honestly think that is a huge exaggeration. I didn’t destroy anything, I didn’t throw anything away, I just relocated it temporarily. But now her entire family thinks I’m some controlling asshole and she is talking about not coming back at all. So yeah. That’s the update. I still feel like I had a point about the obsession being too much, but now I’m apparently the villain for trying to do something about it. So Reddit, am I still the asshole? Found behind spare pillows in closet
Found this in my closet behind spare pillows. The pillows have sat there, for what I assume, around two years. I am not tall enough to reach it to see if it’s wet. I just found it. If it dries(?) I’ll update. I should throw those pillows away, right? EDIT: Thank you so much for the awards! First time for me! I want to answer some commonly asked questions. The pillows did not have pillow cases on them. Yes, I do have a cat but she does not like pillows and refuses to lay on them. She also is a healthy cat and therefore not oily. She also has never sprayed before and I can’t image she would do it only there of all places. It is not lube… you weirdos. The wall is shared with another apartment unit. I do believe it to be oil transferring from the pillows. I posted an update in the comments but it got buried. I used a magic eraser and it seems to have lifted some of what I assume to be oil but I will really need to use elbow grease to get it off. There is an updated photo in that update post. I made a Family Sized Chuddle Dollops throw pillow for my brother and sister-in-law! When you sell through FBA packaging the product for safe delivery is all on you. Assume Amazon will provide zero additional protection (that is often just what they do provide), and may even throw it in a large box along with something heavy with zero fill (that is air pillows may be present, just not inflated) thus making that final trip for the item even more hazardous.

Chuddy Ds Throw Pillow
I made a Family Sized Chuddle Dollops throw pillow for my brother and sister-in-law! I put in a hidden zipper so that the pillow insert could be removed (and so they could open it because we're a family) and I put two needle felted dollops inside for fun. submitted by /u/Alone_Razzmatazz33 to r/DHMIS [link] [comments]

AIO Or should my boyfriend throw away his yellow pillow?
My boyfriend has had this pillow for 5 years and it's SOOOO YELLOW. Like neon yellow. The picture doesn't do it justice but omg. I think he should throw away his pillow bc he needs a new one but he says otherwise. I need yalls opinion. Should he throw away his yellow ass pillow? To clarify, I get a new pillow every two years and I've never had a pillow turn yellow. I also have (diagnosed) OCD so it seems kinda gross to me lol. submitted by /u/tripijaharda to r/AmIOverreacting [link] [comments]

AITA for replacing my friend’s throw pillow with a thrifted identical version?
So my (24F) friend “Wendy” (23F) just got a new apartment. She’s the first of our friend group to get an apartment, so everyone is really excited and Wendy wants it to be the main place we all go to hang out. Wendy threw a party this past Friday, just a small get together with our friend group and some of Wendy’s cousins. After a few hours, we were all pretty drunk, including me. I accidentally spilled my wine on one of her throw pillows. I tried to wash it out, but no luck. Of course, I offered to replace the pillow and Wendy sent me the link to where she bought it. It was SEVENTY DOLLARS for a tiny little carrot pillow. I told her I would definitely replace it, but I would probably have to wait for a few weeks for my next check because that eats into my gas money. She seemed a little pissy and I felt bad. Yesterday, my other friends wanted to go thrifting for their Halloween costumes. I already got mine, but wanted to tag along. I thought it was my lucky day because at one of the thrift stores was the exact pillow! Like the very same one with the tag from the store and everything. The thrift store was selling it for twelve dollars, so I got it because it was cheaper and now Wendy would be able to have her complete living room quicker than we thought. Fast forward a couple hours and we all go over to Wendy’s to show her the Halloween haul and I present her with the pillow. First she was happy, but then she was like “How are you gonna get to work?” I explained that I found it at a thrift store and she threw it at me and acted all grossed out. Now I’m confused because we all go thrifting all the time, including Wendy. But Wendy was like, “I don’t buy soft furnishings at the thrift store.” I offered to wash it and bring it back, but she said no and still demanded that I buy the one from the actual store. I said no, I would wash the thrifted pillow for her, but I’m not buying a pillow for seventy dollars. She said it was my fault for spilling wine in the first place and said I was “too clumsy to live.” Then I said for someone who wants to host parties, you’re being a big brat about a little spill. We left it at that, but I left a few minutes later because I could tell Wendy was really annoyed at me. Now the friend group is taking sides and one of my friend’s girlfriend told me that now there’s a group chat that doesn’t have me or Wendy in it called “The Pillow Crisis of 2024” where everyone is arguing who is in the right. I did wash the pillow and gave it to my friend to give it to Wendy, but apparently she refused to put it on her couch and it now resides in the floor pillow pile. So, AITA? (tl;dr: I spilled wine on my friend’s very expensive throw pillow. I replaced it with the identical pillow from the thrift store at a lower price. My friend wasn’t happy and demanded that I buy it from the actual store. I refused and insults were thrown back and forth. AITA?) Edit: If anyone is curious about the origins of the pillow: Carrot Pillow Edit 2: Some new info I learned from the group chat (that I’m still not a part of), Wendy took the tags off the thrifted pillow so there’s no returning it now. She has the turnip as well btw. submitted by /u/ThePillowCrisis to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

Good Throw Pillows
I am looking to replace all my throw pillows and get some coordinating ones for my sectional and side chair. I have purchased from Homegoods and Target in the past and been very disappointed in the quality. I’d love some suggestions on where I can get some good quality coordinating throw pillows. Open to getting the inserts and covers separately. Any suggestions on where to get some? submitted by /u/Jorissa to r/HomeDecorating [link] [comments]

Where to find great throw pillows?
I want to upgrade my throw pillows and having a hard time finding good ones. Where do you shop for high-quality throw pillows (US)? Here's what I'm hoping for - A pop of color, graphic patterns, something comfy to rest your head on while you read or watch a movie, but also that they're going to be durable & hold their shape. Here's my couch - it's midnight blue, and our living room has cool light gray walls. TIA! https://preview.redd.it/v2kmx1879cid1.png?width=842&format=png&auto=webp&s=d1935d76ad3ce963d0a00dd90cf19cbdfbd065d0 submitted by /u/MundaneHuckleberry58 to r/interiordecorating [link] [comments]

Don't laugh: good quality throw pillows?
Is there a source for good pillows for the sofa? Not a cheapo square foot brick but one that looks pretty good and can actually be comfortable in the event of a nap attack? We have a couple down filled ones from ikea that we bought a billion years ago but they don't look great. We're trying to bring the living room back to life. submitted by /u/LifeofSMILEY to r/BuyItForLife [link] [comments]

Can decorative throw pillows be machined washed??
So I have one asshole cat who decided to piss on my throw pillows I have on a cute bench next to a window. These pillows don't have any beads or jewels. Some are embroidered. All are discount Target purchases, so no love lost if they get destroyed by the washing machine. I really want to throw them in there and then machine dry them like crazy. Has anyone ever done this? What were the results? submitted by /u/greenqueenv to r/homemaking [link] [comments]

Fine, I’ll throw away all the pillows.
Format, on phone, all that good stuff. Setting: this happened about eight years ago when I worked for one of the biggest hotels in the U.S. I’m talking about 3200 rooms and that place is the size of a small city. My position was “supervisor of special operations” which means I was the guy they came to when they needed to, say, change 1000 bed frames for more modern ones, or change 5000 light bulbs for ones more energy efficient because we are going green, and stuff like that. Now, a hotel this big is divided into four buildings, each with their own managers, supervisors, housekeeping and the like, essentially it was run like four separate hotels. The problem was that each building’s managers had an exorbitant amount of power, and they ended up stepping on each other’s toes day in and day out. Because of my position I didn’t work directly for any of them but for the director of housekeeping, or DH(because what I did had mostly to do with rooms) so whenever one of them tried to get me to take special care of them and their buildings I could easily refuse but most of the time I did whatever they needed to get done if I had time and because they were mostly nice people and good managers. Enter douche canoe, or DC, DC was the worst manager I have ever encountered in my career, he would go into the check out rooms and steal tips from the housekeepers, take things left behind by guests instead of reporting them to lost and found, and talk to people like they owed him something, like his word was law. The story: One day we get a VIP guest, one of the owners of the company that owned the company that owned the hotel, so DH sends me to check the room he’s to check in to the next day, so I did, I checked all the furniture, bed frame, mattress, lamps, light bulbs, AC unit, everything I could think of and when I’m done I give the good to go. Fast forward a week, the day after VIP checked out, I get called into DH’s office and the conversation goes something like this: DH: so VIP had a complain about his room Me: did I miss something? DH: not really, it was housekeeping who did, he noticed that one of his pillows was stained (the pillows are in a protective cover inside a pillow case so he had to have taken it out of both to notice it was stained) and requested another one, which was also stained. Me: and you want me to do something about it DH: I want you to check all the pillows during renovations, and take all the stained ones out of the rooms and send them to laundry and then place them back in the rooms. Me: that’s gonna take a couple of days and some overtime but ok. The hotel was scheduled for renovations about three weeks from the date of the VIP pillow incident, where the hotel was supposed to shut down for two weeks and outside contractors would come in and do most of the work, during this time I was supposed to just stand by and help out the contractors with whatever they needed, but because of the pillow incident I now had something to do. So I had my instructions from DH and they date rolls by and me and my team get to work, about half way through the first building, I get a call on the radio from DC asking where I was (DH had had a family emergency and was out of town, leaving DC in charge of overseeing operations until he got back) I respond with my location and get back to work, about ten minutes later DC enters the room I’m currently working in and the conversation goes like this: DC: you are going to throw away all the stained pillows Me: now why would I do that when I have clear instructions from DH? DC: DH isn’t here and I’m telling you to throw away all the stained pillows. As soon as he finished the sentence he turned around and started walking away when I said “but”, and then he loses it and goes: YOU ARE NOTHING MORE THAN A GLORIFIED JANITOR, YOU WILL DO AS YOU’RE TOLD, THROW AWAY ALL THE STAINED PILLOWS AND LEAVE THE THINKING TO THE PEOPLE WITH COLLEGE DEGREES. To which I said nothing but “ok”. After he left I call my team on a different radio frequency and let them know the new plan, and get a lot of seriously? And what the fucks? So I tell them: that what the boss man wants and that’s exactly what the boss man will get. Anyways, we get back to work pulling stained pillows from rooms (remember, 3200 of them) So it takes us about three days, during this time we didn’t just dump the pillows as we went, we stashed them in a storage room by the dumpster (turns out most of the pillows were stained so we’re talking about 15000), so after we are done I emailed DC, and say: all the stained pillows have been pulled and are on stand by, again, should I just take them to laundry like DH originally told me to do, or should I proceed to dump them? To which he replied: yeah whatever just throw the away already like I told you to. So my team and I proceed to ask around the staff and gave a bunch of the away before filling four dumpsters with nothing but pillows. So days go by and I’m just helping out the contractors when I get an email from DC saying: why aren’t there pillows in the rooms yet? It was your responsibility. To which I replied: we don’t have enough pillows for all the rooms even with the stash (the stash was a storage room we kept full of new pillows, for whenever they broke, were bled on, or had too many people requesting extra pillows at the same time, but it was only like 500 give or take) we don’t even have enough for even one building. He replied: what do you mean we don’t have enough? How many pillows did you throw away? My response: you told me to throw away al the stained ones so I did, about 15000. To which he replied: 15000?!!!! How could you be such an imbecile? Now what are we supposed to do? We can’t delay the reopening. My response: I’m just I glorified janitor and can only follow orders, I’ll leave the thinking to the people with college degrees, He the proceeds to call DH on his personal phone (who was out of town attending his father’s funeral) and belittle me, say how incompetent I am and how I threw away all the pillows I was supposed to have washed and put back in the rooms, so I get a text from DH that just said: DC told me what you did, we’ll talk when I get back in two days. During those two days I compiled a folder with the email thread with the pillow conversation and since I don’t have access to the security mainframe, went to my buddy who is the security manager and checked the cameras and I found the footage of him telling me that I’m a glorified janitor and to leave the thinking to the college graduates (there are no cameras in the rooms but the hallway camera caught the audio). The two days went by and as soon as I came in the next morning and pick up my radio I get a call from DH to meet him in his office, so I head there with my folder and my footage in hand. When I walked in he was sitting in his desk, with DC standing next to him, and the conversation went like this: DH: take a seat. So I take a seat. DH: would you care to explain this situation you have put us in? ME: no problem. I pulled out my folder, opened it, put it on his desk and push it towards him. He spends a couple of minutes reading it (including the transcription from the security footage), and when I can tell he’s done reading I said: they wouldn’t let me take a copy of the security footage as per policy but you can talk to “insert security manager’s name here” and he can show it to you. He then looks at DC with raised eyebrows, looks back at me and says: would you excuse us for a moment? I just nod, get up and walk out. About 30 minutes later comes out DC with the biggest puppy who peed on the carpet and got hit with a rolled up news paper face I’ve ever seen, DH signals me to come in again and says: Mr. DC has decided to take some personal time indefinitely, carry on with your day. And that’s the story of how a manager tried to get me fired because of his stupidity and it didn’t work. TL;DR Asshole manager tries to get me fired because of something he told me to do, gets fired instead. submitted by /u/theflipcook to r/MaliciousCompliance [link] [comments]
